The idea of a camping trip wasn't exactly what Jonyna had expected to be doing this week, but she wouldn't pass it up, and probably wouldn't admit how much she needed it. Getting her thoughts away from fighting, away from the worries of being on the Council, and while she wouldn't tell Jenn Kryze Jenn Kryze this, away from worrying about her new relationship. As much as she loved her new Lyrana, some space every once and a while was nice.

Ukatis.

That was where she had decided to bring them. Not because it was anywhere special, but just because it was...peaceful. Within the borders of the GA, in a place away from the fighting. Safe, calm, and nice.

The fields just outside the forest, away from the towns or cities, it was a nice little getaway.

"Alright, I'm setting up the tent. Aris, there's a cooking kit in my bag. Can you and Braze set that up? It's got a pot and a set of grills. Just get a campfire going and we should be good."

She paused, looking over to Jasper, as she pulled out a tent set from her rather overpacked ruck. "...ya know, I never really got the chance to talk much to you back when you were on the Council. How's life outside of the Core doing for ya?"

Get the campfire going?

Aris gave a simple nod to his Master, even a little smile. Cooking wasn't something he was the best at, but he certainly could get a fire going. He started to set up the fire pit as Cinder, the flaming bird on his shoulder, watched intently. They knew what was about to happen. Fire. A big fire. They loved fire. He glanced up to Jonyna and Jasper, smiling just a bit as he listened.

Camping would be good. Hopefully. Should be good.

"I got you!" Braze chirped, moving quickly to gather all the rocks he could find. He plucked them up with ease, bringing them over to where Aris was setting up the tinder. Carefully, he lined the outside of the pit with the stones, using telekinesis to save a bit of time. Each small rock was neatly placed, stacked atop one another to form a tidy little perimeter.

"This reminds me of when Jasper Kai'el and I got stuck during the Celestial Convergence. The skies were amazing," Braze said, his hands moving deftly as he arranged the stones.

He perked up at the sight of a firebird, his curiosity immediately piqued. "Where'd you find that little friend, Aris?" he asked with genuine interest, his fascination with animals shining through.

Ukatis.

The last time Jasper had been here he was going hand-to-hand with Domina Prime Domina Prime , and before that he was breaking Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania out of her forced imprisonment. Needless to say he hadn't had great experiences the last few times he had been here, so it was nice to actually get the opportunity to enjoy the good parts of the planet. He didn't want to have a solely negative view of his sister-in-arms home. Cora would certainly prefer it that way.

"...ya know, I never really got the chance to talk much to you back when you were on the Council. How's life outside of the Core doing for ya?"

"Busy," Jasper shrugged, "But that's just how it goes. I don't imagine that's something that's ever going to change. I'm doing my best to try to keep myself grounded though. My partner and adopted daughter reterned from a stent of time away, so I've managed a bit more family time... Well, as much as I can..."

Marissa Shoda Marissa Shoda was always a bright light in his life, even if she was rough around the edges. That was enough to keep him grounded, as well as his responsibilities towards Braze and Phy Phy .

" Tirin Raene Tirin Raene actually reached out to me about teaching at a new academy," he added. "They want me to be Battlemaster... I'm thinking about taking the position."

"This reminds me of when Jasper Kai'el and I got stuck during the Celestial Convergence. The skies were amazing,"

"No little fox things, fortunately," Jasper chuckled.

Jasper was quick to put up his own tent. It was simple, composed of dark green canvas and folding joints that locked themselves into place with minimal effort. All designed by himself, of course, created for this trip over the span of a week. Using his mechanical arm with no hammer, he drove the tent stakes in one by one.

"Force, I know that feeling. I spent so long dealing idealizing about becoming a council member, now that I am one, I barely get a moment to myself. You know any tips or tricks to deal with it? Any secret hideaways in the Temple that I should know about?" Jonyna chuckled, looking over to Braze and Aris.

"You guys bring any food? I'm not opposed to hunting my own if we need to."

Jonyna's tent was...modest. She seemed to be using the Force to drive the stakes, and the cloth wasn't anything special. Jonyna wasn't expecting it to rain, so Jonyna had packed light.

And even if it did rain, she had the ability to change that...

"In a tree. He was alone, so, Master Si suggested I bring him home."

"Home. Home."

Cinder repeated the words as Aris continue to bare hand split the firewood. One by one he'd get the pit all ready to light, but it was the bird that set it aflame. It perched on the wood, flaring up to set the whole thing ablaze in an instant, with the flaming bird still inside. It flew up a moment later, seeming to float and dance around the new fire as Aris got comfortable next to it.

"We could go hunting. I'm not against it."

Braze winced as the dust from the wood scattered off the logs. His gaze shifted to the bird, seemingly entranced by the fire crackling to life beside it.

"I, uh... don't really enjoy hunting," Braze admitted, "but I don't mind fishing. I don't have the same attachment to scaled sea creatures as I do to cute, fluffy critters." He offered a small smile in reply. "Those little fox things were pretty funny, if I remember right," Braze added, recalling how they had practically gnawed on Jasper's boots and generally caused trouble.

"What's his name?" he asked Aris, glancing again at the beautiful bird, finding it hard to look away.

"You guys bring any food? I'm not opposed to hunting my own if we need to."

"Forget hunting," Jasper remarked. "I got something better in mind."

