Kahlil stared at Valery as they ran, before letting out a sigh.

"Fine. But you stay back, Shan."

He didn't think there'd be a peaceful ending to this. Hopefully there would, but he wasn't going to bet the life of a Padawan on it. He squinted as they came upon the burned parts of the forest. Yeah, there was little chance of peace. They were getting closer and closer, their mad dash through the forest now easier thanks to the burned ground. Ironic for certain. And it helped them track them down.

"Rhis! Stop this!"

What was it worth for him to reach the Sithspawn?

Everything.

This scourge only sullied the Galaxy and the Force with its presence. No doubt he’d be persecuted by his peers, and he did not care. Rhis would do what he must; like the time when he massacred the hapless Sith on Korriban decades ago, years before the rise of the Maw. All in the name to bring peace to the Galaxy and serve the will of the Force.

And now finally, after a long chase, he was nearing the monster. The Sithspawn was at a stop as the Nautolan stepped through the thick flora. Nowhere else to run as the path was a dead end.

“Finally,” he called out to the creature, feeling its fear for…what? Its life? Of what value was it to the common good? Nothing, not even an ounce. It was unique in its nature, Rhis would admit; but it was akin to the rest of the experiments born from the ill will of the Sith.

"Rhis! Stop this!"

Kahlil’s words echoed through the vines of the jungle, trying to save this perversion before Rhis. He scoffed before igniting the emerald blade of his lightsaber. Like before he struck the earth and through the Force gave life to another fire, one spreading in a semi circle to prevent the Sithspawn to escape and the others to interfere. It would push back into the forest to slow down the Nobles and the Padawan.

The Jedi spared not another word as he approached the Sithspawn with his lightsaber ready to strike it down.

"Fine. But you stay back, Shan."

Valery narrowed her eyes a little, but didn't argue against what he said this time. She just looked at Shan, nodded, and placed a hand on his shoulder one more time before running ahead again. She'd make sure to keep him safe through all of this, no matter what happened next. But deep down, she really hoped they could get out of this situation without having to fight another Jedi. The Galaxy had enough conflict already — they couldn't turn against each other now.

Even if Rhis was a very... isolated case.

"Up ahead!" Valery called out, as she watched a ring of fire ignite to trap the Sithspawn. Luckily, Valery was able to tap into flames herself, and raised a hand to manipulate the fire. Her eyes began to glow for just a moment, and a path opened for Kahlil and Shan to get through first. She'd join them after, but she had to get them through to stop Rhis before it was too late.

The Sithspawn had no way out.

Shan just kept running as fast as his legs could carry him. He had no clue how they were going to deal with this situation, or well what he could even do to help the situation but they needed to protect the Sithspawn. It wasn't the enemy for once, far from it. It just felt strange to him, to think that a Jedi was the one they were going up against. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't afraid. In fact, he might be more afraid of Rhis than he had been of the Sithspawn. He shook his head, and just focused on running, seeing the ring of fire ahead of them. Why did it always have to be fire?! Why burn the planet?!

He rushed through once Valery had made an opening for both him and Kahlil, taking a look around, only to see Rhis with his saber, ready to strike down the Sithspawn. "No! Don't do it! This isn't the way!" Shan didn't expect his words to do anything but fall on deaf ears, but he had to make some kind of verbal attempt before he did anything else...

Which he resorted to rather quickly, trying to focus on his Force training. Pushing the waves of the Force as he saw it, to try and shore up against the Sithspawn, in an attempt to try and give it a barrier. Though a strike at full strength would still be able to go through the barrier, that's why Shan resorted to his other action. Holding out his right hand to try and pull the Force towards him, trying to pull on Rhis' lightsaber in an attempt to at least slow down the attack. It felt wrong to attack a Jedi in his eyes...but if he had to fight, he was going to do it.

More fire.

Kahlil's eyes narrowed as he sprinted forward regardless of it. He didn't worry, because Valery would handle it. They already knew. Grant it, Shan also rushed in. For a moment he felt a mix of emotion. He didn't want the Padawan to rush into the literal flames.

But he didn't blame the boy for doing it. Hell, he felt proud that he was so willing to help. So he reached out to help him in turn. He pushed through the Force to solidify the barrier, enhancing it with another of his adapted Sith runes. He doubted Rhis would listen to him regardless, but perhaps he would listen to the Padawan. It was that, or they'd have no choice but to fight.

"No! Don't do it! This isn't the way!"

Naïve child. Thinking that life and the Force was simply black and white. Or perhaps the teachings of Kahlil poisoned his mind, leading this unfortunate Padawan to think experimenting with abominations was ethical. If so, why did the former Zambrano hide here with his toys and not perform them in the any of the Jedi Temples in the Alliance? Out of fear that he’d be excommunicated was Rhis’ theory.

