Invasion The Rim War: Revenge of the Empire | EotL Invasion of TAC-held Garn and Maldra IV | Chapter 3

New-Eot-L-Divider.png
In the wake of Emperor Velran Kilran’s fiery death over Mon Cala, the Empire of the Lost enters a critical flashpoint in its reign. While the rebellious Tingel Arm Coalition was defeated in its attempt at reclaiming Lothal, the battle exposed a number of festering weaknesses in the core of the Empire. Among the young Empire’s many issues, among its most dire are an anemic military-industrial complex, a rebellious population, and a young, untested Empress seated on the Throne.

Still, the Empire marches on.

Recognizing the threat that the Coalition represents to the health of the Imperial state, the Moff Council authorizes the launch of an offensive—the first to be waged against the insurgent state on the Empire’s borders. Targeting the Bryn'adûl-ravaged worlds of Maldra IV and Garn, the Imperial council hopes that the successful capture of these worlds will lay the foundations for deep strikes into Coalition space. In such an event, the Empire would be in a prime position to assault the Coalition’s capital of Hurikane, giving the opportunity to snuff out the rebellion at its heart.

However, as the Empire moves to seize the initiative, the Coalition seeks to answer for their defeat at Mon Cala and Lothal where they saw initial success but lost significant ground due to Imperial reinforcement.

Mysteriously silenced by the Bryn'adûl many years prior, Maldra IV has yet to fully recover from the geoengineered apocalypse inflicted upon it. Regardless, resettlement and restorative terraforming efforts spearheaded by a conglomerate of corporations and the Coalition government have reached their early stages. Amidst these efforts, the presence of the Nest has positioned the planet as a critical nexus of the Coalition military. It was this juncture (and others like it) that allowed the Coalition to strike Lothal and Mon Cala. Thus, the Empire seeks to capture the base in a surprise attack as the Coalition recovers from their failed offensive. Both states have the security of their borders at stake, as whoever holds the planet will be able to utilize the space it is in as a jump point for future incursions into enemy territory.

As the invasion of Maldra IV goes into action, the Garn system comes under Imperial assault as well. While Garn itself is little more than a barren world of diseased trees and desolate landscapes, it is surrounded by a dense asteroid field that holds the ancient Citadel of Rur. Once the headquarters of the Ordu Aspectu—a now-defunct Jedi sect known for their relentless pursuit of immortality—the space station-fortress now lies abandoned, though its powerful, esoteric secrets remain. For the Empire, Grandmaster Teckla Tane and Grand Inquisitor Aculia Voland have authorized a combined force of Crusaders, Inquisitors, and various elite units to seize the station and the priceless knowledge held within. All the while, the Coalition deploys the Aquilian Rangers and accompanying special forces to do the same, at the behest of a mysterious, wealthy benefactor.

Objective III: Citadel - Dueling

As both sides engage in hostilities across the local systems, the Citadel of Rur becomes a contested flashpoint in the unfolding conflict. Imperial strike teams tasked by Grandmaster Teckla Tane and Grand Inquisitor Aculia Voland move into the fortress in an effort to recover the station’s hidden lore on immortality and the Force. All the while, opposing Coalition units led by the Aquilan Rangers seek out the same secrets, not only to deny them to the Empire, but also to ensure the continued survival of one of Mon Cala’s last living hopes against perpetual Imperial domination. However, in breaking into the fortress, both sides have inadvertently awakened an ancient army of droid guardians that move to destroy both Imperial and Coalition intruders alike, their objective being to secure the seemingly venerable computer core that represents the key to the Citadel’s secrets. Deal with your enemies and these droids and secure victory for your side!

The mission was of paramount importance. A computer core locked deep inside the Citadel—guarded by an army of ancient battle droids—held the key to secrets both esoteric and untold. Such knowledge would be an incredible boon to the Empire, albeit in ways that were largely a mystery to Evelina. Unfortunately, said mystery was why the Butterfly felt her focus wavering, in spite of her best efforts to keep her attention honed in on the objective.

