THROUGH THE FIRE
THE GREAT ERROR vol. I
Issue #7 w/ Jem Fossk Aerarii Tithe Auteme Ruus Seto Du Couteau
Makeshift medic camps dotted the streets of Jedha, or rather what remained of them. Those wounded seemed to be off the lesser number in comparison to those who had been fully wrapped beneath a white veil of cloth. A hundred or so engagements, skirmishes or full-blown battles, hung on his belt from the Stygian Campaign, and yet none could match the absolute destruction the New Sith Order and the Maw left behind despite the number of conflicts being half of that, maybe even less. Coruscant, Jakku, Jedha and all along the frontier the Maw and their Sith overlords left nothing but cinder and ash.
Not a single soul to remember.
Their legacy was built not by the word of mouth of their exploits but by the corpses that remained in their wake.
Dagon Kaze, Knight of the New Jedi Order, had miraculously survived an encounter with Darth Solipsis , the prophetized Sith'ari of the Sith... Jem's father. The raven-haired investigator had sought him out, fully prepared to give his life to end Solipsis' reign of terror. With the help of Zaka , he had managed to hang on a last, thin thread of life and escape being consumed by the Sith's maw of death. The epilogue of their battle had been marred by Dagon's decision to yank Zaka away from what looked like a vulnerable Solipsis. And yet, in the final moment, the Knight had seen through the Sith'ari deception, saving Zaka in the process. He could not, in his heart, live knowing he had gambled the Black Fang's life. But those details remained unsaid between the two Jedi as they had both had departed the scene in silence.
Some day soon he would explain but today... today he had to cling to life.
He's wrapping yet another bandage across his lacerating arm, going all the way across his chest, when the cameras start rolling and the Senatorial delegation marches down the street. He barely gives it any attention, life's nearly gone from his eyes as he's still recuperating from the Sith Lord's attempt to consume his life essence.
And then, the spotlight suddenly shifts to him when the damn Chancellor himself tries waving him in for a PR stunt.
Shaking his head curtly, he replies plainly, "Not here to net you next election's votes, Chancellor."
If there was anything more he wanted to add, it certainly abates at the sight of none other than his apprentice approaching the politician from his other side. As exhausted as he is, the Force tingles at the back of his head in warning.
"Jem!" and then the question that's been said a thousand and one times, "...what are you doing here?" as much as Dag wants to teach her discipline, he couldn't help but feel a tinge of guilt. He'd come for Solipsis to end her plight. To end the curses he had cast upon his daughter.
And like always - he had failed.
Not a single soul to remember.
