"Can you guys bring the kids to the table? Dinner is ready."

Valery's humming, while she was cooking, had helped keep the kids calm in the living room. It was an old Keshian melody that she used whenever they struggled to sleep, but she sang or hummed it whenever she was doing something around the house as well. Normally, it was the case for other chores because Kahlil was the better chef between them, but after the mission with Shan and getting infected, she insisted that they took it easy and watched the little ones. Vera was drawing, Aurra was looking at pictures in her book, Adam was slamming away on his mini-keyboard and Aeryn... was the only difficult one.

She was either throwing around toys or trying to crawl to places she shouldn't.

When Shan and Kahlil had finally brought all the kids over to sit down, Valery presented several plates with traditional Epicanthix meals she had learned from others in town. A lot of dishes with meats and vegetables to keep it healthy — something that made sense for a warrior culture.

"Shan, you did very good," Vera said suddenly, as she stared at the Mirialan boy.

Valery perked a brow, glanced over at her husband, and just chuckled.

"Was it scary?"

"Sure! It's no problem!"

Shan had been surprised by the Noble kids, if he was being honest. They weren't as bad as he expected a bunch of kids to be, though it was annoying trying to get them together for the meal. "Come on. Let's go and get some of that yummy food. You can look at your pictures afterwards! And hey, I might help with your music!" He felt like he was trying too hard to get along with the kids, but there was a part of him that was afraid of them not liking him, even if it was a very irrational fear at the end of the day. They seemed amazing to Shan!

"I'll be at the table...Just erh...gimme a second!" Even if this wasn't his house, Shan still felt responsible for trying to tidy up, so he went around grabbing the toys that Aeryn had thrown around so he could neatly put them away, even though they'd be getting thrown around after food more than likely. It was just a way for him to keep busy at the same time.

After that, he hurried off to the table, half expecting a scolding from Valery or Kahlil. He was meant to be relaxing, but it was hard for him to relax if he wasn't doing something at the same time. He had to keep moving to relax. Though he tilted his head at the sight of the food on the table. Shan wasn't entirely used to eating meat. He had seen it around a couple of times, but he had always been more of a veggie fan, or some kind of artifical food so this was a nice surprise.

What was a very shocking surprise was the way Vera just stared at him and told him he had done a good job. His eyes darted over towards Valery and Kahlil for a moment, giving a nervous chuckle before looking back at the young Noble. Did he want to seem cool in front of them? Or be honest?...Well, Shan was always a fan of honesty being the best policy.

"It was...very scary. I underestimated how it was going to be...but your mother and father helped keep me safe. They're both great people, but I'm sure you know that already."

Kahlil was half there with the kids and Shan. With Aurra in his lap he focused on the datapad in his hands, going over the details of the Sithspawn. How it was transformed was still a mystery, but he was piecing together the genetic code of who he was prior. At least they could tell him, but the actual process of reversing it wasn't an easy thing in the slightest. Even when they finished, he doubted they'd get it perfect.

You couldn't scoop out the exact same water you dumped into an ocean.

He glanced up as the call for food was given out before clicking off the screen to pick up the little one with a smile. He helped get the triplets settled before sitting himself, nodding. "Shan did great. He saved me, as I'm sure you know already, mm?"

Valery was definitely not going to scold Shan for helping with the kids or cleaning up something around the house. On the contrary, she offered him a warm smile when he sat down and turned her eyes to Kahlil after that. Once he was seated, she took off her apron and held up her hands, "Dig in. I've made enough for us all and more, so don't be shy and grab whatever you like," she said with a grin.

It wasn't Kahlil's cooking, but she still loved to cook too, so she felt confident they'd love it.

But as they all got seated to eat, attention was quickly drawn to Vera, who was staring at Shan and questioning him the way she always did after her visions. Valery smirked, watched, and just listened to the conversation. "Mommy and Daddy are the best, but you did very good too," she said with a nod for her father.

She had seen it.

"Do you like being a Jedi? And who is that other girl I saw you fighting that other time?"

Valery perked a brow, took another bite, and was very interested in hearing what this was all about.

Shan focused on his food at first, digging as much as he could. There were a few hisses from him grabbing the food straight away, before deciding it would be better to wait for it to cool down, or use some cutlery to eat. He wasn't too sure how table manners should work, but grabbing at the food probably wasn't the best of ideas as he ate away. He got ready to answer Vera's first question...but then she asked the second question, and Shan nearly choaked on his food, having to cough a few times to clear his throat.

