War Rule Reformation - Not just one. The ENTIRE Way War works

For the past few weeks, I've been seeing ALLOT of people complain about stuff like Mimban, the Black Tie Syndicate and The Mandalorian Empire. But the biggest complaint I had heard so far is about the whole ordeal of the Galactic Alliance attacking Coruscant.

And I am here to say, I fully agree with these complaints. Namely the GA invasion of Courscant.

Firstly, let me go into a rant here.:
Edited for rantiness.

How to fix this cancer:

  1. Rewrite the ENTIRE War rules and put limits on certain things. Like how many things you can build a day or something. Realistically, you CAN'T have 46996 star destoryers in less than a week. Those take AGES to build. The Death Star may of had many workers, but it costed the Empire SO MUCH money and took YEARS to build. It was being built during the Republic days, so it's obvious.
  2. LIMIT STEALTH SHIPS. They take FOREVER to build. I don't wanna see god damn 20 stealth ships completed by a week. They should take atleast two weeks.
  3. If we really are gonna go by the by day formula, establish build times and ETAS for your equipment and make sure the economy suffers from it. Seriously, having a huge army is expensive, and horrible for the economy of the faction/nation.
  4. PUNISH THOSE WHO ATTACK AND GET ISOLATED like the GA's Genius strategist said "lolz lets attack Courscant head on!" no, punish them IC for it. They will looes half or hell maybe the whole damn navy, and watch and suffer the consequences. It's war. Your idea means you can either be a hero or become the ultimate enemy of your nation.
Seriously though, this HAS to be fix. I can't stand this cancer anymore, and it's really... making me angry. As well as other people.

Just. please. For the sake of the ENTIRE SW Chaos community. FIX THIS.

Well.

This is where we run into a series of problems tied in with fleeting and ground battles which link together.

In theory we could set production limits, construction queues and supply lines. That would, inevitably, turn it into a wargame.
Now, I wouldn’t mind that at all, but that’s not why people come to SWRP.

Setting up such systems would require a lot of testing, writing and planning. It would also require the assent of the community and a desire to essentially change invasions from an RP to a war simulator. And I’ll be honest, I don’t think that’s what people want. Despite my liking of the idea in general I also think it’s a bad idea.
Why? Well, fleeting is already a niche, but making people keep track of their ships and supply lines would narrow this even further, and relying upon it for the rest of the faction to invade would lead only to frustration and disillusionment.

I can understand your frustration, but a full on campaign system is just not practical on this board. I’m willing to have my mind changed if you want to brainstorm some ideas with me, but I can’t see either staff or the members accepting something which adds more complexity to a very simple ruleset.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"] But the biggest problem is that not many people actually care. They just tend to ignore everything and go with it, even if it's suicide because they oblige by the "Well, they cant kill me because I gave the no permission to die!!! :D" excuse every time.

I am indeed more than welcome to brainstorm some ideas with you however. I just want this broken War system to be fixed. It's just... everyone thinks they have free reign on everything

If I want to play a strategy game, I'll play a strategy game. I've seen play-by-post communities that operated like you're suggesting. They wound up being niche interests. They appealed to a very small number of people who cared very strongly about everyone doing things Their Way.

This community has hundreds of people who prefer to do it another way. If your needs are so specific, there are any number of excellent forum hosting services that would suit your purposes.

Honestly on board for some forms of ideas.

Could possibly simplify stuff as best as one can. I mean production doesn't have to be a huge thing to deal with. Plus I support this since it gives factions a reason to care about companies, and makes skirmishes actually matter which is a welcome thing I'd think.

And dividing up the fleet and ground stuff seems easy.

I think the complaint about the fleet and ground stuff being connected is NOT waiting for the fleet stuff to finish. I don't think that's the idea. I think it's just they're saying people ignore the fact they actually don't just teleport onto a planet at the start.

Honestly what do people have against writing that they landed via a dropship after flying through flak, with explosions, wreckage and flames, and turbolasers bursting through the air as they hit an LZ.

I mean that's some epic stuff to put into posts people don't do much and its sad. You can create some very incredible imagery for your introduction by setting up the intensity of just arriving.

The good thing about this forum is that it offers the flexibility and options to write your own rules and run a campaign – I’ve done this before – but it’s not something which will be adopted by the majority of the board.

Having said that I have a ‘faction’ for discussion of this sort of stuff here: http://starwarsrp.net/forum/1873-the-warmongers-reborn/

If you wanted to do a campaign you’d certainly find people interested, but it would not replace the current invasion rules.

