The Salvager and the Senate

Republic Space. Not her favourite of locations, owing to the trigger happy Jedi she had met in her journeys, but there were worse out there. A few nice junkyards too, I should have a roam and see what I can find while I'm here. Of course, she had to be wary these days. After all, she had a little one to watch out for too. I wonder how Thyros is doing... I'm sure Screw is keeping him company.

Back to the matter at hand, Kyra had requested a meeting with @[member='Jack Sparrow'] of the Trade Commission, as well as @[member='Persephone Callas'] with the Senate. In truth she hoped that the plans she brought with her and the opportunities it would bring to both parties might whet their appetite and allow the commission for her to form the hyperspace route through Republic territory.

Of course this was just the preliminary steps, and she would have a lot of work remaining even if they did approve of it. And besides, there are other powers in this Galaxy I will need to arrange a meeting with. Many of which would be far less welcoming and accommodating than the Republic. And then, of course, came the exploration and surveying... It was a good job Kyra enjoyed space travel. Even where danger was concerned.

Vaudin Miir

Planetary President of Iktotch
[member="Kyra Sol"]

The meeting room like all meeting rooms tended to be before the meeting began, quiet. Vaudin sat in his chair watching a holofilm on his datapad and pretended to be reading a report. His light grey eyes, flicked from the images to the chrono and back as he sat waiting. If this moved fat enough he could make it to the starport in time to get off world and take a much needed break from the bureaucratic processes of the republic and just enjoy his old freighter again. His ship had sat unused for so long now that he was having withdrawals from being away from her. Whatever he was here for it would hopefully not be to exciting, but one never knew did they.

Yusan watched from the center pod as people arrived, his eyes running over pod by pod, his hands resting on his leg as he sat there and studied faces of note like [member="Vaudin Miir"], [member="Jack Sparrow"], [member="Persephone Callas"]. There was also [member="Jack Harkness"] that sat beside him but it was unlikely he would speak today, so if he did Yusan would certainly be surprised. His eyes though fell on the star of today's meeting, one [member="Kyra Sol"], whom Yusan leaned forward on the console in front of him to get a better look at.

He wore his normal dark robes and cloak, both of which more accustom to what a Jedi would wear, but the hood remained down and his face in clear sight as the burn marks that remained after the treatment moved over his face. Similarly his hand, a black and grey machine that he had had replaced after losing it as payment for his crimes, came to his chin as he replaced his hands with his elbows on the console.

The little lady coughed from the guest pod and stared up at the masses of faces: representatives from each planet within the Republic watched her, some with shrewd gazes, others a little softer. But none of them had seen her before, or knew of her, so the distrust could be expected she supposed. I'm not even, technically, a Republic Citizen anymore. No, she had lost that right when she was sold to the Crew.

"Senators of the Republic, Chancellor" she inclined her head towards the central booth. "I come to you today as a C.E.O of Rahvin Industries with a proposition and a request, and ask that you listen and reflect upon the possibilities it could bring before making a sudden decision on what I bring to the table."

Reaching into her pocket she brought out the only item she had been permitted to enter the Senate with - a holo-projector. Modified, to enlarge the image as one would expect a star map to be shown as, the palm sized instrument sat within her hand. "This image will be nothing new to you, it is one you will have seen for your whole lives - admittedly with a few changes over the years." With a press of a button the Senate lit up with a ghostly blue hue, while a map of the Galaxy projected itself for all to see.

She allowed them to adjust for a moment, before continuing. "This is your section of the Galaxy," as she said that an enlarged holo of Republic Space appeared to replace the Galaxy. "I am here to request your permission to prospect a new Hyperspace lane, part of which would run through Republic territory... Here to be exact." She changed the image again, focusing in on the Tion Cluster and the worlds off towards the Tingel Arm.

If they declined then she would find a way around the Republic... Although with the business she already conducted within Felucia it would be silly of her to pass up this opportunity.

Neither the beginning or end point of this lane was within Republic Territory, however she knew better than to take on a project of this size, with so much danger involved, without the permission of those it indirectly effected. She let it hang; she could give them positives and incentives, and of course she still had to propose trade with the Faction at large, but for now they had to think on it themselves. She was not here to force hands, merely to broaden horizons.

