Break Before Resetting the Bone (group training, open to Levantines and other Jedi)

With an exasperated sigh, three coconuts later and sticky hands from the natural fruit juice inside that had been spilled twice, Connor dropped the four and fixed his saber hilt back to his belt. He pushed up from his knees, sinking into the sand slightly, turning to [member="Shule Windspeaker"] and sauntering over slowly to where [member="Coci Sinopi"], [member="Thurion Heavenshield"] and the young boy known as [member="Maxi"] were.

He wiped the water from his hands and listened to the Jedi direct them to the next location – but the name caught his attention.

Merrill. Captain?

He was distracted as he came towards the others, standing to the side and rocking on his heels as he waited, and racked his brains, heart beating a little faster.

Glancing around the faces of the other Jedi, fresh-faced, eager and full of eagerness, the name ran around in his mind. He could have sworn he encountered a Merrill during a Silver Jedi dominion…he was sure of it…and there was confrontation…

Thankfully, a hearty voice rang out and his body went cold with relief – the real Captain [member="Jorus Merrill"] had appeared - Connor didn’t recognise this Merrill, and thankfully the feeling of angst soon vanished. He looked tough, ready for adventure and pretty strong. A small smile crossed his face at the passion he picked up in the Captain.

Gray eyes stared at the not-so-dead Jedi Master. Lots of people seemed to be not-so-dead these days. Ryan hoped it was a good thing.

The scar-worn Jedi Knight glanced between teacher, boat and water. Ryan flew star fighters, one of the few things he could do exceptionally well, at least in his mind. He eyed the rickety things bobbing in the water. A boat couldn't be that different from an X-wing... could it?

Anything was better than listening to padawans smash coconuts with pseudo-shatterpoint.

He slowly raised a hand.

"No idea how, but I'd like to learn."

Serena composed herself, yes she was ready to stop using coconuts. She got up a bit wobbly but still aware enough to follow the group down to the cove.

She took in the air, the breeze slowly she found quiet. The water lapped gently against the sand shore, tiny sparkles reflected off the water. Calm. She loved the water, and as she got closer she could hear the instructor, boats. "I can sail, row, canoe, and surf" what she was very active it kept her mind busy. Anchored.

She didn't get much closer, as she worked at keeping thoughts and emotions out. The larger the group the more pressure, the closer she was to them the more they seeped in. But if she were boating she'd forget them being there.

He watched each master, each knight, each padawan's movement extremely closely; the warrior watch the lead instructor, Master [member="Shule Windspeaker"] especially close. The positioning of the body, the graceful glide of the arms to the hand down to the very finger until the burst of force. Every time they sent a blast focused onto the coconut, he would breath and feeling the force around them. He would feel he force swirl around them and then feel it be concentrated as they hurled it, some better than others but this was a learning experience for all of course. As the master demonstrated his ability, Jericho noticed him taking one of the stances of Teras Kasi, he memorized the movements and took on the application quickly as he was familiar to the style himself especially in the forms of Rancor and Banta.

If Shatterpoint could be an application of Teras Kasi, he would be able to familiarize with this ability rather quickly. From afar from the group he practiced the movement and the application of the ability. He took the stance, deep, low and strong; He allowed the force engulf his person and flow before concentrating it. Deep breath in, long breath out, as the master instructed. He said to himself unleashing it and forcing coconut explode. Then grabbing three more he threw them in the air and did the same thing sending the blast as swiftly as possible. The first exploded, the second exploded, and third, he missed entirely. "Hmm...More difficult than I thought. I have the right application of force but stance was off, as was my timing and speed. Still these are mere coconuts, I'll have to see how I do with armor or bone." He said shaking his head slightly. That wasn't good enough, he was already familiar but far from mastering it in his mind.

He glanced over as he noticed everyone move to the cove. He hid his arms under his cloak and walked quietly behind them, but as soon as he started following he stopped, he looked to the coconut covered beach. He took an unbroken once and cracked it open, taking a refreshing drink. He then raised all the broken coconut shells up and hovered them gracefully together, stacking them five feet high and wide; a tidy little cube of coconuts. He then placed them next to a palm tree and continued his little walk behind the group keeping his presence to a minimal.