Grab all of these people that wish to see this change occur.
Set up a 'test invasion' with the rules you'd like to use.
Play it out.
???
Come back with the results.

Maybe then more people will be open to your idea.

I refer you to the storming of the beaches of Normandy, Hitler's excursion into Russia, Napoleon's excursion into Russia, Hannibal into Rome, and Cyprus the Great at Athens.

As well as the many times yelling did nothing to solve the problem......

My two cents.

Couple of things. Firstly, *points to warning point on his profile* swearing and rants get you nowhere. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. And by T-shirt I mean a report, and a reprimand. Your enthusiasm is appreciated, but I had it drilled into my skull that there are better ways to get the point across, and I'd be doing you a disservice if I didn't share the lesson. What you do with it is up to you.

Secondly, I come from a site where we had rules quite similar to the ones you described. Far from making warfare more fun, they made it a godawful mess and contributed to its downfall. This freeform shiznit might not be the best system, but it works for Chaos and that's all that really matters. Chaos's biggest problem was the toxic atmosphere that pervaded most invasions, and this new format seems to have worked wonders to combat that. The Coruscanti invasion might be the most chill I've seen in the last almost year I've been on the site. People are having fun. That's like finding a unicorn wrapped up in the Golden Fleece with a philosopher's stone for a horn.

As far as the particulars about strategy and supply lines go, well, this ain't the American Civil War or Europe circa 1916. Planets have a tendency to be self sustaining. I mean, Earth is still kicking around, and we've been trying to muck that up for about 300 years now. Fleets might need to be resupplied, and have losses replaced, but space is big. Like, really big. People like hyperspace lanes because they're easy and safe, but there's literally no reason why the GA couldn't find a way to get their ships there if they really wanted. They did it once, after all, and they can do it again. Whether or not it's defensible is another problem altogether, but honestly, who cares? They're getting one hell of a story out of it.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"] Can you please lock this thread? I think everyone already made their points and i regret ever posting this.

EDIT: Don't please. Continue. I wanna hear feedback

But Rusty, you're right... I guess I'm just used to sites which has stricter war rules or something.

But I do question this:

their ENTIRE Navy will be obliterated by the One Sith's superior navy, more advanced and more manned than the GA
That's actually fairly unlikely. The One Sith has no active fleeting specialists and the Galactic Alliance has eighteen fighter pilot PCs, most of whom are active.

Welcome to show business, kid.

Very carefully.

Seriously though, check out the group Valiens linked you. If you've got an idea for a system, that would be the place to debut it. It's kinda dead these days, but it's a pretty good place to refine and test ideas. Come up with a rough proposal, we'll refine it and see if there's some merit.

I don't think she means in an actual thread.

The OS does, factually, have better developed ships than GA right now. It is also true they both have no Naval officers. It is also true the GA does have active pilots which is super fun! : D

So I guess the GA does have more semblance than the OS for a fleet right now. Which is sad since the OS had some great Naval officers a year ago and still have a few who, sadly, don't have as much freedom to post as they once did. CURSE REAL LIFE DEMANDING ATTENTiON FROM FORUMS.

However yeah, in reality a mad dash is a poor idea, not saying they broke any rules or should be punished (i don't think anyone is), but yes in reality the OS's navy would likely isolate the GA from receiving reinforcements and trapping their people on Coruscant if they win.

However, it isn't reality and in some ways that's good.

*I'm still all for a minor tweak so we can have production be a thing. Companies and skirmishes would be awesome if they mattered to factions, like facilities needing to be repaired, protected, or not purposefully destroyed when a faction takes a place over. Plus I mean when a battleship blows up and over 10,000 crew died it should be a felt thing for a faction to replace those lost resource I mean slaves I mean patriots*

I ran a medieval board which had numbers game behind the scenes. It was successful, but it broke things down into 1|2|3|4|5 sort of basic maths as it were, so it was more easily organized. The battles themselves played a passing part in it, and it became a hit with strategy players, less so with roleplayers generally in the end.

Chaos is so much bigger and creatively freer i'd have no idea how you would manage it. The current rules for invasions are not, who has the most ships, or how the battle goes, it is who writes the best story. Having been on the losing end of 2, a third to be decided, troop numbers have nothing to do with it anymore. Aside from territory (which can mean a bad hit to your character), the only things you can really lose worth anything are unique or semi unique stuff, and location subs. Characters too of course! :D

Its how you engage the other writers, entertainment, effort and lack of OOC drama.
