Private When A Rainbow Meets A Storm Cloud

Naboo was prettier than Lailya thought it would be, even in the more developed areas. Sure, it couldn't hold a candle to the forests of Vanquo, but the park she had wandered to was nice! It wasn't very crowded, and had just enough foliage to remind her of home. Walking down the path, picnic basket in the crook of her elbow, Lailya admired the scenery, humming quietly to herself. The sun was shining through the trees, and she could almost feel the pulse of life from all the plants around her as she looked for a spot to sit down and eat. Though, speaking of sitting down...

She did remember a blanket, right?

Scrunching her face in sudden concern, Lailya looked down and began digging through her basket as she walked. Jam, bread, fruits, juice, all of that was there, but where was the blanket? You couldn't have a picnic without a blanket!

"Oooooh don't tell me I forgot to get a- oh!"

Bumping into someone, Lailya stumbled back a step and looked at the person she bumped into with concern.

"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry! Are you all right? I didn't hit anything, did I?"

Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic

It was a pleasant enough day, Dreidi had decided to spend it outside practicing on her guitar and hopefully sort out this song that she was writing. It was tricky to get the writing to work as a song, there were things she wanted to write about but she couldn't figure out the right words to fit or rhyme. Rhyming and rhythm were super hard for her. Everyone said that she was just new to song writing so she had to practice more to get into the mindset, but she was panicking. While Jedi training was going fine, she was super interested in making the music hobby a serious deal. Demonstrate her skills, ever since she performed on stage in front of people awhile back, she was desperate to get that feeling of euphoria again. Though, she wasn't sure that the euphoria was purely from the singing, the drink she had was definitely odd.

Wearing her favourite faded black ripped jeans, studded belt, red plaid shirt that was several sizes too big and open to show off the band t-shirt she had on underneath as well as some leather bracelets. Dreidi was feeling that she was discovering her fashion taste, her hair wasn't styled great but it was loose and had the traditional Padawan braid tucked behind her ear. Her guitar was strapped to her back in its case, she had a notebook which was stuffed with loose notes, all of which went flying when she bumped into someone while heading to the public park. "Nooooooo!" Dreidi cried out, not even acknowledging the other person yet, her mind focused on making sure all her hard work didn't go flying away in the breeze. Clutching the papers as quickly as she could, Dreidi let out a relieved sigh when she double checked that she still had everything.

"Phew... I would have cried if I lost these!" Dreidi exclaimed mostly to herself. Looking at the person who bumped into her, "oh! Hey, no worries, I should have been looking where I was going!" Dreidi offered a small smile.

Dusting off her top, it was a little crumpled but she was able to style it out. "Everything okay? Seem a little distracted..." Dreidi tilted her head.

Lailya Solus Lailya Solus

As Lailya looked at the girl she had bumped into pick up all the papers, she couldn't help but notice how different their fashion tastes were. While she was dressed in a daisy print tea length dress with puffy sleeves, the other was dressed like her "cousin" Tabitha! Holding back a giggle, Lailya smiled back at the other girl.

"Oh, yes, I was just... Looking to see if I packed a blanket with me. I wanted to have a picnic, and thought I packed everything I needed..."

Frowning slightly, Lailya began to dig in her basket once more, before letting out a small phrase of excitement in Mando'a and pulling out the blanket.

"Finally! Oh, why don't you join me? I have plenty of food to share, and food is always better when you share it with someone! It's the least I could do for bumping into you, and making you drop your... music sheets?"

Squinting her eyes slightly, Lailya looked at what she could see of the papers sticking out of the other girl's notebook. From what she could tell, they were handwritten, and the words didn't quite rhyme right, but maybe she could help out a bit! Lailya used magic like her mom, and knew a few things about lyrics!

"My name's Lailya, by the way! Lailya Solus."

Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic

Looking at the dress that the other girl was wearing, Dreidi smirked to herself and realised that could have been her if things had been different in her life. If things didn't spiral downhill like it had. However, this was the path she was on and part of her enjoyed this path, how she was very different to other Jedi out there. Sorting her papers, trying to put them back in the order that they had been in before though she was worried that some might have been damaged in some way but it was just simple anxiety. Checking the papers, she was relieved that everything was fine, though she thought some of the songs were trash, she didn't want to lose them.

