You Again? (Owain)

With a raised eyebrow Juwiela smiled wryly. "No one knows anything for certain. I almost hate to quote the likes of the Jedi, but the future is always in motion. Nothing's set in stone, no matter how much you wish it were so. And, for that matter, nothing is impossible either. Merely challenging, as you said. The point of a challenge is to perhaps gain abilities that you didn't know you were capable of, or spur on those you already have. Anyone can use improvement, even the likes of you, who apparently can't fail."
She leaned back easily in the chair. "Winning is far from everything. There are more important things in life. Survival, for one. Maybe a roof over your head, food, water, that kind of thing. Success is just an added bonus to this thing we choose to call life. I hate to burst your bubble, but you'll get nowhere wanting or expecting to win at everything you attempt."

He chuckled at that. "Survival IS winning though. WInning against that which seeks to kill you. All those things you list are the rewards of victory. Everything comes after struggle, wouldn't you agree?" Owain countered. "Also, some things are impossible - you aren't going to sprout wings and take to the skies under your own power anytime soon," the youth added with a laugh. "And winning has gotten me this far, why not see how far it takes me?"

Okay, so maybe she didn't have his exact personality pinned down. This was becoming far more interesting than the simple encounter she'd expected, with a few smart remarks from his head and her walking away. But no, despite his sometimes overconfident attitude the youth was intelligent, she'd give him that. Then again, so was she.
For a moment Juwiela sat in silence, mulling over what had been said thus far, choosing her words carefully. When she did speak it was deliberately. "Everything comes after struggle, yes, but great things can be reaped from failure as well. After all, wouldn't you agree that it's a good thing the Sith and Imperials have failed in their crusade to control the entire galaxy? Yes, if you fight for the opposing side it's true that you're winning, but from their point of view failure is the only thing they see."
At his last remark she shrugged. "True enough, I suppose. Going out and expecting to win with little difficulty isn't the way to go about things. There's confidence in what you know you can do, and then there's believing that you're capable of anything and everything - even those abilities that are beyond your current skill level. I would advise that you tread wisely, lest you cross the line and learn the hard way."

Owain coughed politely. "As a citizen of Korriban I am obligated to say that it is not a good thing that the Sith and Imperials have failed to bring order to the galaxy. Conflict stems from differences after all - eliminate the major political ones, and you cut down on the warfare. It was never this bad during the time of the Old Republic, for example, which only had two power blocs," the youth said, wracking his brain for ancient knowledge he had been taught in the academy.

He smiled then and nodded at her words. "Retreat from a loss and advance in the face of victory. Oh I know a few things about that."

So he did belong to some remnant of the Sith or Imperial military. Now that she thought about it she should have expected as much, but having it confirmed for her made things much easier. "I suppose it's a matter of opinion when you get right down to the bottom of things. And yes, if you were to remove the major political powers there would most certainly be an end to the fighting. But the politicians enjoy their talking, and as long as they bicker there will always be more wars to fight. One of the benefits of belonging to one of the more removed factions on the political scene is not having to fight as much. Of course, in the Alliance we strike tactically when necessary. Unlike the major factions we don't care much for political debate. That's all show, what it comes down to is the fighting. If your soldiers aren't any good, then the rest is just talk."

"As long as I'm the last man standing, I don't really care," Owain shrugged. "It's all too big to comprehend anyway. And besides, words do have power - you pretty much said so yourself earlier," the youth pointed out, stretching out his legs. "And the Sith only care for their own. They have the tactical sense of a tauntaun - got a problem? Throw more men at it!" he added with mock seriousness, pulling off a fair impression of one of the instructors at the Academy in his opinion. "So, what's life like with the so called Alliance?" Owain settled on asking, curious as to how the woman's training differed from his.

Apart from the whole fly girl thing of course.

"And that will ultimately be their downfall. Tactics and strategy make half of the battle - the other half being how well your soldiers are able to deploy them. Without tactics battle is just an aimless free-for-all, similar to that fight of yours from earlier. It might be easier to gain the element of surprise in such a situation, but the moment you let your guard down you could just as easily become the victim of such a thing. But I'm sure such a military genius as yourself already had that figured out." Again, would she have been able to roll her eyes, she would have. Instead, Juwiela had to settle for projecting the sarcasm through voice alone. Which was arguably a bit more difficult. Those born with eyes really did take them for granted, but she'd determined that years ago.
When he asked about her training she was silent for a moment. "Be it as it may, I'm not inclined to reveal too much of our training strategies. But we are a much more unified front than what your Sith seem to be. Being a pilot my training is much different than yours, I would imagine. Unless flying was a compulsory thing in order to graduate. I would imagine it isn't, since you're so against such a thing."

"Hey, I'm not against it, I just have no interest in it. You fly, you fly well, good for you," Owain said somewhat defensively. "And such loyalty, its truly touching," he replied with the same tone she had used. Obediance and loyalty were nothing more than tools used by winners against losers. That's why he wasn't with the Sith anymore. WIth anyone really, just his family. "And any complaints should be filed to the SIth High Command, I am but someone who left the system," he chuckled, standing up from the chair. "Well, I think I'm going to grab another drink. Feel like one too?" he offered.

Juwiela watched him for a moment through her own version of sight, standing after a long moment and stretching momentarily to work any kinks out of her muscles. "You'd find it a lot more interesting if you gave it a fair shot. But, I'm not one to decide for you what path you take, be that as it may. I'm loyal to the Alliance, certainly, just as I'm sure you were loyal to your Sith before you decided to leave. We all have our own divided loyalties and our own reason for each, but I'm not one to trouble myself with such things when it's time to take a break from all of the fighting and the political mumbo jumbo." She pulled a credit chip from her pocket and nodded. "I'll have one, sure. But seeing as how I have the flight back to contend with, I'll probably stop there."