Although Coci had some success with cracking the coconuts the conventional way, finding a fault line much more difficult, tricky business coconuts. She had found hair line fractures after her initial strike with the saber hilt, but that was not the lesson. Master Windspeaker, had drawn to a close this part of the training and directed them to move down the beach.

There to find General Merrill, as he was to her then, a man she had met in the past over Levantine Sanctum space aboard his impressive capital ship. "Captain Merrill, it is good to see you", she said as she approached. "And I have no knowledge of boats". She replied straight forward as usual.

"All right, then. Looks like today's going to be an educational day. Hopefully you'll all get a taste for sailing, and we'll start with some basics. When we go out, we'll take two of the larger boats, and me and you-" He pointed at Padawan Serena Bouie. "-will be captaining them. You'll all get a chance at the tiller when it's time to learn instinctive navigation. I've set up a course of tethered bumpers, just under the waterline. Impact won't damage your craft unless you really gun it, in which case you're paying for it by working for the locals for a couple weeks. You won't be able to see the bumpers; you'll have to use your instincts to avoid a collision."

He spent the next hour and change going over boat basics -- safety, directions, motor operation, tacking and the rest. Late afternoon, by now. Hopefully their coconuts would sustain them. The boats had plenty of water, but Jedi needed to be able to control hunger. That, and he'd forgotten snacks.

"All right. Now that you're all properly confused, Padawan Bouie and I will be taking out these two boats; we should all fit." His was blue and hers was white; each craft had a pair of triangular sails and an outboard motor, a simple propeller. No repulsors, not this far into Wild Space. Not without paying through the nose. "Everyone get into the blue boat with me or the white boat with her, and we'll head out of the cove to open sea."

PLEASE TAG YOUR BOATS

Looking at both boats, and hearing troubled Padawan Bouie was to captain one, Connor couldn't help that instinctive protective role kicking in. She'd been in a few prickly situations of late that he had witnessed, and the last thing he needed was for her to have an episode whilst captaining a boat.

He nodded to the Captain and stepped over to the white boat, sussing it out and nodding in approval. He looked out to the open waves ahead and inhaled the fresh air to fill his lungs. Definitely a place to feel cleansed of all troubles. He just had to wait for cast off.

Kalizka looked at the boat then looked at Jorus. He looked at the Padawan and the the boat. He looked at Jorus the the padawan then the boats. Two boats filled with people he didn't know did not a happy neti make. He took a deep breath and closed his big grey eyes as he discretely moved a finger back and forth between ships mentally saying einie meanie minie mo. His finger stopped at boat two and he shrugged his heavy shoulders and walked over.

He looked at the padawan and offered a smile. He carfully tossed his bag over the edge of the boat and stepped in. This was going to be an eexperience.

Cilara pardoned herself from Master Shule and made her way towards the boats, watching as the groups separated into two different groups on the boats. Cilara made her way towards the boat that held master Merril, she felt it would be better if a master was the captain though she held no ill will towards her fellow padawan. Cilara made her way onto the blue boat, steadying herself so that it wouldn't rock too much and she waited for the others to board the boat as well.

On second try, her coconut exploded. She took off her glasses and shook them once, trying to get the coat of sugary-sweet liquid off the lenses. Shrugging once, she licked them and popped the slightly blurred windows back on her head.

She joined the rest of the group and listened to this new person who was significantly less vanilla than Master Vanilla.

Grabbing a life jacket, she pulled the straps on as tightly as heavy gravity would allow and followed the tree-man. With no shame, she tugged on his limb and asked. "Excuse me, but do you float in water?"

White Board
Adrenaline Junkie Padawan at the wheel.

Serena looked at Captain Merrill and smiled he had no idea how much she loved water she looked over at the ship two sails one mast, sloop design. Ok. Most of their power would come from the main sail, the wheel was just back from the beam which was great that way seeing forward to avoid other ships could be seen but how the buoys beneath the surface, given the color of the water yeah they'd have to sense them to avoid them, deep enough to go bump but not damage. Good to know.

Propeller wouldn't be needed unless they lost the wind, course it might be easier for the novices to do it under propeller that way they wouldn't have to worry about positioning the sails.

