Lumi Snow

The doctor pulled back and watched as Ryn tried to move around--and the inevitable shock that followed after surgery and his continued injuries resulted in his collapse. He suddenly went cold--it was not like she couldn't see him anymore, but he became even dimmer than before. Almost--almost non-existant. Lumi grit her teeth in furstraiton, he was trying to hide something or hide himself and that was.... well, strange. And irritating.

The doctor heard the sound of the feline type-creature cough.

"He has lost blood, through the lungs, probably cause--" LAINA explained from Lumi's earpiece.

The Doctor quickly retrieved a linen from a nearby table, "I am going to have to ask you to calm down, Mr. Dhal, your going to do more damage now than I can replair if you keep this up. I am a doctor, not a miracle worker."

Then she felt his colors again, flying through the air like glittering sparks. She could smell freshly baked bread, the smell of grass, the feeling of rolling down a grassy hill. Rolling, rolling, rolling.... Lumi could feel herself get dizzy and nauseous. She gripped the metallic table and braced herself to keep form falling over. The doctor shook herself back into the moment.

"--and for saving me," he said.

She blinked twice and managed a smile, "N-no problem, not at all. It's what doctors do, after all."

The ambulance came to a halt.

"We have arrived," LAINA chimed over the speakers of the speeder.

She heard the door open automatically and felt the fresh air on her face.

"Come along," she said walking toward her ship, "let's get you something to eat."

She wasn't about to warn him against the dangers of walking again. His Force, or whatever he called it, would take care of itself, she was sure. Inside, she led him to the compact messhall. It was designed just for her and a few others perhaps.

"I must ask you not to touch anything," the doctor said slightly cheerfully as she moved in the kitchenette, "I know where everything is in this room, moving it well," she chuckled, 'That could be dangerous," she fished out a can of packaged avian meats, "I can't distinguish which feline race you are by smell alone--and your breathing of course, all felines breath at the same purrlike frequency--however I am sure you will find this ameciable," She set the packaged meat on one end of the small metallic table in the center of the room. She withdrew too cans of mixed juices and a slice of multi-vitamin bread for herself from the pantry before sitting.

"I would say a job well done," she commented before breaking off a piece of her wonder bread.

He felt that the door was about to open before it did. His mask and hood were in place in a blur of motion. He would then quietly follow the Doctor into the mess hall. A soft smirk cut across his face as he heard her joke directed at her physical limitation. It made him feel a pang of guilt, as he could relate, to an extent, with his abnormality being his own personal limitation.

"You can smell that I am a felinoid? Interesting.... I had heard that the loss of a sense causes others to improve, but I often take other humanoids for granted in some of their natural facilities, I must confess...." He'd say, as he took a seat across from her. Seeing that they were alone, he'd remove his mask, though his hood remained up. "Truth be told, I didn't know what race I was growing up.... It wasn't until within the past year that I finally met another like myself, and learned of my kind." His voice trailed off wistfully, before shaking his head clear, returning to the present.

"Then again, being born a freak, and sold to some Hutts for entertainment purposes tends to make it difficult to trace ones lineage...."

Lumi smirked as she munched on her bread.

She offered him the can of avian meats and smiled, "I understand, to a degree. Most of the blind are born without eyes or have an accident in their lifes, I was--well not,"

She swallowed the bit of food in her mouth and cleared her throat, "I was born on a planet still lost in time. We had our first contact with the outside worlds in hundreds of years when [member="Gray Raxis"] landed, but that is another story," she chuckled, "I was born blind, but different. My abilities to see the world and into minds made many scared of me. I was shunned for, well my whole life from fear." The doctor calmly took a drink

of her canned juice before continuing. "I do not hold it against them, they didn't understand. They were scared that I was a threat. It was only when the world was opened to the rest of the galaxy that the truth became apparent; I was born without ocular lobes. However, my brain matter is, as best the doctors can say is 'different' along my sympathetic and Central nervous systems," she chuckled, 'But that is a bit TOO much, there now isn't it?"

He smiled sadly. He actually felt her pain from her childhood. In some respects, it was not much different than his own, as far as his interactions with other children growing up. He took some of the meat, chewing thoughtfully. He realized he did need the nourishment, as it had been quite a while since he last ate. After a few bites, he'd clear his throat. "Are you familiar with the Felacatian people?" He'd ask, curiously. "They're not like the Felinian, the Fras, Tinnell, Cantrosian, or even the Cathar, though all possess various feline traits..."

He looked across the table at the Doctor, contemplating his words before continuing. "I am a Felacatian. Though, unlike the rest of my kind, whom, aside from our tails, and a few minor feline traits, are significantly more humanoid in appearance and nature. I, however, through a genetic anomaly, was born with exaggerated feline traits. My ears... My face... my eyes and my fur... All unnatural to my kind. I believe it was part of why I was sought after by the Hutt who bought me, and why I was sold to begin with." His voice caught in his throat momentarily as he finished his sentence. A quick cough was given to clear his throat. "But.... that was a long.... long time ago...." He'd mutter, his attention returning to the meat in his hand, as he tore off another bite, falling silent once more.

