3:10 to Kathol: TKO Dominion of Zonju V Hex

Zonju IV
Post 21/37

Waiting on a blasted plain had its advantages. Fingers laced behind his neck, Jorus stared up at the clear orange sky. Not far away, [member="Julius Sedaire"] was snoring a little. Jorus had put him in a basic recovery position so he wouldn't choke on any leftover puke. That was about as far as Jorus' first aid knowledge went, apart from the simple things that any spacer learned, like pumping someone's heart after they licked a hyperdrive motivator.

This wasn't that bad a planet. Sure, the air had a funny taste and felt a little thin, but it was totally breathable. Desolate, if he remembered right; some plants and fungi near the cooler poles, maybe a few survey missions or outlaw camps, but no serious settlement in the modern era. Maybe the ancient inhabitants of Zonju V had come out here, but if so, the gritty sand had buried any sign of them, far as he could see. Nice place to sit and think, plan, wonder if he was doing the right thing or the smart thing by turning himself in.

He had been following Yoshiko for a while after seeing her sneak through the town, his interest was cued. He had heard stories from Ki of the woman, and knew she was either hunting.... or hunting. That was what worried him, he knew Bryce was nearby, and he also knew that the woman hinted Force-sensitives.

"Hold on buddy, I'm coming." Being on a upper balcony, he rose, pulling his cloak from around his chair, moving at a very fast pace until he was out of the establishment, before taking off at a speedy jog, long legs helping him weave throughout the buildings, his black military fatigues and weapons making him look more like a local police enforcer than a friend.

Running up a set of stairs, he came out on-top of another building the streets far below him, watching Yoshiko sneak around the corners. At last seeing Bryce, he jumped down behind him, rolling to break his fall.

Rising, he spoke out softly, not wanting to alert the hunter to his presence, contemplating whether or not he should mask his signature. "Ello Bryce, long time no see. But catching up can wait... appears you have company."

There was a pause as the men looked her over, initially taken aback by her sudden appearance and a bit more by her approach. But she wasn’t hostile, just forward. And not bad to look at, either.

“Down at that office, ma’am.” One of them pointed over towards a row of buildings with a smile. His eyes, for what it was worth, dipped down below her neck for a few moments before returning back up to her face. She didn’t seem to mind.

“They’re handing land and mining permits out like candy, now. Everyone’s coming from all over to set up shop and claim a piece of the pie.” His arm lowered as if he were considering the same thing. “So, uh, you gonna be sticking around here for long?” A grin started to creep up his face, and one of his buddies elbowed him in the ribs.

“Not at this very moment, no. There’s work to be done.” Her response was sweet as she gave him a placid grin. “Thank you for your help!” The shades went back on as she brush a tendril of hair from her face.

“Your boyfriend give you the information you need?” Ivan pushed himself from the wall, clicking his tongue with a bit of a wicked smirk curling his lips.

“Yes, and we’ve got a date at McYoda’s tonight.” She quipped back.

“There’s no McYoda’s here, Joza.”

“Duh, I know. C’mon, we’ve got a permit to get.”

Praiseland? That old amusement park that Star Tours has somehow overlooked? Ugohr was surprised one of the guards actually went to that place: he himself never realized that Praiseland was a thing. But across the street from Praiseland, Ugohr had no idea that the building where he was about has seen better days, but can still somehow house all three of a realty brokerage, a bank branch and an insurance brokerage. Looks like these Corellian builders didn't plan on building the strip mall for it to last. While the guards entered the premises, the Gungan realized that there were repairs necessary: fissures in the walls, ceiling leaks in what used to be, well, something other than a bank: there were several display models still left behind, probably because this place used to be a clothing boutique before the premises were condemned. But the guards had other looks around the premises, which also seem, well, devoid of tenants. Which means that not only IGR will purchase 123 Fake Street but also the entire strip mall.

"Are you serious? This place needs some structural repairs"

"Yousa will taken mesa to disen place's owners"

"Who... are you?" the owner of the strip mall asked Ugohr, surprised that someone would even want to visit the place in this condition.

"Mesa Ugohr Poof, mesa work for IGR Brokerage, and wesa have da intention of buyen da entire strip mall for oursa-selves"

"This building was condemned years ago: do you intend to restore it to its original condition?"

