Wake up [Corvus Raaf]

Kana nodded and cleared her mind. For a woman in a pickle jar she was still very insistent on learning and teaching. Somethings will never change it would seem, not even for pickles with fractured collarbones.

She prepared herself for anything, how bad could this be?

Corvus hadn't initially planned on going into the defensive nature of telepathy, at least not right away - but she had nothing better to do! However, Kana had shown enough talent that he felt it was prudent to move on to this.

'Once I am confident you can defend yourself adequately, there are a number of routes we can take.'

'But first I'm going to attempt to enter your mind and I want you to try and stop me. There are a number of ways to do this.' The tone of her thoughts changed,to reflect the importance of this particular lesson.

'There are many ways you can do this and you will find the one that works best for you. It took me a few attempts to get to the method that suited me best. Evasion is one way and can either be making the presence of your mind really small - so it is difficult to find. Like a mental game of cat and mouse.'

'A variation is to simply be evasive, moving or moulding your mind in a way that it is impossible to enter. Another is to blockade your mind so that it can't be breached. And finally you can counter-attack - present such an offensive threat that the other person has to focus solely on defending.'

Kian is a natural counter-attacker. I suspect it is easiest of you are a natural telepath or well-practised.'

Corvus slowly stretched her consciousness, her mind outward toward Kana's. 'Now prepare to evade...' Corvus stretched further toward Kana. She would wait until she sensed her friend was ready before striking...and then she would unleash a number of attacks on her. It wasn't about winning, but she wanted her friend to experience what it would be like to be attacked by someone who wasn't pulling punches. But she would hold back, but only just.

Kana was ready, or so she thought. Being attacked was like getting sporadic migraines. It was like getting punched in the brain or pinched. Though not directly painful it could still be uncomfortable. Unsure what ‘evade the attacks’ even meant Kana took a few hits before she tried to make sense of it all.

She began thinking of things, anything else just regular occurences during her everyday routine. Force barriers and how she admired them, Makashi and how the form was perfect for her. She wasn’t even evading at this point as much as trying to have Corvus receive all her junk data. Granted, occasionally the pain would come back but not as much of it.

‘I found these-ow!-cool-ow!-ow!-ow!-ow!-ow! Alright I get it! No telepathy during-ow!-class!’

Kana took the hint, she was not doing it right. Trying to adjust her approach she tried to imagine her mind as a piece of silky fabric. Corvus would try to reach out for it but every time she did Kana would try to pull it away from in between her fingers. It worked some but just like any real fabric it eventually started to get torn and threads would pop out.

Focus got hard and the dark world she had encased herself in was getting darker. Kana was falling asleep!

Corvus eased back. Kana was trying different options that was clear but she was also very, very tired. And that was not conducive to effective training. So Corvus gently retreated from Kana's mind - whilst at the same time sending a wave of calm into her friend's body through the Force.

She could sleep for now, for tomorrow it will start all over again!

Kana could felt it as Corvus left her mind. The calm and… all… the things… that…

Exhaustion got the better of her and she collapsed to the ground in a ungraceful position.

Time would come to pass, how much time that was she did not know. What Kana did know was that falling asleep on the floor was not a good idea. Her eyes would slowly open to face the bright lights emanating from the bacta tank. Her entire body was aching from the awkward position and her cheek was wet. On closer inspection there was a small pool of water right around where her head had been. Either she had been drunk and passed out or she had simply passed out both worked fine with her.

Rising up from the floor her head was spinning and her stomach growling. How long had she been out? Kana looked at Corvus. At least she was still where Kana had last seen her. Which was good in a sense but horrible nonetheless. Rubbing her eyes she had to go find something to eat. Anything, she was starving. But first the cockpit to check the ETA.

“I’m too young to feel this old.” Kana muttered to herself. “Way too young.”

Kana made her way through the ship like a rigid old person. With calm yet weak footsteps she staggered toward the cockpit. She rubbed her eyes and looked out the window. The blue streaks of lightning across the windows was a dead giveaway that they had in fact not-

The view turned back to normal, in front of Kana was a planet. No wait, not just any planet, it was Ossus! What a lucky coincidence! Still, she was in no state to fly much less land this thing until she got herself something to eat. With equally staggered movement she reached what looked like a fridge. She popped it open and to her surprise found some sort of cake or something. It looked quite tasty and Kana found herself instinctively reaching for it.

“What’s a ‘risscatt’?” Kana asked herself as she read the small note on it. “I really shouldn’t...”

But she did. Taking a piece of the rhyscate she proceeded to devour it. It tasted so incredibly good and the immediate little shot of energy that it provided was enough for her to proceed and stuff her face with the piece she cut. Looking over at the rest of the cake she had to stop herself. Corvus liked these things and the reason why was obvious. If she left the part of it that was not eaten yet then she had no right to complain right? Right.

Returning to the tank once more Kana took a seat in front of her friend and reached out to her in an apology.

‘I was eating. Sorry, that ryyskate thing was sooo good. How are you?’

Not that Kana had actually eaten all of it. What she really wanted was the reaction from Corvus.

‘We’ve reached Ossus but I figured we’ll finish this first.’

Corvus felt Kana touching her mind lightly. Connecting to the Force, she was able to join her friend telepathically. Gently and slowly but as had happened yesterday (or at least what Corvus perceived to be yesterday) she came close to her mind.

'Good morning, or whatever time of the day it is. Did you mention ryshcate? I have some saved for a special occasion here on board. It was going to be for you, to celebrate you becoming a Knight - but I'm no good at keeping surprises. What a coincidence, eh?'

