ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:

 • Armament: With four heavy laser cannons and two concussion missile launchers the TIE/E lives up to its space superiority role. It’s capable of taking on almost any other fighter design with its paired fire mode, firing two weapons at a time. In addition the pilot can set all four cannons to fire simultaneously for 4 seconds, dealing serious damage to enemy craft at the cost of a 4 second cool-down in which the cannons are unable to fire afterwards.

 • Defenses : Unlike the original TIE models which the TIE/E takes inspiration from, this model carries strong protections such as electronic missile jammers and, rather than standard deflector shields, the TIE/E carries a molecular shield generator, which absorbs rather than deflects incoming laser fire, redirecting the energy to other ship systems.

 • Droid Pilot: While the ship isn’t specialized for complex maneuvers, the use of a TS-P droid to pilot them allows for maneuvers that, in atmosphere, would put severe strain on the pilot. In addition an on-board life support system is completely unnecessary, allowing power to be utilized elsewhere such as weapons or engines.

 • Operational Freedom : Unlike the drone fighters that EODD produces, the TIE/E possesses a hyperdrive, allowing it to travel long distances through space on its own without the need for a carrier or ground base. This gives it the freedom to perform hit-and-run attacks alone or in squadrons, jumping to a target area to strike before jumping back out quickly.

 • On-board Droids: Rather than an astromech the TIE/E carries with it an EB-S Droid Brain and E-SM Spider Mechanic Droids which split the purpose of the astromech. The EB-S handled both real and hyperspace navigation plotting as well as running diagnostics while taking up minimal space, and the spider droids utilize their small size and magnetized legs to make repairs all over the ship in and out of combat. They do this by utilizing special exit and entrance ports placed around the ship allowing access to the rear engine block and weapons, as well as the exterior of the fighter.
Weaknesses:

 • Ion Weaponry: While the molecular shields and armored hull provide substantial protection from laser and blaster fire, ion weaponry is restricted by neither, and prove a serious threat to the ship’s systems in a combat situation.

 • Projectile Weaponry : Similarly to the above, projectile weaponry such as rockets, torpedoes, missiles, and mass driver fire can slip past the shields and easily damage the ship.

 • Shield Overcharge: The operation method of molecular shielding is to absorb and redirect incoming laser and blaster fire, which provides opportunity for enemies willing to pursue them. If the shields are struck continuously, especially with significantly powerful weaponry, it runs a growing risk of overcharging the shield, causing damage to ship systems and eventually failure of the shield. In this instance the generator would suffer serious damage. While it can be repaired given time by the on-board maintenance droids, the ship is highly vulnerable to incoming fire without the shield. Most standard turbolasers provide enough energy in a single bolt to manage this with one shot.

 • Skeletal Wing Design: Unlike the older ARC-170 fighter from which it draws partial inspiration the TIE/E’s wings are rather thin, most obvious when the S-foils are extended into attack position. This leaves them vulnerable to even light fire as they’re not reinforced like the main hull of the ship, meaning missiles can cause severe damage, or even laser cannon fire if the shields are knocked out. Losing one wing severely cripples the ship’s combat ability, leaving it requiring replacement and significant repairs if it isn’t outright destroyed in combat after the damage.

 • E-War: While a cap drain provides protection from an EMP attack, the TIE/E is still vulnerable to jamming, potentially rendering its missiles incapable of lock, as well as making it sensor-blind and preventing it from communicating with other ships if caught unaware.
Description:

Drone fighters had been the norm for EODD production for some time, but after discovering the ancient remains of an old Imperial TIE/IN fighter, development began on a more specialized kind of fighter, something high-end that could give the EODD defense forces an edge. To this end the best things about the older TIE were taken and combined with post-Imperial starfighter ideology, mixing speed and firepower with a solid shield and extra armor. The result of this development was the TIE/E Space Superiority Fighter.

Boasting a deadly combination of four heavy laser cannons and molecular shielding, the TIE/E can take serious punishment and dish it right back. Its shield works to absorb and redirect incoming laser and blaster fire, not only neutralizing the threats but turning them into its own benefit as that energy is put into other systems, such as powering weapons or the engines. With two concussion missile launchers added on its lethality is only improved, using Deathstrike concussion missiles against all targets to spectacular destructive effect.

As an EODD product, the TIE/E carries several items produced only by them. An EB-S Droid Brain is installed into the mainframe of the ship, replacing an astromech for hyperspace and realspace plotting as well as diagnostic duties for the ship. In order to carry out repairs in combat in the absence of an astromech, the TIE/E also have five E-SM Spider Mechanic droids that use their small size and magnetic leg appendages to their advantage, moving through specialized miniature ports throughout the hull to access the ship’s systems such as engines and weapons. The ship also has depressurization ports designed just for the droids to allow them to leave to the exterior of the ship for repairs in the midst of combat.

The weapons of the TIE/E have also been boosted with some extra technology. Each unit comes equipped with a TATS, a targeting computer package that allows for acquisition and tracking of multiple targets at exceptional range by calculating their trajectory constantly until the weapons are fired, allowing for highly accurate bursts of fire. In addition, its four heavy laser cannons can be set to fire all at the same time for a 5 second period, delivering a heavy barrage of fire. Of course this requires a heavy output of power to the weapons, something achieved thanks to the lack of a life support system allowing more power to be diverted to the weapons, but after five seconds the weapons automatically lock into a safe position to allow them to cool down, leaving the ship unable to fire until the the four-second period is completed.

Due to the amount of proprietary EODD technology, the need to keep certain items out of the hands of competitors or scavengers is paramount. While the EB-S brain possesses an internal self-destruction method, the ship itself is wired with a separate system. Either through activation by its pilot, or an intentional signal from a carrier or ground base that the unit is assigned to, the on-board reactor will begin an overload process resulting in an explosion of the ship guaranteed to render critical systems and EODD-limited property unsalvageable. Even standard jammers, however, can jam this signal from reaching the ship and triggering the self-destruct.