The Inquisitorius sought knowledge, but Evelina wanted revenge.

Revenge for the apocalypse inflicted upon Mon Cala. Revenge for Lothal’s collective betrayal. And finally, revenge for the merciless slaying of her father—the Emperor.

Such that it was, Evelina, a creation of one of the former Emperor’s many great works, considered the Emperor to be her father in spite of the fact that she had only met him after his passing. In that regard, the memory of his peaceful, yet lifeless features lying in eternal slumber within the transparisteel coffin came rushing back to the forefront of her thoughts. However, she did not have long to process the image before the dropship rocked with the force of a high-G maneuver, thus pulling her attention back into the moment. Out of instinct, Evelina checked over her weapons as the ship settled, the routine action serving to clear her head and concentrate her awareness.

All the while, those inside the passenger bay with her—a strike team of various elite Imperial units—remained the very picture of discipline and lethality. Evelina envied their focus, their willpower, and their composure. While she possessed many of the same traits as those with her (or else she would never have been selected for this mission), they seemed to embody the virtues of Imperial martial might in ways that went beyond a mere illusion.

In contrast, Evelina felt as if she were little more than a girl masquerading as an assassin.

Nevertheless, the Butterfly shook her head and clenched her jaw, her expression manifesting equal parts resolve and ruthlessness. After the dropship landed on the Citadel itself, Evelina stepped out after the others, her chakrams held at the ready. Plasma torches came to life then, cutting a way into the nearby airlock and allowing the elite combatants a way inside. From there, they proceeded into the station itself, the artificial gravity an indication that it was still active, even after almost a millennium of abandonment.

Then, not even a few moments later, came the droids.

Against the Empire's relentless assault, the Coalition holds its ground, outmatched but unbreakable. Every blow meant to shatter them only fuels their defiance, uniting worlds that refuse to bow down and be ruled by fear. In their shared struggle, they become a symbol of hope, revealing to the galaxy that true resilience lies in unity—and that even the mightiest empire can be brought to its knees by those it once oppressed.

As the ship hovered above the landing platform, the Citadel loomed, dark and menacing against the harsh landscape. Braze strapped on his gear, his actions focused. This wasn't just another mission for him—it was a chance to stop the Empire from repeating the horrors he'd already seen on Lothal. He'd watched them tear his home apart, oppressing friends and innocent lives, leaving scars that would never heal. Now, he was here to make sure no other world suffered the same fate.

As Braze stood by the open door of the ship, staring out at the dark, hulking Citadel, his mind churned with the weight of the mission ahead. He could feel it—the lives this would impact, the worlds left hanging in the balance. If they failed here, if the Empire managed to claim the Citadel's secrets, it wouldn't just be another victory or a jewel in their galactic crown—it would be the dawn of something far darker.

The Empire would have the power to make resistance futile. With knowledge this dangerous, they'd bring entire systems to their knees, just as they'd done to Lothal. Braze remembered the faces of his friends he had made there, the innocent lives lost, swallowed by an endless machine of control and violence. The memory tightened his jaw, reigniting a fierce resolve. If they failed here, the galaxy would face an age of darkness like never before—freedom would be smothered, hope lost, and the Force thrown off balance.

For Braze, this mission wasn't about winning the battle. It was about making sure that no one else had to watch their homes burn, or to feel that crushing helplessness again. The Empire could not be allowed to take this. Not here. Not ever.

Aether of the Iron Order Aether of the Iron Order observed the youth quietly, blue photoreceptors steady. "Look at you," Aether mused with a hint of pride. "Gone are the days of your wild entrance with no plan, hm?"

Braze gave a tense laugh, though there was a seriousness beneath it. "Oh, don't worry, Aether. The plan's still a little wild—it's just also a lot smarter now." He wasn't here to prove himself; he was here to protect, to stop the Empire from gaining the power that could make their grip on the galaxy unbreakable.

