Madalena let a little laughter out when Josh delivered the description of his dream. "That sounds like a good dream," she admitted, still leaning against the door, "I'd like to have that dream. Gingerbread is disgusting."

Her turn? She sighed.

"Did you ever watch that weird holomovie, 'the never-ending story'?" she asked, "it's about this place that's threatened to be removed by something called the Nothing, and some kid has to save the magical lands from it. They say there's a book too, but I've never read it."

With her shoulders ever slightly hunched, she finally walked out of the bathroom. She wanted to drink. She needed to drink, her throat was parched. There would probably be water in the fridge.

"I dreamed that something similar to that was coming after me. But it was pitch black instead of gray, and I couldn't run fast enough."

They were in the kitchen. Madalena grabbed a water bottle out of the fridge and drained it. She wanted more.

"And then there was this... Girl? Woman? She was there, and she was standing between me and that Nothing-thing," she said before pausing to drain another water bottle. It cleared her head a little. She felt slightly less worse, "But she didn't look... Like she was made out of the same stuff we are. She looked like she was made out of different colors of marble, but there were cracks all over her, like if I threw a pebble or something on her, she'd shatter and break easier than glass. And she was still standing between me and the Nothing-thing, and it looked like she was holding it back. And then..."

Madalena sighed. It sounded so silly. "And then she looked at me, and she had eyes like mine, but they were glowing much harder. She turned back to the black stuff and suddenly I was scared, I was terrified. Not from the nothing-thing, but for the girl. That's when I started screaming in the dream."

Someone with her eyes...

Scherezade?

Her plan was strange. He didn’t understand it. He wanted to explain what was going on to her but he knew it would only cause damage and odds are, Scherezade would kill him for it if she came back. So all he could do was keep quiet.

“Sounds like a hell of a dream” He would admit. “Think it means anything?”

Madalena carefully studied Josh's face, trying to find a clue in there. She didn't know why she was doing it; what would he know about such a nightmare anyway? It was new and strange to her, so how could it mean anything to him?

Apparently, his thoughts mirrored hers, because he asked about it directly.

"That I have too much free time and my mind wanders?" she asked, trying to laugh. But somehow, it didn't really feel like a funny subject, "I don't know. It felt real. But I guess that's the nature of nightmares, isn't it?"

“You were screaming and scared my kid” He pointed out. “I don’t know if that’s the nature of nightmares.”

Shrugging it off, he would grab a water from the fridge and take it down. “At the least, Jason and Porgbert are asleep for now, so things’ll be quiet” He remarked. “Unless you have plans for another episode today?” He joked.

[member="Scherezade deWinter"]

Madalena was glad the two were asleep. She'd been so terrified for scaring them, and guilty as well, even though she hadn't meant to do any of it at any point. Josh tried to make light of the situation, but she just shook her head.

[SIZE=11pt]"Times like these make me wish I could stomach coffee," she shrugged.[/SIZE]

“Could try” He joked in turn with a shrug. “You seem the type who’d dig a bit of experimentation” He then teased, firing her a playful wink in turn.

“Seriously though, don’t worry about it. Today’s your celebration day, remember?” Josh would remind her as he would place the water bottle down on the table. “Don’t sweat it too much. We can deal with the Jason issue over dinner.”

[member="Scherezade deWinter"]

"I've experimented," she teased him right back, "it's always too bitter or too sweet, and the texture is horrible. I tried forcing myself to drink it more than once and kept needing to spit it out. Not to mention it made me sweat like a nerf. Sweating outside of training or fighting is icky."

As Josh placed his bottle down, Madalena refilled hers and emptied it. It felt so good to drink the clear water, as though her body was craving it. It was... both pleasant and unpleasant at the same time.

"I don't think there's a Porg stuffie big enough to make him get over it fast enough," she admitted, "I really scared him."

[member="Josh DragonsFlame"]

He laughed a bit at the experimenting jokes. “What other sort of things have you experimented with?” He teased, wrapping an arm around her playfully and shooting her a cheeky grin, trying not to laugh further. Though to be serious, her coffee issue seemed fairly normal. He was like that too. He didn’t really drink coffee. Could never get it down.