Braze didn't like hunting much anyways, as he stated. Jasper wasn't really a hunter either. He was an inventor. That meant that he lived off of a finely cultivated grease and protein diet: Pizza. Of course, that meant he had prepared to cook a pizza out in the middle of nowhere. He went to the nearby Lonestar-1 and opened up a storage compartment on the side, retrieving a large grated tray which resembled an oven tray, tall thin legs on all for corners. He set it over the fire at a comfortable height before popping open the ice-chest he had brought along, removing a premade pizza from within. He removed it from it's packaging and set it down on the tray above the fire, set at the perfect distance for the flames to comfortably lick the sides but not engulf it.

"And there's dinner," he stated. "In like a half an hour, anyways."

It would take a while.

Pizza.

Of course.

Jonyna couldn't help but laugh. "Not my usual style, but I'll take it. Given the arm, I guess I should've figured you were an inventor. You would've gotten along great with my Ex." She said as she sat down in front of the fire. "So tell us, what you two been up to since leaving the NJO? How's the TAC going? I haven't been back to Hurrikane since I gave you guys that first shipment from Si Tech. Haven't had the chance."

No hunting..?

Aris kept a very neutral expression, but those who knew him? He was pouting. He actually liked to hunt. To get his food for himself, to make sure no parts were wasted, it was ingrained into him as an Epicanthix. To his surprise, though, Jasper.. Brought out a frozen pizza. The boy just stared blankly. He hadn't allotted the calories for a pizza today, having expected to actually hunt for his food.

After a moment, he sort of just, say down, chuckling.

"What's his name?"

"Cinder."

"That's a... fitting name," Braze remarked, offering a slight smile. He glanced back at Jasper with a sigh. He looked back at Aris, "Want to try foraging for something to add to the... pizza?" He paused, considering. "Maybe we could find some crayfish or berries." He shook his head gently. " I dunno it's okay. I feel like maybe our efforts don't really matter. " he offered to Jonyna.

" I dunno it's okay. I feel like maybe our efforts don't really matter. "

"Oh."

Jasper frowned, letting out a sigh.

"Yeah, I guess that's fair," he shrugged. "It all seems pretty stacked against us out there. By now there probably isn't much left. Can't do much without the hands to get things done. But, I won't let that keep me down. There's still plenty to do, even if we're not equipped enough for that yet."

It wasn't really something he was used to. Jasper typically had the Galactic Alliance behind him when he surged into battle. Starting things up on his own was just not something he was experienced enough for just yet.

"It doesn't matter, we're here to clear our heads," Jasper stated. "Shouldn't get all gloomy. It'll sour the mood."

"Hey, don't let it keep you down. Back when I was fighting the Empire, I had six guys at my back and a bunch of junk we threw together. It's not about the big wins when you're like that, it's about the small victories. Sabotaging an Imperial Base, Overthrowing a local government, taking down patrols. Stuff like that adds up over time." She offered with a smile. "I don't know if things will get better for you two, but never stop fighting. That's how they win."

Braze smiled and nodded at Jonyna before turning back to Aris. "Mushrooms would be good to add on a pizza, maybe even some crayfish if we're extra lucky. I brought my Opinel, so we can do that if you want," Braze assured.

He padded off towards the perimeter of their encampment, taking a cursory glance around. "I think I see some giant puffballs over that way, up on that hill. Maybe a good place to start," he suggested. "Have you ever been mushroom foraging before?" Braze asked, as he took out a strange, curved knife and offered it to Aris.

"Mushrooms would be good to add on a pizza, maybe even some crayfish if we're extra lucky. I brought my Opinel, so we can do that if you want,"

"There's space for toppings," Jasper added, "I'll sit this one out... that camp chair over there is looking pretty comfy."

Jasper promptly sat himself down, letting out a sharp exhale before sinking into the chair. He had been standing for way too long. It was upsetting, really, that he was as sore as he was. It was just more ammunition for Braze to call him old. Oh well.

Sitting was nice at least.

"Y'all have fun," he insisted, pulling a bottle of soda to his hand with the Force from a nearby cooler and cracking it open. "I'll be here."

"I think I'll stay here as well. I hunt enough at home, I came to relax. Though...Aris, see if there's a river nearby. I'd kill for a good fishing spot right now." Jonyna smiled. "How's that sound Jasper? A good day on the river, chatting it up while we catch some fish to put on our pizzas?"

Steak and fish were by far Jonyna's favorite foods, but she had grown to enough the simple Coruscanti foods of the world she now was forced to spend the most time on by far.

xiqfVVX.png

Aris just causally pointed off in the distance, glancing back to Jonyna. "About a click that way there's a rushing sound. Like a river. Should be good for fish, doesn't sound like a small stream." Yes, he could absolutely pick out those sounds from that distance. His gaze turned to Braze as he nodded once. "Niv Hani is mostly forest and wilds still. Dad brings me hunting and foraging with him a lot. It's customary for the Epicanthix. Fighting, hunting, and art. If you saw some puffballs those should work nice. I think. I'm not sure with the mushrooms of this world."

"Puffballs are pretty great," Braze said with a light smile, "Don't worry—I've been adding all sorts of useful information about edible plants and fungi to my Compass Ring." He showed Aris the ring briefly, letting him glimpse the intricate device.

"River could be a great place to start poking around," he added thoughtfully. "Might even find some nice fish or crab-like critters to catch." Braze turned to Aris, "You wanna lead the way, since you can hear where it's coming from?" he suggested.