"I'll...erh...answer your first question, first." Did he enjoy being a Jedi? That was a more difficult question than he had thought it would have been. He had been challenged, more times than he thought he would be. And the challenges had been more difficult than he had expected. Talking to people, meeting different cultures, being shot at, being stabbed at, being...whatever the verb for having tentacles thrown at you was. But at the same time, he had been able to help so many more people than he ever had done when he lived on Nar Shaddaa. The plague victims from the Sithspawn, the disease that he helped deal with Master Serys...And then the refugees that he helped to protect. "...I do like being a Jedi. It's hard, and not as easy as I thought it would be. But it's all worth it. It's worth it to see the relief and hope in the faces of the people I've helped."

Though now it came to the second question, which Shan could see that Valery seemed interested in. Now, he wasn't sure what to say exactly. It was a bit of an embarrassing situation for him in his head...but Vera had somehow seen it, and he had no clue how, not knowing that she had some ability to see things. "I don't know her name...She was hurting some people I was meant to protect. Made me have to hurt one of the people I was trying to protect..." Even now, Shan still felt bad about having to knock out the woman, but it was better than causing her lasting harm. "She tried to hurt me as well. She did hurt me, with lightning. But she also tried to hurt my head. But your mommy's lessons helped to protect me. And your daddy's lessons helped me as well...I don't know where the girl went though. I disarmed her, and offered to heal her, but she ran away instead...I was nearly a bad person like her though..."

A small frown came across Shan's face as he said the last part. It was mostly him referring to when he had almost decided to strike Nyaeli down when he had disarmed her, but he shook his head, trying not to focus on that. Instead he tried to focus on Nyaeli, wondering what she was doing in the galaxy now. Was she still with the Sith? Or had she found somewhere else in the Galaxy to cause chaos? He wasn't sure...but he couldn't let himself dwell on that.

Kahlil raised a brow as he listened between bites of his food. Smiled, even, with it. That was Vera, going right for the throat. "You did what you could." And not what he couldn't. Killing someone wasn't an easy thing to do, and he was genuinely glad Shan hadn't done so. He didn't need to bloody his hands like that. He glanced briefly to Valery, giving her a nod of approval for her food before smirking.

She was a good cook.

"Being a Jedi is never easy, that's true. But it is a good path."

Now this is getting interesting.

Similar to when Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania had visited for dinner, Vera was going straight for the kill with Shan as well. Innocently so, but something told Valery that her daughter knew exactly what she was doing. She was getting older, after all, and she was pretty clever for her age too. But Vera never asked these questions because she just wanted to make someone feel terrible — she was genuinely just curious about Shan and how he felt about a lot of things.

The answers that she got made Valery listen intently too. He had battled a Sith and spared their life? Many years ago, Valery wouldn't have agreed with that, but considering who she had married, and the impact he had on her life... she smiled. Shan really had so much good in him, and all that she really worried about was it being used against him one day. With a Master like Kahlil, that hopefully could all be prevented.

"You're not a bad person, and maybe you can help her again in the future!" Vera smiled, and Valery had that proud mother grin on her face before she turned to Kahlil and picked up on his approval of her cooking. Now Valery was all smiles and sat happily while they talked and ate together.

"Since it's quite late, why don't we have Shan stay here with us after dinner? He can take the guest room, and we'll head to New Cov in the morning to check on our new guest there?" She asked as she looked between the two.

"Can I play with Shan until bedtime?!" Vera was quick to add in.

Shan let out a small sigh as Vera said he might be able to help Nyaeli in the future. The young Mirialan staring off into the distance as he nibbled at the food, getting lost in his own thoughts. He really hoped he could help Nyaeli in the future. The fact she ran away instead of attacking him when he let his guard down made him believe there was some good in her...He knew he was a gullible person however. He knew not everyone had good in them, but that wouldn't stop him from trying to hold out on hope.

"Maybe I will be able to help her in the future. I just need to see her again. Always going to do my best to try and help everyone I can, if they're hurting." And in his eyes? Nyaeli had been hurting. Hard. Sure, maybe he was just imagining that but Nyaeli had just seemed afraid to him and it was in his eyes, his responsibility to try and help her. She was his responsibility now, he had let her live, and now anything she does would be on his shoulders.

There was a small sense of pride however when Kahlil had said that he had done what he could have. Even though Shan could have went further, he had held himself back. It was just another reminder to him that he shouldn't go into a battle with the intent to kill or to cause pain. Every battle he took part in has to be to protect something or someone. That's what he was at his best, not at random battles that had no real meaning to them...Hm, perhaps that's what the meaning behind the Echani's fighting was...

