To meet a Knight

It was a bright, beautiful day on Voss. A day that one would be horribly remiss to not at least soak in some of the serene perfection.

On this day, a particular Droid could be found trundling along paths, warbling to itself, as it observed various individuals. Pausing one here or there, the Droid would examine their face, confirming they were not the Padawan the Droid was looking for.

Eventually though, the M1 unit found its quarry. A girl... no, more accurately a young woman. A padawan. One [Member=Kianna Auli'i]. The Droid would unapologetically trill and squeal, dancing from one of its leg to the other, pleased finding its target. After calming down, the astromech introduced itself as M1-V1, or 'Emvee' as it's Master affectionately dubbed it.

Emvee then produced a small holomessage addressed to the girl. The image was faulty, but the audio was flawless. A gentle, warm, almost musical voice greeted the young Padawan.

"Greetings Kianna. I am Knight Ryn'Dhal, and I was asked to further your training. I sent my trusted Droid, copilot, and friend Emvee to find you. Don't let him chat your ear off." The voice would laugh, a rich, soothing sound. "He shall guide you to me. I eagerly look forward to meeting you!"

Upon the conclusion of the missive, the Droid rolled away a few paces, before stopping to look back at the young woman, an eager, playful series of squeals being emitted, as if calling for her to come along.

About a week before, Kianna Auli'i arrived on Voss from Maridun. It just seemed like a good time to visit the planet again as she had had enough of seeing Maridun for a little while since that was where she had been all her life. Today was a beautiful day. One she couldn't pass up, ignore or stay indoors all day. She would usually be in the library, but today, reading sounded boring.. more than usual actually.

Kianna was window shopping today, just looking in and thinking of what she would want to purchase on her way back. Especially when it came to the chocolates and different candies. She then figured she needed more dresses for the upcoming meetings with different senators and started heading towards a clothing store. She would usually make her own dresses that fit her style, but today she was feeling the need that since she was out and not on her home world, to purchase something that was from Voss.

On her way there though, she was stopped by an astromech that seemed to be squealing with delight. He seemed pretty happy to see her and opened up a transmission.

"Hello there, little guy."

she said as the transmission then started. She listened and her eyes widened with delight when someone off-world knew who she was. The Man speaking in the transmission showed himself to be a Jedi Knight as he mentioned that he was given the task of continuing her training. She was happy to know that someone was excited to meet her and she was also happy to know that it was a kind person and a Jedi that was going to hopefully finish her training. The sound of his voice already told her that he was a good man and she herself was pretty excited to be meeting him soon.

Kianna looked to the little droid name Emvee and smiled after the transmission ended. She giggled as he made a few beeps asking eagerly for her to follow him.

"I'm right behind you, Emvee."

she responded with another giggle and smile. She then stood up straight and followed the droid.

The little droid would trill and chirp all long their journey up to the Voss Jedi Academy. The droid told the young Padawan about the library, the hangar bay, the armory, and about a particularly rambunctious Naulotan named Zak that liked to 'raid' the cafeteria with remarkable frequency.

All the while the droid led the young woman along to the training areas. There, in the outer gardens she could see small groups learning from wizened Masters in various mental or Force abilities. But, the droid did not stop at any of the groups.

No, the droid led the young woman to the training chambers. Closed off rooms where ones could train, often in martial arts, without disrupting the more peaceful exercises out in the gardens. The droid parked itself off to the side of the door, intoning for the girl to enter.

_____________________________

Inside, the young woman would find a solitary being. The individual held two swords. Not lightsabers, but real, durasteel blades. The figure, clad entirely in black, save the mask, was moving, as if circling an unseen foe. Then the dance began. Movements were fluid, smooth, and possessing an inhuman level of grace. The individual slashed, parried, and evaded with efficient yet elegant flips and tumbles.

Each move was calculated, not one mote of energy wasted on foolish flare. This was a skilled warrior, dancing with the grace of the greatest ballets.

Suddenly, the masked warrior sling both blades forth, and through the unseen hand of the Force, he stopped the swords in place, before drawing them back into his gloved hands. Slowly sheathing them at the small of his back, he turned to a equipment station along the far wall. There, a long, hooded cloak hung, along with a twin pair of elegant, curved-hilt lightsabers, who found their home once more at his hips. Pulling the cloak on, he turned, and flinched in shock at the sight of the young Padawan.

