Private BioTech and knowledge

I stepped slowly across the threshold, my eyes lingering on every detail of the room that had just been presented to me. My own office. My heart beat a little faster, a mix of excitement and gratitude washing over me.

"Thank you, that's perfect for the start" I said softly, turning to my host with a sincere smile.

"This is far more than I expected. It has everything I'll need to get started: shelves to organize my research, a space to sit and think, and even a small laboratory."

I approached the corner where the scientific equipment was set up, my fingers lightly brushing the surface of the desk.

"I'm not worried about the size. It's not the size of an office that matters, but what you accomplish in it, right? Director?"

I turned back to face him, my eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.

"I'm already eager to get started. If I can make even a small contribution to your projects, it will be an honor."

Then, after a brief pause, I shrugged slightly with a shy smile.

"But… if I can be honest, I'm especially excited to see these new laboratories once they're finished."

I'm keeping the location of the temporary office that was assigned to me, since I'll be working there often from now on, I'll have to honor it. I received the necessary accreditations on my datapad to open said door so that I can't find myself locked out.
I should be careful what I do now, a mistake in handling can be dangerous, the mini laboratory is more than enough for me to start creating funny things.

I watch her quietly while she examines the room. It is her own space for this short while and so it was best that she gets to be acquainted with it. I am sure that her next office space will be the same, albeit just a wee bit larger.

Again her enthusiasm causes me to chuckle a little. It makes me wonder if she would always be this enthusiastic, or would that lapse over time. I suppose that that is something that I will find out later on.

"You will be able to start in the morning. Only certain sections of the labs have people working in them around the clock. But yours is not one of them. You'll need your security clearance and lab identification cards created before then, which will not take long. Those will not be transferable to the new building, however. It will be a new and upgraded system altogether. Once those are ready, I will let you know."

I pause for a moment, gatheting my thoughts before speaking another question; "Have you any other questions for me before we go back to the lobby?"

I finally tear my gaze away from the room, a hint of a smile playing on my lips, before I look at you. This space, even if only temporary, seems full of promise, and I must admit, I'm already eager to dive into it. I know it's just a stepping stone, but opportunities like this—to create, to experiment—are something I truly savor.

Your question pulls me from my thoughts, and I take a moment to reflect on it.

"No, not for now," I say softly, almost as if thinking aloud.

"I suppose everything will take shape as I go. What I discover, what I'll build… it's a challenge, and I'm ready for it."

Then, a spark of amusement flashes in my eyes, and I continue with a smile.

"But I do have a small curiosity… How long did it take you to master all these systems, these procedures?"

I surprise myself by asking that last question, but it intrigues me. I suppose it's the chance to learn, even indirectly, from someone who has already walked this path. I am also surprised not to have more than that of particular schedules, even if I imagine that my salary will depend on the time spent in the laboratory, so in any case I plan to stay there for a while, I have lots of projects and the material provided by new cov will help me to settle in, moreover for meetings and appointments where my presence will be required, I will obviously be present.

Her words express much, but it is the overall work that will better display her talents. The work will speak for itself. The same can be said about politicians and even about Directors like myself. I do not just bark out orders, afterall. I enjoy my time within my lab creating new products with biomolecules that can better enhance them.

Her question catches me a bit by surprise for it has been some time since anyone had asked me such a question. I slide my hands into the pockets of my lab coat before responding, which is about as casual of a pose that I can muster. "I grew up in this environment. My parents had been senior members of the Board of Directors for my entire life. When I was not in school or at our Family Estate, I was here. I have always found biomolecules to be fastinating to work with. They are almost like magic particles that can do a wide variety of things with certain materials."

So, she has spent her entire life working in laboratories; biomolecules seem to be truly important to her. As for me, I worked in the jungle. It's a bit of a different environment, but you get used to it eventually. From what she tells me, it's a family tradition.

"That's really impressive. I can't wait to learn from you; there's still so much for me to discover."

If I applied to the NCBC, it's not to sit idly by but to work efficiently on new products. I also want to demonstrate the extent of my skills. I learn very quickly; it doesn't take much for me to start working on a topic. I can understand that relentless drive to circle in the laboratory until a problem is solved. I feel it too when I work in the Shadow Laboratory.

Perhaps one day, I'll feel inclined to show her, but for now, this is where it all happens, and I need to stay focused on my studies so as not to make mistakes and to earn her trust. All I want is to learn new things.

For now, I've decided to keep my Force abilities hidden, but she'll find out soon enough when I start testing those capabilities on droids or other specific objects.

Not only will this serve as training, but I'll also benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, and I even have a small apartment close to the lab for staying overnight. I also need to complete my accreditations.

"I am truly grateful for this office and equipment. I won't disappoint you."

Usually, when I have an idea, I see it through to the end.

I bow my head to Miss Thrynn as she expresses her gratitude. "You are most welcome. Now let us return to the lobby so that we may get your biometrics and security passes ready." I remove my hands from my pockets and straighten my jacket a bit before leading her out of her office.

