Public The Tunnels Of Orax

Dantum Kryszar Dantum Kryszar

As Glar regained consciousness, he slowly became aware that Dantum had woken him up with a stim-pad. Once Glar had more or less regained his senses, Dantum suggested that they leave the tunnels. Glar agreed with this, and followed Dantum towards the exit. All of a sudden, an individual in a mask and a black cloak pointed a heavy machine gun at them, and demanded that Glar drop the pyramid. The masked individual also told them that they would not be leaving alive, but it only seemed to be addressing Dantum when it said that.

Meanwhile, unknown to Glar or the masked individual, the crystalline creature was recovering, and preparing to attack them. As Glar dropped the pyramid, the creature stood up to its full height and roared. This startled the masked individual into firing its gun at the creature. The slug rounds from the individual’s gun were just as useless against the creature’s armor as blasters had been, and as they ricocheted off the creature and the walls of the chamber, everyone found themselves in what had essentially become a death trap.

Glar made a mad dash for the exit during the chaos, and once he was fairly certain that he was out of the danger zone, he assessed his injuries. He had managed to escape the chamber with only a grazed shoulder and two slug rounds lodged into his leg. Unfortunately, he had not managed to grab the pyramid, and he had no idea whether or not Dantum had survived what had just happened. The most pressing matter at the moment was to get the slug rounds out of his leg before it became infected. It seemed tapping into the force would be necessary again. He put his hand over the wounds, closed his eyes, and concentrated. He felt a wince of pain, but what mattered was that the slug rounds were out of his leg.

Glar heard the sound of something approaching him from the general direction of the the chamber. Whatever it was, it was moving very quickly. There was another distinctive sound, but Glar could not quite tell what it was.

As the masked gunman threatened Dan, the crystalline, centipede-like beast had recovered. It reared up on its hind legs and roared. The gunman, apparently nervous, fired a round straight into the creature's rock-solid armor. This did nothing but provoke the thing more. And to make matters worse, the gunman's ammunition consisted of slugs, not lasers. Consequently, once he or she fired, the slugs began to bounce all over the room and ricochet off of the walls, the creature, and the floor. Luckily, no one had been hit yet.

Glar seemed eager to keep it that way as he hurried out of the perilous chamber. Dan, quickly realizing this as the wisest action attempted to follow. He was almost at the exit when a hand grabbed his cape.

"You're not going anywhere."

It was the mysterious gunman. Dan wondered why whoever it was hadn't attempted to escape as well. The slugs would kill or gravely injure on impact. The bounty hunter got his answer when two slugs hit the gunman in the back, doing no damage. He or she must have some serious armor under that cloak.

"Let go, or you're going to get us killed." Dan tried to sort this out peacefully. His sniper would do nothing against that armor if slugs couldn't.

"I don't think so. You saved that Pyke's life, so if he's honorable at all, he'll come back for you. Then I can get the item."

Dan decided that now was the time to escape. Any longer, and he could get hit with a slug. He chopped at the gunman's forearm, forcing whoever it was to release his cape. He twisted away and made for the exit, only to get clocked in the visor with a powerful blow. He whirled around and kicked, activating his magnetic boots as he did so. The boot on his kicking leg latched on to the metallic armor, causing the gunman to smash into the wall when Dan brought his leg around. After making contact with the wall, the gunman activated a wrist flamethrower, nearly scorching Dan, who just managed to deactivate the magnet and slip away.

The gunman was quick, though. He pinned the bounty hunter against the wall and kneed him in the stomach. Dan couldn't take much more of this. The gunman was stronger and faster, and apparently had tricked-out Mandalorian vambraces and tough armor. Luckily, he had a plan. Dan pointed as best as he could with his pinned arm and yelled.

"Move, now! That thing's going to eat us!"