"OH! I'm terribly sorry! I was so engrossed, I did not hear you enter!! Please forgive me." He'd apologize approaching the woman. At closer range, Kianna would be able to see the thin eye slits in the mask, and through them, the molten gold colored eyes shimmering back at her. "I am Knight Ryn'Dhal. And you must be Padawan [member=Kianna Auli'i], if I'm not mistaken?"

There was a small smile upon Kianna's face as the droid spoke to her, telling her all about the Academy. It was rather a beautiful place.. much prettier than her home planet. When Emvee specifically said something about a Naulotan named Zak, Kianna gave a sarcastic look, thinking about what he would do if he saw her.

"Zak, huh? Hopefully I'll be able to help keep him under control..."

she said in response. As they went past the gardens, she stopped for a second, taking in the smell of the flowers around as she took a quick look at the Padawans training. She then moved quickly, catching up with Emvee as they made their way inside. When they came to a door, Emvee pulled over to the side, prompting her to go inside. She placed a gentle hand on his dome and walked into the room.

She saw a single being in the center of the room. She watched him as he practiced. He had such an elegant figure as he moved gracefully across the room. She smiled as she watched him, enjoying watching what he was doing. When he finally saw her in the room, she noticed that he was surprised by her presence. She giggled as he apologized.

"No, no, no, it's alright sir."

she responded.

"Yes, my name is Kianna Auli'i. It's a pleasure to meet you, Master Ryn'Dhal."

Kianna said, bowing her head as she introduced herself.

[member="Ryn'Dhal"]

Standing before the young woman, she would find that, aides from the mask, and the shrouded, assassin-like appearance, he did not cut a physically imposing figure. He stood barely any taller that Kianna, and looked only slightly more solid than the padawan.

The Knight took the padawan in, gauging her presence in the Force. She possessed potential, though still largely untapped. That was good. That meant there would be much for him to impart upon the student.

"I assume the Master's taught you the basics of Meditation, yes? As well as simple telekinesis, pushing and pulling distant objects?" Those were common lessons for young padawan's. Even the basics of saber-play is imparted on padawan. Form 1.

While she answered, Ryn turned and began making sweeping gestures with his arms, moving three small podiums, each about three feet tall and made of stone, into place. He then gestures for three crates, each filled with small, colored ceramic disks to the two of them.

Turning to the padawan, he smiled, though it was unseen beneath the mask, except for his eyes. Those expressive, molten gold hues hid no emotion. His smile was also evident in his voice as he spoke. "This display, was to show you just an example of what you will be able to do one day. It takes time, and practice, to be able to move heavy objects, or even multiple objects, with ease. You won't be able to do so immediately, but in time, you will."

He smiled warmly with those eyes, as, with a flick of his wrist, all three crates popped open. "Would you like to dive right into our first lesson? Place one disk, of reach color, on each pedestal."

[member="Kianna Auli'i"]

Calmly, with a small smile upon her face, she examined Ryn'Dhal's figure. He was well built even if he was a few inches off from Kianna's height, while she held a rather graceful and regal pose. She knew he was no threat. All she could sense through the force for him, was like a fresh breath of air. She could see the big deep golden eyes through the mask. She liked them. And she knew she felt comfortable around him, which was a good thing, especially if they were to be training with each other.

Her force and lightsaber training, were not the greatest to say the least, but when it came to acrobatics, she was quite the gymnast. She carried two Silvery-blue blades with her for protection, but she hadn't a clue of how to truly use the sabers. She knew the basics of igniting them, blocking simple attacks and melting door shut with them. Her force powers though, was slightly under control, but was like a wild mustang waiting to be tamed.

"Yes, I was taught the basics of Meditation."

she responded kindly. After she responded, she watched as he used the force to raise pedestals and then gently place crates upon the pedestals. She had to say, she was truly amazed and started getting more and more excited as she realized it was truly real and not a dream. Hearing what he said after, she smiled and gave a small nod, rather speechless. She was only able to mutter one word..

"Wow.."

she said under her breath.

