Watch new footage from cancelled Star Wars shooter First Assault

Looks great, I still want my 1313!

I've decided anything too adult Disney promptly scrapped. Honestly I don't think they were ready to take over a fan base with such a high number of over 16 fans. One could argue they have Marvel, but a lot of folks tend to view comic book violence and sci-fi violence as two different beasts.

I would disagree there.

They cancelled the Clone Wars because they wanted people to focus on the OT - hence Rebels which is the same style.

They cancelled 1313 and presumably this because they were dead ends not consistent to their plans.

I'm going to wait and see the new movie before I throw Disney under the bus.

Wasn't trying to throw them under the bus, just pointing out most of their stuff isnt gritty. Although if 1313 wasn't consistent with their plans, its mentioned quite a lot in the new EU book Dark Disciple. Why scrap it but keep mentioning it?

I read that the House of Mouse scrapped both First Assault and 1313 because they didn't want to continue working on them after purchasing LucasArts and they wanted to allow other companies to make their own Star Wars games.

Well, all I know is Dice made Battlefront uninteresting in my opinion, it's simple, but....too simple. Dice makes really good games, and I was hoping they would add their Battlefield edge to Star Wars, but it felt more like they kinda just gently slid into the Star Wars franchise, and was too cautious in making the game.

I feel they were just too afraid of what fans would think of it, and just added what we all saw from the movies and left it as is. HOPEFULLY, Dice tries again, this time braver than before. Dice could really do a lot with Star Wars.

Goodness that looked rather fun! I'd have LOVED to have seen that live as a shooter. The map looks really immersive, and far more exciting than playing in open terrain.

1313. I had been looking forward to that until Disney scrapped it. To explore the Coruscant underworld and all. Made me mad when Disney did that. I got a picture of Mickey Mouse and put it on my dart board and threw darts at it as a result.......... Okay just kidding about the darts and Mickey Mouse but I sure was thinking about doing it.

They had cancelled Battlefront too but then resurrected it. So why not resurrect both First Assault and 1313?

Force Unleashed was originally going to be a single player/co-op game with you playing as Darth Maul and your hop in/hop out friend being...another zabrak sith that existed 400 years before Darth Maul...That timeline inconsistency was introduced by none other than George Lucas himself during one of the production meetings. It became a #1 rule around those who worked at LucasArts: Don't tell George Lucas how the Force works. :)

Good lord people are so blind when it comes to 1313.

So LucasArts track record of recent non-licensed games was pretty terrible. While they were impressive from a technical standpoint (TFU), they lacked a lot of the things that made games great. They were moderately fun, but altogether underwhelming. Given that, we have no reason to expect that 1313 would have been all that good aside from "oooh, it is gritty." But if you really think a SW game was going to be that gritty then you're probably fooling yourself. Yes, it'd be in the underworld. Yes, you'd be playing an outlaw. However, this is SW which is hardly if anything all that gritty.

LucasArts was not closed because Disney didn't like the products it was making. LucasArts was closed because it was losing money out the butt. It had had multiple projects heads turned over. It was just a poorly run segment of the Lucas Empire. Closing it was 100% a business decision and a sound one at that.

Plus, let's not forget that just because it was cancelled at the time does not mean that Disney did not see the potential in licensing out the brand and ideas of 1313 out to other companies which were just better at making games. Oh wait! June 29, 2015 includes an awesome report saying... oh wait... this can't be... Visceral Games, that dope studio that makes Dead Space, is working on a Star Wars game. And whaaat it has a writer involved in it from the Uncharted team... ya know the game that 1313 was being compared to. Nah man... Disney is just evil... this can't be true. Oh wait. It is.

Good lord do I hate sensationalized narratives that just lack actual analysis of information.
