Chief of Senate Voting

Status
Not open for further replies.
All nominations have been verified.

I now call on all those in the running to make a speech (if they wish) to share with the members of the Galactic Republic why they deserve your vote, your record of public service in the Senate etc. etc.

Voting lasts for three days. In the event of a tie for first place, those joint with most votes will go forward to a second ballot. If all candidates are tied, an alternative solution will be considered.

May the best candidate win:

[member="Alyesa Organa"]
[member="Geneviève Lasedri"]
[member="Persephone Callas"]
[member="Vaudin Miir "]

PLEASE NOTE

Only one vote per person please. If you've voted for more than one candidate, please amend your vote accordingly. The poll has been amended to disable this feature. Thanks.

Alyesa's speech would be presented in person, via her podium on her pod within the Senate Chambers. It would be broadcast to those who would listen and those who weren't present. She remained calm and poised while she spoke - keeping it simple.

"I’m not going to make a speech to rile the spirit or rouse more to the cause – my actions in the Senate have done that for me. My presence within the Senate and my record speaks for itself. My unwavering devotion to the Republic and its citizens through representation of Alderaan and Manaan alike, both planets which have been devastated by defeat due to blinded bureaucrats and individuals with personalized agendas – should speak for itself. I was present at the Battle of Alderaan and organized the best defense possible with then Supreme Chancellor Popo.

I am always present – not there via holo.

I will make myself available to all citizens of the Republic, I will listen to the concerns of all the people within the Republic and our allies abroad.

I will defend the Jedi against persecution – one of the primary reasons I shot down the bill against Force User Registration.

I will pursue an aggressive agenda against the One Sith, within all means of the Republic Law – this will not stop until the peace against the Republic is no longer being threatened.

I will not forget citizens on planets who have been dominated by the One Sith or our enemies abroad, I will do what is necessary to find the refugees of this war a place they can call home until the Republic is able to take back what is rightfully theirs.

I will aide the Senate in pushing bills forward that put more relief into war-torn planets and help rebuild commerce.

I will take a look at all the committees and select individuals of new and fresh blood to lead these committees to get the ball rolling on bills that are important to the Republic and cut down on the time that it takes for the Senate to get into action.

Unlike some of my colleagues who are also running for Chief of Senate – I don’t have any policies that prohibit representation in times of war. It is a known fact that certain Senators are known for their secluded ways and don’t wish to dabble in the issues abroad.

I will ensure peace and security is restored to the Republic - by all means available to me and within the means of the law of the Republic.

Under my leadership, the Senate will no longer be stagnated in red tape and action will be taken - as now in our hour of darkness, action is needed.

Thank you for your time."

She would end her speech as she always did, bringing her arm across her chest, placing the flat of her palm against her shoulder in a sign of respect. A slight bow would follow before she stepped down and moved away. Regardless of the outcome - she would continue to fight for the Freedom of the people within the Republic.

Vaudin Miir

Planetary President of Iktotch
Vaudin stepped up and pulled out a datapad and a pair of reading glasses. His grey eyes scanned the datapad's screen and he frowned. His long down turned horns framed his grim face as he looked up and began to scan the room.

"Why should you vote for me?" He said before looking around again, "Honestly if you want an ambitious intelligent politician you should vote for Ms. Callas. If you want a strong dedicated with a family built on suppoting the republic then Ms. Organa would not disappoint. Ms. Lasedri, I'm told is an excellent business woman with a knack for good management and research. Every one of them is a good choice. In fact I was going to vote for one of them myself until Senator Drake surprised me."

"I am not going to stand up here and tell you I am a better choice than the other canidates, in fact as politicians go I'm about the worst one there is. In fact if this vote was before the One Sith menace, and one of them had offered me "personal time" in exchange for me to drop out I probably would have taken it."

"I'm can't promise that the future will be easy if I were to win this and to be honest I can say with no doubt it's going to be hard as chaos, but I can also say that I'll fight for the citizens of this Republic. I will, day in and day out, make it my life to ensure that we keep fighting against oppression, tyranny, and any group that thinks the creation and use of abominations for war is ok. I won't lie for my own benefit, I won't hide what I do and I won't put my life before anyone else's."