An invisible barrier was formed between him and the Sithspawn, creating a friction slowing down his momentum. It didn’t help that something else tried to pull his arm; Shan through the Force creating this nuisance.

My judgment will not be forestalled

A sudden Force push was directed to Master and Apprentice, hoping to break their balance and concentration. Strong enough to also push the violent flames towards Valery and keep her at bay. If so, a tendrils of emerald lightning would come from his fingertips aimed for the Sithspawn. It would burn and be destroyed through Rhis’ sense of justice.

After covering the way forward for Kahlil and Shan, Valery was forced to halt her advance once again. With an outburst in the Force, Rhis directed more flames at the Jedi Master, and while she had no trouble dealing with fire, it slowed her down again. This time, Valery's eyes flashed bright orange, and with a hand coming up, she forced the flames to wrap around her, before she killed them entirely.

"Stop this, Rhis!" Valery called out, hoping to appeal to the fact they had worked together once.

"We've managed to help these Sithspawn here!" Perhaps he knew about the cases where they had been successful, or maybe he didn't at all. Either way, she believed there was still a way out of this. Nobody disagreed that some were beyond help, but could he accept that some could be saved?

Meanwhile, the Sithspawn stood frozen as Rhis made its approach, hoping that the Jedi would be able to stop him. Against the arcs of Emerald Lightning, he had no way to defend himself. Not without fighting back and making things worse.

He couldn't believe what he was watching right now. Rhis was nowhere near what Shan believed a Jedi should be like. When Shan thought of a Sith, Rhis' actions were the kind of thing that would come into his mind. Even so, Shan could never turn his saber against a Jedi. This wouldn't be a spar, if Shan turned his blade on Rhis, it would be more than likely a battle to the death which Shan knew he'd more than likely lose. Of course, Kahlil was next to him so it wasn't like Shan would be alone in the battle but he'd rather not cause any death if he could help it.

Before Shan knew it however, his concentration was broken by a Force Push he hadn't been expecting. Causing the Mirialan to stumble, though as soon as he saw the crackling tendrils of lightning, Shan's body moved before he could think. Reacting on his instincts, he had to protect the Sithspawn as much as he could. Had to pull out everything he knew.

His green blade ignited from his saber, reaching out to try and catch the lightning to try and manipulate it. It was just like with the electric pylon he practiced with Elias. Focus on keeping the lightning moving from one end to the other. Don't let it stay in him. This was exactly why he had wanted to learn how to manipulate electricity! Aiming his off hand in a random direction away from anyone to allow the lightning to shoot off in an alternate direction. The Mirialan was still experiencing pain either way, he wasn't a master at manipulating the current and every so often, there would be a surge of pain through his body when his focus slipped, but he could deal with it.

"The Force...is not black and white...The Sithspawn can be redeemed...The same way...A Jedi can fall to the dark side." He hissed through his teeth, trying his hardest to keep himself standing. He just had to keep the image of what would happen if he gave up in his mind. Shan would rather pass out, than give up on the Sithspawn. He was the one who had told it they meant no harm. That they would help him, and he'd be damned if he wasn't going to try and keep a promise.

He wasn't going to stop.

Kahlil recognized that the moment the emerald lightning ripped out through the air. It wasn't something that could form with doubt or any lack of conviction. Rhis felt he was truly doing something that needed to be done. There was nothing more dangerous than a Jedi who believed that. The only saving grace was Shan seemed to have picked up the ability to redirect such a current.

There was a brief swell of pride for his Padawan, but he didn't let it linger. Kahlil raised a hand, bringing the Force around himself to keep himself from being outright thrown back. He slid across the ground a few feet, but he didn't let it stop him. Valery controlled the flames, Shan defended against the Lightning, so he'd focus on Rhis himself. His blade shut off before a similar, soundless blade replaced it.

He couldn't bring himself to kill Rhis, but he couldn't let this continue. Entropite would at least take him down nonlethally. So Kahlil rushed forward to strike.

Again he was obstructed by his peers. Redirect the current of his lightning away from the Sithspawn. Eventually, he would have to confront his fellow Jedi, but only after he rid of this pestilence. Now they had to be dealt with; otherwise, he could not kill the Sithspawn.

How unfortunate those who swore to uphold the Force with well intentions would want to redeem those who’d fallen to the disgrace of the Darkside. It is because of such inability that countless Sith tyrants exist; taking advantage of the indulgence of goodwill people, betraying the generosity of others just to expand their evil. While he could understand their emotions as he was not void of them, he understood that their compassion deceived them.

He turned around to face his peers, a face of anger and disappointment riddled on his face. Kahlil approached with his lightsaber and Rhis met with his own blade ready to intercept and locked blades with it.