Aether reached out, adjusting Braze's gear in an almost fatherly gesture. "Smart wild, I like that. But remember, Braze: power alone won't guide you through those walls, nor will courage. But understanding? Now, that might just make you unstoppable."

Braze looked up, pausing mid-check, taking in Aether's words. He felt the weight of all he'd seen, all he hoped to prevent. He nodded, giving one final weak grin before he leapt from the ship calling to Jasper, "See you on the other side, old man."

As Braze disappeared into the Citadel's shadows, Aether turned to Jasper, his blue photoreceptors glowing with a quiet intensity.

"Trust what you've learned, and trust what you've taught him, Jasper," Aether said, his voice steady. "It's what will bring you both back alive."

He paused, then added, "And remember, courage doesn't mean never hesitating. It means moving forward, even when every instinct tells you to hold back. Stay together—you're stronger as one. Trust that Braze will find his path, and be ready to guide him when he needs it most."

Lothal had been a bust.

Jonyna couldn't help but feel a decade younger as they approached the fortress within the Reaper. Striking back at Imperial Inquisitors, fighting deep within enemy lines. If Giran or Zash had been here, they probably would've been in her ear about how dumb an idea this was. They'd be wrong now, but they couldn't have known that at the time.

None of them could've. None of them could've even comprehended the power that Jonyna would wield 900 years after their time. Shifting storms, slicing at sith lords, it was all way out of reach for her body less than a decade ago.

As the jedi master came down the ramp, she couldn't help but eye the stormtrooper helmet she had mounted on the wall of the ship's arsenal. It had been a long time since she had beheaded a stormtrooper.

Maybe it was time to do it again. Imperials wouldn't be swayed with kind words and diplomacy. No, they needed to be shown a display of power. That's all they respected. The ruby blade of the Cathar ignited, and the woman prepared for what came next.

Today, she was a rebel once more. Today, the Imperials weren't facing the Sentinel of Harmony.

They were facing the Tiger of the Rebellion.

"See you on the other side, old man."

"I know," Jasper nodded. "He'll do well out there. He always does."

Jasper had his own path to walk. He bid Aether farewell with a half-salute before venturing further into the depths of the Citadel. The path he walked was one of fate, not layed out on any map. He could feel it buring inside him ever since Mon Cala: Unfinished business. It was pulling him away from the battle, back to that Imperial he had bested and sent away from the destruction of Jotunheim. The Force had a strange way of working. Even as a Master Jasper found it a perplexing thing to understand at times.

But he was a Jedi. There would be no ignoring such a premonition. Jasper slipped his way through the corridors of the Citadel undisturbed, not by soldier or droid. It was as though the hand of the Force was guiding him safely to the destination at hand. Before long he was there, stood at the mouth of a large circular chamber.

"Right... don't take too long now..."

Jasper sat down, assuming a meditative position to focus his energy. He would need it for what lie ahead. That he was sure of.

Now he waited.

Amidst the emptiness of space, his mind wandered, reflecting on past battles and future plans, until he was eventually pulled back into the present moment. They were close. Taking a deep breath, he braced himself for the inevitable that awaited them at their destination.

Memories of Mon Cala felt fresh, as if they were only yesterday. But there was one figure who sparked a fire within him. It was not a flame of anger or rage, but rather a more primal desire to confront a rival, one that was formidable. He understood that to truly push beyond his own boundaries, he would need to engage with this opponent, for it was then he may also find the redemption he desperately sought.

The dropship that carried him was filled with different units, his own distinguished by the red hue of the Crusader armor. Upon their landing it wouldn’t take long for many of them to begin filtering through the airlocks and venture deeper into the citadel. For a time, he remained planted in his current position just outside

Surrendering to the Force's embrace, he allowed it to guide his senses. In that moment, it was as if fate itself called to him. All he could do was trust in his instincts. Among the flurry of movements, one presence stood out with profound calmness and clarity. There was no mistaking the Jedi. He finally proceeded to the station at last, certain his target would also sense his presence. His grip was tight on his lightsaber, his mind sharp and focused. He could almost envision the clash of their blades and the chaos that would follow.

