SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • HAMMER OF THE IMPERATOR: The Cataphract is one of the most battle tested and utilized designs in recent Galactic history, being utilized heavily by the Empire through the Third Imperial Civil War and Second Great Hyperspace War, its design and systems have been rigorously proven and time tested in the most unforgiving of environments. Despite the struggles that come with maintaining heavy vehicles, alterations through the vehicle's production have made it easy to man, easy to maintain and cost effective for its quality.
  • LIGHTNING WAR: With both an impressive array of armaments the Cataphract is able to surpass most other main battle tanks in terms of speed, giving it a more versatile freedom of maneuver on the battlefield, allowing it to encircle and close with and destroy the enemy with lethal effectiveness.
WEAKNESSES
  • CREW REQUIREMENTS: Whilst earlier Cataphracts were able to be unmanned by use of the onboard 'Powerslave', increase in the power drain from weapons and propulsion systems have taken away that option, necessitating at least a driver and track commander at a bare minimum with a hull and turret gunner each rounding out the crew to its full effectiveness, four members manning the tank being a larger than average crew size for Main Battle Tanks who are able to operate off of three crewmen in most cases.
  • EXPOSED OPTICS: Whilst the optics systems of the Cataphract is advanced and wide ranging, utilizing drivers cameras, hull gunner optics and sights for the gunner as well as an independent viewer for the commander, crack shots might be able to target these systems and effectively 'blind' the tank in the midst of battle, particularly at risk by fragmentation that pierces or slips under the tank's shielding system or as a result of the vehicle's explosive reactive armor.
DESCRIPTION
Utilizing the same design since 858ABY when then Sith Major General Irveric Tavlar Irveric Tavlar commissioned a repulsorlift main battle tank from the Technoid Manufactorum the Cataphract's foundational chassis and combat platform has only been a groundwork by which generational upgrades have been built upon for decades since. Utilized heavily in both the Third Imperial Civil War and the Second Hyperspace War, Cataphracts saw action over hundreds of worlds numbering in the thousands, being one of the most highly produced and utilized ground vehicles of the New Imperial Order. Whilst the 862ABY modernization package had been in use for decades, in 890ABY with its design and production now administratively transferred to Gat Tambor's other vehicle design conglomerate, Kuat Entralla, another modernization package was planned to bring the battle tank forth into the 9th Century ABY.

Firstly, two limiting determinations were made. Whilst the Cataphract had been used (mainly in the early days of the Third Imperial Civil War) as a droid tank, this feature was limited severely in favor of a fully sentient crew. Another limitation being the 862ABY's various variants were scrapped in favor of a single main battle tank role, adopting the roles missing by the lack of different variants unto other chasses which could better specialize for the befitting battlefield role. Another scrapped feature being the tank's 'siege' mode, something under utilized and straining on the vehicle's power supply, favoring its use in maneuver warfare and preferring indirect fire for static engagements. With these changes, the mass-driver based 890ABY modernization package will take the role of Main Battle Tank in the Techno Union's comprehensive combined arms roll out for private military sale.