The gunman turned his head around to look for a second, which was a fatal mistake. Dan headbutted the opposition's chest, and as the gunman fell back, followed up with a quick one-two punch to the shoulder. The gunman went after his quarry once more, but this time his path was blocked by the creature. It had deemed the mysterious mercenary the biggest threat, and therefore the life-form to be exterminated first. It lunged at the gunman, who dodged to the left and fired at a small, unguarded sliver of the thing's stomach, which was the best he could get at that angle. It looked like Dan's two enemies were engaged at the moment. He took this chance to run.

Head down low, stooping over to avoid the slugs, the bounty hunter began to rush out of the chamber when he saw the pyramid on the ground. Glar must have dropped it. Good thing the gunman hadn't seen it, or whoever it was would have simply killed Dan, taken the item, and left. Well, the bounty hunter wouldn't be leaving without this. He picked it up, feeling a slight vibration, like a humming, in his palm. Dan felt a temptation to use it, but quickly dismissed it. He wouldn't know what to do with this anyway. He started running again, and exited the chamber. He saw Glar leaning against the tunnel wall, awaiting the outcome of the chaos.

"Let's leave while we can. The gunman isn't indisposed, and the creature is madder than ever. Which way is out?"

The person Glar had heard running towards him had turned out to be Dantum, who promptly asked which way was the way out.
“One left turn, a right turn, and two more left turns.” Glar responded. He also asked a question. “Did you happen to grab the pyramid by any chance?”

Dan was anxious to leave, and once Glar gave him the directions, he realized how much farther down the tunnels must go if they were only this far in. But even though he was anxious, he, like Glar, had only one thing on his mind: the pyramid.

"Did you happen to grab the pyramid by any chance?"

"I did, in fact." replied Dan. "Here you are."

He handed over the strange artifact. The sensation to use the power, and the humming, which had begun to resonate inside of him, ended abruptly as the pyramid switched hands. The thing was odd in a way, but from what Dan had seen, it held great power. Large red lightning bolts are not something to be trifled with. Now that the pyramid was safe, they could leave the caves behind, as well as the gunman and the crystalline beast, who were evidently still fighting back in the chamber. Dan noticed that Glar was rather gingerly putting pressure on one of his legs- the Pyke appeared to be injured, probably by a slug. There wasn't much blood, though, or even a visible wound. His companion was seeming more and more like a Force-user.

"You need me to support you?"

“Thank you, Dantum.” Glar said politely with a hint of excitement in his voice as he took the pyramid from Dantum. It seemed that Dantum had noticed that Glar was having some issues with his leg. Fortunately, it was not bothering him too much to walk properly. “No thanks, I think I will be able to walk properly. Now I think that we should leave these tunnels before someone ends up victorious in the fight back there.” he continued.

Exiting the caves turned out not to be too difficult, and Glar and Dantum did not encounter any more issues on there way out. Once they reached the surface of Orax, the star that the planet orbited was beginning to set, causing the massive crystal formations to appear ghostly and mysterious in the grey semi-light. As Glar began walking towards his ship, he handed Dantum a stack of credits.
“Thank you for helping me retrieve the pyramid. Here is your payment, as promised.” he said. With that, he walked to his ship, and set off for his next journey.

Time: Long after both Glar and Dantum have left Orax.

A sinister looking shuttle exited hyperspace above the planet Orax. It landed on the Northeastern region of the planet, and after the landing ramp extended, five tall figures in masks emerged. At the head of the group was Jej Ulchtar, Glar’s father and the leader of the Pyke Syndicate. The group walked over to the ship which belonged to a bounty hunter the Syndicate had hired to capture Glar. After searching it, and concluding that it devoid of anything important to them, they moved on to the tunnels. At the entrance to the tunnel, Jej examined the decaying probe droid, and silently chuckled to himself. After reaching the chamber where the pyramid was formerly stored, the group saw that what ever the chamber had been designed to store was long gone. They also found what was left of the Syndicate bounty hunter.
“It appears that I have underestimated Glar’s capabilities. Tell the remaining bounty hunters they will need to work in a group next time, and that if they fail, I will find more capable replacements for them.” Jej told the rest of the group. They nodded their heads, and all five of them walked out of the tunnels, and back to the shuttle.