A thrown chakram bisected a row of four assault droids in a vicious, scything arc, causing their mechanical forms to collapse unceremoniously to the floor as the weapon came flying back into Evelina’s grasp. By that point, the second chakram which she had thrown almost immediately after the first decapitated a pair of assault droids, the photoreceptors on their severed heads flickering in a surge of overloaded systems before going dark not long after the heads came to a rest on the ground.

All the while, the cadre of hulking Imperial Marines rushed forward, their thick duranium-plated armor turning aside most of the incoming blaster fire as they advanced. Still, a couple of the elite soldiers went down as their armors overheated and seared the flesh encased within. For her part, Evelina dove into cover as one of the Marines next to her went down. With the high volume of blaster fire coming her way, the Butterfly quickly realized that while a forward assault of this manner played well into the strengths of the Marines, it did not play into her own.

She needed to take her own approach.

“Captain, I’m breaking off to move ahead!” Evelina called out to the Marine officer. Since she stood outside his chain of command, the Butterfly knew that he was in no position to question her decision. He would simply have to readjust his mission parameters.

“Report back on comms if you can.” The officer grunted, before giving the Butterfly a curt nod. “We would appreciate any forewarning of the obstacles ahead,” he added.

Evelina nodded and faded into a shroud of invisibility before slipping through the ranks of the ongoing lightfight. Then, once she was past the droids, the assassin made her way deeper into the Citadel. She snuck past one marching formation of droids after another, before pressing towards the center of the fortress.

Minutes later, Evelina entered a large rectangular room lined with rows of ancient computer terminals that ran from one end of the space to another. Green-hued lights lit up a small number of the terminals, thus giving modest illumination to the otherwise dark area. Guided by the lights, The Butterfly walked forward, her gaze poring over each of the terminals as she passed them by. She selected a computer in the middle of the room, at which point she came to a stop, pulled her multi-slice tool from its place on her belt, and placed it inside the socket.

And after a few long, painful seconds, the assassin's tinted helmet visor lit up with reflected light as the computer came to life.

Silent as a shadow, an unusual throwing blade-style lightsaber whizzed past, embedding itself into the display screen with a sharp hiss. Two more blades followed in quick succession, striking the main console and power source of the computer, causing the room to flicker with sudden darkness.

A young Padawan stood at the front of the room, his posture casual and relaxed. He let out a low whistle, his jade-green eyes gleaming with interest as he took in the figure before him. "And here I thought I was small," he remarked, seemingly unfazed, his gaze tracing the shape of his would-be adversary.

"So, who—or what—are you supposed to be?"
he asked, spinning the first Nightshade around his index finger with effortless ease.He seemed to recall the blades effortlessly with a flicker of telekinesis. The other two weapons flew back into his grasp, where he caught them smoothly, as though it were second nature.

Evelina turned around as the strange lightsaber-kunai hybrid blades flew back into the grasp of the one who had thrown them, the computer terminal shooting out sparks in the process. Her helmet’s tinted visor betrayed nothing of her expression or her identity, concealing the knitting of her brows as she studied the one who had entered the room. The figure was only slightly taller than her, his features concealed by a mask and his form clad in black and navy blue armor. And yet, even with just those cues, Evelina’s gaze widened with recognition as her mind processed cues from his voice and his armor.

This was the Echani youth who she had encountered on Ossus.

And indeed, his mannerisms, from the easy, effortless spinning of his kunai around an index finger to the casual, cavalier tone of his voice further confirmed Evelina’s assessment. This was him. A boy brought to war, as was the traditional Jedi way.

Still, Evelina knew that she was technically younger than him, as she had been born from her vat as a young adult via accelerated maturation, thus never experiencing a childhood. In that regard, Evelina sensed that this was a honed warrior in spite of his apparent youth, who might very well have more experience than she did. The fact that he had gotten this deep into the Citadel on his own and managed to sneak into the computer room without her detecting his presence was a testament to that fact. And this time, neither of them were limited by superior figures, with the assassin being given explicit clearance to do whatever it took to secure the computer core for the Empire.

