Well, there are a few places you can join and that will allow you to help the Republic while staying out of the Jedi. Such as:

Coruscant Security Force
Wildcards 71st Infantry Division (although I think is defunct)

And we have the Havoc Squad which is not a faction but alligned with the Republic. Most of the Military dealings are under: http://starwarsrp.net/forum/698-the-galactic-republic-military/

So I guess I'll start there... I am not sure if that answers your questions, if not just let me know to see how I can help

Well I'm a little ways in the unkown region but I'm sure we can establish a trade route or something of the like to indicate that Solovarna, the home world, is within Republic influence.