A gigantic form exited hyperspace over Zonju Five: a partially-completed station three kilometres to a side, all gleaming metal and legitimacy. Its IFF read Foundation. Other vessels took up positions around it, including construction ships large and small, as well as armed escorts. One of the latter was an Ackbar-class cruiser commanded by a certain Wookiee who'd served on the Underground General Staff for years.

The station's arrival constituted 'showing the flag', a demonstration of presence and authority. The political bodies that coordinated many of the Kathol worlds, the people who'd commissioned and built this station, had felt it wise to show up. The idea was to keep an eye on the local aurodium rush, and scare off the First Order a little if their scouts or informants happened to be poking around.

The construction ships resumed their work, putting the finishing touches on their ongoing project.

“And…you’re building what again?”

The man behind the desk glanced up at the Zeltron from his paperwork with a bit of a wary eye. Zeltrons were known for their entertainment, and he wasn’t sure about a five-story club in the middle of a forge just yet.

“A cantina,” Legs crossed, back straight, she was the model of business professional. “I’ve plenty of experience in the service industry, and cantinas are a staple in a place like this. The boys at the mine need a place to cool off and relax, have a few drinks and look at some pretty ladies after work, right?”

There was something to be had in catering to the everyday man. She could get the girls, no problem—what sort of Zeltron business woman didn’t have a cache of beautiful ladies at her disposal? She also had a resource in slaves—the ones she managed to liberate—who had nowhere else to go, no easy way to make a new start. While Joza helped to relocate them, she also offered jobs to those who wanted them. Nothing glamorous—cleaners, cooks, waitresses and support staff for her establishments, but she paid them decent waves and gave them benefits.

“True,” The man grunted, leaning back. “You might have others to compete with, though. Cantina aint exactly an original idea, miss.”

Her smile tightened for the moment before relaxing. “I’m aware. I think it’ll do well though, regardless. I’ve got a feeling.”

Blowing some air between his lips, the man sat forward and scribbled something on a piece of paper before handing Joza and official looking document.

“Alright, here’s your permit. And the fee?”

Without missing a beat, the Zeltron handed him a neatly stacked wad of credits from her purse. Yes, she’d counted them out beforehand and arranged them to look nice and pretty.

"Yes, and then wesa taken care of finden tenants for disen strip mall"

"Here's the list of problems the building inspectors found when they last came"

The Gungan was not fazed at the list of repairs handed over by the owner of the place, with the inspectors' estimates for their costs, as per the condemnation order. Even if it meant IGR had to fork the money to get the strip mall back to its original condition, he was not daunted by their sheer costs: to him it was the cost of doing business. However, one of the perks of working for an insurance company is that free real estate insurance is included with every new location. This neighborhood is not overly criminal, but from the looks of it, he was getting a rather raw deal. That being said, it was also a foreclosure, so they had to sell their properties due to their inability to collect rent on it. Ugohr, though, would not consider incurring a mortgage for it. After all, 2 million credits for a strip mall that featured 4,000 square meters of leasable space, might appear to be a good price for the buyer, but he wouldn't be running a shopping mall. He was there just to open a location, and then return to Sullust as promptly as possible.

"Wesa buyen without recourse to lending. Also da insurance will be free for usen"

"So, in essence you're an insurance company that also manages real estate properties"

A convoy of 10 GR-105's jumped into the Zonju system. They were there for two reasons, first they each had holds packed with repair and construction droids to drop off to the newly arrived Foundation. It was a blue milk run, easy cash the kind Cody was growing used to. One by one the 105 docked and with rapid efficiency off loaded their cargo. As he watched bored from his ship he received a strange transmission on a civilian channel.

"Captain have I got a deal for you, I have two whole decks of prime real estate just waiting for a new tenant. Only 100 credits a square meter, can't beat that right?"

Cody puffed his smoke for a minute. Now he was not born yesterday so this man's "deal" smacked of desperation.

"Hey there fella, let me guess, you bought big into the station. Then it was moved and a bunch of your renters backed out on the deal. The fact your randomly calling ships is proof enough of that. Tell ya what, offer me 60 credits a square foot and i'll see what I can do..."

The situation was deteriorating rapidly, but the King had thickened the plot himself, claiming a possible alliance with the First Order.

The servants moved in slowly, weapons drawn, ready to round up their prisoners.

Chika and Kanan shared a sly glance and grin with one another. A look neither of them have had in a long time. They had been itching for this moment since they began their journey with Kimiko. This moment was just what the figurative doctor ordered.

