Hi Ben!

The timeline takes place a little over 800 years after the events of The Clone Wars, meaning that all of the characters from Canon are since deceased. Some players however RP their character as having been alive during that time, and frozen in cryo-stasis until recent. (However still barring Canon characters). We use both Disney Canon & EU here, so you're pretty free to pick and choose what you'd like to do and what you'd like for your character.

As far as RP goes, you can choose the open approach, by starting a thread in the Open Roleplay section and labeling it with the topic prefix "Public". Dominions/Invasions are restricted to campaigns setup by faction leaders, so don't worry much about that for now. Alternatively, you can setup a Private Roleplay with a select few members if you wish. If factions like the Sith Empire, or The Republic, Mandalorians, or other player created factions interest you, you can see them here