Hearing the stranger mumble something in Mando'a, Dreidi's ears burned. She recognised the language, it was one that her father tried teaching her as a child. She couldn't remember much of it but it sounded familiar, "what was that you were speaking?" Dreidi rose to her feet, "just I recognise it but can't place it." Scratching the back of her head, she was annoyed that she couldn't remember the language since it seemed to be common and probably be useful in understanding this stranger more. In case Dreidi was walking into a likely dangerous situation, she doubted it but more knowledge would have secured that feeling.

"Oh, don't worry, I bumped into you as much as you bumped into me." Dreidi waved her away to dismiss the need to apologise. "But, it is hard to turn down an offer for free food," chuckling deeply as Dreidi smiled warmly then noticed that the other person was studying her music sheets, Dreidi blushed. "They are just drafts... Just drafts..." Dreidi mumbled out loud.

"Oh. I'm Dreidi, Dreidi Xeraic. Nice to meet you Lailya!" Dreidi offered a warm smile.

Lailya Solus Lailya Solus

"Oh, you mean Mando'a?"

Lailya smiled warmly at Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic and put the blanket back in the basket, on top of the food this time though. She was happy an aruetii was taking an interest in Mandalorian culture, even if it was just their language! Feeling a sense of comradery, though only slightly, Lailya hooked her hand gently around Dreidi's elbow.

"Nice to meet you too, Dreidi! Let's find a spot to sit down and eat, yeah?"

Taking the lead, Lailya would gently pull Dreidi along the trail if she let Lailya pull her along.

"My Buir started teaching me after she adopted me when my dad died. It was kind of scary, when the Jetiise attacked Azure a few years back, but it was fun riding around on her Rancor. Cuddles doesn't like a lot of people, but she cried over my dad. He got crushed under some rubble."

Despite the rather dark nature of Lailya's words, her tone was rather... Casual, about it all. Like she didn't realize she just dumped an emotional bomb on poor Dreidi.

"I've been living with Clan Solus on Vanquo ever since! Have you ever been? It's suuuuper pretty, as long as you stay near civilization. Aruetiise aren't really advised to explore the forests, since almost everything is deadly. If you ever visit, you should let me know, so I can make sure you don't mistake a Scriosar for a person!"

Mando'a. Mando'a? Where did her dad learn how to speak Mando'a when he was alive? Dreidi was unsure a lot about her father's upbringing and pre-Jedi life. Especially since the Jedi and Mandalorians had a tumultuous history. Might be something to ask her mother about when she saw her next. Dreidi was a bit taken aback when Lailya just linked arms suddenly and guided Dreidi to a spot. This Mando seemed overly friendly, not the usual harden warriors that Dreidi had read or met while being a part of the CIS. There were plenty of Mandos around, part of a militia or something, she wasn't sure if Lailya and her clan, was it called a clan? Dreidi was not great on her knowledge on other cultures.

"Buir? Jetiise?" Dreidi murmured, as she tried to decipher the odd foreign word, "is Jetiise, Jedi?" Dreidi asked as she tilted her head trying to understand who attacked Azure. While normally she would be quick to defend Jedi, the current climate, Jedi were acting just as war mongering as Sith in some factions. While this was clearly years ago, likely to be the SJC, Dreidi knew that there were Mandalorians persistently causing Jedi worlds harm and SJC were fighting to survive. At least, that was what the archives said, but that could be just victors explaining their bias side... Dreidi was a little more than just a tad confused on the history.

"Sorry about your dad. I lost mine a few months ago, he got himself killed by going to war against Sith when he was very ill." Dreidi commented, she was still hurt that her father left her, left her mum and sisters just to chase glory in her mind.

Lailya then said more words that went over her head. Clan Solus, so that must be her family, so clans were a thing. Vanquo was a planet from context. But then aruetiise? Was an aruetiise a child? A Padawan Jedi since Jetiise was similar sounding word... Then scriosar? What was that?! Dreidi was so lost with the conversation, she cursed herself for not paying attention to language classes, they were desperately needed right now. "Not been to Vanquo. Was born on Kashyyyk then moved here to Naboo, be to odd world or two while part of CIS but not often since I was still learning a lot..." Dreidi mentioned. "Sounds interesting, I will have to remember if I ever find myself there." Dreidi offered a small smile as she was still trying to decipher so much of what was said.

