So, this is the point where we decide on the story finally. I have a basic framework, but since others will be mainly running the PVE event, let’s take ideas and suggestions now.
The Plan of the Contingency
The overall plan is deceptively simple – poke all the big players in the galaxy and show them an extremely dangerous threat.
Why? Do they want everyone to attack them?
Yes!
By fighting everyone they are stirring up the anthill, and leading them all to a single place; the Contingency homeworld.
Why?
Well as we know the star the ringworld surrounds is a gateway, but it’s currently locked tight. Attempt to break the ringworld and the contained star will go nova and destroy everything near it, but also break the rift. That is why it’s not been done before. The ring is a trap, it is the lock but also the thing keeping the rift alive.
There is something that will open it though; the mass infusion of souls and life essence will power a device which will open the rift properly. That is why they need all these tens of thousands of soldiers, crew and especially those lovely Force users to come to one place. Of course, many will die in combat, but when the device goes off…it will be like Ruusan. A weapon which strips the lifeforce of everyone in the system except silicon creatures (like Shards) and diverts that into their weapon.
That done, the galaxy’s fleets, soldiers and leaders will be all wiped out and the real incursion can begin.
The Plan For The Event
The above story is a good way of explaining the OOC truth that we need to get all the pieces onto the board in one place. Here are some specific plans.
Fleeting
The Contingency needs to hold the massive Coalition fleet in place long enough for the ritual to be completed. It’s also vital that the fleet does not get the opportunity to attack and break the ring as that will undo the plan.
The Contingency fleet, commanded by me, will be aggressively advancing. Points are won determined by the metres destroyed. The players will also be able to gain points by moving off the opposite map edge, but doing so will mean those ships cannot return.
The player fleets will enter from the far edge. I will be splitting fleets between a rough ‘dark (FO, TSE etc) and ‘Light (SJO, GA etc). There is nothing stopping the players attack each other, but the common enemy and the fact that NPCs are easier to kill might well prevent that!
Grounding
A rectangular map, longer than it is wide. The objectives are two-fold. The first will be to break through and exit the map. The other will be to destroy several objectives on the map. These will be shielded to prevent artillery wiping them out instantly. Rather vehicles and infantry will be needed to get close and destroy them.
These power generators will allow access to the central core.
PVP
One group of invaders will be aiming for this section which contains the data libraries. It is here that any PCs which have turned will fight each the other writers whilst other PCs can duel.
There will be some occasional GM style messages, but nothing overt.
PVE
The biggest of the threads, and probably split into two to begin with, ending up with a unification for a final battle.
One group will be the ‘dark’ party. They will be heading to disable the shield generators and containment field.
The ‘light’ party will be seeking to find and disable the superweapon.
The two groups finally will approach Onyx and the final battle with the remaining Shards. The climax being the need for an epic battle, with all the deaths in the battle starting to open the rift a little. The light characters will be wanting to destroy the weapon and the menace, but there might be some evil characters prepared to try and take control of the weapon and use it in a more directed manner.
Madness and evil will start to flow out. Feel free to play with that.
However we slice it, it will be a monumental undertaking. Also, as you notice the descriptions they’re happening at the same time…but also in order. IE, the grounding requires the fleeting to have been successful to get there, but for OOC reasons it’s all playing out at once.
These are all rough concepts. Further discussion and fleshing out is required, especially for PVE.
