It would have been rude not to come.

That's what Gatz told himself, tucked away in his corner and nursing his third drink of the night. He didn't want to be here. He didn't want to people watch; to see everyone pass him by, someone tucked on their arm, or in a group, all in a shared camaraderie. He didn't want to see all the people and all the people they'd be spending the holidays with.

He didn't want to be reminded that he'd be spending them alone, standing in the snow with only tombstones for company.

He finished his third drink.

What was an appropriate time to be at a party, before slipping out? And did being mind melded with the host mean he was held to a higher standard when it came to something like that? The longer he was here, the more miserable he felt. And the more he drank, the more likely he was to finally drown in all of his unresolved issues. It was probably more responsible to leave, than to stay.

Leave and... what? Go visit his parents' graves a few hours early? Sit around in a cold and empty ship? Sure, he was miserable here, but he was going to be miserable everywhere. At least if he was here, there was a chance to run into Lossa Aureus Lossa Aureus .

And yet... did he really want her to see him like this? A Life Day grinch? Angry because he'd be spending Life Day—his birthday—all on his lonesome for the very first time? Upset because he couldn't stand to be reminded that everyone else had loved ones to spend the holidays with, and he had no one?

No... No he definitely didn't want Lossa to see him like this.

With his decision made, Gatz set his empty glass down, and began to plan his silent escape from Briana's home.

Naboo was always beautiful and the last time she had come here... she had fought with the Mason Princess.. and it had been brutal. She had lost some fingers and been kicked down a waterfall... but she had managed to give as much as she got so it was alright in most cases. The small maid moved through the room and was taking it all in as she used her innate skill to be smaller then most and not noticed for the most part. She didn't need stealth just to be the maid on the wall while she was wearing her finest uniform with her as she weaved around two people and slipped under the hands of another taking a drink. She didn't bump them as the force made her more flexible and able to move around almost unconsciously to navigate herself.

Avoiding coming to Naboo after inheriting Sanna's first holocron, along with the properties and other items attached to her grandmother's name, had been the most recent activity for Lossa. Even now, staring over the datapad and scrolling through the listed items was compounding the recent mounting stress she had to deal with.

Property on Naboo. Romi's trial and handing the continued rebuilding and operations of the Jakku Enclave. The tensions between the Alliance and the Mandalorians. Her friends and families involvement in that conflict.

Her own worries about what had happened to her on Corva Yag.

The finality and severity of the advisor seated across from her at the table not helping her mood as she set the datapad down and rubbed the spot behind her eyes.

"Does this have to be decided tonight? Can this not wait until the morning?" Frown marring the otherwise cheery environment that waited outside the room. The stoic and stone-carved line across the man's face yet to move as he turned to view his own datapad.

"The issue of the estate and its maintenance has been put off long enough. With the events in the capital and the scrutiny your family has been under demands a decision be made before the property is moved to a public sale."

Her brow knitting together at the sudden shift from inheriting to sale.

"Waitwaitwait. I thought-I haven't-"

"Because of your inaction and failure to return any correspondence on the matter, proceedings have moved forward to aid the family in more altruistic ways. Opening up the sale of property that is otherwise unused and could better serve the public would be a more than reasonable aim."

Her lip twitched, unable to argue the logic as she leaned back in the seat. Having almost sent her chair skittering backwards if she'd finished her outburst.

"Al-Alright. I get it. That's. On me. And this," Her hand waved over the datapad before looking to the advisor once more. "This is all of it?"

His silent nod drawing her lips into a thinning line of tense thought. Eyes closing briefly as she sighed. Hands twining as she gave up.

"Alright. Let's. Let's get this over with." She'd put it off long enough that she would lose the only thing left that she had yet to learn of her grandmother if she didn't act. But the idea of the Aureus estate being hers was a rattling idea. Especially given Bri's position here on Naboo.

The two began the process in earnest, the stoney cold man suddenly warm and smiling as they spoke.

Jasper was not a particular lover of high-end parties. If he wasn't with his other half, there was no way he was being caught dead at the swanky party part of this event. Charity? That was something that he actually carred about. It was for the kids, after all. Jasper was anything if not self-aware of the fact that he was becoming a household name across the Alliance. A big shot war hero, the youngest member of the Jedi Council, and a guy who really couldn't keep himself cooped up in the Jedi Temple. No doubt there were children out there who looked up to people like him. That was the reason he was here to day.

