Description:

Lacking a dedicated infantry unit the DD-S1 was simply lacking in the field. Good for securing casinos and businesses, bad for actual war. So with the Red Ravens leading the galaxy in cutting edge technology a new type of battle droid was born. The War Dog, a combat droid that could be stuck in any position on the battlefield. Whether it be sniping, heavy gunner, rifleman, or demolitions the War Dog is there to cover each and every role on the battlefield and do it better, faster, and more efficient than humans or even other less advanced droids.

The War Dog is bred for battle and their programming goes into it. They are programmed individually to not run off of a central computer in the sky, each unit runs on it's own network and does not emit a wireless signal. This means they can not be sliced unless tapped directly into. But then one might ask how do they function if they aren't given orders from a central location? Well that is an easy fix. They operate like a traditional military, each droid is given a rank programmed into them. They have everything from privates to captains in their platoons and each platoon commander is connected to command which transmits orders through standard comm links. Or through a HUD system that the platoon commander can use to instantly send orders to other droids, or the droid can vocalize orders through comm links to the units under their control. They receive maps, waypoints, and other battle field awareness through their AWV. If a platoon commander goes down the next in line automatically promotes up to platoon commander and assumes control of the unit. This is a unorthodox way to operate a droid army and yes it does cause the commanders of the droid army to lack the simplicity of pressing a few buttons and sending an army at someone, but this is a safer way to operate without fear of slicers being able to cripple an entire army running off an single network. In short they operate like a traditional army and are their own unit rather than the hive mind normal droid armies operate on.

More about their programming however. Outside of the battlefield the droids are virtually worthless, they have zero intelligence when it comes to anything else besides the current engagement or mission and often that can be a problem for them, they lack the judgment and emotions most droids are programmed with and thus whenever a moral or ethical call needs to be made in order to adapt to the mission they coldly calculate the odds and go with the most logical solution. Rather than providing aid to a enemy village they will instead burn it to the ground to ensure rebellions would be squashed unless otherwise told not to. They can adapt and overcome situations on the battlefield but in urban settings or street to street combat unless directly ordered to not shoot unarmed or civilians they will not care or be effected by civilians caught in the crossfire of engagements. The War Dog is best if only used on the battlefield, use anywhere else such as security for VIPs or buildings can and will resort to the War Dogs killing civilians or your own men if they are caught in the crossfire, they care not for hostages or anything of the sort.

how they are built. As strong as a wookie, as sharp as a tack, and as sturdy as an ox. the war dogs are built to be the key role to winning a battle. Starting from the inside out the beginning stage is of course the power core, this is pretty standard and it powers the droid for about a week before it looses power and dies. Above that is it's hydraulic engine and system and robotic limbs that power it's movements and allow it move. Each limb is about as strong as the a standard Exo-Suit that augments the strength of the unit to large proportions. Each unit becomes stronger, and capable of hitting harder and moving faster with less stress on it's robotic parts. However while the droid is somewhat EMP resistant the Exo suit is not. They can be easily disabled by an ion grenade and the droid will be forced to discard their Exo Suit.

Summarizing their faults the droids do not run on a central network, they operate much like a traditional army and require dedicated lines of communication. This means ordering the droids to do something takes longer than simply pressing a few buttons, orders must be given over lines of communication to company leaders and handed down so on and so forth. If they are cut from communication they can act on their own and still continue the fight but they are essentially just attacking targets as they see them. Or proceed on until their objective is accomplished. Their programming as well is a big lack for them, while they are great on the battlefield they are worthless for anything else, they can only be used in warzones as they will harm and sacrifice the building they are protecting if it means destroying the enemy. Their Exo suits as well are sadly not EMP proof and can cause them to revert back to the normal strength of a DD-S1. And while they are hard to kill with smaller caliber weapons and take can take a hit or two from assault rifles, they are not all too difficult to destroy. A simple thermal detonator or blaster bolt to the head with an assault rifle will put them down for good.

All and all the War Dog is great for engagements on the battlefield, and nothing else. They are the superior droids and will ensure that they are the ones who come out on top whatever the cost may take.

Looks good, relatively standard NPC fodder, but with a very long description.

How of interest is the communication between different levels voice only?

How would they receive and view situational awareness data like digital maps, locations of friendly forces?