She imagined that the circumstances were much the same for the Echani youth.

Within the span of a split-second, Evelina raised her right arm and fired a single electrified net at the Echani’s chest and head from 16 meters away, with its power dialed in at the maximum lethal setting. At nearly the same time, the Butterfly exploded into motion, before throwing her body into a leaping somersault to get behind one of the nearby computer terminals!

The Azure Phoenix returned his weapons to a pouch on his side, which snapped shut securely. The electrified netting struck him solidly, crackling as the electricity dispersed across his form. However, he didn't falter; a few items on his person seemed to mitigate the shock quite effectively. He was grounded, with additional protections against such effects. Watching her move, he clicked his tongue lightly.

"Attacking people like that is so un-cute!" he called, tracking her movements. He raised a hand and casually swept it across the room, dislodging her cover and tossing it aside with ease, sweeping any remaining obstacles to the right with a flick of telekinesis. "Don't you know that's kinda rude?" Braze asked, igniting a small off-hand saber Sentry in his right hand and slipping his left hand into his pouch.

"When you meet someone for the first time, you're supposed to introduce yourself. It's called manners. And if you want to spar, you should bow to your opponent." He spoke with a relative ease that held a tone of confidence.

From the quick glimpse he caught, the girl looked small, maybe even younger than he was. No one had forced him to fight, but was the Empire really resorting to using child soldiers to do their dirty work? He hesitated; hurting a kid wasn't something he wanted to do. He thrived on the thrill of combat, but he also wanted to feel like he was fighting for a purpose. If he'd grown up among the Echani, he would already be a year into his military service by now.

He hadn't moved to attack just yet more so trying to draw her out from hiding to get a real good look at her. He didn't want to hurt her even if she wanted him dead.

Zonn stood in front of the Citadel of Rur, the attack was proceeding as planned small strike teams make surgical points into the citadel and gather valuable knowledge. Now that Zonn was considered a member of the Empire of the Lost there were still many who do not trust him. It was natural of course given his abrupt arrival and claim that he was the "close friend" of the fallen Emperor: Velran Kilran Velran Kilran . While Zonn had known the mad man he was no friend even though ambition and his..... idiosyncratic view of things is something to be admired.

Moffs like Teckla Tane Teckla Tane declared that Zonn be kept on a short leash. Zonn didn't blame her, he'll need to put himself into the Empire's good graces again. It shouldn't be too hard given that he did give them Aculia Voland Aculia Voland back. Kilran tried to purge the family in his grand takeover of the Lost but they survived, thanks to Zonn. Of course, such generosity will require...... plenty of favors. Zonn will have to wait until the right moment to cash in his chips. For now, he'll play the tune of the loyal soldier. It was not like he wasn't an obedient servant of the Empire for the past 3 decades of his life.

He came alone wanting to test his new powers, hopefully a Jedi can come to test his meddle.

Evelina’s cheeks flushed in an expression of surprise as the ancient computer terminal she had positioned herself behind went flying across the room before colliding against the far wall with a heavy slam. With every computer terminal that was destroyed, her chances of finding the fortress’ computer core would likely decrease. She realized then that the Echani was likely not after the core. His presence was simply an annoying disruption, compromising her mission and by extension, the Empire’s plans.

In order to resume with her efforts, all she needed to do was distract or stun him.

However, upon seeing the crackling electricity absorbed by her target’s armor, with no accompanying smoke, scorch marks, or any other signs of apparent damage, her nostrils flared with equal parts rage and contempt, a low, frustrated growl sounding out from her lips in the process. She immediately realized that her initial attack had been wholly ineffective, seemingly nullified by the advanced technology present inside the Echani’s armor.

That simply would not do.

