NPC dat romance brah. Then you get to pick everything from the play-by to the personality. That's gets you a companion for your urgent timeline while'st still keeping you in the game OOC. It also builds your romance writing reputation and teaches your character what they like and dislike in a partner IC. Don't let anybody tell you NPC romance ain't a big win-win. It may be the Little League, sure? But it can really help your game for when the real thing happens.
The very first StarWars character went through 3 NPC romances before I was able to really draw other writers into fluid and easy PC relationships. I proved to the community, (and to myself,) that I could touch upon teenage angst, youthful passion, clever dating, dramatic shouting, heartfelt rekindling, and even the elusive tasteful-fade-to-awesome.
