X-Wing Question

Hello All,

A question has recently come up that I'd like to see if anyone has an answer for me. Recently the developer of our Stealth Xs and X-Wings left the Republic and what we'd like to know is can the Republic have a different manufacturer develop a new version of the X-Wing for use by the Republic?

I would understand if we can't utilize the models that the company itself designed, but does that mean we can't use X-Wings in general or could we develop our own version? The X-Wing and the Republic just go together in canon and I'd like to see if the company has sole rights to all x-wings or just the models they developed.

Thanks in advance!

I believe there was a massive lawsuit against [member="Enigma"] for infringement of the Tie Fighter series.

If the said company desires to pull itself into such a lawsuit and engage on that front - by all means, but most contracts such as the one negotiated with someone for the old plans for the T65-B had specific outlines of reproduction/resale. EDIT - Which could lead up to termination of the contract and include a lawsuit that meant repossession of product and forfeiture of all profits. However, the individual had -zero- desire to share with anyone else.

Incom Corporation before I took it over, was an anti-Republic company and supported the Confederacy of Independent Systems - so in Chaos canon, they have not supported the Republic entirely and she's merely looking back at the roots to which they emerged out of the 400 Year Darkness.

Remake this.

Have that reverse-engineer the X-wings and Stealth X's.

Dare the traitorous Incom Corporation to take a government sponsored entity to court and then pull an Operation: Weedkiller when they do.

Boom. Problem solved.

Lawsuit - and how is Incom traitorous?

Can I purchase the sole rights to products no longer produced by Incom Corporation?
No, you may purchase a license with the same contractual obligation as a bulk order. Please understand this is to protect the integrity and ethical background of Incom Corporation.

Does Incom Corporation retain sole rights to all it's designs and products, even after sale?
Yes, all products and property within belongs to Incom Corporation and is subject to contractual agreements between factions, governments, individuals and Incom Corporation.

Also, I believe most of the newest submissions to include the Stealth-X have anti-reverse engineering methods - feel free to blow yourself up.

This is moot. I'm not dealing with angst.

Okay. It's not hard to go fishing for a canon StealthX somewhere and to reverse-engineer that.

And seriously, go ahead and sue the Republic. Give them a reason to invoke their inner Selena Halcyon. Do eet.

And it would only prove more as to why everyone and their mother is or should distance themselves further from the Republic - if that is the case.

*slow claps* I mean, really. Think about what you said, think about what the company is doing and yeah, ok.

I think I'll continue to make contact with Titan Industries and look outside the box.

Personally, I don't give a hoot.

Kian asked for options, I suggested one. You getting your panties in a wad isn't part of the equation.

(And seriously, it's not hard to find a legit, canon X Wing. Any canon battlefield will do. Have the Senate make an emergency decision because it can do that. We're living in an era where the Sith took Coruscant, having decent ships is worth a lawsuit.

And subsequent Operation: Weedkiller II.)

My panties, as you say, are far from twisted.

If they wanna run around in some old T60 series, go for it.

I'm just talking about the ethics behind their moves - speak straight to the public, talk out of the side of your mouth when no one else is looking type deal? Not sure if that's the right thing but whatever.

*waves a hand* It doesn't matter, back to the subject at hand - any type of duplication could be considered dangerous in terms for the Republic in a legal sense. Would I sue the Republic ICly? Damn right I would. I'd sue the One Sith.

Great stories and fun to be had.

Anyways, sort've drawn off subject.

Well, seeing as though the canon X-Wing is the basis for the factory's starship template, I'd say the Republic would be in good shape having them; or even making their own version down the line.

That said, the Republic marched on O'reen and swallowed up a bunch of prisoners with earthquakes, I doubt they'll bat an eye at getting starships when they need them. By all means, sue the Republic.

I've been looking for some good threads to read.

Santhe sued Subbach Innes for reproduction of the TIE design which Santhe ownes the Copywrite and Intelectual property for (among other things in the suit). At the time EVERY major government on the board except Black Sun (The thread never finished) agreed to support Sienars claim and boycott all products from Subbach Innes.

Don't remind me of that, please. Already have dealt with enough company shit in my time on the site to not have to have it brought up again well after it's ended...

So as a newer member here, is there a difference between trademark and technological patents here at the Chaos universe?

Do such things ever expire (as in the real world)?

Or is it something that's kind of a gray area, but again, leads more or less to legal problems?

The way they're played on the board is, once a person takes over a canon company, they have a vice grip over every design ever made by it.

...And now I understand why staff wants to do something about canon companies. Brb, changing my vote.

Actually some patents in the real DONT Expire, these being predominantly defense contracts. Others don't expire unless for some reason you can't pay the 10 dollar fee to renew. Patent law is confusing, and convoluted. So gray area.

I think that has very limited to do with that vote - actually - has nothing to do with that vote.

Renaming - Doesn't mean "New Incom" doesn't own the X-Wing.

Actually it isn't. If you go back and read Circe literaly took designs that I made for the site and put E on them and made new versions of them. So TIE Whatever-E. I almost reported it for plagerism.