Lailya Solus Lailya Solus

It didn't really dawn on Lailya that Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic wouldn't understand her mixing Mando'a into basic at first, and smiled sheepishly at the other girl with a nod at her question on what Jetiise meant. Maybe she could teach Dreidi some Mando'a while they ate? Lailya looked at Dreidi with frown though, as she talked about losing her own father only a few months back.

"I'm sorry about your dad. It... It gets easier, after a while. I know my Alor made a deal with the Sith to keep the Clan safe when Vanquo was in their space... They scare me, a bit."

Thinking back to when Carnifex himself visited Vanquo to meet with her Buir, Ba'vodu Sterling, Ba'vodu Star, and Alor, Lailya unconsciously squeezed Dreidi's arm slightly. She had seen her mother stare Carnifex down from a distance, and Azure had looked so small next to him... Lailya was scared for her family that day.

Finally seeing a nice, sunny, clear spot in the grass, Lailya pulled Dreidi over to it as the other girl smoke of her own past. Pulling the blanket back out of the basket, Lailya unfolded it with a smile and laid it down on the grass.

"This is my first time visiting a Confederate world. I've only ever been on Azure, Vanquo, Kiros, Mandalore, and... Whatever planet my Ba'Buir Adenn lives on. Oh, Ba'buir means grandpa, by the way! And aruetiise means outsider, basically? Any non-Mandalorian that's never been a Mandalorian is an Aruetii."

Sitting down on the blanket, Lailya set the basket down in front of her, and began pulling out the food. Various fruit jams, bread, whole fruits, a few veggies, anything one could need for a picnic. Once all the food was pulled out, Lailya took out a few mason jars filled with liquid.

"Do you like tea? I brought milk tea, a berry tea, and a herbal tea. There's plain water too, if you don't like any of those."

Talking about her dad was never easy and she wasn't sure that she would ever feel normal again but she didn't want to damper Lailya's mood so she avoided responding with how she really felt and just nodded her head. Instead she focused on listening and trying to understand all the information that was being dumped on her. The sudden realisation of why she hated learning foreign languages with her father came all rushing back. She had spent years forgetting why she hated learning languages and now remembering that it was so complicated and that other languages were complex with their on rules on grammar and sentence structure that Basic didn't.

Deep down, Dreidi wanted to let out a deep groan in frustration and boredom but she couldn't be that harsh to someone she barely knew. Instead she just remembered all the times she did it to her father in the past and a smile snuck up on her face. It was clear when Lailya mentioned Sith that she was talking about very dangerous individuals. Not sure who they were, Dreidi had her suspicions, believing it likely to be TSE Sith since they were all over the Mandalore region. However, she couldn't be sure and didn't want to say anything in case she was wrong. "Oh, well I haven't really met many Mandalorians, this is really my first time talking to one at length. My parents and eldest sister had to deal with a lot of fighting with Mandalorians and Sith so I wasn't sure if Mandalorians were soldiers of Sith Empire or not. But coming here, I learnt more about Sith and other cultures and realised how silly I had been." Dreidi let out a small chuckle.

"Tea?" Dreidi asked, she hadn't really had any tea before, usually drinking energy drinks, pop, water and when forced she would drink juice. "Not had tea before, so which one is best to start with?" Dreidi asked curiously.

Lailya Solus Lailya Solus

"Mm... Some Mandalorians do... Some of my own clan do too, but only to keep the rest of us safe from the Sith Empire... I try to make sure they all have a cake when they come home every few months... Some of them haven't come home though."

Lailya's smile faded from her face, as she thought about the Solus members who had to fight under the Sith Empire's banner. She was too young when the deal was made to be one of them, but she was glad her "cousin" Tabitha hadn't been one of them. Her face was neither sad or happy, as her thoughts wandered, until she processed that Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic had never had tea before! Reeling back with shock and a gasp, Lailya held a hand over her heart.

"You've never had tea before?!"

