- Age: The human Wes was in his thirties when he was processed. The HRD would be about ten years old now.
- Model: ARD X-1 Human Replica Droid.
- Appearance: Wes is tall, strongly built and has short, brown hair. On the outside, he looks completely human, resembling an adult male in excellent physical condition. In truth, his skeleton is made of durasteel, concealed by cloned organic coverings. Since he is an HRD, he weighs a lot more than a human with his physical shape should, namely about 100 kg. This is something that can give a hint about his true nature. For some reason, he's fond of wearing sunglasses.
- Name: Wes Edison.
- Loyalties: Enyo Typhos.
- Notable Possessions: He has a blaster pistol hidden in his right wrist. He can pull it out if cornered or to carry out a surprise attack, though that risks breaking his cover.
Personality: Wes is a typical Archangel HRD. His personality is characterised by neatness, organisation and precision. Give him a task, and you can be confident that he will see it through to conclusion. He hands out assignments, takes care of administrative minutiae and orders hits on people who get in the way. Being a droid, he does not eat, sleep or tire, beyond requiring a one-hour period to recharge and download updates. He does not feel emotion, but as an advanced replicant is able to simulate it. Urbane, composed and cunning, he is a good actor. He often manifests a dry, sardonic wit when he channels the personality of the organic he was on based on. He's also a good Dejarik player.
Wes is completely loyal to Enyo...because his programming dictates it. Being a droid, he has no emotional attachment to her. She just happens to be his Controller and thus he is compelled to obey her, even though he was originally dispatched by Archangel to eliminate her after the hybrid went rogue. As his aptly named Controller she can order him to do almost anything. This does not stop Wes from voicing his opinion when logic dictates that he disapprove of her actions or consider them ill-advised. However, he is unable to disobey her. As a machine, he is able to store vast amounts of information. Furthermore, he is incorruptible since he has no vices. This makes him a good second-in-command to keep the underbosses in line.
Combat Function: Combat is not his main function since he's largely a manager, but Wes was designed to be an assassin droid and is thus an adept combatant. He possesses superhuman strength, speed and durability and is adept in the use of ranged and melee weapons. This also enables him to wield heavy weapons such as grenade launchers, rotary cannons and missile launchers with rase. He has a tactical mind and is good at improvising. His capabilities and weaknesses reflect those of HRDs designed by Archangel.
- Incredibly strong. An HRD's capability is upwards of double of a comparable human. For a very short period he can lift triple the weight. As he also feels no pain he can use his body as a weapon or to smash through barriers.
- He is extremely resilient. An HRD can take several blaster bolts to the head or chest before the unit fails. Limbs can be severed and severe damage done, but he will press on regardless.
- Being a skilled infiltrator, he can act like a human being and blend in well, using his abilities to deceive a potential opponent before revealing his true nature and striking.
- Relentless. HRDs are assassins and combat droids of a highly advanced level. He knows neither fear nor any other emotion except when he mimics. Lacking a conscience, he is ruthless.
- As a machine, Wes is vulnerable to ion and electrical attacks. A powerful blast of Sith Lightning or an ion grenade can severely damage vital systems even if the unit is not destroyed.
- Likewise he is vulnerable to applications of mechu-deru and magnetism.
- HRDs are powerful, but in the high tech modern galaxy they are not invulnerable. Blaster bolts to the head or chest can damage or disable him, as can powerful explosives and especially lightsabres, since his skeleton is only made of durasteel.
- While a sophisticated android, he is still detectable. Anyone able to detect their weight will find it off, whilst someone able to do a deep scan will notice oddities. Finally, a Force user could sense that something is off as the machine beneath is not truly living.
- Wes does not understand the Force. It is something he can observe the effects of and has trouble quantifying. While he has experience fighting Force-users, if put against them he is sometimes unable to assess potential dangers.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
To speak of Wes is in effect to speak of two people; a now dead human man, and the machine which took his name and at least a little bit of his personality. The human Wes was a Corellian born into a lower middle class family. After a successful career with CorSec and Omega Pyre during the Omega Protectorate's rise to prominence, his life changed when he was hired by
Aurelia Saelari's staff as a security specialist to handle any threats the politician might face. Aurelia had been the first Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic that arose after the Dark Age. After losing the general election to her Ardak Serifen, she served briefly as the Protectorate's Chief Minister before returning to the Republic to focus on her family business. The corrupt politician had made a number of enemies, so she obviously needed protection.
Shortly thereafter, Aurelia was abducted by unknown kidnappers. Leading a search party, Wes was responsible for locating her on a remote asteroid and freeing her from captivity. All evidence pointed towards her captors being radical anti-Republic terrorists with ties to the Sith. For his success, Wes was promoted in her security organisation.
However, he soon began to notice changes in his boss. Aurelia was just as arrogant and bossy as ever, but had become a different woman. All of a sudden, she was more driven, determined to play a leading role in the Republic again. Believing that it was her destiny to lead it against the One Sith, she returned to the Senate.
Moreover, she stopped sleeping. Wes grew more suspicious when an HRD called Callisto Scarlett joined Aurelia's staff, with direct access to his boss. After one of Aurelia's aides disappeared under suspicious circumstances and his duties were taken over by Callisto, Wes launched a private investigation. By then Aurelia had become one of the three Triumvirs in charge of a beleaguered Republic.
When he began digging too deeply, investigating not only the suspicious circumstances of Aurelia's abduction, but also the shady dealings of Archangel Research and Design, the company that had supplied his boss with an HRD, he was sacked. Increasingly obsessed, he nonetheless pressed on. Feeling vengeful, he got in touch with a Senator who was a political rival of Aurelia and offered him compromising information.
However, his private scheming ended when he was lured into a trap and abducted by Callisto. The human Wes was euthanised and processed, for Archangel had discovered the technology to create startlingly realistic facsimiles of organic beings. Thus he was replaced by a replicant that took his name, his face and at least part of his personality. Ironically, how he learned the truth: Like him, Aurelia had been replaced by a replicant. He just did not care anymore.
The replicant became an agent of Archangel, carrying out many missions for the machine cult. These included industrial espionage, assassinations, abductions of organic beings for processing and running Archangel outposts. He participated in operations on Eriadu, Contruum, Thakwaash and on many other worlds. One mission of note was participating in a bioterrorism attack when his boss Moira Skaldi and the Sith Lady [member="Anaya Fen"] unleashed a zombie virus on Pergitor. Using a disguise, Wes was responsible for releasing the virus through the air filtration of a hotel.
Then Archangel's two Force clones, Enyo Typhos and Amara Zarides, rebelled, breaking free from Archangel's iron grip. They soon assembled a coalition of deplorables to launch raids on their former masters. Needless to say Archangel sent agents to capture or eliminate them. One of them was Wes, who pursued the pair with the same determination he'd once employed against their creators.
Using a force of bounty-hunters and droids, he ambushed Enyo on Tatooine, after shooting down her shuttle with a rocket launcher. However, though damaged, Enyo managed to overcome her attackers and disable him. When faced with the decision of what to do with the droid, she decided to reprogramme him. Reactivated, Wes transferred his allegiance to his new Controller. Ironically, though Enyo had been abused and tormented by droids, she trusted them more than organics since she could control them. So she eventually decided to make him her henchman in her criminal/paramilitary organisation.