Though he was brought back into reality when Vera asked if he could play with her before it was bed time, and Shan just gave a quick nod at that.
"I'd love to. I'm already enjoying spending time with you guys. I never had any siblings, so I've never really gotten to hang out with younger people." And it was honestly something Shan did enjoy. The innocence and happiness helped remind him why he wanted to be a Jedi. Why he wanted to help people!

"That works for me, though I'd like to leave first thing. He's been waiting long enough." He being the Sithspawn. He chuckled a little to himself, shaking his head. In all the excitement he'd completely forgotten to to ask for the man's name. It was something he'd rectify one they made it to New Cov, that much he was certain of. He smiled though, glancing to the triplets before nodding to Shan.

"You're always welcome here, you know. In case you feel the need or want to visit."

"Yay! I'll show you Fuzzy and the plushies," Vera said with a grin, and the triplets squealed along with their sister's joy. They loved it whenever Cora, Colette, Capris, or other Padawans came home to play or just talk, and Shan would be another who they'd love to see more of.

There was no escaping it now for him.

"We'll leave early," Valery then said with a dip of her head meant for her husband. "I'm sure we'll be able to make some good progress if we're well-rested and take our time there." She smiled warmly but blinked when the little ones began to make strange noises. They obviously weren't eating dinner — they were babies — but if they were hungry, it meant Valery was going to have to feed them too.

"Well, I'll go handle them. Why don't you two spend a little time with Vera and then get ready for bed? If we're leaving early, we shouldn't make it too late."

"Plushies?! Oh wow! I've never seen any of those before." Shan gave his own little grin in response to Vera's. He had never actually had his own teddies or plushies, so he was actually eager to see Vera's. It was like he was a big kid all over again! He didn't even think about wanting to escape the kids! They might be louder than he was used but at the end of the day he was going to love it the more he spent time with the family! He was going to do his best to make sure they had the time of their lives whenever he was around...Though the triplets probably wouldn't remember.

Though he did turn his head over towards Valery when he spoke to Kahlil about helping the Sithspawn, causing his grin to fall ever so slightly. It felt wrong to him to feel so happy with people like the Sithspawn being the Galaxy...but it was like what Kahlil and Valery had said to him earlier. He had to focus on himself sometimes, otherwise he wouldn't be able to relax and enjoy the little things in life.

"Come on Master Kahlil. We can see Fuzzy and the plushies." He broke out into his grin once more at the idea of spending time with Vera and Kahlil. This was the experience he always wanted with his own family and since he can't get it with them...Well, the nobles were far better than anything he could have expected.

Vera was literally bouncing in her seat when Shan showed this much excitement about the plushies and playing with her and her siblings. It made her smile brightly, which in turn made Valery very happy. One by one, she collected the triplets and after taking the last of them, she kissed Vera on her forehead and Kahlil as well, before turning to Shan.

"Very glad to have you here with us, Shan, and like my husband said, you're always welcome to visit. We'll get you a key too." She chuckled and finally left to feed the babies somewhere private.

"Well, you heard mom. Tell us, oh wise Vera, what are we to do next? What plans do you have in mind for us?"

Vera grinned, "It's good that you ask!" She hopped out of her chair, grabbed her dad's hand, and pulled him along until they passed by Shan, who was getting snatched along all the same. She dragged them to her bedroom, which had plushies of all sizes, of all well-known animals in the Galaxy.

In the middle of the pile, laying lazily on his back, was her companion Fuzzy - the Racyon.

"We have to get Fuzzy and the plushies ready for bed."

"I would happily visit again. If you ever need someone to babysit, I'll always offer up the chance to spend more time with them." Shan kept a wide grin on his face at that. It would help to get him out of spending most of his time training or studying. He knew it wasn't great choice at the end of the day, but studying and training was what he enjoyed to do. He just gave Valery a small little wave as the Jedi Master went off to deal with the triplets and turned his attention over towards Kahlil and Vera instead!

Before he was suddenly dragged off towards Vera's bedroom, having not expected to be dragged off straight away. His eyes darted around the room, taking in the sight of all the plushies. Ironically he was more intrigued in those, than he was by the Raycon. He had been to Utakis, so the Raycons weren't anything new to him...but the plushies were!

"So...How are we going to put them to bed?" How do you even put plushies to sleep? Weren't they already asle-...Oh. Vera wanted them to imagine it. Imagination. That made sense. The plushies weren't actually awake. He could pretend to imagine about that! He just rubbed his hands together, ready to leave Fluffy to the other two.