As soon as she landed from her somersault, the assassin gave an enraged, savage cry and leveled one of her sonic chakrams towards the youth’s neck in a backhand toss delivered from 16 meters away, sending the circular weapon scything through the air at nigh-supersonic velocity as the blade flew roughly parallel to the ground. It was followed immediately by an energy chakram cast forth from her other hand in an overhand throw, with the blade being almost perpendicular to the ground as it flew towards the Echani’s abdomen with the same blistering speed.

In effect, the two chakrams were thrown in almost the same motion, leveled towards their target with ruthless intent. The first aimed to decapitate, while the second was intended to disembowel.

The assault at Maldra IV was supposed to provide some cover for the Crusader and Inquisition incursion into the Garn system and exploration of the Citadel of Rur. As the Grandmaster’s shuttle landed on the ancient station she instantly knew that was not the case. Whether it was intel or just coincidence the rebels were here. Recovering the computer core that could possibly hold the key to a semblance of immortality was not going to be easy in the first place. Now it was going to be doubly difficult.

The Ordu Aspectu had been extinct for a long time now. But the station that they held as a fortress during their existence was sure to have defenses that would be activated as the Imperials, and now rebels, tried to power up the station and find the Eternal Rur. There were other teams of Crusaders and more than likely Inquisitors as well. Teckla likely should have been at the helm of the mission. But she wanted to discover the computer core for herself. She ventured out on her own with only Sella Harand of the Procurement Division for scientific advice as well as two anonymous knights that she didn’t bother to ask their names. They would provide security for Sella. Teckla didn’t need anything further.

”Move on ahead,” Teckla stated to Sella and the knights. ”Try to find a place to extract a layout to this place. Then move to the computer core. Don’t get bogged down by fighting unless you have to. The enemy is here. But I’ll give you cover.”

The knights gave nods to the Grandmaster and ushered Sella along as ordered. Teckla turned her attention in a very different direction. She’d felt something nearby. A sense of excitement and anxiousness. Youthful, but with a hint of wisdom. It was strange since Teckla could sense it was not from one of her own. Determined, Teckla moved to investigate.

Feet moved quickly as her Force senses zeroed in on the presence. The rebel. A Jedi. The “Tiger of the Rebellion”. Teckla didn’t know that was what the individual had tabbed themselves, but she would appreciate it if she ever learned it. Closer and closer Teckla could sense the single being. That was a satisfying feeling. While Teckla had spent most of her life learning how to manipulate an entire battlefield as a general, she’d given as much training time as she could afford herself to single combat since her ascension to Grandmaster. It had taken a few lessons for her various teachers to accept that their aid was needed in this domain. But now Teckla was ready to put it to the test. And with this opponent she could tell even at this distance it would be just that.

Suddenly the hum of a lightsaber came to Teckla’s amplified hearing. The Grandmaster narrowed her focus and strode forward into the next room to find a tall Cathar with a long mane that Teckla judged to be a female. The catwoman wielded a red lightsaber and seemed ready for a fight. Teckla’s lightsaber was already in her right hand. With a quick flip of a switch the familiar snap-hiss of the activated blade echoed through the station. Teckla’s left hand instinctively pulled her blaster from her hip and raised it to point at the Cathar. Her lightsaber was held in a defensive guard across her body as she glared at the Cathar. ”You’re looking for a fight. I can sense it. Rest easy, you have found one.”

There was no mistaking the Jedi. He finally proceeded to the station at last, certain his target would also sense his presence. His grip was tight on his lightsaber, his mind sharp and focused. He could almost envision the clash of their blades and the chaos that would follow.

"There you are..."

Jasper could feel his presence strongly now, and there was a recognition between the two that they could sense the other. How had all of this occurred? He had fought countless Sith in his lifetime, beings that threatened the balance of entire star systems, yet nothing quite before had ever made him this excited. The ambition of Imperial burned brightly, brighter than any darkside entity.

Perhaps it was because ambition was distinctly human.

The Jedi Master drew his lightsaber from it's scabbard, running his hand along the familiar hilt.