The hope of giving those who were lost at a young age a brighter life day. He had been there before.

So the Sentinel of Harmony assembled the dream team to make the ultimate sculpture. Jalen Kai'el Jalen Kai'el , his blind little brother, Pyf, the floating eyeball with no arms, Blip, the beatboxing astromech (again, no arms), and the pilot of the Redwind, an educational retreat vessel that he had made for the NJO, knight Seydan Toth.

Ultimate was, of course, a bit of an overstatement.

"Alright, I'm noticing a distinct lack of arms," Jasper frowned. "Who was in charge of this opperation?"

"That would be you, Big Kahuna," Seydan noted, taking a sip of the piping-hot tea he had brough with him.

Jalen grinned as he plucked at the strings of his hallikset, tuning it as a gentle melody began to fill the air around them...

"We're doing great so far," he mused sarcastically. "Anything else we need to get out of the way?"

"My circuits are freezing," Pyf noted in monotone. "So no, not really."

"Alright, this will work just fine," Jasper sighed, giving an awkward smile. "We'll just make do with what we got. I've got a plan at the very least for what we're actually making."

"Woo," Toth reacted enthusiastically.

The knight drew a datapad from his notably still sleeveless shirt, procuring the image of a vessel that projected out from the screen. A Chiss Clawcraft, a personal favorite of Jasper's. He loved starfighters, from watching them race to modifying them, and of course flying. The Chiss were mysterious, but their starship technology was no doubt briliant. At the very least it would be a worth-while challenge to tackle.

A considerable challenge. It was very complex.

"Right..." the knight muttered. "We got a lot of work ahead of us."

Holly couldn’t help but be a nosy busy body. It was kind of her entire career after all. But come on if someone opens up their home for the first time ever and you are lucky enough to get the invite you go! So that’s exactly what she did.

She dressed in an elegant simple dress and put her hair up, grabbed her voice recorder just in case a scoop presented itself, and went to the party. It was beautiful on Naboo. Holly had always liked the planet and tonight could be fun. Usually at these things though she never met many people who wanted to talk to her. Being a reporter had that effect on people after all.

Eloise's question came out of nowhere. She just happened to be standing near Gatz, with her back leaning against a marble pillar and a mug of hot chocolate in hand. For someone who hated socializing (or at least, wasn't very good at it) she sure had been attending a lot of parties lately.

"Sorry," she said. "Don't mean to assume. You just seem kind of... agitated." And it really wasn't any of her business, was it?

Albrecht had been ice skating since he was a child. The barren moors of Quitaine held little opportunity for it, but Axilla had boasted a scenic lake that would freeze solid in winter, perfect for skating.

Lacing up his skates, he glided out onto the ice, doing a figure eight to start with. No one else was around yet. He had the rink all to himself...

"Miss Mina! Thoughts on the trial of Romi Jade Romi Jade ?" A Rodian Journalist inquired of the smartly dressed "C.E.O." of Bacta-Works.

Sera, who had arrived by a black Repulsorlift Limo, to throngs of reporters covering her dramatic and unexpected entry onto the Galactic Scene, including her recent pledge to house and employ over a billion refugees from worlds like Ukatis and Thyferra, which was still underway, turned to face the reporter with a practiced, glittering smile. Naboo had also recently received an unexpectedly massive shipment of Bacta thanks to her, and was also about to receive thousands of field Bacta Tanks from her company, so the government was all too happy to receive her at the Gala.

"It's a difficult question. Master Jade has done so much for the Jedi and The Alliance herself..." Sera trailed with a practiced appearance of modesty and humbleness that would have put many an Alliance Senator into a fit of jealousy at how smoothly she pulled it off.

"The people of Rhen Var absolutely deserve justice for what they suffered...but do they really believe they will get it by punishing someone who was brainwashed and viciously tortured both physically and psychologically into becoming one of their tormentors? There are no end to the level of psychoactive substances loose in the Galaxy, many of which are more than capable of causing permanent, irreversible harm when administered, to nervous systems, to thought processes..."