"You're welcome to if you'd like, but don't feel like you have to. We're pretty lucky with all manner of folks who've offered to take care of them." Kahlil offered a brief smile. Shan was still young, but perhaps it would be good for him to watch the kids. If anything it'd help with his patience, if that was even a problem for him to begin with. There was still some learning for them both on how their relationship as Master and Padawan would work.

"It does look like Fuzzy is already fast asleep, though. Should we really move him?"

"He's faking it."

Vera walked over to Fuzzy, squinted, and gently poked into his stomach to tickle her friend. The Racyon immediately flailed its limbs around and ran over to the bed, where it jumped up and down with an annoyed look before it lazily plopped down again on the pillows. "See? He's just lazy!" Vera giggled and snatched her favorite plushie from the pile — her teddy bear called Eddie. Then she took the tauntaun and Nexu and offered them to Shan before walking over to her bed.

She put Eddie down on the pillow and then pointed at the end of her bed, where the other plushies were meant to be. "I keep them there," she said with a smile.

Vera then crawled into bed and looked expectingly at her father. She wasn't sleeping before getting a goodnight hug and kiss from him.

"I'd love to. It's a good use of my time, as opposed to me just...studying." Patience was something Shan was already quite good in. It's part of why he enjoyed using Soresu. It played to his strengths of patience and wanting to focus on being defensive. But he didn't want to think about fighting right now. He was meant to be relaxing with Vera and Kahlil instead.

Though the sight of the flailing raycon caused Shan to break out into a fit chuckles.
"Looks like Fluffy is a great actor. Maybe he could put on a play for all of your plushies on another day?" He just gave the idea of a little imagination game that Vera could probably play with her plushies as he took the tauntaun and Nexu plushies...giving the pair a big squeeze. They were softer than he had expected. Now he saw what he was missing out on by not having had any plushies of his own.

He hurried on over with the two plushies, gently placing them on Vera's bed. He wasn't sure how to place them, so he just laid them down on their sides to try and make it seem like they were asleep as well. He felt like a kid all over again, and he was actually enjoying it. It was a nice break from what had felt like constant chaos and darkness.

Kahlil chuckled as he watched. For the most part he just stuck to the back to watch Shan and Vera with a smile on his face. This was a good sight. Heart warming. Shan seemed to take to it himself, which only made him wonder what the boys own family was like. Were they dead? Distant? Just as warm as Valery and Kahlil had been? Modern day Jedi had the most diverse connections to their families after all.

He gives hugs and tucks her in for the night, as any good father would.

"We'll see you in the morning, little star."

"His name is fuzzy!" Vera called out when Shan called him Fluffy instead. "But that would be fun!" She giggled at Shan's idea and watched him put the other plushies down on her bed with a bright smile. Now she was ready for bed, and with her dad coming over to tuck her in and give her a goodnight hug, she'd be fast asleep in no time.

Kahlil and Shan then left for their own rooms and slept until the next morning.

...
"Alright, you two got everything?" Valery asked after pausing by the door. "It's a decent journey, but we should arrive early enough, given the rotation of the planet." She grinned, opened up the door, and brought them outside, where the Bastion was already waiting for them.

Sassshra would meanwhile be watching over the kids, and others were always just one call away from reaching the kids to help them too, if necessary. It made traveling away from home a lot less stressful.

"Can you fly us there, love?"

"He's a fuzzy fluffy!" Shan called out back towards Vera, keeping a little cheeky grin on his face. He gave each of the plushies a little headpat, and just waved at Vera and Fuzzy. He didn't want to give them headpats in case one of them tried to bite his fingers off. Instead, he left alongside Kahlil to go to bed, eagerly awaiting the next day. He got to spend time with the Noble kids, and now he was going to be able to help someone else...or well, watch Kahlil help them since Shan wasn't going to be able to do much.

----

He was double checking to make sure he had everything in the morning, patting down his clothes. Lightsaber on his belt? Check. His satchel with medical equipment?...not check. He left that at the temple but he knew that anyway. He'd have been confused if he did have it somehow. Instead he hurried off to follow Valery and Kahlil towards the Bastion. It was going to be a lot more enjoyable this time, or at least Shan assumed it was going to be more enjoyable, since he should be able to relax and watch as they flew, instead of helping to fly the ship.

But it also meant his mind could wander onto different thoughts...How could they help this Sithspawn? Would anyone even accept the Sithspawn back into society? There were so many questions that were floating around in his head but that could wait until they've actually done the job of helping it. For now, Shan had to just enjoy the relaxation. No point stressing about the future, live in the moment.