Blinking in disbelief for a moment, Lailya attempted to figure out how someone could never have had tea! This tragedy had to be remedied immediately! Looking over the three options, Lailya's eyes scanned over the jars of tea like they were suspects in a criminal case. Taking in the temperature, the fact that Dreidi had never had tea, and the fact that most other teenagers didn't like strong drinks, Lailya held out the berry tea to the other girl.

"Here, try the berry one. It's not as strong, and tastes more fruity than leaf-water-y."

Dreidi tilted her head, it seemed that Lailya thought tea was something that everyone should have at least tried, if not drinking on a regular basis. Was this a Mandalorian thing? Did Mandalorians only drink tea? Dreidi was a little puzzled by why it was big deal, must be a weird, super odd, cultural thing. She decided it would be better to just remain quiet and not question it, avoid offending her over something that could be very sacred. There seemed to be various types of teas with different flavours and strengths. Dreidi was baffled on the entire matter, but intrigued at the same time. Dreidi placed her music notes down and sat on the blanket as she waited for the tea to be brewed.

"What brings you to Naboo? Are you looking to join the Enclave or meet Mandalorians within the CIS?" Dreidi asked curiously as she took the cup of berry tea, giving the drink a cautious sniff. She hadn't really figured out what the tea is meant to taste of or if it would be safe. She took a sip, the flavour was fruity and quite pleasant. She wasn't sure if it would be something she would drink regularly though, it seemed too similar to a juice. "It's certainly different." Dreidi offered a warm smile, taking another sip.

Lailya Solus Lailya Solus

"Enclave? What's that?"

Lailya tilted her head curiously at Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic clearly confused. What was this Enclave? And there were Mandalorians in the Confederacy? Seemed kind of weird, in Lailya's opinion. From what she knew, a bunch of the grownups didn't... Like the Confederacy. Or, well. Anyone really.

"I just came to Naboo since it's got a lot of nature spaces. I'm not... A big fan of big city places."

Smiling back, Lailya opened up the jar of herbal tea for herself before taking a sip. She was glad Dreidi seemed to enjoy the berry tea, which really was more of an infusion than a tea, but it was easier to just call it a tea. Looking down at the food laid out between the two of them, Lailya rocked her head back and forth in thought on what she wanted to eat first. She was tempted to pull the cake out of the basket early!

"I think I brought too many options for food. Probably wasn't a good idea to just grab everything on the list my Buir gave me, but, oh well, I guess?"

Laughing quietly, Lailya reached into the basket and pulled out a spreader knife for each jam flavor. Setting her tea to the side, she began preparing herself a jam sandwich with a smile.

"Feel free to help yourself, by the way! I don't mind."

Dreidi shrugged, not being a Mandalorian she didn't know too much about the Enclave or what it entailed. All she knew was that it was the place for Mandalorians and where Mandalorians were building themselves up to be a force to be reckoned with. Especially since they were as strongly tied to Sith as some other Mandalorians were. She was curious as to how they lived and whether or not they would be aggressive towards Dreidi and Jedi in general or if they were more lax. From what she knew, she never really could see a relaxed Mandalorian, they seemed just as stiff as Jedi could be. Though Lailya seemed to be chill and not a meathead crying out for war.

"I don't know much about the Enclave, they are just Mandalorians that live in CIS space. Wasn't sure if they would be people that you knew?" Dreidi shrugged, "I never really been to big city planets, I was born on Kashyyyk then lived with my older sister where she rules. I come here now and again to do some extra training and get some space. Living with your sister is tough." Dreidi sighed deeply before finishing her tea, as much as she was glad to be where she was and working hard to get better, it wasn't easy.

Chuckling, she inspected the different food options that were available, "well, better to have too much to eat then too little." Dreidi made herself a cheese sandwich, though it was a mess of a sandwich in comparison to Lailya's. While her father was quite a capable cook, Dreidi was messy whirlwind that could make very, very basic things though in her mind it was impressive to make building a sandwich look so difficult and a real challenge. Dreidi started eating the sandwich as she offered Lailya a friendly smile.