"But what of the role Master Jade played in the destruction of important cultural heritage sites and artifacts? Which she admitted to on the stand?"

"If Master Jade was truly as much of a criminal as they say, if she is such an irredeemable monster who should be locked up forever, why surrender herself to the Jedi? Why put herself through this? Why tell even as much of the truth as she did, knowing it could only inflame the rhetoric? Why spend so much time afterwards doing everything she could to redeem herself?" Sera countered with a deadly and precise crispness to her voice. "There are much worse people out there, who there is even less evidence on, who have never demonstrated even a tenth of the humility and remorse that Master Jade has in even cooperating...and who have not been dragged through the coals nearly as much as your enthusiastic peers have with Master Jade. Seems persecution and prosecution don't have much of a difference when it's a Jedi on trial."

Sera walked away into the Gala. Let 'em chew on that one. She had been secretly buying up a major news outlet or two at Nathan's directing. And without much of anything resembling a conscience, had fired anyone with integrity until all that was left were those willing to report the news the way she wanted it reported...which in this case, was casting brutal, unwarranted suspicion on the prosecution team trying to bury Romi, digging for anything questionable and blowing it out of context. Eighty dozen hit pieces on every single member of the prosecution within a span of a week. Nightly articles covering every potential unpleasant thing in their back ground with a focused but ever so subtle persistence and cruelty, going for insinuation and speculation that fell just short of the legal qualifications for slander and libel. She didn't care. She'd make sure they'd get smeared even worse if Romi went down, along with anyone else who had targeted her in the aftermath. Whether Romi or The Jedi would approve of such a shameless, cutthroat retaliation was irrelevant to her, but especially irrelevant to Nathan, who reasoned that as long as they weren't murdering anyone or breaking the law (in Alliance Space, mind you), it was okay to go for the metaphorical jugular. And go for it they did. She had even recently purchased a news network on Naboo and it had already subtly begun increasing it's pro-Jedi slant...

Sera walked in, instantly drawing stares for her great beauty. She noticed Holly Starstorm Holly Starstorm and immediately got intrigued, walking over, her expensive stilettos clicking across the surface.

"Miss Starstorm..." Sera spoke, flashing a pleasant smile. "I'm such a huge fan of your interviews. "

This was sort of the truth...Sera had secretly purchased a few shares in the Network Holly worked for. This would be an excellent opportunity to sniff out a potential threat...

A Night to Remember

Thirdas and his Ironsides had remained on Lohopa II following the events at the hospital. GADF forces had intercepted their distress call and cleared a path for the medical staff and patients to be evacuated via airlift. Amani Serys Amani Serys and Denn Verdan Denn Verdan went with the civilians while the Ironsides slipped away into the night, for their work was far from over. They would go on for days on end, tirelessly monitoring the riots and anonymously transmitting intelligence to GA personnel on the scene, as well as intervening whenever possible to prevent further violence. A week later, the rioting finally subsided. He supposed no one wanted to spend the upcoming Life Day smashing windows or breaking down doors.

The invitation to attend a festival on Naboo had been signed "A.S.", the Mirialan no doubt having reached out to Kyra Perl Kyra Perl for access to their private channel intended for emergencies only. Even now, Thirdas could be counted on to have his kid sister's back.

It was strange to see his comrades in formal attire, each member donning the apparel of their homeworld. For himself, the fine garments of a Prince of Midvinter, while comfortable when compared to suiting up for a mission, still managed to make him uncomfortable. It was a reminder of where he came from, and any such reminder was a painful one. All Valkyri are bonded to Midvinter, their blood calling out for home after prolonged outings. He was of mixed heritage, however, and his Corellian blood desired to wander and yearned for adventure.

His teammates all dispersed through the crowd upon arriving, though it should be said only a few knew to let down their hair for the occasion. Only the young couple native to Sev Tok had genuine smiles on their faces as they took to the dance floor. As for their leader, he found himself staring at a handful of snow he'd plucked from the ground. It was powdery and white, pure and perfect. He then lifted his gaze to the snow-capped mountain peaks that surrounded them, and a part of him felt almost offended. This world possessed none of the grit, none of the untamed wilderness or the primal spirituality of his homeworld.

