Xbox One vs Playstation 4

In all fairness, I have had a love for the PS that is solely revolving around Naughty Dog and their many, many excellent games: the Sly Cooper quadrilogy, The Last of Us, InFamous, etc.
Sly Cooper and inFamous are made by Sucker Punch, not Naughty Dog.

[member="Lord Sebastian"] The answer to your question really comes down to what's more important: exclusives, or multi-platform games.

The PS4 is the more powerful console. All fanboyism aside, it objectively has the better hardware. This manifests in a vast majority of the multiplatform games running better on PS4 hardware. 1080p on PS4, 900p on Xbox One.

Exclusives are a different story however. Playstations efforts haven't exactly been wooing everyone. Knack, Killzone: Shadowfall, Infamous: Second Son, and The Order 1886 haven't been setting the world on fire. You'll probably find them fun (except Knack), but they're nothing great. Drive Club, post patch, is a very good racing game. Bloodborne is probably the best exclusive on PS4 at the moment. It's not as good as Dark Souls, but it's still a very good game.

The exclusive landscape on Xbone is looking a lot stronger, frankly. Sunset Overdrive falls into the camp of being fun, but not really excellent. Halo Masterchief Collection single player is excellent, multiplayer is stuffed though. Forza Horizon 2 is an excellent racer. Rare Replay for a lot of Rare classic games (Conkers bad fur day, Banjo Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, etc), Gears of War ultimate. In the future, there's going to be Crackdown 3, Gears of War 4, Scalebound (Kamiya hype), Quantum Break (Remedy hype), Halo 5. It's looking really good in the future.

If we're counting stuff that comes to pc too, Xbox has also got: Titanfall (waste of time), Ryse Son of Rome (fun game, but kinda whatever), Dead Rising 3 (fun), Killer Instinct (great fighter).

Xbox One has backwards compatibility, PS4 doesn't.

As for the controller. How it feels is subjective, so I can't really comment on that. The build quality of the PS4 controllers have been iffy at best though. An unacceptable amount of people have had the rubber on the analog sticks peel off (I have), and the triggers becoming squeaky (I have that too). The Xbone controller is a lot more solidly built. You don't get those same issues. (I've got an Xbone controller for PC gaming)

Looking at online services. Cost wise they're pretty much the same. Xbox Live is more reliable. I personally think Xbox Games With Gold is giving away higher quality games every month, lots of AAA stuff given out. PSN gives out a lot of indie games. You might like that, but I don't.

I own a PC, PS4, and WiiU just for clarification.

Huh? Why ya tagging me for? I was not supporting their gimmicky online service!

paying for PSN gets you the same EXACT thing paying for XBL does. They both get cloud save storage. They both get sales and content. They both get monthly free games. They are both identical in every way and, coming from someone who has both and couldn't care for either to be brutally honest, the ONLY meaningful difference you will ever find is which console-exclusive genres and titles you want, and which one feels more comfortable to use.

Both run at 1080p/60fps. Both have pretty much all the relevant titles. Both play games and watch movies and stuff. Everything else, no offense to any of you guys, is fan-bias. You will look at side-by-sides and think "do I really give enough of a poodoo about this?"

I'm not putting down anyone's opinion. I am just making sure you know exactly what you're getting into and exactly what to expect before you make a $400 dollar investment on something ultimately should only matter to you.

Edit: I can attest to what [member="Isamu Baelor"] is saying about the controllers. I've dropped my 360 and XB1 controllers more times than I can count and the things are like bricks. The rubber pads last longer and the triggers, depending how hard you're using them, tend to go soft a lot less sooner than the PS4 bumpers. And I've tossed both plenty of times in rage. Have only had to replace an xbox controller once, and that was actually because a button on my father's 360 controller went dead, my boxed original works to this day albeit looks like hell. xD
There are sites that sell customized controllers cross-console (I.E.: XB1 with PS4 buttons and connectivity) but they can run up towards and into the three-digit mark so that may not be an option for everyone.
