SPECIAL FEATURES
- Zarullian crystals are known as extremely desirable for two notable reasons. The first is its brilliant shine when it is of the purest quality and cut by experts, worthy to be part of crown jewels of royal houses and noble families and depending on the purity it can either be very common or extremely rare, with ofcourse the purest gems of inconceivable value. The Second of it's desirable aspects is less noble and more sinister, as it is a gem with a large history in the mystical arts and alchemy, sith alchemy in particular. It's particular affinity for dark side energy makes it a prime gem for use in amulets and holocrons, as it is said to be able to be imprinted or imbued with unlimited quantities of dark side energy and according to some beliefs it might even be used as an anchor or vessel for one's very soul.
- Dark side affinity: Zarullian Crystals have a natural affinity to dark side energy and thus also a certain resistance to light side energy. The purer the gem, the stronger both the affinity and the resistance.
- Lightsaber resistance: Though not exactly a material to be used as armor or anything of the like, it does provide a certainty for those using the gems as storage or as amulet that a mere lightsaber would have less and less effect the higher the purity of the gems used in alchemy or crafting.
- Virtually no protection against emp or Ion due to its highly conductive and dispersive nature.
- Low elemental resistance: This gem won't protect one from heat or cold, as it disperses these things throughout itself, thus wearing it as an armor would still result in being cooked or frozen with itas protection. The very thing which avoids it from melting or being cut by lightsabers actually works as a detriment for its use as a protective material.
Discovered around forty thousand years ago by Eriaduan primitives, the zarullian gems never saw real use for along period of time due to the difficulty of mining it and the fact that at the time of its initial discovery, only the impure surface varieties were found and were easily mistaken for slightly lower quality obsidian at the time. Over time, due to its lack of use, the Zarullian crystals lacked much notoriety or fame on the grand scale of things. Used primarily in alchemy and dubious mythical arts, the Zarullian crystal sawa resurgence after Arcossius Nargath found a pure variety during the clearing of the mountains at the spot of where the current day Valkan Citadel is located.
When this pure variety was found, the popularity of the crystal skyrocketed within the jewelcrafting business, but also saw a rise in usage within the widespread alchemy and mystical arts. Though it is said that way older civilizations such as the Rakatta had already managed to find the pure varieties, it is still commonly believed that only after House Nargath took it upon themselves to start mining for the crystal, that it began to see widespread use.
Currently the largest known, completely pure zarullian crystal known in the entire galaxy is the Nargath Family jewel, which is said to be rather special and had some role in several Eriaduan folktales regarding the noble house.