“I mean, no shock, Maddie. You screamed from the top of your lungs in close range to a timid two year old” Josh pointed out. “It was kind of a given.”

[member="Scherezade deWinter"]

"Tea," she said, completely ignoring the innuendo, "I don't understand why anyone would want to heat up and the ruin an otherwise perfect glass of innocent water," but there were more examples, "chocolate milk is also awful. Juices are too sweet. I just drink water, and sometimes cream."

Josh pointed the very obvious out about Jason. "I didn't know I was screaming!" she said again with frustration, "when I woke up and realized I was, I stopped. The first thing I did before even checking myself was to apologize to Jason!"

But Jason was two year olds. He would not understand. He would just remember that she was the lady that scared him.

[member="Josh DragonsFlame"]

Pooh. “I like juices and milk” He responded with a shrug. “But hey, whatever floats your tugboat.”

It was true that she didn’t know but what did she expect him to do? He was two. And she’d screamed. It was kind of obvious the result. “He’s two” He spoke. “He just needs to see you as the nice lady again. Might even do that by the end of today if you just pay attention to him.”

Kids could be impressionable after all.

[member="Scherezade deWinter"]

"I always pay attention to him," she frowned. Didn't she? Josh's emphasizes were... A little strange. "And I'm not going to stop unless it turns out that I'm hurting him. If that happens I'm stepping back. But I hope I never make such horrible mistakes."

[member="Josh DragonsFlame"]

“He’s two. Just keep at it and when he’s three it’ll probably lock in that you’re trustworthy” Josh would suggest in turn. “Doesn’t take much to scare a two year old into being afraid of you. It’s a given” He explained as he would look back on the couch to check on them.

“Just don’t worry about it for now. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Minus the screaming, I mean.”

[member="Scherezade deWinter"]

He nodded in turn. “Probably should” He said. He wasn’t sure about that. The darkness was not gone. Perhaps Scherezade had planned around that? She knew the wipe would not make it go away. So what plan did she have in mind to sleep?

“Besides, you got time to still make an impression on him” He comforted with a smirk as he noted that about Jason. “You’re not going anywhere anytime soon, right?”

[member="Scherezade deWinter"]

"I'm going back to the Confederacy soon," she reminded him and sighed. She hoped she could fix Jason before she had to leave again. "I still don't know what my schedule is after I start though. It might be a week or two or more before I can visit you guys again."

[member="Josh DragonsFlame"]

Perhaps [member="Jyoti Nooran"] could help with continuing to research the Darkness as Scherezade no longer could. They could not leave it be to claim an unsuspecting Madalena, after all since she as she was now could not do anything to stop it on her own.

“Mmm, fair point” He responded. “Though try not to spoil him with gifts too much...” He trailed off. “His birthday is next month. Do it then” He cracked with a grin.

[member="Scherezade deWinter"]

At the mention of Jason's birthday, Madalena blinked, looking confused. Jason's birthday. She was supposed to know it was next month, but she did not. Quickly, she grabbed her small bag and brought her holodevice out of it, flicking through the calendar. There was no mention of it there anywhere.

"I'm so sorry Josh," she apologized, her cheeks reddening. This was wrong on so many levels, "I know I should know that but I'm drawing a blank and I don't have it on my calendar. I should've had it in the calendar sice he was born. I'm so sorry..."

[member="Josh DragonsFlame"]

He smiled a bittersweet smile. Of course she wouldn’t. Scherezade had never asked. He had no clue if she had this level of care for him back then or if she had programmed it into these memories.

“It’s fine” He promised. “I mean, now you know, right?”

[member="Scherezade deWinter"]

Madalena handed her holodevice to Josh. "Put the exact date in there," she outright ordered him. She'd add reminders and notifications later. And she'd have to think about what to bring him. "Would a cake that has hundreds of porgs flying out of it be good enough?"

[member="Josh DragonsFlame"]

Josh would smirk and nod his head, taking the holopad and writing down the date for her, writing down “Jason’s 3rd Birthday” as a little reminder of what it was. He didn’t she needed to feel bad, people forgot birthdays all the time? At least she remembered a month ahead. It could have been worse. Not that he had expected her to remember...

“What do you mean by flying out of the cake?” He asked It was Scherezade. He had to ask if she meant literally.
