"I'm not short. You're just freakishly tall."

She playfully pouted, but her plans hadn't changed at all. Their kiss broke and she tugged him along, eager for some quality time alone with her husband. But Kahlil was never one to let her take the reigns. He closed the distance even before they reached the bedroom, and effortlessly lifted her up into his arms. She was thrown over his shoulder, and brought into the room, giggling and squirming.

It wasnt enough.

"Hmnm, alright. I have some other plans for you now, anyway." She bit her lower lip and waited for him to reach the bed.

...

As morning sunshine crept into room, Valery groaned and rolled onto her side, facing away from the windows. Her hair was a complete mess and she was still tired and sore from last night - she didn't even want to think about getting up.

Even as something stirred in the distance.

A trail of smoke rose into the sky from the town nearby.

Kahlil himself did not stir. Usually he would be up and cooking, but not this morning. No, he stayed laid with his wife, tangled with her in the sheets with a faint and warm smile on his face. Completely unconscious at that. He'd been away for too long, far too long, to not enjoy just spending a little time laying with his beloved. When he did finally stir, he did so barely, opening an eye briefly to look at Valery and have his smile brighten that much more.

"Good morning, love."

Wrapped up in his arms and entirely entangled, Valery still groaned and refused to wake up. The sun was shining brightly into their room, forcing her from her slumber, but she was far too comfortable. It had felt like weeks since she last woke up in her husband's arms, and there was nothing she loved more in the morning.

Why couldn't this just last forever

"Hnnngh," Valery mumbled in response. But despite her exhaustion, she turned her head and gave him a very long kiss against the cheek.

"Do I have to get up?"

"Mmmmno."

Kahlil smiled at the kiss, idly pulling Valery closer into his embrace. Not this time. There was nothing that was going to pull him away from his wife short of their children bursting through the door to ask for breakfast or Niv Hani was on fire. He expected the prior, but the later certainly wasn't going to happen, right? He sighed happily, idly planting his own kisses on her cheek, neck, just humming happy and content.

"Maybe we just take the day. I can call a sitter real quick."

She loved it when he was this cuddly. He pulled her closer, wrapped himself around her and there was no desire to get out of bed anymore. In a feat of great flexibility, Valery even stretched one leg out of the sheets, hooked her toes around the curtains, and pulled on them to better keep out the sunlight.

They were going to take their time waking up, but not before some more snuggling in the dark.

Well, that and a little more, it seemed. When he kissed her neck and mentioned a babysitter, Valery smirked and bit her lower lip.

"Hmmm, that's not a bad idea. A day of just you and I again..." She leaned in closer and gently nibbled on his ear lobe to tease him, before pulling back to whisper into his ear, "I might have some ideas."

At this point, sirens in the distance were loud enough for the Nobles to hear, but Valery wrote it off as something they didn't need to handle, and pulled her husband back into a kiss.

"Mmmm? Plans? I like plans. Anything fun or..?"

He flashed a grin, knowing full well what kind of fun he was going to suggest at least. He rolled over to hold her close again, laughing and smiling as he did. Did he hear what was going on? Maybe, but, really, he didn't care. He wasn't Niv Hani's savior or guardian. That wasn't his purpose, or his intention. He would help them, always, but he wasn't looking to be their god or hero.

She probably heard the sirens and alarms out there as well, but chose to ignore them. That's what they had law enforcement and firefighters for, right? No, she wasn't going to jump into action every single time there was a problem. She had much better plans right now, and all of them involved a very lovely husband.

"Something very fun," Valery purred, as she entangled her legs around his. Then, with a grin spread across her lips, she used all of her strength to flip him onto his back. She sat on top of him, her hands on his chest to keep him down, and gave him quite the smug look.

But also a warning - she wasn't going to allow him to flip her back down.

"Just let me take care of you first." She leaned in much closer, kissed him on the lips, and began to shift her way down.

...
Bang, bang, bang.

Breathless and sore, Valery stared at the ceiling while she laid beside her husband. She didn't move or even stir, not until the same banging on the bedroom door continued.

"Mommy! Daddy!"

Bang, bang, bang.

Surprisingly, it was Aurra. She was never this loud and eager to get their attention, so Valery knew something was up. She finally stirred and rolled over, groaning against the pain, "Babe, where did you leave my shirt..." From the edge of the bed, she fished around with her hand, looking for either a bra or shirt to make herself presentable enough.

Bang, bang, bang.

Kahlil was the one to stir then at the banging on the door. He yawned and stretched, idly pulling on clothing as he did finally slip from his bed and his wife. The triplets were the only thing that would get him out now. "Trust your instincts. You'll find it. I dunno where I threw it though." He opened the door, yawning again as he glanced down to Aurra and bit back a chuckle.

"What's wrong, my little rainbow?"

Valery groaned, grumbled and muttered some kind of complaint under her breath about him tossing around her clothes. He could have just neatly put them aside. Though, she knew that wasn't quite as fun, so perhaps forgiveness was warranted. Either way, she wrapped the sheets around herself and stood up to go searching for her clothes.

Meanwhile, Kahlil opened the door to see little Aurra standing in front of him. She held her new plush ragdoll firmly against her chest and looked up at her father first. Then at her Mom, covered in bed sheets and with messy hair. Aurra thought nothing of it and smiled.