“It appears the apple does not fall far from the tree, Zambrano,” it did not matter how much Kahlil rejected his heritage, one could not ignore the similarities of father and son as no doubt Carnifex enjoyed his sinister experiments much as Kahlil with his own.

“I will not hesitate to maim you all in order to do what is necessary,” and with his might pushed against Kahlil back a few feet before disengaging with his lightsabers. He still faced Kahlil and his apprentice, back still facing the Sithspawn.

“Final warning.”

So much for getting him to stand down.

"You're on your own, and you wouldn't even stand a chance if either of us was had come here alone, Rhis," Valery said flatly as she looked between herself and Kahlil, then back to the Jedi Knight. "The facility you attacked is sanctioned property of the New Jedi Order. The Council and our Jedi have already used it to successfully heal animals tainted by the Dark Side. So we have evidence that what you're doing is wrong." But Valery knew her words wouldn't matter.

His blade had clashed with Kahlil, and now he threatened to cause harm. The threat alone could cause him to be removed from the Jedi, the way others had been after violent incidents against fellow Jedi, but she knew Rhis wouldn't care. He'd always stand behind his cruel ways to bring balance, and right now, it meant they'd have to defeat him first.

So be it.

Two violet blades ignited, and without wasting anymore time, Valery exploded up into the air to close the distance. Like a whirlwind, her blades came crashing down on him, all with the intent to overwhelm and put immense pressure on his defenses. It would hopefully give Shan and Kahlil an opportunity to take him down.

Shan was doing his hardest to protect the Sithspawn, wrapping his hands around the hilt as he was trying to focus. Ignore the fear that was running through his body and focus on the reason he was doing this. To protect. To help. He can't let anyone stop him from that.

He had no unique powers that could help right now. Especially considering he didn't want to turn any lightning against Rhis. At the moment, the Padawan just believed he'd be more of a distraction than an aid to both Kahlil and Valery. If he tried to attack Rhis, it would be easy for him to take Shan apart but he'd need to figure out something he could do. His eyes went to Valery as she came in with her lightsabers. There was a chance for Shan to rush in, but he wasn't going to.

The Padawan turned his attention towards their surroundings instead, focusing on various stones, pebbles and branches as Shan tried to focus on the Force to start lifting them up into the air before just sending a barrage of the stones, pebbles and branches in Rhis' direction. It wasn't exactly going to cause a lot of damage, but Shan hoped it would be enough of a distraction to try and help Valery and Kahlil. Keeping himself alert in case he had to protect himself or the Sithspawn, keeping a hand gripped around his saber.

Kahlil had nothing to add. He leveled his blade, pressed back against Rhis's own. Frowned. He understood the judgement. It had been a long time since he last met someone who judged him on his family, but he did understand it. Perhaps he really should've been making sure he'd been trying to keep understanding the people around him. Reaching out, talking too those who still had these judgements.

He would, after this. For others. Rhis had chosen his path, and Kahlil wasn't going to disrespect him trying to convince him otherwise. Not until the threat to the Sithspawn was no more.

He stepped forward, letting the Force breathe around him as he moved in conjuction with Valery. He trusted Shan to keep the Sithspawn safe while they at least kept Rhis focused. Their bond made it easy for them to fight between each others strikes. When one stepped away, the other stepped right in to keep up the pressure unending.

So be it.

They would stand with the Sithspawn while he stood with his righteous values. They were fools as shepherds; accepting wolves into their flock which would only destroy the Jedi from within.

With a deep breath of air and letting go with a heavy exhale he prepared for what was to come. Valery came down with both of her lightsabers and Rhis did not step back to evade her avalanche. The steadfast warrior he was he instead lunged at her, his momentum meeting hers and clashed with her lightsabers while anticipating for Kahlil. Unlike other Jedi who were too pacified, training themselves to fall back on the defensive in both the Force and their lightsaber combat, Rhis always took initiative on the offensive. As zealous as he was in his crusades of ridding the Dark, so too was his practice with his abilities.

Small pebbles and branches would barrage his person, but Rhis would position himself to have the two Nobles as a shield from the Padawan’s efforts. At all times he’d try to keep then in a linear line. It was always a folly to fight multiple opponents in different positions, but have them lined up and their advantage in numbers would only cause disorder in their tactics. Should he have to fighting in multiple directions he would not hesitate, though conserving energy was a key factor.

With Kahlil stepping in, Rhis met him with ferocity in his style and pushed back. They were still at the cliff of the mountain and he was not going to be cornered. Pushing back on Kahlil and then targeted Valery. He’d fight with randomness and confusion, trying to make them fight on his terms.

With his aggressive stance mixed with a random flow someone was bound to get injured.