[This is the proposed hyperspace route, although you can only ICly see the parts which travel through Republic Space]

Yusan's eyes scanned over that and his hand came to his own datapad, taking it out and opening up a secondary map for reference of the area. There was on thing that he noted though, the Mara Corridor. Now it was true her proposed route would bring more trade, from where though worried him too, why was she just showing them the area at which it would go through the Republic, that cant be the whole thing and he had traveled the stars enough to know that.

He would see what others say first though, his eyes still wondering where the end and starts of this route would be as he moved around his own personal map. It was mostly because of curiosity that he did this, curiosity into what it is that people would ask and how quick to accept this his other senators and politicians would find themselves agreeing it should be made and those agreeing it shouldn't.

Vulps

CEO of Verres Trading
Zarro sat patiently in his chair as he listened to [member="Kyra Sol"] speak. As the head of inter-species relations, he found that he had little need to be here. Still, it was good to stay active. Of course there was also the fact that he was a merchant. As an Amaran trader, he was well familiar with the current trade routes and how economics worked. Though his title may not suggest it, he was a good person to have in this meeting. "And what exactly do you intend to trade with this route? Or do you have other plans for it?" Unlike Yusann, Zarro was less concerned with the where, and more so with the what.

Ducha Persephone Callas, Senator of Hapes and head of the Judiciary Committe sat quietly upon her seat as cool aquamarine eyes befell the young woman making her proposal through Republic space. A new hyperlane would certainly bring fortune and trade along with it.. But what else?

Her fellow senators began with their own questions. Hers would soon follow once the first are answered. The more important questions.

Like where this hyperlane would start and end.

Popo

I'm Sexy and I Know It
The large and armored form of the Junior Senator from Nar Shaddaa spoke up then.

"Where exactly is this route to begin and end? Also, am I correct in assuming we will be regulating the section of the route through Republic space?" Popo asked politely.

His armor bore no weapons, as per Senate regulations, but he was allowed his armor. Without it, he would be completely immobile as he'd more or less outgrown self propelled mobility. The season for dieting was nigh.

[member="Kyra Sol"]

Kyra smiled to the questions. Good. She had expected as much, and was glad she got to explain it further.

"The route will be used for trade, you are correct, and also a liaison between three main areas of Rahvin Industries' trade sectors: Teth, Felucia and Bastion." The planets which were not tied in with the Republic were neutral - they would pose no issue to the Faction at large. She clicked and the image zoomed out some : she hadn't been trying to deceive them, merely focus on the more important aspect first.

"Trade wise, it will be civilian products. Rahvin Industries creates luxury vessels aimed at your every day individuals. We also have work-place droids for professions such as mining."

Turning her sights across to the Hutt her lip twitched slightly: he was an individual she needed to speak with, on Kära's request. "We are able to police the routes with our own services where required. Outside of the influence of Galactic Powers we will be doing so either way - we can also ensure that your border on the route itself remains protected to ensure that anyone using the hyperspace lane will not pose any issues to the Republic at large. Such measures are being created as we speak, and will be in place from day one should permission to go ahead be granted."

Rahvin Industries was a business, a neutral one at that. It did not intend to play favourites, nor to cause harm to anyone within the Galaxy. It simply wished to bring opportunities to civilians and Factions alike.

Vaudin took out a pair of reading glasses and put them on as he looked at the provided map.

"This points directly at Mandalorian space." Vaudin said looking up at the woman, "what plans do you have to prevent hostile interruptions in your trade?"

[member="Vaudin Miir"]

"I have likewise opened negotiations with the Mandalorian Clans, in a similar fashion to this, in order to detail the Hyperspace route. As mentioned, we will police any area of the route outside of governed space, ensuring that trade and travel routes are not targeted. This will only go ahead with the permission of those it effects, Senator, else-wise a new route will be drawn up. Although that would be quite bothersome, I'm sure. This is for the benefit of all who might use it, and to the detriment of none, I assure you."

Vaudin Miir

[member="Kyra Sol"]

"I'm sure the republic will help police our part of the potential lane." Vaudin said pitting down his data pad, "New trade route, civilian company of good report with nuetral standing. I can't see anything against it. I say lets see what Ms. Sol can do."

Yusan smiled as others had asked his questions for him, he did take the time to move in and out of the proposed lane's new route and thought for a long moment before speaking up to add his voice to the conversation. "This would not compete with the already established and popular hyperlane titled the Mara Corridor in a negative fashion i hope, that would interfere with some trade from there as well and i do hope that it would not throw into chaos the trade that came down that route as well as your own?" It was a minor and possibly insignificant concern, but some trade routes did hurt others over time and Yusan was curious as to if this woman had considered that possibility.