Hell, it could barely be considered cold!

He watched as Cain and Mira shared a kiss underneath the mistletoe. They looked happy. He caught himself fidgeting with the ring on his finger. He always did when thinking of her.

For Izara, learning to skate was largely a matter of leveraging the eidetic nature of her computerized memory to learn by watching. In that regard, the biot had spent a little more than two hours watching some of the galaxy’s best ice dancers, figure skaters, and speed skaters in action before arriving at the estate. While it didn’t help that she had never skated before now, the biot trusted in the efficacy of her digital-biological cognition systems.

Accordingly, Izara stepped out onto the ice and gingerly tested her balance, before slowly spinning in place. At that, the biot allowed a brief smile to manifest over her features. She had finished calibrating her balance. Now, she simply needed to skate. In that, the biot’s green-hued photoreceptors took note of the other individual present with her on the rink—a tall, lean-figured young man with a head of soft, bouncy curls and dressed in a puffy-looking jacket that seemed to hug his chest.

As Izara watched him whip a graceful figure eight across the rink, a thought manifested in her digital mind. Perhaps it would be nice to learn how to skate from a partner!

Seeking to begin right away, Izara made to carve her own figure eight into the ice with a speed far in excess of her skill. Accordingly, it didn’t quite turn out the same, as the biot gave a sudden squeak upon feeling her body briefly go flying in the middle of her second curve, before landing prone on the ice!

Snow sculpting.

Beyond making a snowman with the kids, it wasn't something Valery had ever done before. Now, they had to make something inspired by an iconic location or legendary person from history. To make matters even more interesting, the Nobles decided to not just try to win, but also compete with each other. Vera had teamed up with Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble and Aris would be helping Valery.

"Alright, you know what happens if those two win. We won't hear the end of it, and I'm sure Vera will have you do her chores for her." Valery squinted at Kahlil, knowing he'd likely have his own little ideas for if he won, too.

As long as it didn't involve blowing snow up her dress with runes this time, it'd not be the end of the world. But she still wanted to beat him, and make him give her a massage every day, for a week.

"We'll need to come up with something good and maybe try something special to make it unique. I am willing to bet that they will use their runes on theirs. They have had a lot of practice with it lately." Valery turned to Aris and smiled. "It'll be fun, hm?"

"Dad? We can't let Mom and Aris win. We should make a historical person and use runes to make it move!" She grinned and looked over at Aris. She squinted at him with that competitive side of her burning bright in her multi-colored eyes.

She wasn't sure if he cared about winning, but she definitely did with silly things like this.

But not all Nobles were working on ice sculptures. Somewhere nearby, the triplets were with Colette to play in the snow. Valery had, as a protective Mom who hated the cold, put them in thick coats, gave them a shawl, a hat that ran over their ears, and gloves.

They would be warm.

Adam was loving it, and running around through the snow, and even Aurra was messing around, trying to make a snow angel on the ground. Only the otherwise hyperactive Aeryn stood still, her face buried in her coat and her nose tucked underneath her shawl.

Just like Mom, she did not like the cold.

Tags: @Anyone

Vulpesen had fought on many fields in his younger days. Hapes. Csilla. Tund. And now, his war was brought to Naboo. It had started out as a small skirmish. One shot fired and returned with fury. Then shots had missed and hit other targets. Before he knew it, the wilder was caught up in an all out warzone in the snowy field. What's worse, he was pinned down under the icy assault of a gaggle of children. Of course, who could resist the adult target who stood out in black against the stark white around them. On the bright side, ammo was everywhere.

"Come on, its gonna take more than that to get me!"
he shouted out, his gloved fingers packing a snowball which he hurled over his makeshift wall. He chuckled to himself as he heard a yelp as he scored a lucky hit. Then he ducked once more as a new salvo of cold fluffy attakcks rained down around him. The giggling was growing closer. Before long, his position would be overrun. "I need back up!" the zorren shouted, which simply prompted another peal of eager laughter from his assailants.

Valery Noble Valery Noble

There was no denying how badly Colette hated the snow and the cold. It hadn't seemed so bad when Valery had told her about it, but hearing about it and feeling it was two very different things. One of them sounded cozy almost but the other one left you a shaky mess unless you kept on moving. Which was perhaps just one of the reasons she had agreed to taking care of the small ones for this outing.