"I'm not great with the force, as at the castle, I tend to get into more trouble using it than any of my usual castle arguments with the staff or if I start doing my gymnastics in the common room.."

she giggled, recalling those moments, but then pulled herself from her thoughts, bringing herself back to the current moment. Looking to his eyes, she could just tell he was smiling as he asked her if she wanted to get into their first lesson. Kianna nodded eagerly, excited to get started. As he instructed her to stack the colored disks one on top of the other, she paused for a second asking what she thought to be an awkward question.

"They won't break if I accidentally drop them, will they?"

she asked real quick in a somewhat shy tone.

[member="Ryn'Dhal"]

"One does not learn more through success, but by failure." the masked Knight stated, that warm smile held within his voice and his eyes. "And should they fall and break, I have many to spare. And, even the broken shards, while unable to be made whole again, can still serve a purpose. It is okay."

Ryn'Dhal gestured a few more times, bring each of the three crates to rest right next to the two of them. The colors of the ceramic disks were yellow, red, and green. "I will be honest, I do expect you to break some. But, it is okay. I did as well. I would never ask you to attempt a task that I have not done myself." He'd state, as he turned from her to face the three pedestals. They were each positioned approximately five meters away, and equally spread from one another.

"I would like you to place, a single one, one at a time, on each of the pedestals. Order, color, and sequence does not matter at this time. Go ahead, center yourself, meditate as needed, and proceed at your own pace and timing. We are in no hurry. You are the one in charge of our timing here Padawan." That ever present smile never faded once from his voice. He seemed so aged, so sagely and reserved. His calm demeanor did not necessarily match the explosive energy he exhibited moments before.

[member="Kianna Auli'i"]

Kianna looked at Ryn'Dhal and smiled. There was no doubt she liked this guy and training would probably never be dull. She was happy to know that if any of the disks broke, it wouldn't be the first time. As he then used the force to bring the crates next to them Kianna looked inside to see green, yellow and red disks. She gave a short nod as she saw them and looked back up to Ryn'Dhal as he spoke once more. She gave a small smile and a giggle as he said that he expected her to break a few.

"Well, I'll hopefully keep the breaking of the disks at a low, but if you knew me back home, the chef won't even allow me into the kitchen due to me trying to do this once before.."

she responded. She then looked to the pedestals and hoped that all of the disks wouldn't end up on the ground. She heard what Ryn'Dhal said and nodded as she then closed her eyes, meditating until she felt comfortable. Then remembering which color was set where, she lifted a green disk slowly out of the crate and held it in the air for a second, before moving it towards the center pedestal.

When she sensed that it had reached the pedestal, she opened her eyes to look real quick. The disk was on the edge of the center pedestal and as she took a look at it, it fell to the ground. She jumped and then gave a look upon hearing the disk shatter once it hit the floor.

"Of course.. I look at it and it falls."

she said in a sarcastic manner.

[member="Ryn'Dhal"]

Smile never faltering for a moment, Ryn'Dhal would chuckle. "It is quite alright Padawan. That was most impressive! You got much further than I had on my first attempt at such an exercise."

He placed a gloved hand gently on her shoulder, while his other hand gestured, almost lazily, as the ceramic shards swirled into the air, drifting idly over to a basket. "Those shall be used for another exercise. The Masters at the Academy did well with your instruction."

"Think of this as a muscle. The more you work at it, the better and more efficient you'll become. You have these ceramic plates to break here, which you have permission accidentally break, so do not fear your failures. Embrace them, grow from them, and ultimately overcome them."

He turn to face her. "Take your time, visualize your target, picture your success, and make it happen. I believe in you Padawan."

[member="Kianna Auli'i"]

Kianna smiled when she heard Ryn'Dhal complimenting on what she had done so far. She herself hadn't expected to get that far. All she had to do was focus more get the disk onto the pedestal a little further to make sure it would not fall.

She felt as he placed a hand on her shoulder and then swept up the shards from the disks into a basket with the force. She was amazed by this and smiled a little wider.

"Thank you. My mother knew one of my dad's trusted friends and he was left in charge to raise and train me. When I started doing things a little faster than what he could handle, he brought me to the Temple where my training was continued."

she responded. After she stopped talking, she listened to Ryn'Dhal as he explained for her to keep focus and learn from her mistakes. She smiled and nodded, accepting what he said. Focusing on the force, she lifted up a yellow disk this time. It wobbled as it slowly moved through the air and towards the pedestal. This time, she decided to not open her eyes as she sensed that the disk was in the same place as the last and she gave it a final push through the force, centering it onto the pedestal.

