ATC DATA LOG FILE | Corellia

Her melodic chuckle would resonate within the shuttle's cabin as she slipped into a seat beside him. Her hand came to rest just above his own, giving it a small caress in mild affection.

"Perhaps, Lord Ovmar," she replied gently, those hazel eyes glowing in gentle playfulness. That was the difference with Saffron you see. There were no expectations with a Companion, she only acted in a manner that she believed would be best for her escort. It was very much her own personality as it was the training the Oiran Guildhouse had provided her.

The shuttle gave a small shudder, engines barely emitting a low whine. It was part of the special engine package made by Theed Hangers.

Within moments, they were airborne. The trip would not take long, but they had ample time to discuss matters if they so chose.

They were going through the atmosphere rather than head out of orbit and sling shooting towards their location. Less risky and it would provide a smoother experience.

They were, after all, going into a field with fluctuating gravitational anomalies.

This is Ta Vei, geologist for PharmaTech under the purview of the Eden Project.

It appears that there is a higher amount of Isotope5 than previously expected. This is a troublesome discovery as there is the potential that the anomaly may spread to other areas of Corellia if not contained. For now, we believe that the reason it has only just come to light is due to the extraordinary circumstances in the wake of the Netherworld.

Much like Makeb, it is very possible that Corellia’s core has large deposits of Isotope5. With the history and the lessons learned on Makeb, it is very likely that any deep core mining may unstabilize the planet more. It is our recommendation that no Isotope5 mining occur on Corellia for the safety and security of the Corellian people and of ongoing terraforming activities.

They sat in silence for a while.

He enjoyed it.

There was just something about comfortable silence without the pressure or need to fill it with words. And then the baritone of his voice wove itself into the silence, words forming and it felt just natural.

That was what he had been looking for.

"The Galaxy as we know it cannot be easily penetrated, in or out, this has become moderately common knowledge." Ovmar began, eyes still closed and settling himself into a rhythm of story. "There are ways, known only to a bare few people."

"There's a lot of empty space- space that hasn't been traversed in centuries, but then... then you travel far enough to reach other places."

Saffron quietly let him continue, a ghost of a smile hanging on her lips. Subtle encouragement was given with the occasional incline of her head, along with the graze of her hand on top of his own. Intrigue would reflect in her eyes, providing a small cant of her head to the right as she listened to his tale.

Hearing him describe it may make one believe that he was making it all up. That it was all just a string of hyperbole and ghostling tales. Saffron knew better. Saffron knew that there were things in the ‘verse that could not be easily explained. Even by the Force.

The small pendant of Inari hung between her breasts, a simple silver medallion. However, the representation of it was of far more worth. Was Inari of the Moross pantheon real or not? That didn’t matter. What mattered was having an idea of something grander.

Their shuttle would zip up and into the clouds, pale pink puffs that quickly transformed into long streaks. It was as if a hand had brushed over them, spilling them out across that pale blue sky.
Saffron was intrigue to find out how Jared had done what he’d done, but that was for him to say, not her to ask.

The trip would begin smoothly, but the closer they came to Black Gold Beach and the Sahsahlah Mountains, the gravitational disturbances by the isotope 5 would prompt turbulence.

This is Amelia Quin, Xenologist for PharmaTech under the purview of the Eden Project.

Our team has been working side by side with Doctor Vei’s geological team. The discovery of Isotope5 has been groundbreaking news, not only for the terraforming but for the amount of fauna and flora that have survived the initial spliting.

We have managed to sent teams to the various floating pillars and have found pockets of caverns and areas that the local Corellian wildlife managed to find in order to survive. We are currently cataloging and tagging the remaining wildlife for a proper count.

As it is, this new environment may very well stimulate a new evolution in order to adapt. We have already seen an influx of birds and flying animals that could potentially have something to do with the shift in gravitational anomalies.

A smirk started tugging at the corner of his mouth.

"Ah, as for how." Some got unnerved when he did that. This inherent talent to weed out exactly what people thought or wanted, that mentalism which allowed him to look into someone's deepest secrets without much of an issue. Half of the time he didn't even need prod hard, didn't even need to burrow deep- most people didn't guard their mind all that well.

Saff was different, of course. Her mind... very peculiar.

Jared like the touch of it, so warm, genuine, peaceful. It wasn't a thing he came across all that often in this Galaxy. Too many people hiding a shade of darkness inside of them.

"Perhaps I will share that over dinner sometime." Eyes opened themselves, blues smirking even harder now. "If you would do me that honor, of course."

[member="Jared Ovmar"].

“Always such a charmer, Lord Ovmar.” Saffron would coo, giviing a small chuckle. The bit of joy and amusement that would bathe her features said that she was already won over, but none the less she said it aloud.

