He was pulled into a hug.

And his immediate reaction was to try and throw a knee for where he'd punched, but he stopped himself just shy as he realized there wasn't any danger. And, instead, a hug? He blinked slowly before a smile returned to his focused expression and he hugged her in turn.

"I'll get stronger than dad so I can protect you all." He nodded as he stepped back, smiling a proudly. "That's my goal."

Valery could tell he was about to plant his knee into her gut, and blinked for just a moment. But when his little arms wrapped around her instead, she began to smile again. Her hand settled on his head to ruffle his hair, and when they pulled back, she was smiling proudly as well. For a first lesson, he had already learned so much, and it could only make her wonder just how much more he was going to improve.

She'd have to keep up this training with him.

"Yeah? Stronger than dad, huh? He's veeeery strong, but I'm sure you can do it," she encouraged with a big, wide grin. "Until then, mom and dad will always protect you, too. Nobody gets to mess with our family." She looked at her son with that same smile still, and gently nudged him towards the door.

"Come on, let's go get you some hot cocoa now."

With that, Valery took him to the kitchen, and went through the lengthy process to make the best hot cocoa she could. Right on time too, as Kahlil and Vera finished up their training. Now he'd be able to see their son's reaction to mom's hot cocoa. Valery flashed her husband a grin for it already, and looked between him and Vera.

"How was training, love?"

Aris nodded once. Seriously so at that. Nobody messed with their family. He'd do what he could to make sure of that no less.

Though his attention was quickly and utterly consumed by the hot cocoa he was provided. He stared in wonderment as he took his first sip, then just smiled a little. Kahlil came back shortly after, chuckling as he glanced between the two.

"As good as always. Vera is keeping up quite well these days." He paused though, as Aris stepped over to stare rather intently at him. Kahlil blinked before offering a calm smile.

"Yes Aris?"

"Mom's cocoa is better."

"I did good!" Vera exclaimed excitedly before she noticed that Aris has cocoa. All at once, she had a look of pure jealousy, but Valery was quick to address it by sliding over another cup. She wasn't just going to reward her son, after all. With abhappy grin, Vera took the drink and tried it out.

Her eyes went wide.

But while Vera was in her own, happy little world, Aris was suddenly staring at his dad. Valery blinked and looked between the two...before he declared his conclusion. She burst out in laughter and wrapped her arms gently around Aris, "Gooood, I'm glad you love it, sweetie."

Vera blinked, looked at her drink, and giggled. "Maybe but don't try mommy's pancakes. She burns them a lot."

"Hey!" Valery protested. "Not true. Mine are good but dad's are just...special. Right, dad?"

"Dad's pancakes are better."

Aris nodded in confirmation before Kahlil could even speak up, who was busy laughing at just how blunt their son really was with them both. It wasn't a little chuckle, but a full on laugh as he set about pouring himself something to drink.

"Well, there you have it I suppose."

"Dad's pancakes are better."

Even though she knew it to be true, Valery pouted a little. Kahlil still held an advantage over her in spars, was the better pilot with the Bastion especially, and the better cook now too. Her competitive nature couldn't allow this, so she had to pick new battles for the fun of it all. Beating him at making hot cocoa for the kids was a good start.

"Well, since we've all done our morning training... why don't we go out somewhere?" Valery proposed with a warm smile. "It'll take a while before the festival here is planned out, but we could go somewhere new maybe?" She really just wanted to spend time with the family, and make Aris feel like a part of it.

They had taken some days off, so they'd have to make the most of it.

"Not today, I think. We can go on all kinds of places tomorrow."

Today, they could just stay home and relax. Together, as a family. Then it could be adventure time. He smiled, looking to Aris as he sipped his hot cocoa with a brief smile. This was good. He reached out to ruffle Aris's hair for a brief moment.

They wer family now. All of them.

He made a good point.

"Well, why don't we do a picnic in the garden here behind our own house?" Valery had spent a lot of time picking the right flowers, plants and decorations to make it feel like it belonged here. It smelled amazing, it looked fantastic and she was certain they could all find some peace there.

"Vera and Aris can play outside, the triplets can freely crawl around and we can watch them and just chat a little." She stepped towards her husband and reached for his hand, to gently squeeze it.

"Just family time."