Life day wasn't a thing where she came from, but it was similar to an event her culture had where they celebrated the passing of a new year and those born under it. While most of the finer points were lost on Colette in both part because she had forgotten and in a larger part because she had never engaged in it all that much, the whole thing had something to do with the sun and the moon and their cycles.

But, this wasn't about that. This was about family, and in Colette's case: being part of a whole new family. Not one to shy away from the triplets in the slightest she had taken it upon herself almost immediately to keep them safe and entertained, and there was no better way for that than engaging with them directly.

So, to set the scene…

The careful hunters had managed to run off in their own separate directions like a party split. One had turned into an angel, one was climbing a particularly big pile of snow, and the other one was brooding atop the tallest peak.

Easy prey for the Theedian Snow Nexu as it slowly began to stalk the wildest one with an intimidating (very much guttural and hellish on the throat) growl before it stood over its chosen target.

"I'm going to get you!" It hissed as it plunged itself straight into the snow heap next to Adam. "Blast it!"

The kid set off towards Aurra and the occasionally-bipedal Nexu followed behind it.

Kahlil_Div2.png

".. Mm. I don't have time to do her chores."

Aris frowned at the thought as he looked towards Vera and Kahlil across the field where they were already working on their own snowmen. But for him and Valery, they'd have to win through design. And, well, he'd have to make sure he didn't end up buried under more work while he was still preparing for his Padawanship. What could they make, though? He frowned in thought, sorting through some of the things he did study.

Then smiled.

"We don't have runes, but we have fire. We should use that to our advantage. Seszil?"

The living sword floated to his side. "Yes, young lord?"

"Think you can carve ice? We're going to make the Thousand Fountains."

"A historic figure?" Kahlil reached up to rub at his chin in thought. There were all kinds of historic figures, but what would be striking to make move around with their runes? And how exactly should they move? He glanced briefly down towards Vera before grinning. Just a little grin. He had an idea.

"What do you think about Master Yoda?"

Atin's watchful gaze panned over the guests, each in their own elegant or extravagant attire. They laughed, they drank, danced and made merry, as if war was some far off problem or a distant memory. To them, perhaps it was. Atin wanted to be sour at the Naboo for being so careless, so easy to fall into some false sense of security. They were in neutral space, no one close enough to assist them if war came to knock on their doors. It had happened time and time again in ages past, and surely it would happen again. And yet still they let their guard down.

But they were happy, or at very least, were able to forget their worries for a time, and Atin could not bring himself to fault them for that. And maybe he'd been infected with the holiday spirit just a little.

In any case, it wasn't Atin's place to partake in the celebrations, despite his being dressed up for once. This was the first time he'd been in public without his armor since Yhag'dul. He'd made an exception just for today, and at least been pleased enough when people had stopped glaring at him like he was a murderer. It made his current job a little easier, which was to ensure all the guests safety. A little ironic in the grand scheme of things, but Atin was glad for the assignment. It was a reprieve everything else, a way to forget for a moment how far from home he was. He could just get lost in a crowd of his enemies, and maybe steal away some booze at the end of the evening. Tomorrow, it'd be off to wherever they saw fit to send the Mandalorian pet next.

Briana wanted to say that she couldn't remember the last time she'd celebrated Lifeday — a true, heartfelt celebration — but it was as vivid in her mind as the gleaming light cascading from the crystalline chandeliers above.

The memory came from half a decade past, when Romi Jade Romi Jade 's Ossus Enclave still kept vigil over Knossa city, long before loss tainted her worldview and the holiday was only a symbol of warmth and sanctuary. The universe seemed so brilliant and untouched then, brimming with infinite possibilities: it was the epoch of her apprenticeship under Valery, still pursuing the path to Knighthood. Naboo was vibrant and thriving, untouched by the shadows that now lingered like an unwelcome specter in every corner, her family was still whole and intact, with friends so plentiful they had to join tables together in the mess hall just to sit everyone down at the feast.

