The Shadow (Kian Karr)

If he had expectations of his padawans, Anoki didn't plan in being first to let him down. Actually, she promised herself that she would strive to become the best Padawan he has. She didn't exactly have a path choosen or her future but she liked to think she developed as she went. Anoki thought it was pretty boring knowing what your going to do, that allows no adventure. He like to think her choices would create her future.

Anoki felt, we'll more like heard the rock land in front of her. It wasn't that big of a rock but Anoki had an idea. Using her left hand to hold the small rock she used her dominant right hand to pick up the bigger rock with some difficulty. She attempted to move the rock over to the smaller one but dropped it and it landed on the floor with a THUD!. "Oops." a thought came to her, she could still use her original plan in a smaller level. Anoki moved the small rock over to the big rock. Using her right hand she took the big roc and overestimate it inches off the ground. Anoki used her left hand to hold the small rock so it was nearly touching the big rock but hand an inch or two of space. She slowly put her hands one ontop of the other so the force was stronger. She was so focused on holding the rocks up she just noted his question. She was about to answer when the rocks began to fall. Quickly Anoki used seep rate hands for each rock, keeping her mind on the force AND the question.

"Emotion, yet Peace. The Jedi of Old believed that emotions were bad because you could act rashly in some situations." Like me sometimes.. Anoki thought before mentally frowning. "Such as if you had a brother that was killed you would want to kill the person responsible then and there rather than come up with a strategy as to not charge into a potential group of Sith Masters and be defeated. I believe this passage states that Jedi can have emotions but also be at peace with themselves and their problems.

Kian nodded his head and smiled beneath his mask as he watched Anoki struggle with the two rocks. She was focusing to much on her hands and lifting the rock with the force through them, when in truth she could lift the rocks with her hands resting on her lap.

"Try to focus less on the necessity of your hands." Kian instructed. "While you would use them to lift physically, they are not necessary with the force. Picture both rocks floating into the air, grab them in the grip of the force and lift them." Kian said, trying to help and demonstrated by concentrating on two larger rocks and floating them over and setting them down without moving his hands from his lap.

"Emotion, yet peace is the first line of the older Jedi Code." Kian nodded along, glad that his student knew this. "There is no emotion, there is peace is the first line of the more modern version of the code and the one typically taught to the Jedi here, though the original is still valid." Kian said and considered her interpretation of the code.

"That is correct. Emotions can cloud our judgments and stop us from seeing a situation clearly." Kian said shrugging. "But it is foolish to think someone can exist without feeling emotions.....we are biological creatures and as such have emotions....there is no avoiding that."

"But, we can control whether or not we act on those emotions." Kian said pointing out a finger to emphasize the point. "Jedi should also shy away from emotions such as anger or revenge, such as would be involved in targeting a Sith who killed a relative.....for these emotions lead one down a dark, dark path."

"There is no ignorance, there is knowledge is the second line of the Jedi Code....how do you interpret it?"

Anoki hadn't realized she was using her hands to lift the rocks. Oh. She looked at the rocks and imagined them floating in the air as if an invisible hand was holding them in the air. Slowly Anoki moved her hands down into her lap, all the while staring at the rocks. It was only when she looked down at her hands that she realized she could still sense the rocks with the force holding them. Which meant she didn't need to concentrate on them she just had to know they were there with the force. She soon realized it was easier to hold the rocks without looking at them, atleast for her.

About the interpretation, Anoki went with the Older version because if she was wrong abou which one to use she still got to show off her knowledge of studying. But hearing him talk about his interpwrtation made her see in a different view. She thought about Her interpwrtation of the second code. "I think that it could be interpreted that, no Jedi should be without knowledge. Obviously they aren't going to tell all their information to anyone that ask. But they trust them."

Sorry about the long wait.

Kian was pleased to see that Anoki was doing a better job at moving the rocks so he brought a few more rocks over to have Anoki train with. This was skill training that was truly meant to test both her patience and her ability to calm her mind.

"You are correct, Jedi should be knowledgeable and make their decisions based on knowledge and not a lack there of." Kian said nodding. "Many terrible decisions have been made based on ignorance. Whole species have been brought to the brink of eradication based on the ignorant assumption they were non-sentient." Kian said, giving this as an example.

"When a Jedi is tasked with doing something, they are expected to know as much as possible and to be very wary of acting on ignorance."