"All aboard that's coming aboard" She smiled when she saw [member="Connor Harrison"] jump on board, he already knew she was a bit of a handful as a padawan. Cave diving she thought at Connor, you need to go cave diving

[member="Kalizka"], Serena had never seen a Neti and she found him fascinating. She didn't know if it was ok to smile, was their a custom against it?

Serena looked at the boat, and checked the wind, the boom would be set, and then she'd either be tacking or jibing.

Sailing was like the first time you touched the force you could have a wild ride as your senses soared through it all making you sick and laying flat out, or you dove into it smooth, serene, controlled and on course.

Breaking coconuts.

This was the best sort of lesson. I take a coconut and feel its' green surface with my fingers and palm. Ridges and lines falling in channels from the striae that had begun while the fruit was a mere seedling, a bud on the tree. We all bear the marks and lines of what we have been, of what we were made. Although I can guarantee little, I do know for myself the art of Shatterpoint is less about combat and more about unlocking people. Unlocking sensations and the course of motion.

How much better would my intuitions and visions get if I could follow the lines with a greater clarity to their crux points? I keep to the back of the group, my head down, dirty blonde hair scattered about my face. I shut my eyes and picture the coconut. My fingers move until I find a mellow point in the husk. As my fingers go to dig into the outer shell, I hear a name whispered along the group. [member="Kana Truden"]. My eyes snap up without my head moving. Elias' sister. . .

. . . . She's alive.

I feel a reverberation stroke my spine. I shiver and shut my eyes, daring to go over later, introduce myself as someone neutral and see what state Kana Truden is in. . . but I feel exposed and alone here with the Jedi. I haven't spent enough time with the Jedi and the Sanctum to be brave enough and show my true face. Only Ilias knows it and he isn't here. Well, [member="Marselia Urstalis"] knows it too and my Padawan is here. My eyes shut again and I refocus on the coconut. My arm is swathed in the Force's bodily strengthening and I jab my fingers into the flesh. They dig through, creating enough of a hole to rip a neat patch from the coconut's outer shell. Inhale. . . Exhale. My hand pulls away, I reach across the coconut's outer shell again and feel deeper into the inner shell of the seed.

There are three tiny weak points. Two aren't exposed by my first dig. One is on the edge of it. I hold the coconut up and feel for the right spot on the concurrent side with which to strike. . . and crack it with a palm heel. The top opens, I take a long drink and realize how thirsty I must have been. It's not time yet to start eating for three, so why am I so thirsty? I pass the coconut to Lia and rise when the others rise.

Boats. . . [member="Jorus Merrill"].

I suck in a quick gasp, keeping my head down and pulling into my powers of perception to mar the look of my face, shift my hair colour to a darker hue, my skin more caked by the sun. I don't know if Jorus will remember me, but he's met me before. Since [member="Valik"]'s death I've felt an indecent urge to hide from each and every familiar thing. Seeing one's lover break a man's neck just to keep the pregnancy safe and secret is enough of a reason, I suppose. The White Boat is filling up fast.

"I ah. . . I know how to sail." I shift the nature of my voice to be unfamiliar, pulling the blue hood of my hoodie over my darkening hair. [member="Coryth Elaris"] had been a diligent teacher to her student and I learned much from the Corellian who, when I met her, lived on a sailing boat on a large lake on Corellia. Shoulders raised, I hoof it into the Blue Boat and nod for Lia to follow. For all intents, an unrecognizable, unimpressive young man with a hoodie pulled over his head, and the start of a tiny beer belly.

This is exactly the kind of lesson my Padawan would thrive on and I hope that by being in Jorus Merrill's boat, Lia gets the best education she can.

Good to know.’ the scoundrel replied, before standing up and dusting off his clothing. Coconut with the very little shatter forgotten he gave Kana a nod and then offered his own name in kind. Gotta be just a little bit polite, no? ‘Khaleel Malvern, but everyone calls me ‘that guy with the blaster’. Either is fine.’

With that done he stretched a bit, scratched his beginning beard and then followed the rest towards the boats.

You coming, mouse?

Seeing as the padawan’s boat was pretty filled, both Kana and Khaleel stepped onto Jorus’ ship. Khal knew the guy, via via, it pays to be apprenticed to Vaud sometimes. Didn’t show the familiarity too much though, no need for that here.

