BLUE BOAT

Aaralyn looked around the boat at the various individuals and then to [member="Jorus Merrill"]. Seeing as no one responded to go first, she took it upon herself to speak up first. “I suppose I’ll take a crack at it…” She made a slightly grimacing face as the boat shifted a bit once she adjusted herself. Aaralyn would take a deep breath, her hands coming up to rest upon her knees for a moment as her eyes fluttered closed. She opened herself up to the Force, reaching out to feel the boat and everyone within it.

She could see them, just barely at first – the white particles of life encircling each individual, slowly turning a soft blue as their presence within the Force became apparent. She could make out the brighter, scattered shades of blue that was the water beneath the boat, and the small blotches that must have been the bumpers but beneath them were very miniscule forms of life, probably an algae or some organism of life attaching itself to their base.

A half-smile would crease her lips as she brought a nervous hand up, shaking a bit as she saw herself pushing the boat, gently nudging it with the Force. She would press against it, causing ripples in the blue-white particle filled water. She would nudge left, causing a splash of water to spray in the direction of [member="Ryan Korr"], and the boat would rock softly in the wake of the Force. She grimaced and squinted her face as she struggled to concentrate against the sheer amusement of the exercise itself. It was a painfully slow and steady pace, but one that brought her past the first bumper. She would nudge it right hard at the bow and the rear of the boat at the same time, causing a huge splash of water in the direction of [member="Cilara Ventril"] and [member="Kana Truden"]. The boat itself would rock gently, maybe even threatening to knock [member="Jorus Merrill"] from his perch.

Kalizka looked down at the odd human girl and thought of a small Zeison Sha girl that he had cared for after his second trip to Yanibar.

"No, miss, but I can swim well enough for two." He looked aaround, "but only when i have to."

He looked at the others stuck in the boat with him and smiled. He had not been in such a big group of force users since Krayt's empire fell.

Khaleel would have raised his eyebrow at that attempt, but instead got sidetracked by Korr and him almost falling from the boat. That got a raised eyebrow outta him for sure. Didn’t say anything though, Khal was far too busy doing three things at the same time to get a good grip on reality.

Stick to breaking nuts, mouse.’ the scoundrel finally replied. ‘I will handle the nicknames.’

Looking around it didn’t really seem as if anyone from his boat wanted to take the wheel, which was understandable, stuff like this got intimidating real fast. He had some basic training in what Jorus was trying to teach ‘em, Vaudin was the best.

So he took the stick. (he had no idea how it was called officially) and set off to try and guide the ship through the obstacle course. Relying on the Force to dodge the underwater-stuff.

Aaralyn was about to finish the course when her comlink went off - must have been something about the Ilum trip.

She stopped concentrating on the Force, the stick or whichever was guiding the Blue Boat and jumped off the boat and onto the beach. Force powers, wonderful thing they were.

[member="Khaleel Malvern"] took over shortly after she bailed? Aaralyn wasn't sure. She was back on shore and thanked [member="Shule Windspeaker"] for the lesson before leaving Dantooine for a meeting regarding the Ilum trip.

As Aaralyn Rekali takes the tiller, I turn back to put my hand on the stern, the other on my subtly growing stomach. I heave, but nothing comes out, Morning Sickness is bad enough without being on a boat full of people who may have never sailed. Rubbing my stomach, I bite my lip and stare outward to the shore where Shule Windspeaker is staring at me. The hairs on my neck lift, I grip the stern with both hands and gulp.

Can he see me? I've had an inkling since Tash Taral that maybe he'd seen more of me than I'd projected. The Master Windspeaker hadn't said a word, should I feel safe? Is this the calm before the gigantic hammer comes down?

Am I projecting my fear of the Sith in the Fringe to this collection of Jedi learners? There I am, hair hidden under my hood as I stare out at Shule Windspeaker. For all intents I am a terrified and cornered pregnant woman who hasn't felt safe anywhere but my lover's arms, for months. Having not spent much time with the Jedi, this is my first foray into the community of Light Siders since my preliminary meeting with Ilias Nytrau that fateful year ago. My life has become a parcel of Mikhail and glances behind my shoulder. I fear Jared is lurking in every shadow, ready to push the next threat on myself and my unborn children. Yet, in the fear is a strangled and harrowed slip of hope. I've heard tell the Jedi were kind, that the Jedi worked to save lives, to bring safety and guidance and oh, do I need guidance. . . but would they give that to me, 'bride' of the Throne Breaker? 'Please don't harm me, I came to learn.'

The boat jostles again, a spray of water hits my side and I shut my mouth and jerk away from the stern. I bump straight into Jorus Merrill and gasp, "Sorry! Sorry. Didn't. . wasn't. . . I can, ah, I can try."

