WARDENS OF THE SKY
REPUBLIC JEDI ORDER

The Wardens of the Sky trace their origins to ancient traditions of Force users who saw the vastness of space not as a place of conquest, but as a domain to be preserved and protected. Unlike other Force Orders that focused on temple-based training and rigid dogma, the Wardens focus on a deep connection to the natural world, the cosmos, and their inherent responsibility to protect the innocent.
Their philosophy revolves around balance: they recognize that the Force can be used for both destruction and creation, and that their role is not to dominate or control, but to ensure harmony. They believe that the Force flows through everything—be it the stars, the planets, or the people—and that they must protect these things from corruption, exploitation, or destruction. This makes their outlook highly ecological, and they often view themselves as guardians of the galaxy's life forces.
Many Wardens travel the hyperlanes of Wild Space and the Slice in anonymity, indiscernible from common spacers on the frontier. They value the comforts of their freighters or starships just as much as a temple, sometimes even more so on account of their unmitigated freedom when traveling the stars. When they do find need of solid ground, however, a Warden need only visit one of the network's many chapter houses across Wild Space. The order’s primary location is Warden's Rest on Sanctuary, but outposts can be found all across the frontier.
Code of the Wardens:
There is no identity, only the freedom of the wind.
There is no intrusion, only the space between the stars.
There is no bond, only the flight of the starbird.
There is no fear, only the quiet drift of the sky.
There is no conflict, only the balance of the horizon.
There is no judgment, only the observation of the vast expanse.
There is no master, only the equal pull of the stars.
There is no past, only the infinite horizon ahead.

As they travel through the vast expanse of space, the Wardens are highly attuned to the currents of the Force, using their deep connection to it as a tool to locate those who are sensitive to its energy. Some Wardens have developed the ability to sense fluctuations in the Force through dreams or visions, almost like an instinct that guides them toward certain individuals. They may feel a strong pull to a particular planet or system, driven by a calling to find someone who needs guidance or protection. These "callings" are often seen as divine or fateful moments, signaling that a new Padawan is about to emerge.
Once a potential Force-sensitive individual is identified, the process of bringing them aboard a Warden’s ship is carefully considered. The Wardens approach with caution, preferring to earn the trust of those they wish to train rather than force their way into someone's life. They might approach the individual in a non-threatening way, offering help or simply engaging in conversation to gauge the person's disposition and level of awareness of their own abilities.
For those who are willing, the Wardens extend an invitation: come aboard one of their ships, join them in their travels, and train to understand the Force more deeply. They emphasize that the training is not about becoming a weapon, but rather a guardian and protector of balance—whether that balance is in the Force, in the individual's life, or in the larger galaxy.
However, this invitation is not given lightly. The Wardens are discerning and know that not all Force sensitives are ready or willing to join their cause. If someone feels called to follow their teachings, the Wardens make it clear that the path ahead is one of discipline, self-discovery, and sometimes sacrifice. The decision is left entirely to the individual.
Due to their nomadic nature, Wardens may only train one Padawan at a time. This is both to ensure a strong bond between teacher and pupil and to protect the Wardens' identity. Apprenticeships are not viewed as permanently as the Master-Padawan relationship of Jedi in the Core, however; for any number of reasons, a Padawan may choose to discontinue their training and choose a new Master, or even resign from the order.

The Wardens offer both formal instruction in the ways of the Force and practical experience on their travels. The ships themselves are designed to foster learning, with specialized areas for meditation, combat training, and research into the deeper mysteries of the Force. The Wardens of the Sky do not merely teach combat; they emphasize balance, mental discipline, and the importance of understanding the nature of the Force itself.
The Wardens do not maintain a rigid hierarchy or a strict, centralized order. Instead, they believe in fostering the individual's unique potential. Each Force-sensitive who joins them is encouraged to forge their own path, but always with guidance from their more experienced mentors. The journey of training is one of self-discovery as much as it is about learning to control one's power.
While fundamentalist Jedi tend to reject the use of blasters, explosives, slicing kits, and other "uncivilized" equipment, a Warden views them as tools of the trade. In this way, they are quite similar to the Jedi Judges who venerate their trusty blaster pistols just as much as their lightsabers. Wardens of the Sky are not opposed to switch fluidly between lightsabers and blasters. They make use of thermal detonators, trip mines, slicing tools, dataspikes, and anything else that the situation calls for.
In time, those who complete their training often find themselves not just as guardians of the Force, but as protectors of the balance that ties together all living things across the galaxy. Their travels are never about domination or control, but rather about maintaining the cosmic harmony, using the Force to heal, protect, and guide others on their own journeys.
Some Wardens view their starships more as a vessel of the Force than a simple vehicle. There are certain starships that are considered standard options, such as the Actis-class interceptor, but finding and customizing one's own ship is just as revered a tradition as a Padawan building their first lightsaber. To a Warden, their starship is the thing that connects them to the broader galaxy beyond their homeworld. Without a proper ship, they could never hope to see the stars and defend others from dark forces.