"Chills..." he noted with a mutter. "What's gotten into you, Jasper..."

He hadn't been so thrilled for a fight since standing down Kybo Ren Kybo Ren on Teta. It seemed like a lifetime ago, back when he was a boy...

He was ready.

In her years since coming out of the ice, Jonyna had done her best to learn to act more...civilized. Gone were the snarky remarks, impulsive behavior, and rebellious attitude. She had been folded into the Order she so desperately craved as a child to be a part of, and despite certain spats, she tried her best to fit in. To discard her old habits, and be a proper jedi.

But today, seeing the sight of an imperial masquerading around with a lightsaber, blaster pointed at her in crimson red armor...

Old habits died hard.

”You’re looking for a fight. I can sense it. Rest easy, you have found one.”
"You know how to use that pistol, or are you just flaunting it around like every other moff I've impaled?" Jonyna shot back, taking the classic Form I stance. "I did my research before I came here. Teckla, right? That armor fits the bill. Calling yourself a grandmaster is a joke. A sad punchline to prop yourself up. Come fight a real master, and let's see how you fair, Imp."

She couldn't help it. So many times her mouth had gotten her in trouble for moments like this, but that Rebel spirit, that old cocky attitude shined through like a floodlight. Her saber spat flames as she held it, the crystal inside ready to do what it had done 900 years ago. But unlike back then, unlike all those years ago...

She was wiser now. Better trained. Spent the last 3 years with access to the best facilities and training the galaxy could buy. Trained under several masters that taught her something she never had back in her days of the Rebellion.

Patience.

The citadel was a maze. Not that Anthony would have it any other way. Ever since he went off to follow the former Sentinel of Harmony, Anthony had adopted a much more...rag-tag style of fighting. A hit and run style that kept him on his toes, but allowed him to keep going against overwhelming odds.

Today, it meant him keeping high above the battlefield, using only a tube of water to keep him skyborne. Diving down and striking at imperials with a surprise attack was what kept them at bay, and he did his best to keep at that. Stealth was the rebel's ally in this battle. Every so often, he'd silently throw his axe down and slash into the duraplast armor with a vengence, before recalling the weapon and slipping back into the mist.

It felt strange being so blasé about it. The former firefighter wasn't one to pick fights back in his days as part of the NJO, and certainly wasn't a Guardian type.

But today he was. Today he was fighting for the side of the Coalition.

Now he spotted someone. Someone wearing unique armor, walking towards his ambush spot.

Once more, he dipped his tube of water down, sliding down and striking from above. Lightsaber drew, he attempted to slice this new foe clean in half.

As he pressed onward, he felt everything swirling around him through the currents of air. Today it was nothing more than background noise–a distraction that barely registered in his mind. He didn’t feel the usual exhilaration from the violence brewing. Instead, a strong sense of detachment enveloped his being. His focus remained sharp, progressing further into the citadel, and passing through a room where the computer core was located.

Amidst the conflict, he felt no desire to join just yet; the thought of igniting his weapon seemed unnecessary. While the others fought for their own agendas, his selfish mission only drew him closer to his target with each step.

Another series of twists and turns, and he found himself within close proximity of the one he had been searching for. He was far from striking distance. Even so, the Crusader felt no urge to attack, or even disturb the tranquility of the Jedi. His grip on the lightsaber hilt relaxed a bit. Drenn gracefully lowered himself into a kneeling position, his free hand moving to press several buttons on his crimson helmet, which unsealed it with a hiss. Gently, he removed it and placed it by his side. Though the headgear offered some advantages, he had never been fond of wearing it.

Finally, he could breathe freely. Everything else taking place in the citadel faded away.

"I can’t help but believe that fate has brought us together once more,” he said calmly, a soft smile forming at the corner of his lips. "It's a harsh reality, no? To contemplate that in another life, we may have even been allies. Yet in this one, here we are now, our ideologies placing us on opposite sides.”