He knew a bit of what would be coming though, wasn’t the best, but Vaud taught him some stuff.

‘That guy with the blaster’ - what a flattering nickname. Kana put it to mind and followed [member="Khaleel Malvern"] to the boats. The sight of Captain Gideon, or well, ‘[member="Jorus Merrill"]’ - as his name apparently seemed to be (still) - had Kana staring sideways for a quick moment. Was this guy following her or did she just have some sort of weird spell of coincidence cast upon her? In any case it was a welcome surprise and she listened to his words until ‘that guy with the blaster’ spoke to her again.

“I’m coming! Calm yourself, ...” Attention reaching for the skies 'Mouse' had to think of a nickname. “Blaster... Guy... You.”

She hesitantly stepped into the boat before shrugging. She'd have to work on nicknames. Still, Kana got herself seated by Khaleel. Her sights set on the waters as the boat gently waggled around on it's surface. She let in a deep breath to calm her nerves and push away any involuntary reflexes to abandon ship. Boats and Kana had never been a good match and yet here she was in a boat with nothing but a big collection of strangers. Surely she couldn't be this uncomfortable when not in the presence of those she usually hung around, could she?

In a sense it felt good to break habits. She should have done this long ago.

Blue Boat

The padawan's boat looked rather people-logged, so Ryan elected to step aboard the not-so-dead Master's uncomfortably rocking construction.

"Hmm," he said as he stared apprehensively at the thing. Memories of standing on pylons, daring storms to do their worst and almost drowning surfaced.... surfaced ugly... like a pale, bloated corpse on the beach.

Ryan attempted to step aboard. One foot on land, the other on the boat, the redhead almost fell into the water, only surviving embarrassment due to a prompt use of the Force to steady himself. He moved both feet onto the boat and sat down, pride slightly scathed.

"All right," he said, loud enough for both boats to hear him. "We're going to head out to open water. The flag bouys mark the starts of the courses. You'll all take turns navigating the boats through one of the maze courses. The worst that can happen is a bump -- there's padded bars under the water, tethered bumpers. You can't see them. The point of this is to listen to the Force and steer the boat by instinct. If you're not comfortable with the sails, just use the motor's tiller. Everyone takes a turn -- first come, first served."

Back on the shore, Shule -- a man highly resistant to mentalism and the White Current, and a man who'd seen and sensed bent-light illusions before -- watched a slightly potbellied young man quizzically. Shule wasn't one for ostentatious powers, but he was pretty hard to trick with that kind of thing.

Seating himself on the left side of the boat, Connor leant his left hand back on the side and looked out over the waters ahead, glancing to their companions in the blue.

Licking his lips slightly, he looked up to [member="Serena Bouie"] and gestured with his hand.

”Come on, Captain. Take us out then.”

Turning to the others, he grimaced slightly, with a small smile breaking after. This should be interesting.

White Boat.

Coci followed [member="Connor Harrison"] onto the white boat. A small smile on her face as Serena would be at the helm and trying her best to sail. Coci has no experience and would do no better but she would watch and learn.

She found a seat for the moment, not really knowing what she should be doing, and feeling most uncomfortable. At least it was not a ship and on ground so to speak. Time would only tell if this was a blessing or not. Odd how she began to feel queeze, not really one to suffer motion sickness, but still.

The White Boat

Serena decided to use the outboard to get them further out, and then she would move over to the sails, first she had to bring up the anchor and cast off any lines that would be holding them still. She walked the length of the boat, making sure everything was in place. She could see [member="Coci Sinopi"] [member="Connor Harrison"] [member="Kalizka"] [member="Spark Finn"] were settling in, "Not to worry I've done this before" She smiled.

All the while she kept working at not knowing anything about anyone around her except for a drip of a thought slipped over, Serena paused and looked directly at Master Sinopi. Umhmmm Serena blinked her mother had that look, that feeling, that...umhmm...motion sickness.

Serena shook her head no no no, concentrate on the boat.

"So no one here has sailed before..not to worry it is like flying a kite." Serena stood at the wheel, started the outboard, " TIME TO GO!" and with a gentle nudge forward the boat moved.
