After proving his proficiency with a light-saber by cycling through multiple techniques with mechanical perfection, a Kel Dor Blademaster had given him permission borrow a training saber for personal use. Not like he could do much with it though. While the containment field was a strong as a normal saber, its output of the energy stream that cycled through the containment loop was extremely weak; the training saber enough to deflect a blaster bolt or repulse another saber, but he wouldn't be able to deal much more damage than a first degree burn with direct skin contact. After receiving the approval of the Blademaster, he informed Uther of a training opportunity outside with another master.
While the mercenary was experienced with a saber, it had been a while since he had wielded one, not since he had put down his old saber. From his discussion with the Kel Dor, it sounded like only a beginner's class, it wouldn't hurt to use it as an opportunity to work off some rust and mingle with future comrades in arms. On his way to the location, he toyed his saber, waving around the sword of ice blue light to get comfortable using such a weapon again. Lightsabers were difficult to handle. As the blade had no mass, there was no counterweight, making the weapon unbalanced. The containment loop and the generator that created the field resulted in a significant amount centrifugal force, creating resistance to manipulating the saber. And of course, the whole contact area of the blade was just as dangerous the wielder as their target(s), giving rise to such techniques such as the
Saarlac's Face.
He had arrived after the master had cast his illusion on the training field, so Uther was met with the vision of a metallic dome. Perceiving the construct through Force, he couldn't make out anything clearly within the construct itself, but he could see how warped the space was in comparison to its surroundings. Other signs alerted him that he was in the right place, like the scent of fresh human musk, vibrations from the vigorous movement of multiple people, several sets of boot tracks in the soft ground the led right inside the dome.
Gingerly, he picked up a stick and passed one end through the dome. He felt no resistance, and pulled it out to find it unchanged in any way. Seemed alright to pass through, so he did, finding the scene of multiple Jedi sparring. The scene was much different within, that of a thick forest surrounding them. With what he knew of the Jedi, he concluded the construct likely the work of a White Current user.
Remaining at the edge, he powered down his saber, observing the multiple duels unfolding before him. He didn't witness anything amazing from them, but most appeared competent. One exception was the mud man sparring with a female novice, who he assumed to be the master and leader of this session. It was clear he was holding back on the woman, almost toying with her, while she lagged behind in her counters, clearly distracted. It was almost like she was getting caught up oogling him. She earned a few good lickings for her distraction though. He found the fight between the other two men of the group the most interesting, of friends. They fought creatively, almost dirty even, the duel ending with the Blues Eyes clocking Duster in the face. There had been plenty of sugar behind that punch, which resulted in Duster getting his nose broken. For some reason, that made him smile.
The Jedi Master that had been sparring with Hot-and-Bothered called for a pause in sparring, then asked them what else they wanted to learn. There were multiple answers thrown out, mostly calls for different saber forms. He had no preferences, already familiar with the mechanics of seven forms from years of combat against other saber wielders. He would go with whatever was decided, but he did want one thing. He lined up with the rest of the students, crossing burly arms over his chest before he made a request.
"Nothing I can think of at the moment, but I wouldn't mind a one-on-one with you. I think that would help me figure something out."