It had been a handful of years since I have had an assistant. My last one was killed during an attempted abduction of myself and I had been hesitant to take up another since. Both Valery Noble Valery Noble and Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell had suggested that I do so in order to free up some of my time, but I had refrained from even looking. Instead of was Miss Thrynn that had found me.

If only everything was that simple.

I lead Miss Thrynn to the lobby and instead of taking her to the front desk, I guide her towards the security wing. The office that I bring her to looks almost like a lab in and of itself. But it's purposes were far different. "Here you are Miss Thrynn. The procedure might seem a little invasive, but it is all precautionary, I assure you. Any health advisories or allergies that you might have will also be discovered and catered to. And by this time tomorrow your passes will be ready and you will be able to begin your first day." I hoped that she would not mind it all. But some people had a bit of a fear of full body scans and needles.

She announces that I'll have to undergo a scan, mainly to ensure that I don't have any unusual energy or anything of the sort. I'll also have to comply and answer potentially intrusive questions to be granted my identity card and access pass to the lab.

I follow her to the designated room, glancing at the scanner it's not too different from the equipment in my own laboratory. I run my hand lightly over the bed that has been prepared for the occasion. I'll also have to undergo a series of tests involving needles.

I assume this is standard procedure. I sigh as I begin to remove my lab coat, hanging it on the coat rack in the room along with my bag. I sit on the bed or rather, the bed I'll be using for the time being, since it's not truly mine. I'll be here for a while until everything is completed.

Next, I remove my top, leaving me in a T-shirt. I then take off the T-shirt as well. I'm familiar with this type of procedure; I'm usually allowed to remain in my bra. Naturally, I also remove my shoes before lying down on the bed, a weary expression on my face. The scan will reveal the presence of midichlorians. Aside from that, I'm in perfect health with no particular allergies.

I imagine she'll also strap me to the bed when it's time for the needles to ensure her safety as well as mine. In any case, if I want to work here, I have no choice but to comply with these procedures. I suppose these health check-ups will be conducted regularly to ensure I'm fit to work.

"You may begin; I'm used to these kinds of examinations. More fast we are started, more fast we have finished right ? "

I slowly close my eyes, giving her the go-ahead to start her tests. It won't be worse than the infirmary on Korriban. For my part, I start meditating, ready to face the trials ahead.

One of the staff politely asks her to put her shirt back on. Given that it was short in the sleeves, there was no reason for the material to be removed. The more comfortable she was, the better.

I remain at the side of the room out of the way of the staff. I was going to leave sooner, but the look in her eyes let me know how wary she was. So out of what comfort my presence could give her, I remain.

Needles were inserted in her arms. Some drew out blood for testing while others gave her common anti-viral medications. Afterall while dealing with a sterile environment one needed to be at full health.

Body scans were also given, taking note of her molecular composition, the strength of her bone structure, as well as the functionality of all of her organs.

It did not take long for the staff to be finished. I gave them my nod of approval before she was allowed to sit back up again.

"Miss Thrynn, you can now be on your free time. Feel free to get yourself situated with your apartment and then everything will be ready for you in the morning."

I take this time to meditate a little, to rest after what has been quite a busy and emotionally charged day. I feel an unpleasant jolt as the needles pierce my skin. I'm receiving a dose of vaccine, a fairly standard one against flu-like illnesses.

I was asked to put my top back on, which I did immediately when instructed. All that matters to me now is that this test ends quickly so I can move on and focus on my future scientific experiments.

As the needles are removed, I also notice that the scan is complete, and I let out a sigh of relief. Back at the old academy, I would have been treated far less kindly. They probably would have restrained me without my consent.

I listen to the director as they tell me I can now go about my business and settle into my new quarters. I smile at them while putting my clothes back on.

"Thank you. What time should I come in tomorrow morning?"

I take my briefcase with me, now ready to discover my new quarters with Nyva. It reassures me that she can settle in too I'll be able to keep an eye on her and monitor her closely.

I'm not unhappy that this exam is over; I'm eager to start working in the new lab and proving myself. The director can see the determination in my eyes I have no intention of letting them down.

I contemplate my answer before responding. Afterall not everyone was an early riser like I am. "No later than 09:00 if you please. At least for the first little while. In time you will be able to set your own schedule.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have an appointment to keep." I bow my head to her before turning on my heel. I needed to take care of a few matters in my office.

One thing is for sure, though; today has been quite productive so far.

She tells me I need to be present at 9 a.m. tomorrow and that I have all the time I need to enjoy my quarters in the meantime. At first, I'll need to pay close attention to my schedule because I need to earn the trust of the office, but once I've achieved that, I'll have much more autonomy and flexibility with my hours. However, given my projects and ambitions, it's clear I'll need to spend a lot of time in the lab.

I display a small, sincere smile when she finishes speaking. I'm happy to be working with her, and I fully intend to dive into biology to carry out my projects successfully while also helping with hers, because, after all, it's a give-and-take.

"Understood. I'll be there at 9 a.m. tomorrow you can count on me."

I bow politely, and she leaves, going her way. Left on my own, I head to my new quarters to explore my new living space and start arranging my personal belongings to make it feel like home permanently. I'm settling on New Cov so I can work with my new director effectively.