A flicker of doubt entered his conscience, a whisper that there was still another path to redemption besides this. But he quickly crushed it. Each breath inhaled grounded him further, trying to ignore the dark clouds gathering in his mind. ”I am Drenn Calegemerr," he continued, his voice steady. "I offer you my name as a sign of respect" His head tilted, attempting to lock gazes with the Jedi. "And what name do you carry?”

Teckla could feel the smirk from her opponent as the Cathar questioned her ability with a pistol. Being called Moff stung just a little. That was not who Teckla was any longer. Not who she wanted to be. She knew there would be politics in her role still, but she now stood for more than the will of the Emperor or Empress. She stood for total and complete order in the galaxy. Without a focused thought Teckla pulled the trigger of her blaster five times in rapid succession. First aimed at the head of her opponent, the second her left knee, third right shoulder, right knee and finally left shoulder. If the Cathar Jedi was a range target they all would have hit dead center on the targeted part of the body. But Teckla had no disillusion that any of the five would strike true. Either with a dodge or quick movements of the flaming blade, the bolts would not find their targets. But her opponent would know that Teckla was quite capable with the weapon.

”Most of my life cannot be discovered through common research. No records exist of my training that was done in the shadows,” Teckla announced with a smirk of her own. ”However if you had done your research you would have known better than to question my prowess with a blaster. What your research likely wouldn’t reveal is that this joke of a Grandmaster is also quite good with a blade as well. Though mine doesn’t have all the flames and stuff it will cut just as deep.” There was a power in Teckla’s voice. She doubted it would have the desired effect on a Jedi Master, but the effort was minimal and worth the attempt to shake the Cathar’s confidence.

”I study enough to know names as well, Jonyna Si, Sentinel of Harmony, member of the Jedi Council. I won’t pretend that my information tells me your competence with the Force or the blade.” Teckla chuckled at the boast of being a real master. Jedi weren’t supposed to be so brash. Especially not Masters. But the taunt seemed to fit her feline opponent.

”It is not very often in a meeting of Masters that the Jedi is the braggadocious taunting one, while the opponent manages in calm steadiness,” Teckla responded with a smirk. ”I have trained in the shadows. I have knowledge of the Darkside. But that is not all that the Quasesitorum stands for. Like the Sith we treat the Force as a tool to help with the lift. Unlike the Sith we don’t thrive in chaos and reach for power. We seek strength through order. You Master Si will indeed see this strength and steadiness. Not from a mere Imp, but from a true Master of the Force and a bringer of Order to the Galaxy.”

The beginning Shii-Cho defensive stance didn’t fool Teckla into thinking this would be a basic fight in a single elementary form that she was quite certain they had both mastered. Jonyna was too brash to fall into a single form and Shii-Cho was certainly not her favored one. So the feel out would begin with Teckla assuming the single-handed low guard beginning stance of Form II. A new form for her, one she would need to switch from at some point in the battle. But the Jedi couldn’t know that. And so the games began. ”So are you going to back up your statements with action? Or are we going to spend some time circling and exchanging verbal jabs?” Teckla’s main goal was to give Sella time to find the treasure at the center of the mission. If they talked for hours and Teckla left with the computer core that would be quite alright.

Braze was finely attuned to reading body language, recognizing how small motions hinted at imminent actions. His reactions stemmed more from habit and muscle memory than deliberate thought. His gauntlet shield activated instinctively, deflecting the first chakram; the impact blasted against the wall, shaking the entire building as chunks of the structure fell.

In an instant, his saber hand intercepted another chakram, which spun violently in his grip. With a quick flick of his wrist, he hurled it back. The counterattack was seamless, both actions happening almost simultaneously. He didn't quite know what he was dealing with, but their incredible speed challenged even his quick reflexes—though he matched it well enough to respond. The returning chakram carved through a nearby wall with a thunderous boom, leaving a clean cut-out in its wake.

"Woah, hey now—that's dangerous!" Braze scolded, grinning. But he wasn't staying on the defensive; extending his hand, he focused, attempting to wrap her in the Force and lift her off the ground.