In the midst of all that sparkle, joy, and laughter — it was beyond Briana, beyond any of them, to know that it would be the last holiday they celebrated together like that. The cataclysm that'd destroyed her home was the first blow, followed by the great war that'd raged through the Galaxy like a fiery plague, taking even more.

Now, after all that chaos and all that destruction, they stood again on the precipice.

With the recent scandal surrounding her family, the rumor mills were already whirling, claiming this event was nothing more than a desperate PR stunt. But in all honesty — Briana only wished to recapture the essence of that distant memory. To create something new that could stand as a bulwark against those steadily encroaching shadows.

But for now, Briana stood back, lingering on the edge of the celebrations, her right hand cradling a glass of effervescent champagne, waiting for Aiden to appear so they could join the celebrations together. Slowly, her eyes panned over the gathered crowd, full lips pulling into a soft smile as she watched guests drink, twirl, and converse.

Her siblings and other family members had yet to appear, but she held onto the hope that they would eventually make their entrance. And if not? Well. Briana was a determined and stubborn woman. She'd find a way to enjoy the night regardless.

With each step, his bitterness grew. With each step, his anger deepened.

How was it that he could spend a year trying to set things right, only to lose everything he held dear as a consequence? How was it that he could lament to his closest friend about how he didn't want to be alone over the holidays, only to receive a lecture about self pity? How was it that he could be in his friend's home, at his friend's party, and still be so utterly alone?

To hell with them. To hell with them all!

Damn Valery and her perfect family! Damn Briana and her stupid mansion and riches! Damn Lossa and how stupidly pretty she was! None of them, not one of them actually gave a damn. He was a vanity project for Valery, a useful tool to Briana, and so far under Lossa's radar that he probably didn't even register. He was tired of giving everything he was to other people, just to be left stranded on his own.

Next time, Briana could save her own sister! Fight her father's stupid terrorist cult on her own! Next time, Valery could deal with her own clones problems, and save her own husband! He was tired of being an afterthought to everyone in his life!

His rage burned so hot, Gatz thought he might melt the snow when he finally stepped outside.

"Are you leaving already?"

Gatz stopped midstride, and curtailed his hurt. It was still there, like an explosive about to be set off, but there was still enough of him that was just nice enough not to blow up at someone for asking him a simple question. He turned to the woman in question, and a vague sense of recognition struck him. The purple hair... that wasn't exactly uncommon in the galaxy, but he swore he should have recognized her.

"I'm not really feeling the holiday cheer," Gatz said simply, "and it's better if I leave before I make any trouble for our hostess."

No time to do her chores?

That was one way to put it, and it certainly made Valery chuckle. But regardless of what fired him up to give this his all, it worked out well — he seemed determined now and he had ideas too. Kahlil and Vera had their runes, but Aris and Valery had fire, and she figured he'd want to use that to shape the ice.

Even Seszil was being recruited now.

"The thousand fountains, hm? That'll be difficult, but we do know very well what it looks like." She smiled and looked around, "Let's start with the base, and we have seszil cut it into shape?"

Vera, meanwhile, squinted at her brother when he called in help from Seszil, and turned back to her father with puffy cheeks. If her brother wasn't going to play fair, neither would she. "Yeah! Let's do Yoda, and we can sculpt his lightsaber and make him do something cool!" Vera was all grins and started shoving as much snow together as she could.

She wanted to be all proper, so Yoda would be on top of a properly sculpted pedestal. A pedestal he could jump off from, if the runes worked out the way she imagined them.

"Dad, we're going to win this."

...
The triplets scattered.

With their arms flailing about, and both giggles and cries for help, they ran around to get away from the monster chasing them. Adam had only spotted Aurra, so he naturally ran her way, but Aurra wasn't having any of it, and turned around to run away herself. It was every triplet for themselves, as far as she was concerned, and she'd happily sacrifice her brother to the monster to get away.

Aeryn, however, squinted.

With a puff of cold air leaving her lips, the most gremlin of the Nobles started to run after everybody else, but with trouble on her mind. She was going to catch the beast, and she'd win this battle.

"Aurra!" Adam yelled, as they circled around some snow statues that were built for the contest already.

"Run!" Aurra yelled back, as she tried to find a place to hide.

They all knew hide and seek — that was going to be their savior in this battle against the Nexu monster.