Kianna opened her eyes, seeing the disk on the pedestal and smiled happily.

[member="Ryn'Dhal"]

Gloved hands came together as soon as he felt his Padawan break her concentration after centering the disk. "Excellent! One down, two to go!" He'd say, that ever-present smile in his voice. He glided over, his graceful strides measured and even, his movements almost other-worldly in the finesse he bore. He quickly circled the pedestal, observing the centering of the disk. "Very, very well done for still being in your beginning stages. Almost right on center. I do believe you gave just a faint bit too much in your final nudge last time. Try again, but measure your output on the next one."

He'd clap again, obvious joy exuding from his aura, as he rejoined Kianna over by the crates. "I know the exertion may be great, but trust me, pushing yourself through these exercises will strengthen you greatly over time. Get one green, and one red, on the other two pedestals, and we'll call this lesson a wrap for now. Agreed?" He'd inquire, that same, gentle, melodic tone carrying on, only just slightly muddled by that mask of his.

[member="Kianna Auli'i"]

Kianna smiled as she heard Ryn'Dhal praising her for what she had done. She had to admit, after the last one breaking, she was pretty impressed and happy of herself for actually having the disk make it to the pedestal this time without it falling and breaking. She watched as he walked over to examine the disk and then reported that she had gone a little further than centered on the pedestal and she nodded in response, taking note of it.

Her eyes calmly followed him as he came back over to her, sensing obvious joy for his new Padawan. She listened to his instruction and smiled once he finished explaining the plan of what they would be doing.

"Yes master."

she replied with the calm still slightly excited smile on her face. Then focusing on the disks once more, a red disk lifted into the air and once more wobbled as it moved towards the left pedestal. She briefly lost it through the force, but was able to recover quickly right before it would have hit the ground. Her heart was palpitating during those few quick seconds as it had startled her, but she was glad to have regained focus as the disk moved closer and closer to the pedestal.

Soon, she sensed that the disk was touching the pedestal. She gave it a gentle push, sensing it through the force and then made sure it was centered on the pedestal. Afterwards, she lifted up a green disk and started moving it towards the right pedestal. This time it was at least not as wobbly, it didn't break and she had lost focus again, but regained it much quicker than last time and moved it all the way to the pedestal, making sure again that it was perfectly aligned within the center of it. She then opened her eyes, smiling as she looked up to Ryn'Dhal.

"I have to admit, dropping the red one startled me a little bit."

she said, giggling.

[member="Ryn'Dhal"]

He had sensed the falter, and managed to remain silent, and refused to allow his impulse to react and catch the red disk for her to take effect. No, he was going to let her succeed, or fail, on her own. But, as she caught the red disk again, a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. Yes, she had excellent potential, and in time, she'd be ready to move on to the next level of Telekinesis training. She performed even better with the green disk. When she confessed to being shaken by the first near-drop with the red disk, Ryn'Dhal shared a chuckle with her giggle, before nodding. "Truth be told, I sensed the break in your contact when it happened. It startled me as well for a moment. But, you recovered admirably!"

He then nodded towards the pedestals, that warm smile still in those molten gold eyes. "Let us see how much better you did this time!" Leading the way over, he circled first the red, then the green, giving each a nod of approval. "Not perfectly centered, but few can ever get such perfectly in the center. Not even I. But, much closer! Excellent. Most excellent." He'd say, nodding enthusiastically. He'd turn to his padawan, giving a pleased clap with those gloved hands. "You see, this exercise, while somewhat simple in nature, is far from simple in execution. When I was first asked to do this same feat, I broke no less than three disks. But, my Master was.... is.... a very stern, severe woman. She expected great things out of me, much as I do of you." He'd say, smiling all the while. "But, while she was a very stern, imposing individual, I feel that I could not teach as she did. I will not shield you from failure, or defeat, as you would never learn that way, I believe a warm, nurturing manner will yield much better results."

He'd shrug, laughing lightly. "I could just be soft, but I feel that you will learn much more from me if you can relate to me, than if you were afraid of me." His tone, though, took on a shade of nervousness, betraying him momentarily. He heard it in his own voice, and knew for sure the padawan had as well. Heaving a soft sigh, he'd shake his head. "Well, on that note, perhaps I should educate you on whom it is that lives beneath the mask, yes?"

