Training for Trouble

Kay stumbled back a bit as he hit her chest with his fist. At least it wasn't a hard hit. She took in a deep breath and forced it out as she got back into her stance. What kind of move could she do that wouldn't seem wild? It wasn't as though she knew what would work for any specific opponent. Fighting just didn't come naturally to her. At least not a physical fight anyways.

Already she felt as though she was taking too much time as she tried to figure out what to do next. Finally Kay swung from up high, bringing her saber down diagonally from his left shoulder towards his right hip. And once he would possibly bring his saber up to meet hers, she would kick at his right knee with her left foot.

As she came forward, Vulpesen let out a sigh, lifting his blade to block her strike. At first it seemed she hadn't learned at all, until he felt a sharp pain run through his leg, causing him to fall to his knees. Practice and experience formed into instinct, allowing him to hold his saber in place while his hand moved out to send her away with a fairly easy force push. "Much better. Always try to find a way to rid your opponent of their balance. i take it you're starting to understand."

Kay stumbled back again, this time from the Force push. Yet another skill she had yet to even attempt. She approached him and offered her hand to help him up. "Sorry if I hurt you. I think that I just got lucky there. Is that the goal that I should have in every fight? To knock my opponent off balance?" If it was that simple, then she might be able to remember it and perhaps not overthink every move.

He took her hand and rose to his feet, letting out a small laugh. "Nope. The goal of every fight is to put the pointy end in the other person. But considering you're not the size of a tank, and you haven't yet learned to dance around blows, putting your opponent off balance is a great way of doing that."

"Stick them with the pointy end. Got it." She smirked. Such a thing was obvious, but she hadn't killed anyone yet and didn't plan on starting anytime soon. Kay preferred to knock them out instead and running before they could come to.

She got into her stance again, keeping a light yet firm grip on her saber. "Shall we try again?"

Enjoying her eagerness to get back into practice he swirled his saber and adopted a slightly different stance, this one showing only his side while one hand held the saber downward, one of the beginning makashi stances. "One more thing. Whenever you have an advantage. Push it. Time for your opponent to recover is time for him to learn from his mistakes."

She nodded, noticing the different stance and wondering how she was going to handle that one. "Well whenever I have to fight, I don't hold my hand out for them in the middle of it."

Kay swung her saber down to meet his, but as he would bring his up to counter, she would flick her wrist and bring about her saber underneath towards his leg.

Vulpesen smirked at her words and brought his blade to meet hers, only to find it sweeping at her side. Flicking his wrist and adjusting his arm, he brought his saber to point downwards at his side, catching [member="Lady Kay"]'s blade near the tip. "Very good." As he spoke, he lurched forward, his current side ways position making it easy for him to slam his shoulder into her. As she would likely find herself backing away, he would take the time to make a quick sweep to her her side.

She took little notice of the praise, her mind too busy calculating on possible courses of action. She had watched her late husband fight a number of times and he had a few signature moves that she might be able to execute. But first she had to gain a proper advantage.

Vulpesen slamming into her caught Kay off guard and she stumbled back, keeping her blade in front of her as she moved. It was a good thing that she did that for it gave her the time to catch his blade from the inside with her own as he swung it to her side. Given that she had a bit of an advantage now, she brought her saber in a downward arc from his hip towards his knee.

Vulpesen grinned as she quickly adapted. For a diplomat, she did picked u fighting rather well. Still, he wasn't without his own tricks and natural agility. Allowing his feet to spring him into the air, he would kick out at her chest, his body horizontal in the air while his saber flung down to defend him. Assuming she would be pushed back, he would start to speak. "And tell me, do you have any training in the force? If so, how much?"

If he didn't have his saber when he had leaped into the air and kicked, she would've grabbed his foot and prevented him from having a balanced landing. But he did have his saber, and so she stumbled back, bringing her blade up in front of her to defend herself.

"I had some training, mostly in healing, however. I know a small amount of bringing objects to me, but can only do it from a short distance. I would have learned more had my training not been cut short. And as of the past six years I have kept my Force use to a minimum. I didn't want to risk being detected. There are many out there that despise Force users. And my current employment is forbidden to Force users."

He nodded and whirled his saber, stepping forward once more. "Then find a nice private place and practice. Niman is made to be accompanied by the force. And I doubt your employment will come in much use when a blaster is pulled and readied to fire." To demonstrate his point, Vulpesen held out his left hand, using the force to start shaking [member="Lady Kay"]. If there was one way to remove balance, it was to turn your opponent into a ragdoll while you made a quick slash at their side. Such was what Vulpesen did. To be precise, he aimed for the left side.

Find a private place to practice? Is there such a thing? Most likely there wasn't as she had yet to find one. Even here she couldn't practice fighting by herself and save any embarrassment. Spies were everywhere thanks to the bounty on her head, relaying her whereabouts and activity to her enemies. That wasn't to say that he was one of them, but it was proof positive that she was never alone anymore. Kay had just started to learn to accept it and get used to it.

As Vulpesen used the Force to shake her, Kay gasped. No one had ever done that to her before and she tried to remain steady and move with it, but that didn't work. When his saber moved towards her she tried to catch it, but her strength wasn't there. She merely just caught hus blade with her own, the movements causing her saber to run along side his in a not so balanced or steady motion. All that Kay could do was wait for the shaking to stop and almost flailing her lightsaber around.

Vulpesen smiled and swirled his saber around hers, catching it in a bind as they were up close. If all went well, the weapon would be flung into the air, soon going on its way to clatter against the ground. "Other than that, most things things will simply come with time and practice. Unless of course, there is something else you'd like to learn from me."

She tried to grasp her saber in mid air as it flew. But instead it just bounced on the ground away from them. Kay walked over to it and picked it up, shutting it down as she made her way over to him again. "A couple of things, actually. One that I know that you can do, the other I'm not so sure of. I'd like to learn how to push others away with the Force and if possible, learn to hide myself from the detection of other Force users. I could pay you for these lessons, of course." To not suggest compensation would be rude, after all.

Vulpesen smiled and walked over to lean against a nearby pillar. "I can do both. As for payment, I simply ask that you keep this in mind. Never know when I'll need a favor." He passed her a grin. After all, he was by definition a king. He had no need for gold when he hand an entire economy to toy with. Two in fact when you took into account that he also led the Vitae Alliance.

Kay nodded as she walked over to her satchel and slipped her lightsaber inside. She kept her fingertips on it for a few seconds as she had hoped that her late husband wasn't laughing at her efforts to learn how to fight, but instead was proud.

"Yes sir. I've come to learn lately that some prefer favours over credits these days. But I only accept them with those that I think are honourable, respectful, and so far you have shown me that." She was also a bit too trusting, but that comes from being hopeful that everyone would do the right thing by her.
