Private A New Era for New Cov

Fortunately the conversation was shifted to a topic that I knew more about. I did not want to discover what I was missing out on. Afterall it might cause me to want it. I feel it to be much in the same way of my lack of the ability to see color. I do not know what I am missing out on. If I was to witness color for even a small moment, well I may find myself unable to focus on anything else.

I cannot have that distraction.

Another spoonful of stew is swallowed down as I think best of how to respond to her questions. Such a unique position, indeed. More often than not New Cov has been looked over or bypassed entirely. And that had not entirely been a bad thing. "I do not see it as a threat, no. Our neutrality has kept us well protected. As has our lack of drawing attention to ourselves. We do not hold what either sides of the conflict desire. And ever since the attempted siege, our defences have grown quite well. I am confident that will hold off any future attempts quite well. There are far bigger targets than New Cov out there."

Valery nodded slowly as she listened, her amber eyes sharp with thought. Liin's confidence in New Cov's neutrality and defenses was reassuring, but her own experiences in the galaxy had taught her to tread carefully, especially when it came to seemingly small or overlooked places. She took a sip of her drink, savoring the warmth it offered before setting it down with a faint clink.

"Neutrality can be a powerful shield," she began, her tone thoughtful, "But it also relies heavily on the assumption that others will respect it." Her gaze softened slightly, and she offered a small, reassuring smile. "It sounds like New Cov has done a remarkable job of maintaining that balance, though. Strengthened defenses, staying out of the spotlight — those are wise moves in a galaxy that's constantly shifting."

She paused, her fingers tracing the edge of her mug. "Still, there's always a risk. Even small or seemingly insignificant places can become targets if circumstances change. Resources, strategic positioning, or even a grudge — the galaxy doesn't always make sense when it comes to conflict."

Valery leaned back slightly, her posture relaxed but her expression earnest. "I hope your confidence proves true, though. The galaxy could use more places like New Cov — stable on its own and focused on their own well-being rather than being pulled into someone else's wars."

Neutrality is a perfect shield, indeed. For most of New Cov's existance, we have been on our own. There were some points in history of course, where the Empire and the Vong had held control over my home. But those moments in time were short lived and New Cov had often quickly gained it's independence. We were never a strategic point in any battle which is very fortunate, indeed!

"New Cov has no enemies and neither do I. Our resource is also not so well known. Even the trade embargo against the Dark Empire that NCBC is a signatory of has gained us no notice, for we had no business with that government anyways. Or any of the large governments for that matter. I feel that losing our independence will only make us a seemingly easy target between the warring governments. So the longer that we can maintain it, the better." I take another spoonful of my stew, finishing the bowl off before I add in another thought. "Although if anyone was to even attempt to attack New Cov, we will be ready for it."

Valery nodded thoughtfully as she listened, her amber eyes steady on Liin. The more she heard about New Cov, the more she appreciated its unique position in the galaxy. It wasn't often that a planet could maintain such a delicate balance of independence and neutrality for so long, especially amidst the constant turmoil of galactic politics and war.

"It sounds like New Cov has carved out a niche that not many others could replicate," she said, her tone respectful. "To stay independent and unnoticed in a galaxy that often demands sides... that's no small feat." She did wonder if New Cov's hand would ever get forced in the future, but that wasn't a problem for now.

She reached for her drink again and took a small sip as she steadied herself, "Thank you for bringing me here, by the way. I've grown up on this planet but there's still a lot I haven't seen. It's refreshing."

I long to give her a small shrug of my shoulders, yet I refrain from doing so, lest it appeared to be dismissive. To me the very idea of remaining neutral and unnoticed was an easy one. For when one does not have what the super governments demand; it renders them invisible. Much like how I am on an intergalactic scale.

I follow that thought up with a bowing of my head. The two of us were similar in that regard; in not seeing much. But elsewhere Miss Noble has seen plenty more. She has done battle and more than likely has killed a lot of people too. And she has married, started a family, travelled the Galaxy. All of those except for a small portion of the latter were of things that I could only dream of.

The very idea of me in battle was laughable, indeed!

I push my dishes aside and wipe the corners of my mouth with a napkin. "You are most welcome. If ever you need to find peace, this is the place to be."

Valery smiled warmly at Liin's words, her amber eyes reflecting a quiet appreciation. "I can see that," she said softly, her tone carrying a note of gratitude.

She finished the last sip of her drink and gently set the glass down, her movements deliberate and calm. The serene atmosphere of the planet had worked its way into her, a welcome reprieve from the chaos that often surrounded her life as a Jedi. She looked at Liin, her smile softening.

"Thank you, Liin. For sharing this time with me and for showing me a side of New Cov I hadn't seen before." Her words were sincere, carrying an undercurrent of warmth and respect.

As if on cue, the waitress returned, her presence breaking the moment with a friendly smile. "Everything alright? Shall I bring the check?"

Valery nodded politely.

The waitress placed a small datapad on the table and stepped back with a courteous bow, giving them privacy to handle the payment. Valery glanced at Liin, her smile returning as she reached for the pad.

I give her a small chuckle as I respond with; "Well it does pay to step out from the jungles every once in a while. Life under the domes is a much more pleasant experience." Most especially as we do not have to be on constant watch of being hunted by the fauna while we are under the safety of the domes.

I give the waitress a nod when she asks to bring the check. And no sooner had she placed the datapad down that my guest made a reach for it. Oh no! This will not do. I scoop it up with sweep of my hand, keeping a soft yet firm grip on it so that she cannot use her Force magic to steal it from my hands. "Ah ah ah, you are my guest and it would be very uncouth of me if I was to have you take care of the bill. Now please, the lunch is on me."

Valery blinked in mild surprise as Liin deftly snatched the datapad from her reach, the smoothness of the motion and the firm but polite tone catching her off guard. A faint smirk tugged at the corner of her lips as she leaned back slightly, her arms crossing loosely over her chest.

"Alright," she said with an amused chuckle, her amber eyes glinting playfully. "You win this time. But," she added, her tone shifting to one of mock seriousness, "I get to pay for our lunch the next time we meet. Deal?"

She tilted her head slightly, her smirk softening into a warm smile. "It's only fair. I can't let you be the generous one all the time."

Valery gestured lightly toward the datapad, indicating her acceptance of Liin's gesture. "Thank you, though. For lunch, and for the conversation. I'm glad I came to visit."

I give her a polite nod in regards to allowing her to pay for lunch the next time. However protocol dictates that the guest never pays, and I doubt very much that I would be invited to her Temple. It is not my place for I am not a Force Wizard by any means. I have no more magic ability within me than some droid did. So more often than not, she is bound to being my guest.

"You are most welcome. I thought it best to keep you informed of the changes coming so that they would have the least amount of impact to you, rather than having you being caught off guard. Although I do believe that the changes shall be implimented quite easily enough." The only ones that I can think of that could take issues with the split of NCBC and the government were of the two members of the Board of Directors that had expressed their objection to the idea. But I can only hope that they follow along with the Board's decision and not cause any discourse.

I pay for the meal and hand the waitress the datapad. I make no move to slide myself out of the booth yet as protocol dictates that I should await my guest to do so first.