'Are you ready to defend against me now? I sensed you tried different approaches. That's fine - try as many as you need until you find the analogy that works for you.'

‘Well, before I went to yell at you for the last time it said 35 hours on the ETA. I spent at least 10 of them yelling at you. I think I slept a day away almost’

Kana cleared her mind and prepared to protect herself from psychic attacks once again.

‘Fire away, [member="Corvus Raaf"].’

In a repeat of the actions yesterday, Corvus stretched her consciousness, her mind outward toward Kana's. Then, without warning, Corvus attacked. For her, the mind was like a liquid and so small rivers of water stretched out and tried to enter Kana's mind - looking to find thoughts, emotions or memories that they could tap into. She was careful and held back slightly but was persistent and tenacious none the less.

[member="Kana Truden"]

‘Well, great then I guess I just sort of ruined my own birthday party. Great.”

Corvus couldn’t see the smirk but hopefully she could feel the playful nature Kana tried to attach to it. Not that she really knew how but she felt like she probably did.

As the attacks came around they felt subtle enough yet a lot easier to dodge than last time. Whether that was because Corvus held back or because Kana wasn’t running on backup fuel wasn’t really known to her but Kana would go on and pretend it was the latter.

Feeling the attacks coming Kana tried to envision her mind as a piece of dough. Corvus had after all told her to keep molding and moving her mind around. A piece of dough could do all of that. It was moved around in order to be moulded, come to think of it, it could possibly also mould. The dough that is, Kana’s mind was certainly not about to mould.

Just thinking the last sentence out loud would be enough to cause a headache but it didn’t. For some reason it just seemed to work as Kana kept trying to shuffle her mind around. Shifting and shaping it like a baguette. Granted, there was the occasional slip but when compared to the pain she had felt last time it was nothing.

‘Did I mention we’re above Ossus at this point? I could take you down there unless you want to keep going.’

[ [member="Corvus Raaf"] ]

Corvus was pleased. She didn't now what image Kana had used, but it was effective in dealing with the attack.

'Excellent. Just practice needed now - there is nothing more I can teach you. But...the lesson isn't over, regardless of how close we are to Ossus. Now I need you to try to attack me. Not violently or I could end up in this tank forever, but you need to know how it is to enter a human mind when it is trying to resist.'

Corvus prepared her mind to be attacked by Kana.

[member="Kana Truden"]

‘Now you’re just trying to stay away from that slap.’

Which at this stage would never happen. Corvus was way too active to be even remotely close to dead. Being an idiot still applied but dead or dying did not. Thinking it allowed her to sigh in relief. Corvus was going to get better and soon.

‘So what am I supposed to do? Just fill you with junk data and advertisements?’

As if Corvus’ brain was Kana’s inbox. It made sense somehow but not like if it was right, maybe she was just supposed to pinch her friend. Kind of like imagine that rather than having the dough be Kana’s mind it was Corvus’ mind. While normally a dough would be smashed to piece she had been told to be careful. Careful meant not punching but pinching.

Trying to access a part of Corvus’ mind with just a little a bit more haste than usual Kana tried to bruteforce it while still going incredibly carefully forward. The idea of attacking someone’s mind was truly below how Kana would have battled someone.

[ [member="Corvus Raaf"] ]

Corvus felt the attack. It was gentle enough but done with sufficient force to pose a real threat if it were done for real.

Corvus imaged her mind like water with a fine skin that held it together like a water bomb. So, as Kana pressed, the water receded, only to re-appear somewhere else. For every prod, the water moved somewhere it was not being pressed. But the key was that Kana was getting the hang of it. Against someone not practised in defending, she would have managed with little effort to enter their mind.

'Excellent. Again, nothing more to teach. But before class is dismissed and you can land this thing and get me out of...here...I have a few last comments. Kian's words of wisdom really. This is something you must practice. People you have connected with before you will find it easier to connect with again. Eventually we could connect between planets. Well, it's possible. But over a distance of a few klicks it would be definitely doable. The further away the less detailed - so you might just get an emotion rather than a specific thought.'

'And you don't need to enter a mind to talk to them. You can lightly touch someone's mind and say something. Less invasive but a shock if they're not expecting it though. Finally, practice with other people. If you're with people, see if you can sense any thoughts. It can be practical. If you want to know the combination to a locked door, plant a thought the door is unlocked. It's likely the memory of the digits will come to that person's conscious mind - so much easier to read.'

'But I think I should rest now. I've not stopped since you hooked me up to this thing!'

[member="Kana Truden"]

‘Sleep tight, I’ll see you when you get out of that thing.’

Kana left without further adieu and quickly made way for the ship’s controls. The Troubled Raven, now that was a better name and Kana had made it up on like two seconds. She would have to pester Corvus about it. Corellians could be tenacious, Kana could be herself.

Promptly sending a message to the academy of their arrival Kana set the ship down for reentry. They had been warned of her friend’s state and had things been different they’d most likely been warned of Kana’s as well. The ship shook for a bit as Kana managed to screw the entry just a little, the damage probably wasn’t anything too big but one could never know. It wasn’t exactly like they were going to crash this thing.

As the ship touched down Kana found herself immediately greeted by a team of jedi who proceeded to carry Corvus away toward the medical wing of the temple. Kana being Kana followed them closely and as they put her into another tank with the supervision of a healer.

She would have contacted her friend but they both knew everything was going to work out just fine. For now '[member="Corvus Raaf"]' could rest, for Kana’s slapping hand did not.
