Strengths:
- Unorthodox - Ramming, typically-speaking, is a maneuver deployed out of desperation. Very seldom is it featured within a fleet composition; and as such the Urakto may catch many a fleeter by surprise.
- Survivability - Unlike the ramships of old, every effort has been made for the Urakto to survive impact with another vessel; from tekonite for kinetic absorption to reduncdant intertial dampeners to keep the vessel from rattling apart.
- One Punch - Upon impact, the Urakto's ram is designed to be destroyed in the process. As such, the vessel can only assault an enemy ship onetime before requiring repairs/refit.
- EMP - Due to the turbulent nature of the vessel, the Urakto is almost exclusively crewed by droids. As such, Electromagnetic Warefare is excessively effective versus this class of vessel.
At a glance, the Urakto-type Ramship is as unorthodox as the man it was named for. In naval combat, ramming is typically a last resort type of maneuver...but Warmaster Isley Verd has now attempted to feature it. His efforts have created a rather rugged ship characterized by a meticulously-layered ram. This ram is designed to be destroyed upon impact, but is also constructed in such a manner that replacement is an option...assuming the vessel survives the encounter. How the Urakto "works", compared to other ramships, begins at the scene of the crash.
Upon impact, an enemy vessel is exposed to an exceptional number of threats simultaneously. Shields at the impact site are immediately assaulted by a high-yield, proton charge that makes up the "crest" of the ram. (Standard, military-grade shields typically weaken when exposed to this level of explosive in a singular area.) Following this explosion, the ram's Durasteel shell makes impact with the enemy hull; relying upon the current momentum of the vessel to deal maximum damage. This assault is bolstered by a combination of shockwave-generator rods and repulsors which work in concert to shred through the enemy hull.
Of course, the impact itself historically results in excessive damage to the ramship itself and crew; and as such measures were taken to drastically increase survivability. First and foremost, the final "layer" of the ram consists of pure tekonite: a substance famed for the absorption and reduction of kinetic damage. While the ram will undoubtedly be destroyed during the impact, this measure allows for the vessel to survive the crash. Furthermore, the vessel itself has been outfitted with quadruple-redundant, inertial dampeners and condensed matter composite, thereby allowing it (and its crew) to weather the excessive forces of the impact.
However, while these measures increase the survivability immensely, there are other high risk factors to consider. Chief amongst these is the reality that surviving the impact does not mean that the victim (or its support craft for that matter) stops shooting. Second, repairing and refitting a ramship post-impact is not an easy, nor cheap, endeavor. Third, the nature of the ramship is such that it does not possess any other offensive tools. Only shields and the most basic of defense guns. Lastly, the vessel is almost exclusively staffed by automatons – and as such electromagnetic assaults are all the more potent.
Put simply, the Urakto-type Ramship was purely designed to reach its target and deliver one Hell of a blow.