Where other Jedi might have struggled to coordinate their efforts fighting the same person, Valery and Kahlil had no such drawback. Whether fighting from the same angle or different ones, their dyad in the Force made them one, allowing strikes and parries to flow together effortlessly. She covered him when needed, he covered her, and together they attacked with intense pressure.

He wasn't going to direct the flow of this fight one bit. This had to be over quickly, and she'd make sure of it.

"You've already failed," she tried to argue. The Sithspawn was alive, the equipment could be replaced, and he was on his own fighting three Jedi. Surely, he had to see the reality of his situation soon enough, right?

She wasn't going to wait on it.

With Rhis pushing back against Kahlil before turning to target her, Valery pressed forward, clearly inviting the challenge. But right as the two Jedi were about to clash, Valery tapped into the Force and changed her body's connection to the world around her at a fundamental level. She phased through both his blade, as well as Rhis himself, and ended up behind him while Kahlil remained in front of him.

Hoping to have used his aggressive momentum against him, Valery quickly turned and lashed out with her blade across his backside. She wasn't aiming to be lethal, but she would not shy away from crippling his ability to fight, or open him up to follow-up attacks from Kahlil and Shan.

Shan could feel his heart racing. The more and more he tried to use the Force to throw pebbles and sticks towards Rhis, the more he just seemed to be getting in the way of things. His saber skills would also get in the way. The Padawan had to think of something to throw into the battle. Something that would catch Rhis off guard. Part of him doubted that someone with Rhis' conviction would just allow themselves to be taken in. It was the kind of thing that scared him, so he had to try and do something before Rhis tried to take them all down with them. He wouldn't put against the Nautolan to try and set them all ablaze.

Which is why whilst Valery and Kahlil were keeping the Jedi busy, Shan went to work with the first plan that popped into his head. Using the Force to pull a series of vines towards him, and he got to work starting to wrap the vines around his waist. Keeping his eyes out to make sure that he wasn't being brought into the duel. This was potentially risky. And most definitely stupid, and Shan knew that, but it was also the kind of thing that he doubted someone would be expecting.

The Padawan took the other end of the vine after tying it around himself and just threw it towards the Sithspawn, as discretely as the Mirialan could. This plan wasn't going to work if he got caught out though, so he also tried to do something he hadn't done before. He focused the Force surrounding him, the familiar presence of it...and started pushing it away. Trying to push it away from him so that it would be harder to take notice of him using the Force. He just hoped the presence of Kahlil and Valery would be able to mask him, as the Padawan prepared himself, watching as Valery phased through Rhis and his blade...That was sweet!

Rhis was attacking aggressively, and Shan was struggling to pick an actual moment to put his plan into action, but once he saw an opening, the Padawan rushed forward with as much strength as he could muster, trying to throw himself against the Nautolan as hard as he could. They were near the edge of the cliff and sending the Jedi hurtling off the edge was the only idea he had on trying to make sure they all didn't get brought into some drastic attack by Rhis. It was also why he had thrown the vine to the Sithspawn to hold onto. If he had figured this out correctly, the vines should be able to keep a hold of him, whilst the Sithspawn could pull him back up. Shan just stayed as quiet as he could have during the rush, only yelling out once he managed to get close enough to Rhis to throw himself at the Jedi.

"You're ready to kill and die for your values?! Well so am I as well!"

It went against every fibre of Shan's being to try and kill another living being, but this was...different in his eyes. It wasn't like he'd see Rhis actually die if this worked...Though that also meant there was every chance the Nautolan could survive the fall and escape. It didn't matter to Shan however. Just as long as he could protect the people he cared about.

It was a chaotic clash of blades, and yet Kahlil had already found his center. He moved as water, taking the brunt of the assault from the Nautolan against his blade, twisting and turning all the while to allow Valery to explode forward with her own ferocity. They acted fully as sword and shield, but something shattered the otherwise calm Kahlil felt through the clash. Shan. He blinked in surprise as he watched the blur of green as Shan just threw himself into a tackle.

"Shan-!"

His attacked phases through the Sword, but she still could be seen and saw her flanking him from the rear. While still facing the Noble patriarch, his lightsaber went to parry her own blade. Successful, but she did nip a few tentacles from his head. That alone was enough pain to lose focus to forget about the Padawan.

In a bold attempt to throw his weight to push off Rhis from the edge of the cliff. Naturally, when one is about to fall they grab at the nearest thing to prevent it. That object, for Rhis, was Shan and grabbed hold of him. Grab hold and bring him down with him in the descent.

At this point, he no longer viewed these Jedi as allies instead as enemies. Such ideals to him were destructive rather than progressive. Today they would save and alter a Sithspawn. Tomorrow they could break bread with a Sith Lord.

Should Rhis and Shan fall, he’d only cut the vine attached to the Padawan and make an example of him.