I reach for the boom and exhale a rigidly held breath. How tense can a person get, eh? I let my eyes shut and at the beginning of the course, I let the rocking of the hull in the water, the breeze flicking across the jib soothe my nerves. There's a path in life as there is in the water, it's not to everyone to go across that path identically, but I know enough to feel the danger of the trail I find myself upon. There is no danger here but pride's falling and as I pull the boom and tiller into coming about off to port, I feel the wind catch the sail. A scratch hits the side of the boat, I shake my head and collect myself, changing the tiller and letting loose more sail from the jib. I realize the course is best taken by tacking into the wind, going from angle to angle, while I keep the boom sweeping back and forth.

"Jib ho." I say, to keep the people on the boat aware of the moving boom. As I find the rhythm, the worries and fears that have locked me in illusions and panic drift off. I feel my legs steady, my breathing ebb and flow like the water lapping up on the shore, and the boat moves steadily through the course. Each time I turn to look back to the shore, and the worries I laid on the beach, the belly scratches.

A quick snap of the sails and refocus brings me back along the intuitive path Jorus set. All in all, by the end of my run I feel my shoulders fall in relaxation and a small pert smile on my face. There. That was better. "Whose next?"

"No worries, no worries," said Jorus genially enough, as one learner or another splashed and jostled him. "All part of getting used to a boat." He peered across the water at the white boat, then glanced at the tiller of the blue. "I think everyone's had the chance. Let's head back to shore."

He called the same over to [member="Serena Bouie"], then took the tiller himself now that everyone had at least had a chance. The blue boat slid into the cove and nestled up against the pier.

"Well, that about ends my little part in this session, folks. Hope some of you learned something, or at least got an appreciation for instinctive navigation. What you just did for boats and bumpers, me and my friends do for new hyperlanes at point-five past lightspeed. There's a whole 'verse out there if you're willing to take the necessary steps." He finished tying up the blue boat at the pier and reclaimed his broad-brimmed hat. He tipped it to his erstwhile crew. "Cheers, all."

He vanished into the trees. A few minutes later, the YV-929 Gypsymoth would ascend from the forest and head back into space. He never did like planets much.

"Well, that was quick," said Shule, approaching the docking boats. "I was hoping more of you would want to take a turn. If you're more comfortable trying instinctive navigation with, say, speeder bikes, there's a trail just south of here, and a few bikes available -- or if you want to take boats out, that's fine too. For some of you, this doesn't seem to be your cup of tea, so I guess it's a good thing that our next lesson is something totally different.

"There's an obscure Luka Sene power -- the Luka Sene are a Miraluka spiritual order focusing on Force senses -- called Field Detection. It's not always useful, and please don't waste your time trying to combine it with the more active applications of Shatterpoint, but it's a handy thing to know. It lets you attune yourself to the resonances of energy fields, to find them and maybe start to find their flaws. It's a natural evolution from what we were discussing before -- just don't let yourself think this will let you take down energy fields easily, regardless of the weapon you use. But if you're hoping to burn out a deflector shield over a few minutes, this will show you just the right place to hold your sabre against the field."

For the next ten minutes, he explained the basics of Field Detection.

"There are small, concealed energy fields in the forest," he said. "In pairs or alone, on speeder bikes or on foot, your job is to find them. Think of it as hide and seek, with deflector shields."

Only once instructions were given did he respond to Anders Sivas' mental message.

There's nothing to fear here, and no harm to be doled out. Feel free to let down your defenses. This is probably the most peaceful world in the quadrant.

I trip getting out of the boat, catching myself and remembering the hip dysplasia natural to all women in my condition. I'm not the most steady person at the best of times. Coming back to the shore, I'm careful to hang back and rest at the back of the group with my hood still over my head and my hands in my pockets. It's easier to be seen as a slightly disinterested young man than the person I am.

Next up, Field Detection. Sounds fun! A timid smile takes my lips as I look to the woods and consider my strategy for the game. Definitely going for a walk. So, what will I do when I find the energy field in question? I'll do a little dance. Cause I'll have rocked it. For now I wait for the others to begin their search, sticking back and pondering the truth in [member="Shule Windspeaker"] 's word. No harm... A caveat which would change very quickly if Mikhail was around. But he's not. Maybe I can trust these people for a while, at least until...

'I've never been around a group of Jedi before, just my Master once in a while.'

I shudder, and the illusion of my appearance slips for a sleepless, pale lipped young woman with dark blonde hair, lanky thin bones hidden under the baggy hoodie and trousers belted under my bump. I've got the look of a woman who would do well with a nap and a meal and probably a visit with a prenatal specialist. My eyes remain active and keen, a prey animal who feels the predators at the back of her neck. I glance up at Shule in a moment tantamount to trust, gulp then turn to walk out into the forest to look for the energy fields.