Valery loved the innocent mind of a child.

"Good morning, Daddy," she began with a cute little smile.

"People are angry outside."

M977SXg.png

Kahlil did his best not to laugh at his poor wife in her moment of weakness and instead kept his gaze on Aurra instead. He tilted his head though, blinking. Angry people? His eyes narrowed after a moment as he patted the top of her head and stepped past. Angry outside his home to the point Aurra noticed? His expression stilled as he stepped past his daughter to head downstairs to the front door.

Whatever the problem, to bring anger here? No. He wasn't okay with that.

It was a good thing he didn't laugh. From behind, he likely felt her death glare already, so any comment or even the faintest chuckle would have meant an all-out attack. Even in front of Aurra. The triplets, just like the other Nobles, were all used to their parents and their occasional wrestling matches.

She had yet to win one without low blows, but she'd still fight him anytime.

"Come here, Aurra." While Kahlil already walked down, his hair still messy and his beard not properly trimmed, Valery picked up the little blonde and carried her down in her arms. She wasn't wearing bed sheets anymore, but just a T-shirt and some comfortable shorts.

Outside the house, a group of people had gathered with signs. They contained various messages, but all of them were about the same thing. A call for action — a demand for the Epicanthix to get involved in the war.

Others stood opposed, waving signs that proposed the opposite. After losing Panatha and so many of their people, they didn't not want to enter another conflict.

"Love, they're everywhere on the news, too." Valery swayed Aurra in her arms and looked at her husband with a worried frown. Was he going to talk to them? They seemed rather aggressive and on edge.

M977SXg.png

"That doesn't explain why they're here, though."

Nor would it ever. Kahlil didn't run Niv Hani, or the Epicanthix in general. He frowned as he stepped outside, glanced about the gathering. He stood neutrally, though his arms dd start to cross over his chest as a subtle annoyance crept into the back of his mind.

"You'd best have a very good reason for coming to my home of all places to bother my family."

"I think I know why they're here." The Nobles didn't run Niv Hani and didn't rule the Epicanthix, but everybody on the planet knew of them, at the very least. Of their exploits as Jedi, their ability to lead, and the impact they could have on any conflict. Draw the Nobles to your side, and the chances of being successful skyrocket.

Valery just knew that Kahlil didn't want them here for that reason.

"We're here because you need to make a choice!" One of Epicanthix men practically demanded. He was clearly in favor of a more aggressive stance with all the threats in the Galaxy, and he wanted the Nobles on his side. "Adonis won't lead us to take down those who threaten our homes. But we know you can."

Valery stepped closer but remained behind her husband to hide her morning appearance. She just subtly touched the side of his hip, hoping to keep him calm.

M977SXg.png

"Oh, I know how to lead. I know all of our people's history in warfare, I know how we fight best. I know very well how to lead all of you into war. But you come to my home to shout at me, my family, not even a day after I finally come home? You're so damn impatient to kill that you can't give my family a day of peace?" No, Kahlil wasn't impressed. He pinched his brow before he lowered his hand and turned from the group.

"Fucking bringing a protest to my home like this. A mob. You could've reached out in so many different ways. Go home. We'll talk about this when you're not a mob."

Valery quietly looked at her husband, whose anger was so tangible that it frightened both sides of the protests. They looked at each other, some confused, others careful, and they weren't sure what to say. Not until the very man who had addressed him in the first place spoke up again.

"We did not mean to disturb you, but this is important for all of our people," he insisted.

Knowing that his persistence would only make things worse, Valery stepped forward and wrapped herself around her husband's arm while he turned away. "It's too early for this, go protest somewhere else and leave us be for now." She looked at Kahlil and wanted to tug him inside to talk alone.

But she wasn't going to stop him if he had more to say.

M977SXg.png

"There is no battle right now, or I wouldn't even be here. Next time, at least give me a damn day first."

Kahlil didn't look back to them, instead just ushering Valery back inside. It was something important for them to talk about, but not now. He smiled to her, his wife, as he did head inside. Right now, it was time for family, not this. Likely later that evening he'd handle it, but not now, and certainly not like this.

The moment the door shut behind him, Valery closed the distance and wrapped her arms around his torso. No easy feat with the size difference between them, but she felt like he needed the hug. These protests had disrupted a peaceful morning meant to be spent with family. Hell, he had wanted to call a babysitter and spend some time with his wife.

When was the last time it had been just the two of them?

There was a soft, barely audible, and unsatisfied little groan she mumbled into his chest when she realized just how long it had been. Her grip on him weakened and she couldn't help but frown.

"This should have been your day," she said softly, trying her best not to sound too somber. He was already angry enough with those people. "We wanted to welcome you back and I was looking forward to having some time alone with you." Her chin began to rise, so she could look him in the eyes.

"Do you still want to make it a fun day? And with or without a babysitter?" she asked with a faint little smile.

M977SXg.png

"Our day, not mine." It was never meant to be just his day, after all. He let out a sigh before giving her a tired smile. He knew this day would come, eventually. The Epicanthix were warriors. He just, didn't expect them to come in protest to his home of all places. He'd figure it out, though. They would. Him and his wife. "We'll make it a fun day, together. With the kids. I can't ignore their desires for long, I shouldn't. But today, I just- want us."