When Wardens of the Sky reach Knighthood, they have the option to specialize in a discipline that aligns with their unique skills and affinities. The traditional Jedi paths of Guardian, Consular, and Sentinel offer familiar structures: Guardians are combat-focused warriors, Consulars excel in diplomacy and the Force, while Sentinels balance both by using resourcefulness and stealth. Each path enhances the Warden's role in the galaxy, whether on the battlefield, in negotiations, or gathering intelligence.
However, some Wardens prefer to explore less conventional paths, delving into specialized traditions that broaden their understanding and mastery of the Force.
Jedi Beastmasters develop a deep connection with the creatures of the galaxy, allowing them to communicate and control animals, often using them in combat or for exploration.
Force Warriors blend their mastery of the Force with exceptional martial skills. They rely on using the Force as both a weapon and a defensive tool when engaging threats. While Force Warriors possess impressive lightsaber training, they are typically unarmed combatants who utilize their knowledge and mastery of Force abilities in the field.
Jedi Hunters focus on tracking and defeating dangerous threats, whether they're wild beasts or dark side users. Their enhanced senses and survival skills make them formidable in the wilderness or during covert operations. They use their knowledge of terrain and stealth to hunt down their prey, serving as protectors or avengers where the Force's more subtle techniques would fail.
Jedi Marshals serve as vigilant guardians assigned to specific planets or systems, acting as both protectors and peacekeepers. Marshals work alongside Republic Rangers, using their skills in diplomacy, combat, and survival to protect their charge. Marshals often blend seamlessly into local communities to provide guidance and confront any threats that may arise.
Jedi Sages specialize in using the Force to heal physical and mental wounds. They employ techniques such as Force healing, a practice that accelerates the natural healing process, alleviates pain, and restores vitality. Many Sages also make use of herbal medicines and remedies curated over centuries by those who came before.
Jedi Seers possess the unique ability to foresee potential futures, often through visions or heightened intuition. Their insights allow them to guide the order’s decisions, advising on matters of great importance and helping to prevent potential conflicts or disasters.

The Wardens of the Sky are a unique and revered group within the broader defense ecosystem of Wild Space. Though they function alongside the Republic Defense Force (RDF) and Ranger Corps, their role and operations are distinct in both purpose and methodology, maintaining their free-spirited traditions while contributing to the collective protection and peacekeeping efforts in the region.
While the RDF is respected by the Wardens as the dominant military force, the Wardens of the Sky typically avoid direct command by the RDF. Instead, they work as independent allies, sometimes providing intelligence or acting as covert operatives when needed. The RDF recognizes the Wardens' expertise in uncharted territories, as well as their ability to handle complex, delicate situations. The RDF will often handle large-scale security operations, dealing with threats like organized crime syndicates, hostile fleets, or the armies of warlords. The Wardens' agile and decentralized nature complements this, often stepping in for missions that require finesse or tactical avoidance of excessive force.
Despite the collaborative efforts, the Wardens of the Sky remain fiercely independent, ensuring that their involvement does not compromise their way of life. They avoid becoming a cog in the larger military machine. Leadership within the Wardens is fluid and decentralized, with decisions often made collectively. They follow their own codes, relying on experience and wisdom rather than rigid commands, allowing them to remain flexible in their operations. Wardens never impose themselves on the population or political structures. They only act when called upon, maintaining a sense of autonomy that aligns with their philosophies of freedom and balance.
