War Stories

If Xin was looking at her or kept staring towards her direction she hadn't noticed. Eyes had been trained on the fleet, observing and mentally recording as much as she possibly could. Military experience and her time marooned alone had shaped her into a more cautious, suspicious person. At one point her in life Delila probably would have ran headlong into the fleet, stayed awhile with no second thoughts. Older Dells was a bit jaded. A hazard of seeing and experiencing too much of the negative side of the 'verse.

They were now in the shadow of the largest flagship vessel. Hand reached out, slowing down her ship to ease into the open hangar.

Delila listened to his question, mildly annoyed her poker face wasn't as good as it was in years past. She was still working on the social side of her life after years of being alone. Hopefully in time her cool facade would return when she needed it.

"I'm always suspicious. Its the way my brain has been wired to think for years." Delila offered a shrug. A question burned in the back of her mind. "Why do you care what I think? Its not like we're old friends or attached in some way."

Xin gave a noncommittal shrug. He didn't disagree with what she said. There wasn't a particularly good reason to take her opinion over anyone else's. He'd never slept with anyone for their wisdom before.

"Not really spoken to many people about it. Guess da whole slavery comment caught me out a bit. People here are good people I think. Guy who runs the Dragoons though...bit creepy."

The duros didn't seem a bad person really. What he seemed like was exactly the kind of person that needed to be in charge of the Fleets diplomatic and special operations arm. They were a desperate people and there had to be someone to bend the moral code a little to keep then flying. Whilst he hadn't really threatened Xin, events had been orchestrated to ensure he provided his help and knowledge on his own crew to get that first job done.

"Child molester creepy or money embezzling pastor type creepy?"

Crimson Dahlia settled down on the hangar of the flagship. There was no move to cycle down the systems or anything similar. She had little intentions of getting out and poking around. Perhaps it was rude or making it seem like a standoffish queen. Despite the fact she knew, socially, the ship should be shut down and a tour done, Delila couldn't bring herself to perform the act.

Hands were removed from the controls and she swiveled in the pilots chair to observe Xin.

"Only advice I can give you is sleep with a large knife. If you don't have one I have several you can have."

"Politician creepy."

Were the people he had become tangled up with really that bad? he thought to himself. He had worked for bad people with bad intentions before. Now, perhaps, he was working for some bad people with good intentions. If the Dragoons needed to pin something on a scapebantha for the good of the Fleet would they do that to him? Almost certainly.

"I have quite a few blasters," he replied. Some of them could fit quite snugly beneath a pillow. If he slept on a bed. There was a ship with some aquatic accommodation, but there were other issues around that.

The hint on the still running engines was taken. She really didn't like the look of this place.

"It was gud to meet you Dells," he said warmly. He turned and gave a smile as he stood up. He slipped a small datapad from his pocket and swiped up a screen with his contact details. "Dat's me. If yuh ever have some work nearby or want to, you know..." he left hook up again unsaid. "Or even just a drink sometime," he added. Xin was quite a social creature and would probably make the effort just for a chat. There was that scar he still wanted to ask about. Wasn't as if she was making to settle down with him.

"If you ever get in a spot of trouble just give me a yell."

Comm was fished from her pocket as she took down Squidly's details. Contact information exchanged, she smirked as he went through a list of 'when to contact' of sorts. Delila suspected they would cross paths again eventually. She wasn't too keen on helping the fleet but was willing to work with Brak or Xin again. Comm had made it back into her pocket and she gave Squidly a quick hug.

"Be safe out there. Don't need you riddled with blaster holes."

"Yuh too," he replied. There was something in his smile that was different to before. Xin almost always wore an easy smile on his face. It was like clothes: he put it on every day to look decent in front of people. The difference was subtle, but there was some genuine warmth behind this one.

Whilst he had gone for two years without getting laid he had also gone without any good conversation. "Even if you're in de same sector. Can find out if you're right about did lot. Bet yuh would have more war stories to tell."

As well as the smile, there was a bit more of a spring in his step as he took his bags and headed off to find Brak.