She crossed her arms slowly, looking across to Yusan. This was more like it, a question with more bite to it. "Negative, it will not. If anything this and future plans for Hyperlane Development will only enhance the existing lanes. Trade will not be interrupted, more to the point it will be bolstered along the route itself. This lane itself meets other routes at a direct counter angle, meaning that others will not lose traffic."

Popo

"I like the plan, Ms. Sol," the Hutt stated politely. "However, my concern is of potential use of this route as an invasion path. I understand you will regulate the lane, but I doubt you could stand against a full invasion fleet. Also, there is the question of cost. What will this route cost us?"

With that, Popo sat back and waited for an answer. His thoughts turned to how close the route was to the Wheel and whether he should look into a spinning class. Wait. Scratch that. You needed legs for that. Jogging, perhaps... Never mind

[member="Kyra Sol"]

[member="Popo"]

"The same could be questioned of any trade or hyperspace route, Senator" she remarked aloud, "However this is neither the intention nor part of the terms which would come from having the lane itself. You are correct that as a company we do not have the resources to stand against an invasion force, yet we would do all within our power to limit such chances. This is not created with malicious intent, and those who would benefit from its usage, namely yourselves and your neighbours, will be held to the same expectations as one another. I do not view this as being any more of a problem for you on the invasion front than the likes of the Mara Corridor or the Parlemian Trade Route, both of which cross various Galactic Power's borders."

Next came his other question, one of prices. "It will not cost the Republic anything to have this constructed - it is necessary for the furtherance of Rahvin Industries, and as such we would not ask you to fund it in any way. We merely come here asking your permission to build it through Republic Space. On top of this, we also seek to improve trade between Rahvin Industries and the Republic. At present Felucia and its sector is the only area of Republic Space we trade within: we ask to bolster this, as would naturally occur given the addition of a trade route, should you approve of the Hyperspace Lane." They may have been a business, but they were not lacking in funds... Nor common sense. This lane would bring them profit unlike any they'd had before, it wasn't an opportunity to be messed up or missed, for any party involved.

Popo

I'm Sexy and I Know It
"I do not doubt you would take any and all precautions to prevent such a situation," Popo said in a measured tone with an understanding nod. "However, I think that for the peace of mind for the Republic's citizens, provisions should be made for the Republic to aid in guarding the entry and exit points on the borders of Republic space. I'm sure my fellow Senators would agree."

With that, Popo gestured to the assembly around them.

"As for price, perhaps I was unclear for which I apologize," the Hutt continued politely and calmly. "What I meant was, I assume you would charge a toll of sorts for this lane you wish to construct. What will we expect to see in costs to use this lane?"

[member="Kyra Sol"] [member="Yusan Fenn"] [member="Vaudin Miir"]

"You would be more than welcome to police your own borders alongside or without our own forces, Senator. I would have no control over such if you desired it." She was not here to butt in where Republic matters were concerned, after all. "And forgive me for misinterpreting your question. However the answer still equates to nothing. There would be no practical way to toll the lane, for one, and besides - with the profits made through the lane itself, and the access it would bring, we see no need to place a price on its usage. If you sought to do so within Republic Space then that is your call, Senator. But I have no control over the planets within the proposed lane." The idea of charging seemed ludicrous to her.

"So, aside from the profits you would gain from the construction of this Hyperlanes, what exactly is it you want out of this undertaking?" The Shell Hutt asked curiously.

He owned his own company and knew that a project such as this would undoubtedly make a name for the company that completed it, but perhaps there was more to it than that. In short, Popo wanted to know precisely what [member="Kyra Sol"] wanted out of this venture and just how the project would benefit the Republic as a whole. Profit was nice and would gain that sector of space a big boon in revenue, but how else, he wondered.

[member="Popo"]

"As I have said previously, this would provide a direct and easily accessible route between three major areas of Rahvin Industries' company as a whole. It would simply benefit myself and the company to be able to make the hyperspace journey between Teth and Bastion without having to wayline and go off at a tangent. In short, it would provide a short cut of sorts. It is simply an added bonus that trade would be increased for all parties involved alongside this." She shrugged, it was the humble truth of the matter. She was no politician, she had no need to lie. She was simply upholding her end of the bargain where Rahvin Industries was concerned. Kyra hadn't even wanted the company, after all.