"What is the next line of the Jedi Code?"

As Kian brought the rocks over Anoki focused on the biggest ones first. She found herself dropping different rocks. Soon she thought she was going to give up but she focused in what Kian was saying and she found herself keeping control of the force. She listened to her own breathing, steady and calm and she found herself holding all the rocks up. She also found that she could multi-task with holding the rocks and listening and talking to Kian.

"There is No Passion, There is Serenity. Similar to what Master Kian just said, this points out that we can not let our emotion run wild, we must keep them in check and under control. Being at peace with ourselves." Though that is absurd because we are sentient. We have to have emotions, else we will break. Become a part of the Sith. Though she kept the last part to herself.

"Controlling ones emotions and being at peace are two separate things." Kian said smiling, not bringing anymore rocks over this time, preferring to allow Anoki to focus on what she was doing with those that were there.

"We are biological organisms and therefore will always feel emotions.....but we can, through training, learn to accept our emotions and work toward a resolution of a situation without their interference." Kian said raising a hand to emphasize the point

"Peace comes when you allow for your emotions, but don't act on them. I have been a Jedi many years now, but I still feel anger, joy, fear....but when I feel them I don't allow them to dictate how I behave."

"When faced with a situation a Jedi must do what is right but not always what feels right." Kian said emphasizing it. "Sometimes the what feels right will be to run away....to hide....but a Jedi is sworn to defend the weak and protect the innocent. This means you will sometimes need to face down that fear and stand strong."

"Those who act with passion....who allow their emotions to fuel their use of the force tread a dangerous path that leads to their fall."

"There is no chaos, there is harmony is the next line." Kian said, "How do you interpret it?"
[member="Anoki Sihin"]

Oh. Anoki now knew the difference between the two, she never knew before. Accept our emotions, this is something that Anoki needs. She's always had a hatred for her father. She knows it is the past and that he has moved on but Anoki hasn't. As for what Kian said next, Anoki had too many questions. "Master, What about a Jedi gut feeling. Should they not listen to their gut?"

A dangerous path.. the path that leads to the Sith. A chill ran up Anokis spine, The Sith. Anoki has always wanted to join the Shadows for the sole purpose of protecting the good from the Evil. Aka. The Sith. "I find this the simplest code to interpret. There should not be confusion everyone should come to an agreement on matters. This part if the code I feel not only applies to the Jedi but most all people."

[member="Kian Karr"]

I have to say it.....

If there is no Chaos then is the site just a dream? AN ILLUSION!?

Kian nodded his head as he listened to his apprentice talk. It would certainly make things easier if there was universal agreement but he knew better then to think that would ever happen.

"You will find, as you perform your duties as a Jedi, that universal agreement on matters that even seem clear cut, will be a difficult thing to find." Kian said chuckling. "Even matters that seem to you to only be able to be interpreted one way will often be viewed very differently by another's perspective."

"Through training and the force, you will be able to see what is the best path to choose. There will be chaos around you....for example on a battlefield...but through your training and reliance on the light side of the force you will find that you can see clearly amidst the chaos....that you can remain calm while all around you is hectic." Kian said.

"There is no death, there is the force, is the final line of the Jedi Code." Kian said, reflecting back on it as he spoke it out loud. It was a very important part of the code, especially to a Jedi such as Kian who had spent a great deal of time upon the battlefield.

"How do you interpret it?"

[member="Anoki Sihin"]

Anoki sat and listened to her master speak. The rocks all but forgotten, as if a distant memory. If there was one thing Anoki was sure that everyone evil or otherwise, knew, it would be that there is never going to be universal agreement. Everyone has their own oppinions and beliefs, wether it is what is good or evil. Even in when talking about different species the beliefs could hugely vary. She felt this was one important line because it was something a jedi had to keep in mind everytime they come in contact with anyone.

Maybe that's what drives me to know everything I can. Anoki reasoned, she knew herself all to well. She was young but she had spent years of her life looking into herself and understanding her fears in weaknesses. Also her strengths, one thing she knew for sure was that her greatest strength was her ability to analyze things. One part of this was herself, she knew herself better than anyone should know themselves. She held onto something, but not even she knew what it was. She knows though that she has to see things for others views, and not her own because conflicts would never be settled that way.