Felacatians. The word was familiar enough to Lumi. Her mind went rapidly over the basics that she had learned from the books of her medical studies--and the information she had picked up from the minds of others. She wasn't about to tell Ryn that her abilities extended to that, or that she couldn't really see much but was purely telepathic. That would be too much for him all at once, and of course, made many beings uncomfortable.

"I am not an expert on the race, but I know a thing or two," she answered. She heard him eating the meal up and smirked slightly. The sound of his sudden increase in appetite said it all; Doctor knows best.

"I see," she said again. "Its not always fun being different. Wrong? No, not as much, but enjoyable, no. It comes with benefits, and its downfalls, I do wish that beings would come to understand that its not what is on the outside that matters, but," she tapped her chest, "well, you know the old saying. I suppose its easier for someone who can't see, huh?" she chuckled before breaking off a bit of the bread again and chewing it up. "Let me show you something."

The Doctor set a small holoprojector on the center of the table before tapping the top of her glove, "You can come out now, don't be shy."

"But what if I want to stay here and observe more?" LAINA asked in Lumi's earpiece.

"No, silly girl, come out and play," Lumi shook her head.

The Holocron lit up with a figure of a woman, well dressed with neatly groomed long hair down her back. She wore businesslike but simple clothing, lacking much decorum.

"Hello, Ryn," the figure said politely, "I am LAINA, Lumi's Artificially Inteligent Nanoprocessing Assistant. I am not sure why the Mistress brought me out, I feel she is showing off."

"Oh hush," Lumi said with a shake of hear head, "What would you know about showing off?"

"Quite a bit, Mistress, considering--"

Lumi silenced her with a wave of her hand, "LAINA was created to serve. To help the blind, and is one of the most advanced AI's ever made. While her whole processor is too expensive for mass use, and its upkeep is extensive, the parts of her code are being put to good use for the disabled. I never would have been able to make this if I were a *normal* person," the doctor paused, collecting her thoughts and taking off another piece of bread, "I suppose what I am trying to say is sometimes being different is not that bad after all."

[member="Ryn'Dhal"]

"In some areas, yes.... Being 'different' can bring great benefit.... But...." He hesitated, before tossing the last little bit of his meal down the hatch. "Being tortured.... abused.... and passed around as a cheap form of entertainment.... It's demeaning for anyone.... But, seeing the resentment at the perceived special treatment you're supposedly receiving, on the faces of your peers, only compounds upon the mental and emotional pain of my youth...."

His gaze lowered once more to the table, as he closed those large, golden eyes again, taking a long, low, steadying breath. He'd then decide to shift gears in conversation. "Perhaps.... a new subject.... I can sense you are gifted.... with what some might consider.... 'unnatural' sight." He'd attempt to keep his words as diplomatic as possible. "I just cannot discern if you can see the Force, like.... say.... the Miraluka can.... or, do you perceive emotions? Or even telepathy.... I am intrigued, and to be quite honest, as I believe we worked well enough together in that village, if perhaps we were to work together further, maybe your gifting would be complimented by my own, and vice-versa?" He'd inquire, his head angling in an obviously feline manner, ears cocking slightly as they were want to do, angling this way and that, independent of each other, as he constantly kept track of various noise sources.

"If..... I spoke out of turn..... please forgive me....." He'd amend after the fact, his ears dropping slightly in an almost submissive, or apologetic manner.

Lumi blinked. Well he was, forthcoming in his questions. She could at least appreciate his honesty. It did save time and showed a sense of trust.

"I do not know exactly what it would be called," Lumi confessed, "but I possess a large measure of telepathy," she swallowed, "Skin contact makes it--uncontrolable to say the least. So I try to cover my whole body and keep from that. Generally I stay out of people's minds. It scares them and its rude to pry.

"But I can feel emotions as well. Pains. Hurts. Joys. All of it like lanterns in darkness. Can I *see* per se?" the doctor paused, trying to find the exact answer. "No."

She smirked and shook her head feeling his withdraw and placification.

"Your a good man," she said, speaking her mind. "I can see that. Feel that. Of course I wouldn't mind your assistance. I'm just trying to make the galaxy a better place, I wouldn't say no to more help in that. What would you want me to help you do, exactly?"

(100th post. Woo!!)

Smiling at her response, he could only shake his head slightly. "It is not so much what you could do to help me, but more what could I do to help you." His musical voice danced forth again. "I am a simple Jedi. I seek to learn, to help, and to grow. I do not have any particular agenda or mission.... But, I simply wish to help. Where I can, and however I may."

His hand's would splay, though the visual of his motion would be lost on Lumi, the emotive display of submission, of a willingness to serve and help, would be obvious to her unnatural sight. "Your heart is a good one, a giving one. I can find myself more than willing to align myself with that."
