Well This Just Got Awkward for Me

“You alright?” She asked, noting the strange look on his face. She looked startled when he began to go down. “Hey!” She reached for him, but he had already hit the floor. Sighing, Zey stooped down and prodded at his arm. “Hey, you alive down there?” She placed two of her fingers at his neck just under his chin, pulling them away when she felt his pulse. Well that was good news. The passed out merc with questionable injuries was less than good news.

Grabbing both of his arms, Zey tried to drag him out of the cargo hold, but only managed to move him a few inches before giving up. “Damn you’re heavy.” She commented, wiping the sweat from her hairline with her sleeve. A bit frustrated, she left briefly for the washroom, wetting a towel under the sink before returning and pressing it to his face. “C’mon, wake up already…” She slapped his face, not hard enough to add to his injuries but enough for it to sting a bit.

Gray got man handled by Zey after he was knocked out, and not in the way he really hoped for. Her wiping his face and slap really did the trick. His eyes fluttered open. He looked around and all he saw was Zey. He said when he saw her, " I'm looking at an angel, I must have died...." He looked like he was still out of it at first, but soon his eyes showed some realization. He added once he did, " Oh Zey...hey. What happened? Did we get hit by space debris?"

Gray slowly got himself back up. His legs almost buckled under him, but he managed to retain his balance. He said after he felt he had his footing, " I think I might need some help getting to the cockpit." He smiled and added, " Not making a good impression at all here am I?"

Zey shook her head, chuckling to cover up her relief. “Something like that. Glad you’re still among the living.”

She moved to support him as he shakily stood, taking one of his arms over her shoulder while placing one of her hands on his back. “C’mon you big lug, let’s get you to the cockpit so I can at least keep an eye on your when you pass out.” She laughed and shook her head. “I think killing a dozen pirates was pretty hot, so it evens out.”

Gray smiled at her and said, " Not to brag, but it was actually sixteen pirates that I killed. You got one and the other is in the hold. Glad to hear you think I'm hot though. Maybe we can have a little fun before we get back?" He winked at before wincing from some pain. He clearly had said something so bad it was even hurting him on the inside.

Gray got to the cockpit and slide into the co-pilot seat. He looked up at Zey and smiled to her. He said, " I set up this mission hoping to show off to you and look how it went for me. Sure made a mess of things and even put you into danger. Sorry Zey, I failed you here. Take my portion of the pay as well." He closed his eyes after her finished talking. He really had failed on this mission. He got himself hurt, he didn't follow through with the plan, and worst of all was Zey. He put her in danger, he worried her, he had her carry a pirate into the hold, and he had to have her help him out. He said without thinking about it, " I'm sorry Zey. I'm pathetic and got you wrapped up in my failings." He passed out in the chair right after he finished speaking.

“Hey, at least you let me get one kill in. Now that we’re out of danger, that was pretty exhilarating.” She fought back the urge to slap him upside the head for his suggestion, reminding herself that he was injured.

As they settled into the cockpit, Zey detached the loading dock and took the ship out of distress mode. Arching a brow, the pilot snorted. “Hey, these things happen. Sometimes to get the job done, things have to be done a little differently. You still did most of the work.” She began flipping switches and pushing knobs, the ship humming back to life.

Before she could respond to his last statement, she saw his body slump in the chair and realized he had passed out. Shrugging it off, she simply shook her head again, a small smile on her face as she directed the ship toward the nearest medical center.
