Vortex of Death

Shapochka had nothing more to ask, either, and therefore shook her head in unison with the majority of the present company. Details would be worked out by the actual scientists. She only had one comment of wisdom--if one could consider her wise. It depended upon perspective, perhaps. "Just be sure that it is not using with too much reliance, yes. Every battle is not with the Vong."

“Not all enemies will be the Vong or the Sith…but at this moment they are the clear and present threat. Let us also not forget that this weapon does well or should do so anyway, against all manner of enemies.”

“However, please come this way. I have a surprise for you all.”

Since it was incredibly risky for virtually all the Republic high command to go somewhere they went on a corvette escorted by several wings of fighters. However, there was no threat, this otherwise lifeless system was not even on most charts.

What waited for them around the orbit on the fourth planet’s moon was a small and ugly ship. However, it featured a giant cannon almost half its own length. It was a Vortex cannon…a prototype anyway.

“I figured the best way for us to appreciate it would be to show you it. This moon is completely deserted, fear not.”

He went to a commlink and spoke a few words. The massive cannon aimed at the moon’s unusually pitted surface and fired. Space was silent, but the flash was intense as it blazed. Soon the thin atmosphere of the moon blazed as this artificial meteor roared in and impacted the surface. A large crater was left.

“Naturally this will not be used for orbital bombardments, but its potential is suggestive. I have also organised for a patched up transport otherwise going to the scrappers to be a target if you wish to see a naval target.”

Commodore Quee glanced around the viewport, taking into account the various surroundings. The revelation that there was indeed a prototype ready to conduct firing made him curious. He prepared to watch the initial firing, but before he realized it, it was finished. Looking at the crater, Gir was certain that the weapon's power lived up to potential they had discussed only hours ago. Judging by the crater's diameter and depth, he was certain that the raw power it had just demonstrated would be effective against all but the most heavily defended starships. Even then, he was certain that repeated hits from such a weapon would likely break down even those defenses.

Gir was satisfied with the demonstration, but he would wait and see if anyone else wanted a further demonstration.

Kayleigh watched the demonstration in gleeful bliss. "Very impressive, Admiral! I'm surprised you were able to keep this under wraps even from myself. Excellent work and engineers under your belt!"

The blonde admiral smiled and patted her mentor on the shoulder. "You truly are the best, Stahlmann. Let's proceed onward. What more have you to show I wonder?"

The Admiral smiled slightly.
“Well, there’s no more of a show today, I fear. However, since there’s nothing more, I will begin putting this and the ship into full production.

May the Force be with us all.”