It was as if time stood still for the two women as they made their move. Each woman drew her previously hidden hold-out blasters and began tearing it up. Within seconds, the closest servants were on the ground with smoldering holes in their skulls.

Kimiko sat stunned, as did most of the room around them, as the carnage ensued. But soon, the hazes lifted, the servants began firing back, those who were unarmed scrambled for cover, and Kimiko leapt up, activating her saber staff, and began giving her companions cover from the incoming fire.

The king retreated towards the far door, screened by his security, visibly upset his plan at appeasing the First Order had blown up in his face. He signaled for those closest to him to leave.

But before he did, he issued an ultimatum,"To all those from the Outback and the Underground, I send my dearest regards! And to you, Kimiko, I will cash in on your prize...DEAD or ALIVE!" he cackled maniacally as he left.

Ki knew what they had to do now, and took no time passing the mission on to her allies within the room,"Chika, Kanan! We must not let him leave the planet! Everyone else, pick up a weapon and stay here!"

The mission had changed, and gotten that much more dangerous...this should be fun...

The woman licked her lips, now she had two powerful Force users in her sights. But the second was her current leader's lover. She wouldn't let it compromise things however. Bryce was her primary objective...and he would not escape.

She stood from her position and casually walked into plain view of the two before laughing evilly,"Greeting mere mortals! Tremble in fear, as your doom, the Fallen Angel Yohane, descends upon you! Now it is up to you to decide if you will go quietly into the night..." she looked at them with a terrifying glare,"...or make my day that much more exciting."

Bryce looked down at his wrist come and saw if he didn't hurry he would be late. Looking around he saw a taxi droid coming down the dusty street. Flagging it down he climbed into the rickshaw and ordered the droid to take him to 9th and tumbleweed lane.

"Look gotta run, comm me later so we can talk over lunch or something, bye!"

Any with that the droid sped off down the street with Bryce in tow.

As the door slid closed behind the King, another door slid open, a loud bang emenating fro it, striking one of the few reamining servants. Knife in one hand, slugthrower in another, the Rogue walked in, weapon raised, two more shots sounding off as he double tapped another servant in the chest. A swift arcing movement with his arm, and suddenly the knife sprouted from the last's chest. "Everyone alright?"

"We have only one condition: that you perform all repairs listed on the inspector report before any lease can begin"

"Wesa can agree on all of disen terms. Now, if yousa can be so kind as to have usen taken a looky at yoursa property tax bill?"

"Oh well, Gungan, if you want the latest property tax bill, so be it"

The owner of the mall hands Ugohr the latest tax bill, which Ugohr frantically searches for the assessed value. If the property tax bill says that the mall is worth 4 million, then the mall would be insured for that amount: all-inclusive insurance plans as sold by IGR for real estate property covers the full value of the building, too. In the real estate world, for brokerage or for insurance, the property tax bill is a crucial component of the game: often the value of a property as listed on a property tax bill is important, for insurance and for pricing purposes. The starting point for most sellers is right where the property tax bill indicates where it would be, or within 5%. Also, any cadaster changes requiring welcome taxes to be paid requires the final price of sale for assessing the tax bills most of the time unless one is in a "flat-sum" or "tax-free" town. He knew, however, that Gungan towns were often "flat-sum" towns in that respect, in the sense that everyone pays a base-fee plus another differential fee for non-Gungans.

RNS Jubilee exited hyperspace over Zonju Five. An unintimidating frigate, the Jubilee had a whimsical, hunched-wing design that strongly suggested it wasn't a warship. Closer inspection would note that it didn't have much in the way of weapons or defenses. The Jubilee slid into the atmosphere of Zonju Five, ignoring the bustling activity in orbit. The frigate had a pair of tasks, and nothing else to do: deliver two shuttles' worth of archaeologists to a certain canyon, and scan the utter feth out of the site.

Ajira covered her mouth and nose with a scarf as the Jubilee passed over her. The frigate pivoted and settled to the ground just out of her line of sight, above the canyon's lip. Two shuttles entered the canyon a moment later, and touched down not far from her and her ship. A couple of dozen archaeologists and support staff filed out and began unloading their gear. Some were human, others Gungans in moisture-retention suits. They'd all been briefed on her discovery; they'd all seen the footage that she and Professor Tarpals had collected. Tarpals himself was still en route on a second research vessel, but as far as she was aware, these were his respected colleagues.