[member="Kianna Auli'i"]

"I'm quite glad I was able to. Usually if something gets broken, I'm the one who's blamed anyway."

she giggled with a troublemaker look on her face for only a second, before her look went back to normal. Kianna hated the sound of ceramic smashing anyway. It always had a sharp, loud sound and it succeeded in freaking her out everytime. When he then suggested to check out what she had done, Kianna followed him over to the pedestals looking at each one. Her perspective on "perfect" wasn't the greatest, but then, who's was?

"Oh believe me, I wouldn't expect you to shield me from such things. It is only human nature to learn through such ways. I'm sorry to hear you had such a harsh master. She made an amazing one out of you though."

Kianna smiled in response.

"So far, I don't believe I could fear you, for fear would lead me down a path I couldn't possibly follow. And I found kindness does have quite the effect on some people."

She responded with another giggle.When he then mentioned of removing his mask, nervousness was evident in his voice and she was suddenly curious of why he was so nervous.

"Yes, I believe it would be nice if we both knew who we both truly are."

Kianna said calmly.

[member="Ryn'Dhal"]

"Are you familiar with the Felacatian race?" The masked Knight asked, his head angling slightly towards one shoulder. He observed her for her response. Either way she went, he continued on. "The Felacatian are from a world known as Felacat. They are a polymorphic race. Commonly, they are humanoid. But, in times of great stress, when threatened, or when stuck in hyperspace travel for too long, they transform. This transformation, is that of a great cat. Their claws and fangs are capable of shredding durasteel like knives through cloth."

Ryn'Dhal watched his padawan intently as he told her this, keen to observe her reaction. "I did not know what I was for most of my life. I was born a slave on Nar Shaddaa. I was.... exotic.... unique even.... It was not until I was.... close to your age I think.... That I was freed, and brought to the Silver Sanctum, here. To Voss. But, many more years passed until I met another, just like myself."

Still watching his padawan, the masked face angled towards the other shoulder. "Knowing this, I think I may be ready to remove my mask. I just ask you, be patient with me, as I venture outside of my own comfort zone...."

[member="Kianna Auli'i"]

When he asked if Kianna knew about the Felecation species, she thought for a second and then remembered reading about them when she was little. She remembered them mostly being a cat/ human-ish species.

"Yes, I've actually read about the Felcation species."

she replied. Cats were one of her most favorite animals, so the Felecations became easily a favorite species of hers. She then listened to what he was saying, showing interest in who he was. When he mentioned that removing his mask was outside of his comfort zone, she nodded, giving a smile of comfort and understanding.

"Take your time. I know what it's like to be stepping outside of your comfort zone. I have to do it all the time. But don't worry, I have seen the Felecation species before. One of my favorites to learn about, to be honest."

she replied calmly. Kianna was unsure of how to react once he would take his mask off. Like she said, she'd seen the species before, so it would be nothing new to her.

[member="Ryn'Dhal"]

A soft chuckle was give, as he swept the hood back, revealing the clasps for the face-plate for his helmet. "I am.... not.... 'normal' for my kind. Which was why I had not known of my kind for most of my life...." He'd continue, the snap-hiss of the mask's seal breaking cutting into the dialogue. As he pulled the helmet off, a vigorous shake of his head would be given, his very pronounced ears flopping about in their newfound freedom.

The exaggerated feline features, complete with whiskers even, now stared back at the Padawan. "I am.... well.... a bit of an anomaly.... a freak, if you will...." The obviously distressed Knight did a great job maintaining composure. Yes, his only fear in this universe. Rejection. "I've faced Sith Lords in various degrees of combat, have survived capture on multiple occasion, and even been abandoned for months on Umbarra...." Ryn'Dhal continued, sheepishly, the whole time those large feline ears pivoting, independent of one another, "But I'd rather face any of those hardships, than face ridicule and condemnation at the hands of those I call my 'family', like I do the Silver Order...."

So, with taking a strong, steadying breath, he released his helmet, which slowly drifted over to one of the pedestals, resting completely atop the yellow disk, hiding it from view, while he removed his gloves, revealing furry, claw-tipped hands, complete with soft pads along his palms and digits. He suffered from a dramatic genetic abnormality, which cause all the latent feline traits of his race to become grossly pronounced and visible to all who witnessed it.