“Whatever you say, Blasto.” Kana stared at the water. “I will keep trying ‘til I find one.”

As each man and woman alike took to steering Kana simply remained still in a moment of complete cluelessness. Splashes came and splashes went. Water landed in Kana’s lap and every single time she wanted to grimace in disgust. It was an irrational distaste for it, not fear. After having mustered the courage to take the controls herself she found the class cut short. A blessing in disguise, really.

She got out of the boat gladly and followed the others back to [member="Shule Windspeaker"]. Her full attention set on the description of how to use it. Pieces here and there fell in place but overall she got the feeling that the main purpose was a live-and-learn typeof deal and sure enough Windpseaker would confirm it.

It didn’t sound like something that’d be too hard. Then again, that’s what she had told herself about a great many things and not once had she been right. She gave [member="Khaleel Malvern"] a look and shrugged. Eyes set on [member="Anders Sivas"], whoever that was they didn’t look very comfortable. A moment to think was all Kana needed before she proceeded to run towards him, or her.

“Hey, wait up!” Without looking she assumed Khal had followed. “Two, or even three, are better than one. What do you say?”

It wasn’t much of a question, really. Kana set out to find the fields herself, in a group or no.

I jolt and am brought face to face with Elias' sister Kana. I look the woman up and down and tug the hoodie better over my hair. "Ah. . . yeah, I can buddy up. . . Kana right? Kana Truden? Heard ah, what'd you call him? Blasto? Yeah, heard him saying." Getting to know Elias' sister a bit wouldn't be all quirk and no substance. As far as I can feel from Eli, he believes she's dead. There's a story here and it's worth the investigation.

And in the end, maybe I can help a friend reunite with family, a concept I'm finding has become intensely important. My gaze flickers to [member="Khaleel Malvern"] and I nearly draw into myself in nervousness but Kana starts off and I put my hands in my pockets and tromp on after her.

Eyes open, I try and focus on the task at hand: That of sensing energy fields. I can sense the minds of those around us, the flowing rush of life but energy created by technological means? It's going to take a few knocks, methinks and for my part I'm glad to be one step or so behind someone else. "What do you think an energy field feels like, eh? Buzzing like bees or a bunch of ones and zeroes droning on?" It's half of a joke, as I walk over a tree root. Lifting my knee so high? Haha! You silly woman, Andra! I grimace and put a hand on my lower back with a low whistle. Trees? Nope, can't feel them. I keep walking with Kana and associate (can't see if he's with us, what with the hood up, avast ye! A hole in my plan!) and keep my eyes open for a shimmer or froth in light.

Finally they all were back on solid ground, much to Coci's delight. It took all her powers to keep the contents of her stomach where they were and she was the first off the boat. She stood with closed eyes, and took in a deep breath to clear the sickness which worked almost instantly.

Master Windspeaker approached and addressed them once more. Now with her interested peaked once more and something to take her mind of that boat trip, she listened growing more intrigued. He described a force technique she considered would be of benefit in her field of work. She had not heard of it til now and would look toward Master [member="Connor Harrison"] to see his reaction to such a technique.

"Want to go for a walk in the forest?", she finally asked Connor but equally would be happy with a speeder. Flying in ships she hates, now boats it seems but speeders she can handle no problem.

Hoodie-girl was too nervous for my liking. Growing up on Nar Shaddaa gave me a bit of insight and we had a name for twitchy-types like that, she was either hiding something or had experienced the frakkery of a life time, either way it wasn’t something I was keen to participate in. A mental whisper to [member="Kana Truden"] told her I would be going in alone, no need to scare off the cat.

She probably needed the friends more than I did.

I headed off to the forest, brows furrowed in concentration. Ain’t easy to disconcern energy fields just like that, Shule had explained it good, but man. You can only do so much in one midday, ya know? Shatterpoint, instinctive astrogation, now this again.

Would probably need a few until I could manage to see anything. Tired and all. Can’t really help it.

While walking it hit me. Blasto. Ha. That was a good one.

Holding onto the mast pole, Connor breathed in the fresh air as they crested the water coming back to shore. The bow wave was impressive and their hull carved across the blue perfectly. He turned to [member="Serena Bouie"].

"I may have under-estimated you, Padawan. Good work out there."

Coming to dock, Connor stood and jumped off onto the jetty and helped the others disembark. He smiled at [member=Kalizka] whom he hadn't really seen before and patted him once on the arm as he left the boat.

"Not so bad, was it."

Then came [member="Coci Sinopi"] looking wonderfully worse for wear. She ignored him totally and got herself off in good time to get some space and control herself with the Force. Connor smiled to himself as he listened to the new set of instructions. He hadn't heard of the Force power before, never mind Luka Sene. However, it was all knowledge and that was good.

