Private There's A Story in There

"We haven't seen them before."

"And our visions don't give us names either. Only images and feelings."

"But they are dangerous enough in that the big popular governments are fighting them."

"Sometimes it's in defence, other times it's offence."

"We don't really know if they will come here."

"But Broka hopes not. And we hope not too."

Such a thing would no doubt lead to the death of the twins. Afterall, what monsters could see what benefits the twins could offer them? The two would surely be torn to pieces.

Whether or not Sy' Lanat Sy' Lanat would try to hunt them down was up to him. It wasn't a political war going on our there, but survival of the fittest. Willow and Ivy were not the fittest by far....

"I'd imagine most people wouldn't want something like these creatures invading. Then again, most beings don't generally appreciate having life-altering changes forced upon them. Some are willing to take extreme measures to ensure some aspects of their lives are unchanged. There was some guy on Dubrillion who apparently had nothing better to do with his money than spend it all on paying for smugglers to bring in his preferred spice once the government starting locking down the spaceports. There had been something akin to a civil war ongoing and the leadership was trying to crack down on offworlder support of the insurgency. I was placed under house arrest for a week until some bureaucrat decided my paperwork was good. Even then, couldn't take my rifle with me. I ended up waiting about two months for the fighting to die down before the first civilian transports began to leave with passengers... There were a lot of refugees. If something big attacks here, I don't know if there would be many opportunities for people to escape." The Chiss spoke softly towards the end, contemplating the sort of ravages this world and its population would likely sustain in an invasion. War was nothing like the hunt, the honor warriors claimed was not what Sy' wanted any part of.

"Anyway though, I'm sure you have some off-world if something should happen right? What would you do if Broka were no longer around to protect you?"

Willow & Ivy Willow & Ivy

The twins had never thought of invaders coming to their home and attacking Broka's palaces. No doubt his guards and their own bodygard Vyn Daldoure Vyn Daldoure would do whatever they could to protect them. But whether or not it was enough to protect them against monsters or invading armies was undecided. The very thought had sent chills down their spines, yet they were quite certain that Broka would have some kinds of plans in place to get them all to safety before they were in extreme danger.

"Broka has other palaces on other worlds that we could be brought to if there was enough notice about an impending attack."

However the second question that Sy' Lanat Sy' Lanat had spoken gave them both a moment's pause. What would they do without Broka? No doubt they'd be in the hands of some other warlord, crimelord or group wanting to take advantage of their gifts.

"We don't know what we'd do without Broka. We have no homes of our own or means of travel. Someone would take us, regardless of whether or not it was for better or for worse for us." At least so far they hadn't been used for some sort of ransom against Broka as of yet. It was hoped that they never would be.

"Hmm, seems pretty rough. Not exactly how I would want to live, jumping from one crime boss to the next." The words came out as Sy' mused on how his life had been just that for some time. It was common knowledge, on most worlds anyways, that mercenaries, particularly of his bent, all too often were held in employment by specific individuals, usually with criminal connections and a great deal of political clout, until a more powerful or cunning opponent took over. Then again, he had chosen this life. That was a pretty important difference. They seemed content with their decision, if somewhat uncertain on future prospects.

"Eh, enough of the black thoughts. That's for when the times are dark. Today seems to have brought a pleasant surprise for the bo- three of us. Beg your pardon. I imagine that you get to meet all sort of interesting folk in this line of work. Underworld stuff tends to be seeded with fascinating, if not entirely safe, people." The crimson eyes turned to gaze at a group of patrons, the strange and alien forms of other sentients often quite eye-catching.

Sy returned his focus to the duo before him and continued on a new line of thought, "I'm pretty sure your boss has plenty of help and ships lined up if the worst should happen. But if he ever needs another one, let him know I can take up some slack. If he ever gives you leave, and you want to go somewhere, I'd be happy to show you some of the safer sites to be seen. Maybe even give you a bit of practice with a firearm sometime! Though, I'd imagine you'd much rather spend time seeing what the galaxy is like."

Willow & Ivy Willow & Ivy

Neither Willow or Ivy had chosen the lives that they were given. But their attachment didn't help to aid them in living anything else. Yet despite how bad it seemed to Sy' Lanat Sy' Lanat and others, it could always be a lot worse for the pair.

And it had been. That is until Broka came.

"Oh yes, we meet plenty of interesting people."

"Broka likes us to observe them and see where their webs go."

"Everyone has pretty webs coning out of them, all mingling with eachother."

"Except for the Dark Ones. Theirs are black and ugly."

The twins gave Sy an apologetic smile in response to his offer to show them around the Galaxy and to teach them how to use a firearm. Unfortunately it was against the rules they had to live under. "Thank you for the offer."

"We would go if we could."

"But we are not permitted to travel on our own."

"Nor are we permitted to hold a weapon."

"It is for both our safety and for his."