“I suppose that dinner could be on the table. We do have a facility on the Sahsahlah mountains.” she explained. It was actually an Eden Project Biodome. While smaller than the more traditional ones, it still maintained a headquarters, spaceport, research and development facilities, residence halls, and of course, shops, mess halls, and conference rooms. That didn’t include the expansive plots and research sites scattered around where researchers continuously took note of the ever changing landscape and the fauna.

“One of our Eden Project Biodomes is there.” she explained. It was the local center for all research, to include the ever curious deposits of Isotope5. While ATC didn't mine it on a commercial scale, it studied the effect it had on the Black Gold beaches.

This is Amelia Quin, Xenologist for PharmaTech under the purview of the Eden Project. I have contacted Doctor Veronika Nova, an associate from G.U.I.D.E to aide us in cataloging the flora on the Sahsahlah Mountains. That is the term that the local Corellians have taken to colloquially naming the natural wonder. Doctor Nova is an excellent Xenobiology with a speciality in Xenobotany. Her mate, Doctor Iestyn Nova, will also be joining us.

It appears that the deposits of Isotope 5 were far larger than originally perceived. Most of what we have found are scattered across the Black Gold beaches and floating along the pillars. We believe that in the most unstable part of BlackGold beach could very well be the largest deposit. No commerical mining is recommended, and I am pleased to say that Miz Arceneau also agrees.

Our aim is to reconstruct Corellia, not exploit it.

[member="Saffron"]

"Sounds like a date then." Ovmar responded before leaning back against his seat again, his eyes closing to relax.

At least that was the surface-level. In truth Jared was still pondering about the ramifications of Isotope-5 on Corellia. It could change a lot in the Core- ATC, IS and ICE might not be looking into mining it for commercial reasons just yet.... but.

Would the Corellians be that restrained?

It was a worry for him. It could change the entire field.

"You have something on your mind." Saffron would comment quietly. While she was no mind reader, her empathic abilities made it so that she could pick up on the emotional cues that radiated from the former Lord of the Fringe.

"I can promise you," she continued, attempting to make a little quip, "that the food will not be unpalatable." the curve her her lips would broaden, hazel eyes turning to peer through the viewport to her left.

Thick, pale pink clouds now began to litter the skies. They were getting close. A thick mist seemed to linger around the Gold Beaches, with a few rare days of clarity. On those few occasions, one could still see the expanse of bright, shining gold from the remnants of the beach that remain.

Once they hit the turbulence, they'd know they were getting close. That was the isotope - 5 at work.

The Corellian System
Arceneau Trade Company | PharmaTech
Datalog H32-B74

This is Amelia Quin, Xenobiologist for the Eden Project. We have made several excursions towards the Sahsahlah Floating Mountains, and it appears that the full scope of the terraforming project may have to take more special precautions with the Isotope 5 causing the gravitational anomalies.

Haven Shipyards has partnered with Theed Hangers to create a special craft that may shuttle our crews and supplies into Black Gold beaches and the Sahsahlah mountains. The gravitational fluxes along with the charting of the terrain make it difficult for the standard craft. Instruments are unreliable, and with smaller debris floating, the need for oscillating repulsors is necessary.

For now, we can only make trips in daylight and when weather permits VFR.

Amusement curled around the edges and almost blunted away the caution, but only almost. The truth was that a man like Ovmar was always prone to one worry or another, not when he had been younger, no- those days... ah, they seemed so far away now. But then, as Lord of the Fringe, he had known no worries. He did, he acted, he conquered and all else be damned.

It was different now.

Not because Jared was a better man, all of a sudden. He was a still a Sith Lord, still one whose life was about manipulation and tugging at the cords, but there was just a smudge of understanding. Understanding of what the cost was for all the things he had done.

Would he do the same things again, if given the choice?

He thought so, but he wouldn't enjoy them as much as he did back then.

"I am pondering on how the balance of power might change, if and when the Corellians discover Isotope-5 on their planet." Ovmar responded finally, earnestly. It was a rare thing when he was completely forthcoming with his thoughts, but this was [member="Saffron"]. It was different. "It worries me, quite frankly."

[member="Jared Ovmar"]

Blonde brows rose, but her smile would remain. He had figured it out? Of course he would. Blinking slowly, she gave a small cant of her head to regard the former Lord of the Fringe.

"Hmmm... We are working on keeping it on a need to know basis so far." Saffron admitted. "Mrs. Arceneau is of the mind that Corellia has already suffered enough. There isn't a need to push corporate mining here. It isn't her intention or would she have it under her watch." which was something to say consider the One Sith still had the Corellian Sector under their purview.

"That isn't even including just what may happen if Sahsahlah was mined on a large scale. Makeb and it's near destruction already made that clear on what could happen."

An inclination of a head to acknowledge the latter point made.

"Let's not forget the Sith of old managed to stabilize Makeb- presumably, if the mining was done carefully... it could be avoided." Those who had known Ovmar before, would probably have interpreted his words as a desire for opportunity. But [member="Saffron"] would know better than that, considering the finger she had on his emotional pulse.