Lailya Solus Lailya Solus

Lailya hummed in thought, thinking on if anyone she knew would join the Enclave that Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic mentioned. Clan Gred seemed to always be on the run, Mortui was always somewhere fighting, and if Lailya remembered correctly Ba'Buir Adenn didn't even like the Confederacy after Tanaab. Unless they got over it?

"Mm... I might, but anyone I can think of... Doesn't really like the Confederacy as far as I know. Old grudges, I think. Buir says Mandalorians have long memories, but she's so forgiving that it makes me wonder if that saying is true or not. Though, she was adopted into Clan Solus, like me... Maybe that changes things."

Shrugging as she took a bite of her sandwich, Lailya looked over the clearing they sat in. The flowers, trees, the little bird sitting in the bush, everything. It wasn't as quiet as Vanquo could be, but she didn't have to worry about her picnic being crashed by a two meter tall murder pony, or giant murder wasps, or getting kidnapped by deer people!

"I always wanted a younger sibling, but my mom died when I was reeeeeeeeeeeally little, and my Buir... Is honestly kind of dense? Like... My Ba'Vodu Sterling is so obviously attracted to her, but she just thinks he's being nice! Grown ups can be so silly. I'm surprised Ba'Vodu Sterling is still chasing her, after at least eight years."

Tilted her head, not liking the Confederacy? Why would that be? As far as Dreidi knew, the Confederacy were a bit more aggressive than she would like but they were friendly and allowed her to be a Jedi. "Why don't they like the Confederacy? Just, Confederacy are doing the best they can for peace, they helped with Eshan and my father always said that if CIS could bring Jedi and Sith together then it was possible for peace in the galaxy." Dreidi shrugged, there was plenty she didn't know and everyone had skeletons in the closet.

Continuing to eat the mess of a cheese sandwich, Dreidi spied some fresh fruit and picked on to eat next. It had been awhile since she had a juicy piece of fruit since she wasn't much of a sweet tooth. Eating the fruit, she was delighted that it was a good piece of fruit and enjoyed the flavours. "Hmmm, this is so good! Where did you get the food?" Dreidi asked, curious if it was local or not.

Her guitar was laid down next to her with her music sheets on top, her eyes were drawn to them as she felt her mind wanting to sort them out while also wanting to just relax and not worry about finding rhyme.

Lailya Solus Lailya Solus

"Mm... Lots of reasons, I think. I know... I know the Confederate attack on Taanab is a big one for Clan Tal. We have a lot of Echani living with us on Vanquo, but they don't have fond opinions of the Confederacy or any Mandalorians outside of Clan Solus either. They only listen to my Buir though."

Taking a bite of her sandwich, Lailya wondered just how different the news of things Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic heard was from her own. Looking back to the other girl, Lailya drank a gulp of her tea before thinking on where exactly she had gotten it.

"Uhm... I forget the name of the place, but it was this kind of... cozy old-style store, with a bakery attached to it. The old lady running it told me they get all the produce and jams from a local farm, just outside the city. I can probably find the way back if I try hard enough though, if you want to check it out later?"

Dreidi looked more puzzled, Echani not a fan of the Confederacy, all she heard about was how CIS liberated Eshan from Mandalorian Empire control. Especially since the Mandalorians were apparently harming Echani that did not conform, but these were rumours and stories from within the Confederacy, the truth of them might not have been as legitimate as Dreidi believed. "I don't know, I just was told that Eshan was ravaged by Mandalorians and Kashyyyk was frequently attacked by Mandalorians, I remember my mother telling me when my father went outside and had to protect our home from Mandalorians trying to kill us. So, I just believed that Confederacy were right in their distrust of Mandalorians, especially Mandalorians that followed a certain Mandalore."

She finished her sandwich and sighed, she didn't want to seem like she was distrustful of Lailya, Lailya seemed friendly and nice, just hearing explosions, gunfire and tales of people risking their lives to protect your homeworld from specific intruders repeatedly stuck in your mind. "I don't mean disrespect to you, your... bui.... buir?" Dreidi attempting to pronounce the Mandoa'a word. It was not the best but she was trying for her new friend. "Oh, the bakery doesn't sound too far from where I stay. Must check it out when I get a chance!" Dreidi commented, hoping to swiftly move on from the politics and war talk.