As for the last line, it was the one that stumbled her the most. "Master, I'm not exactly sure about the last line. The logical thing I would say would be, all things are made of what we call the force. Even 'dead' things, so that means nothing is truly ever dead. But something tells me your not looking for that answer. Atleast not put that way. The next thing I would say is, We Jedi are here to protect those who cannot protect themselves. This, of which means we make many enimies along the way. Death is always a threat to us, wether we are fighting or not so we must learn to accept that it happens. We can fear it but we can't, because even after we die, the Force still flows through our beings. She finished that and surprised herself with what she said. She still doesn't know half of what she said but said what felt natural.

"Very good." Kian said nodding to his student's words. It was true that Jedi faced death more than many in the galaxy. They were guardians of peace and justice and as such often were on the frontline of battlefields or facing off, alone, against dire threats.

"The final portion of the code can tie into many things." Kian said. "For one, it ties into the importance of controlling our emotions. The duties of a Jedi often take us into battle....we often must face down death."

"No living thing relishes the thought of their own death. We must be able to face situations that are dangerous without allowing our fear to freeze us."

"Additionally, death comes to all beings." Kian said shrugging apologetically. It was a lesson he learned well over the years. "As Jedi, we must come to accept that death is inevitable. This allows us to see more clearly by placing our fear of death aside and allows us to become one with the force when it happens."

Kian rose up to his feet and indicated that Anoki should join him. It was time to test her further in her abilities. Kian led the girl toward a small clearing in the woods that was set up as obstacle course. There were ledges to jump too, moving obstacles that required speed, posts for teaching balance, and various other obstacles set up.

"I'd like you to progress through the obstacle course. There is a bell to ring at the top." Kian said indicating a platform at the top. It was only accessible through going through the course in its entirety. "Ring that bell." Kian said smiling beneath the mask.

Anoki nodded, she'd never been on the battle field but could just imagine what it was like. Though she had no doubt she would know intierly what it was like until she experienced. Which one could hope she never would at the age of 8 but things happen..

Noticing her Masters beckoning Anoki gently set the rocks down before joining him in the clearing . The obstacle course didn't look menacing now, but she was sure it would be as soon as she got on it. Though she knew that she had to follow what she had just learned. Keep calm, forget that you are doing the course and just talk to yourself. Let youself realize but not know. Anoki walked to the begining of the course and looked at her objective. She knew there was little chance she would make it over in one try but as long as she tried her best she wouldn't be dissapointed, and doubted Kian would either.

The first obstacle was a spinning log she was to run over. She took one step and almost fell but regained her balance and ran across. The next was 4 horizontal beams ranging from long to short she was to move across with only her hands. Anoki was far from fit but given her light weight she was able to manage. Then 7 beams she had to manage to jump on and keep her balance, as they looked to be 1 foot in length. The thing was they kept getting farther apart with each jump. When Yukii got to the 6th jump she got on the beam but jumped to early and nearley fell down but she ended up grabbing the 7th post and pulling herself up. There was one more obstacle until the end, the pole jumps. One had to jump from a tampoline onto a metal bar and by pulling the bar from it's spot, pushing it up and placing it in the next slot above them they had to make it to the top. Anoki jumped from the trampoline but didn't get a good enough jump and fell down. She looked at Kian as if to say, 'Continue?' Though she already knew the answer.

Sorry for the shortness of the obstacle course but if anything just tell her to redo it and tell her that when she does there is another part to the course.

Kian watched as his student progressed through the obstacle course. She progressed well, catching her a number of times as she stumbled throughout the course. It was important that she learn to fall and dust herself off. It was a lesson that all Jedi had to learn. They needed to be able to plan for success and experience failure. Kian had failed a great many times in his duties as a Jedi.....but each time he'd pulled himself up and gotten back to work.

"Of course." Kian said when Anoki had finally fallen and asked if she should continue. "Your going to fall more times than not in the beginning of your training." Kian said shrugging. "But our duty is to get up, dust ourselves off, and get back too it."

"Feel the force flowing through you as you proceed." Kian said walking along the perimeter of the obstacle course so he could watch her progress. "The force can augment your speed, your strength, and your physical abilities." Kian said, repeating words that had been spoken to him when he was a young Kel Dor learning the ins and outs of the force.

"You are small right now, but the force can help you overcome some of that disadvantage.....consider Jedi Master Yoda, he was small and yet was one of the greatest Jedi of all time."

OOC
Don't worry about it! I like to leave it to the student to decide what obstacles are there :)