"This is me, the one who seeks to train you. Can you accept?"

[member="Kianna Auli'i"]

Kianna watched as he would unlatch the helmet. Once he removed the helmet, it revealed black fur and those deep, big, beautiful golden eyes. As he looked to her, she gave a warm smile, her icy blue eyes looking into his golden orbs. When he mentioned and specifically called himself a freak, Kianna gave him a look and walked over to him calmly to get a better look at him.

"Today may be our first time meeting each other, but you are not a freak no matter what you say or what others say. If the Order can't accept you, they obviously have too much on their plate."

she responded. She was no way in fear of his features. In fact, she was quite happy to know who lay beneath the mask. Once he took the gloves off, she took his paws into her hands gently and looked him in the eye responding truthfully.

"Of course I can accept. To me, skin color, fur or no fur and the like doesn't matter to me. It's who you are as a living being that matters. It's looking on the inside and seeing the best of one. Like they say, never judge a book by it's cover. It could be hiding the greatest story and most treasurable of all treasures. Look within and you'll see the interior is much different than the exterior."

she responded giving a small smile. She didn't know if he truly knew who she was, but she guessed that sine he revealed himself, she should reveal herself.

"So, since you told me who you are, I believe that it's proper for me to tell you that I am Princess Kianna Auli'i of Maridun. My father was Khan Auli'i. He was a Jedi Knight here in the Temple 15 years ago. He died before I was born. My mother, Queen Mia Auli'i died during childbirth. My father's friend, Caleb took care of me, raising and training me as a Jedi. He left once I was coronated though, because duty called for him on the Outer Rim territory and he felt I was able to take care of myself."

She said. Kianna only hoped that he wouldn't completely freak out.

[member="Ryn'Dhal"]

He was somewhat calmed by her words, though when she touched his hand, his ears reflexively flattened against his scalp , before meekly riding once more. They rarely seemed to cease their movement, tracking sounds she couldn't fathom hearing, always alert, always vigilant.

Giving a slightly nervous chuckle, the feline humanoid cleared his throat. "Well, under most circumstances, I'm certain special treatment of status would be in order... but, from what I've experienced so far of you, you're aware that my doing so would only hinder your progress."

Giving another slight laugh, his right ear flicked slightly, a nervous tick, betraying anxiety. "But, I must thank you, your Grace." He addressed her properly, slipping his hand free of hers, before dropping into a formal bow. "For permitting me to be the one to train you."

When he stood, a warm smile was upon that feline-like face, and even at that small distance, Kianna would surely be able to hear a low, throaty, rumbly noise... yes, the Jedi Knight was purring.

Then, a slight movement would have caught her eye. What was easily passed off at a glance as a black velvet-like belt around his waist was unwinding itself. His tail began flocking about freely behind him, beneath his cloak, bringing itself momentarily into view from behind his legs as he stood there regarding his Padawan.

[member="Kianna Auli'i"]

Kianna would give a small smile hearing what he said. While looking into his eyes, she could see his ears as they were just in view for her. They moved non stop and she absolutely loved them, because they were big. She could tell that he was picking up sounds from everywhere. She wished she had ears that could hear everything. It would certainly save her rear when her staff members came behind her and scared her when she was getting into trouble around the castle.

"Between us, if I've known you for a while or if you are in my life for one reason or another, formalities shouldn't have to matter."

she responded calmly. Usually other Jedi and the like would be used to using formalities with her, but if it was her master or staff that had to deal with her for lord knows how many years, she preferred them using her actual name. Especially since she was only 14. She heard his laugh and her smile widened slightly. She could tell anxiety pulled at him as he pulled his hands from hers and dropping into a bow, thanking her. Kianna respectfully exchanged the bow, bowing her head with her hand to her chest, bending her knees ever so slightly, into a half curtsy, half bow.

"Your welcome. I was just ecstatic from the beginning to know someone actually wanted to train me."

she responded, a warm smile still upon her face. After a few seconds passed by, her glance drew quickly to his waist, seeing that his velvety belt was in fact his tail. She then looked back up to him, her small calm smile still spread across her lips as her head tilted to the left the very slightest. That was definitely a clever way to hide his tail.