Lailya Solus Lailya Solus

"Mm... I don't know a whole lot about it, just some passing comments from the Echani living with us. Grown ups like to hide things from kids. Buir doesn't like to talk about it much, since... Well. She kind of... Got blown up? I think? She has a bunch of cool scars on her left side though!"

Finishing her own sandwich with a shrug, Lailya pondered over what facts were hidden from Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic and herself from the grown ups. What was that saying? The victors write the history? Oh well. Lailya fixed herself another sandwich, and took a sip of her tea, before smiling reassuringly at Dreidi.

"Oh you're fine! My Buir wouldn't mind, she's really nice and forgiving. A lot of other Mandalorians think she's weird for it, but they respect her a lot for what she's able to do. As for the bakery, you should definitely visit it some time! I like going to smaller businesses when I visit places off of Vanquo. The people tend to be nicer, usually, but especially at this one. The lady that was working gave me a couple slices of strawberry shortcake for free when I told her I was having myself a picnic! I think her name was... Ellis? She gave me a strong grandma feeling."

Dreidi nodded her head, seemed like they were both unsure what others were really thinking, just rumours and tidbits that would offer a chance for anyone to make mistakes or misinterpretations. It was frustrating that adults would hide things from people, it could lead to massive mistakes and wars like the ones that they were currently in. Perhaps the "Man" was just adults in general and that Dreidi should rebel against them all. Dreidi thought about how someone could have cool scars, she wasn't sure there was such a thing, scars were signs of battling and getting hurt. Dreidi never wanted to get hurt, to be skilled enough that no one could permanently harm her. Perhaps an arrogant notion but one she had.

"Yeah, war can be tricky. I tend to avoid getting into combat." Dreidi mentioned, she wasn't scared or a coward, just felt that her skills were severely lacking in every form of combat that she had been in as of late so avoiding the fight till she was stronger only made sense in her mind. Taking some more food, Dreidi ate slowly.

"Hmmm, haven't been but usually my Master buys food and makes meals for me." Dreidi confessed, she wasn't much of a cook herself and hadn't really taken any of the lessons that her father or Master attempted to teach her around baking.

Lailya Solus Lailya Solus

"Buir never really took me anywhere dangerous intentionally, but my Ba'Vodu Sterling would take me hunting, sometimes! Never for Scriosar though. Only a few members of Clan Solus go after those things, since they're so aggressive."

Finishing off the sandwich, Lailya chased it down with a gulp of tea. Looking away from Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic , she pondered on if she'd ever be strong enough to take a Scriosar on. Her attention was grabbed by the other girl mentioning her Master making meals for her. Did Dreidi not know how to cook? What kind of childhood did Dreidi have where she didn't learn how to cook?!

"Really? Has your Master not taught you how to cook? Also, cake? I don't think I can eat both slices by myself!"

Reaching into the basket again, Lailya pulled out two small brown boxes, tied closed with pink lace ribbon. Setting one down closer to Dreidi, Lailya untied the ribbon on hers carefully, and put the ribbon back in the basket before pulling out two forks. Opening the box, the sweet smell of vanilla and strawberry wafted through the air.

"Ellis told me the cakes were made fresh this morning, so they should be pretty good!"

Nodding her head, Dreidi could understand not wanting to take someone into a dangerous situation with wild beasts. She had only been in combat because as a Jedi she needed to help people in that situation. It was difficult for her to just sit out and hear about the chaos that goes on, Dreidi felt a strong desire to help balance this out in the galaxy, in Confederacy space. "That's fair enough, maybe one day in the future if you want to get one?" Offering a warm smile.

Then the questioning of Dreidi's inability to cook came up, she didn't realise that her not being able to cook would be such an issue, it wasn't like she was an adult and dependent on other people for food? "Well, she has tried to teach me but doesn't go well. Did you know it was possible to burn something, it still be raw and be freezing cold all at once?" Dreidi hinting at how poorly her cooking lessons went.

Taking a piece of cake, Dreidi ate a small amount, then grabbed her guitar. Strumming a few notes as she closed her eyes and attempting to imagine the notes in her mind, the beat was slowed down to the style she would normally play but this was a different sound of the song she was working on. "Sorry, promised to do some practice and thought I might have had some inspiration.