Coci was back on solid ground again and came over to ask his company. Connor nodded once and gestured with his hand out before them.

"Lead the way, Master Sinopi."

He turned as they began to walk, noting the others and where they were heading and who was near.

Kalizka got up and walked onto the rocks of the jetty and told the silver jedi man "Thank you". His slow careful steps slowly getting used to the heavy gravity. He walked toward the Jedi Master.

"I miss them." Kalizka said of the Luka Sene, "they were a quiet people and so few even in my youth."

He steped to the side and began to sit and focus. His old grey eyes closed and he began to clear his mind of other thoughts. He would like to learn this a great deal.

Finally, something she could do that didn't require concentration looks that rivaled expressions of constipation. "Thanks, spacer," she saluted the Merrill guy as he left rather quickly. She didn't realize she still had her life-jacket on until she stood within Kalizka's seated, shadow. Sea-sprayed fingers fumbled with the straps.

"Kalizka, right? Did I ever say my name? Sometimes I forget. It's Spark Finn." She rocked back and forth on her converse clad-feet. A quick adjustment of glasses on her freckled face as she looked from him to the woods.

"Want to do this together?"

Kalizka looked at the girl and had to smile again. So full of innocent life, much like his little freind [member="Chloe Blake"] in that regard.

"It is my genuine pleasure, Miss Spark." He said rising, "and I'd love to, but you won't need your life vest in there."

He stood and waited for the girl before walking to the forest.

Serena felt as if she had been in a daze the trip had happened so quickly and ended so quickly that the time had just melted and before she knew it they were back at the dock and on land.

She looked around at everyone nodding and smiling and yet she had this blank spot in her memory of what had happened. She walked slowly analyzing her thoughts is this a side effect of her medication?

Damn. She needed to make sure she saw the healers again, "Thanks Connor, I mean Master Harrison"

She listened to Master Windspeaker what would she do, a walk would clear her head and she could drift away for a bit too allowing time to clear her thoughts, emotions, and once more perhaps not feel or hear so much.

A grin spread on her lips. Blasto stuck, huh? Maybe Kana did have some sort of nickname blessing after all. Feeling content that the ‘mouse’ had managed to find her friend a nickname she set her sights on [member="Anders Sivas"] as [member="Khaleel Malvern"]’s message set in over her mind. A clear ‘Got it’ was sent back and she could focus on getting to know her new partner.

“Yeah, that’s my name.” The grin faded into a smile as they ventured deeper into the forest. “I don’t think I got your name though.”

A few moments pass for them to give Kana their name. She let out a chuckle on the comment about fields and bees. “If only it was that simple, right? No, just relax and think of what Master Windspeaker said.”

It was hide-and-seek and Kana as well as her new friend was ‘it’. Step for step they delved into the forest. In a constant taunting little buzz Kana could swear she heard a buzz from one of the fields, but every time her eyes darted out to check it she was met with disappointment. Insects were the worst.

“I hope you don’t mind me saying but you look like you’re uncomfortable right now.” A small clearing crept up in front of them and for once the buzz wasn’t a bug, it was an actual energy field! “I don’t mean anything by it, but-... Hey, look!”

Kana rushed ahead and placed herself in front of the field and her eyes shot back at [member="Anders Sivas"] in excitement.

[member="Kalizka"]

"You never know," she trailed after Kalizka, bony-shoulders finally shrugging off the life-jacket and leaving it on the beach. Inside she was totally geeking out about this new friend. He doesn't think I'm too weird yet!!!!

She felt the weight of the gravity again. There was something about being on the water that made that better, or at least gave the technopath the illusion that it was better. Movements were slowed. She had to take about four and half long-strides to keep up with one of Kalizka's. But he seemed to have no problems waiting for the slicer.

Gray-blue eyes searched the forest, calming herself, she reached with the force, looking for glitches in the air and to feel that familiar buzz, the familiar connection she had with technology through the force. She turned sharply to the left and pointed across a grassy-area with a small lake.

"I think there's something this way. Do you feel or see anything? How'd you end up with the jedi anyway? And WHAT are you exactly? If you sneeze does it come out as sap? Do birds give you problems? Are you worried about fire? Do you drink a lot - I mean water, right?"

She had no idea she was probably being rude.

"True, you never do." He said as he slowly strode into the forest his simple jal shay robes moving with him as he walked. He chuckled as he watched her scampering along like an awkward lamb all legs and arms. He string of questions made hum shake his head and thrumb deep in his chest. "You think so?." He asked, "I feel and see a great many things, It's a long story, I'm a Neti, mostly water but i bleed sap, I like most birds but if i sit still they do get a bit upset when i get up, tutaminis is a glorious thing for fire, and yes I do drink a lot of water and I eat sunlight. Do you like learning new things?"