She kept her distance: they knew their business, and she had no real desire to be involved at this stage. Easily enough, they would find what she'd found.

Ugohr knew that the fiscal red tape was not the same: if the strip mall is insured for 4 million, yet Ugohr buys the mall for 2 million, what problems would that cause beyond the taxation aspect? Sure the tax bill will be cut in half, and that gives IGR some room to breathe when it comes to operating the mall, but he produces an act of purchase and sale that the notary of the owners will promptly sign and stamp as soon as the old and new owners sign the act of purchase and sale. Congratulations: the Gungan just bought a strip mall on Zonju 5 for IGR!

"Now da time has come for usen to hire thosen contractors dat will perform disen repairs on disen mall"

Objective: Establish A Night Club

Maria decided to start working on the establishment of the Nightclub. As soon as she arrived in the construction sight, it had already begun, local builders working in tandom with Golden Entertainment to open their first nightclub deep in the Outer Rim. While it wasn't exactly the best of her tastes, where others saw a wasteland, Maria saw it as an opportunity to build an enterprise here, as she believed the influx of companies would most certainly boost the planetary economy, but she wasn't willing to get in an economics discussion.

"Welcome Ms. Vosk." an individual said. The young businesswoman nodded, and she decided it was time to immediately began working..

"How long will this take to be completed."

"It will take a while Ms. Vosk. Our schedule will require you to bring in more workers."

"Then redouble your efforts, and leave the rest to me." she said, as she saw the construction continue.

Astril had heard that a subsidiary of Drakos Systems, Golden Entertainment had also set up shop here. She wondered if Krayzen was going to do the same thing, but stopped caring, as she trusted the Anzati to be able to run his business well without interfering in what she was doing for Nova Corp.

Astril had been going to different planets to observe the construction of new mines for Nova Corp. Ever since they slowly began to mine aurodium, the company's profits had risen exponentially, as a pocket of aurodium was worth 3 billion credits. Astril however knew diversification was important, so she had to start working on building new mines, just in case they had finished the reserves in their particular location.

That wasn't why she was back here on Zonju V though; the young business woman had decided to build another mine in order to fuel Nova Corp's expansion in the Core Worlds, and other parts of the galaxy.

"Transmitting IFF tags." she said, as she awaited for clearance. She then began to land her yatch.

It was time to begin.

Over the next few months, through the miracle of space contracting, the cantina slowly began to take form along dozens of other structures. With mining companies showing up to put down roots came workers, men would needed a place to blow of some steam and kick back with some drinks after work. Hopefully, the carefully designed structure would see good business.

While Heartbeat was known for being shiny and pink, The Aurodia Cantina was a bit rougher in design. There were no baby pink walls, no comfy cream colored cushions, no pretty mood lighting. While clean—largely because it was new—Aurodia was more industrial toned, with dusty greys, golds, blues and browns.

“Didn’t think you had it in you.” Ivan mused as he sat at the bar next to Joza. It was nearing the end of the work day, so there weren’t many patrons in the cantina—soon, however, there’d probably a rush. They’d only opened about a week ago, and already businesses seemed to do well in the evening hours into the late night.

“I’m full of surprises.” Joza mused against the mouth of her martini glass before taking a sip, almost snickering at the cheesy line. “But yeah, I put research into building this place. Took a page from Igor’s.” Igor’s was a terrible take-out food place she’d purchased in the Corellian sector of Nar Shaddaa. It housed an underground safe house that harbored escaped slaves.

Ivan chuckled, more amicable now that he had a couple of beers in him. “Yeah, this place isn’t chitty like Igor’s.” He waved a hand towards the bar. “Decent selection of drinks and the food isn’t total crap. Which I think is on purpose.” He swirled his mug of ale idly, arching a brow at the Zeltron.

"Lady Cardei?"

Ajira blinked herself awake. Despite the familiar voice, her very first instinct was to check that her Quey'tek concealment remained intact. It did. "What is it, Shambleau?"

The Mikan's outline stirred in the doorway of Ajira's cabin. "The archaeologists are bringing something out of the canyon."

Ajira slipped her legs over the side of her bunk and wrapped a shawl around her shoulders. "What?"

"An unusual find. It frightened some of them. The comm relays are lighting up, on this ship and the science vessel."

An H9 patrol corvette didn't have much in the way of room, but she'd lived in tighter confines. She thanked Shambleau, dressed quickly, and headed for the comm suite.