"The rest of the Galaxy - and most importantly the Corellians - won't."

It was true that Arceneau's word had much weight in all parts of the Galaxy. Few if any would dare to defy her, especially when Makeb was somewhat free to be mined these days with the Red Ravens gone and buried.

But that said little about the Corellians themselves. If they wanted that Isotope-5, for revenge against the Sith or otherwise, they would take it and if Arceneau would stand in the way? She might just be declared an enemy, instead of a friend. All good deeds forgotten and swept away in the fury of the moment.

"How many are aware there are floating mountains here about?"

[member="Jared Ovmar"]

"Sahsahlah Mountains are considered to be sacred," Saffron informed Jared, only to tense a bit as the shuttle began to shake. It started with a fine tremor, only to increase in magnitude with the turbulence.

Her fingers turned white in holding fast to her arm rests. She knew well that this was to be expected, the gravitational flux would prompt that turbulence. It did not mean, however, that she would be well used to it.

A strained smile shot over to the Lord.

"It still is troubling everytime..." she murmured, apologizing.

"The surviving Corellians are of the same mind. It is why Mrs. Arceneau is respecting their desires -- not to mention, with the ongoing terraforming, we cannot risk any changes or shifts to the gravitational fields. Who know what could happen if it were to spread elsewhere."

The thought that New Coronet or any of the smaller reconstructed communities could come to harm much like the cities of Makeb had back then permeated everything Arceneau Trade did on Sahsahlah.

[member="Saffron"]

His head shifted a fraction at that.

"Huh, is that so?" It was genuine surprise, but perhaps he shouldn't be. The Corellians were notoriously religious - at least portions of the population - with their own framework of gods, superstitions and beliefs. Ovmar would never understand it, of course. Religion wasn't his thing, which was surprising at some point, considering his reputation as a Sith Lord amongst certain strata of galactic society.

"I suppose that works out then, no?"

The tension did not escape his notice when it came. It was almost instinctively that he took her hand in his, squeezing just a bit to make her less anxious about the turbulence.

Did you know that usually any ships I am in end up crashing? No, that probably wasn't a good thing to mention at this point.

"I know the feeling, I have a similar issue."

[member="Jared Ovmar"]

Saffron returned with a small strained smile, only to give a sharp intake of breath as the shuttle seemed to dip suddenly before leveling.

"Perhaps it does," she replied, her voice a bit tense. One of the few times the Companion wasn't completely in control of her facilities, that typical expression of serenity exchanged for one with a slightly blanched appearance.

"Tell me... my lord," she began, perhaps in seeking a method to keep her mind occupied.

"About your Citadel."

If there was one thing, one thing, that Ovmar was good at it was the subtle mentalism of soothing.

Some mentalists thought that brute-forcing emotions, memories and illusions was what made you a Master. He knew better than that, it was about the subtlety of it all, about influencing someone without completely karking them beyond function. His hand tightened a fraction around hers, one more pinch of comfort.

Then his presence just subtly brushed past her. Trying to gently tug away at her anxiety and fear of the moment, trying to push at her feeling of bubbly happiness to heighten it.

"Better?" He asked gently, before thinking about the Citadel. It was their masterpiece, for him, for Irani, for ICE and Saiba. "We did this once already on Dromund Kaas- I tell ya that? Primeval contracted us out after they took control over the frozen ice ball. Larraq had crashed asteroids into it... rest is history."

"We have learned valuable lessons from that experience and this is our chance to do it again, but do it better. Make sure we don't kark anything up again."

The light in his eyes was absent, like he was thinking back at those days.

[member="Saffron"]

[member="Jared Ovmar"]

It worked miraculously. As if simply Saffron's anxiety had been cast out only to be smoothly replaced by a measure of joy. That in combination with his conversation, the thrum of his voice helping distract her, Saffron returned to a portion of her tranquility.

Her brows rose in mild surprise. That Lord Ovmar was a powerful Force user had never been a question; she just had never been subject to any of it before. At least, knowingly aware of it.

"Thank you," she replied, the gratefulness in her voice genuine. In turn, she gently squeezed his hand.

"How are you able to do that?" she couldn't help but ask, curiosity glimmering in her hazel eyes.

As if realizing she may have been too forward, she apologized. A faint rosy flush colored her cheeks.

"Forgive me," she'd plea for his pardon. "No, you did not discuss with me about another Citadel on Dromund Kaas."

[member="Saffron"]

His attention slowly returned from Dromund Kaas and he was quite intimately aware of her sudden distress. It amused him slightly, endeared her to him as well, she had always been a little ball of sunshine mixed with a creature of propriety.

Sometimes those two sides were in conflict, as the innocent part wished to explore knowledge dangled, while the drilled part vied to keep things above board.

"There is nothing to forgive, my dear." His other hand patted hers consolingly. "My entire life I have searched for more and more knowledge, to hold your attempt against you would be simply hypocritical of me."

"What would you like to know exactly?"