"What guarantee can I give you? Coruscant, I fought the sith on the temple steps with a shotgun and hell of a lot of hope. Empress Teta, I provided air cover and medivac before I again landed and fought Sith hand to hand and with what ever else I could find. Manaan, I commanded Selkath infantry and dive troops before I responded to a distress sugnal from the city, where I engaged and killed a sith lord. That's my guarantee."

"The fact that time and again when the republic needs me I'm willing and able to step forward and risk my life to protect yours. I will give my life along side our Jedi friends, our troops, and our citezens. We haven't been able to halt the sith yet but it's no secret that part of the reason is they have support right here in our republic. I want them gone. Just like you do. I want the stream of self-promotion and agendas wiped out just like you and I willing to do what I have to within the boundaries of the law to do that."

"If you vote for me, with all of my faults, I can promise you'll get all of my strengths too. If you don't vote for me I can promise that you'll be getting the same damn thing because the only way I'm giving up is if they jettison my dead rotting carcass into a local sun after I take a few of our enemies with me. Thank you."

Vaudin put his reading glasses in his breast pocket and his data pad in his pocket as he stepped down offered a solemn press of the lips to the other people and took his seat.

Geneviève had gotten primped and chosen a much brighter outfit than usual (She had also inserted a brown-tinted contact lens over her scarred iris so her eyes might match.), establishing a casually classy image that would appeal to the people of the Republic who seemed to judge more on appearance and less on the values presented by the orator. A shame that so many might judge a book only by its cover--but there was nothing one could do about it.

Lasedri had arrived in person, just as Alderaan's exiled senator and the senator of Iktotchi, and she nodded to the other brunette to acknowledge her and grant respect for such an act of confidence. The Republic needed confidence.

Stepping up to the plate, the rather unexpected candidate for Chief of Senate initiated her speech.

"Hello, Republic," she began, glancing around at the somewhat sparse audience gathered in the building. "I'm Geneviève Lasedri of Chandrila, if you were not familiar with me before. In truth, it has been quite some time since I presented myself in this manner.

"I'm not going to question the beliefs of the others running for this, as I think they have expressed themselves well enough before you. I'm sure we are all aware of the crucial decisions ahead of us, and the serious impact that this election will have on the future of your Republic." The Chandrilan pursed her lips, gauging whether the collective silence that had infected the entire building since the beginning of the entire presentation had altered its meaning somehow. There was a feeling of great fear all around. "I do, however, want you to question the faith of the others--and myself, naturally.

"What has gone largely ignored is how we have gotten to this point already. The Senate has been stagnant for a long time, under the leadership of many who are currently in charge. They would rather argue over the ideals of the Jedi Order--which, last I checked, was the responsibility of the Jedi Council--and neglect the importance of a standing army of regulars. They have done nothing but lazily react to whatever was thrown at the Republic, save for Senators [member="Alyesa Organa"]--who was left to watch her own world burn--and [member="Vaudin Miir"]--who, as he has previously said, valiantly fought in several instances of conflict with this very enemy we have grown to fear and hate." Again, she nodded to the two she had mentioned.

"I'm here because I don't have faith in the current leadership, and I'm fairly certain the majority of the people of the Republic do not, as well.

"What I do have faith in is that the Republic can succeed. But that success will not come if we continue to do the same thing over and over again. The Sith have been able to push their way through our worlds with little retaliation, and what strategy was utilized at the counterattacks on Alderaan and Empress Teta was the very same strategy that had condemned us when we were removed from those worlds in the beginning of this war." Geneviève offered a sympathetic glance at Organa and the rest of the representatives from Alderaan.

"The Sith are murderers and they don't deserve our respect. And if you need some emotional sob story, then I can tell you that I am deeply afraid of my world--which is by far in more danger than those of the senators present who still have their homes--falling under the boot of the Sith, as it is not even an hour's hyperspace jump away from Sith space.

"This entire war is personal--for you and for me. Don't you dare let anyone lie to you and say otherwise. You need someone who takes this personally to get the job done. I promise that, if I might have the honor as your Chief of Senate, I will hammer for a merciless surge into the heart of the Sith worlds, so that they will not go any further into mine and yours.

"I will campaign for a complete focus on production of new and decimating weaponry for the Republic military, and for a newfound emphasis on intelligence gathering--the lack of which has been brought to my attention by our very own generals, who have pointed out how we have been taken by surprise every time the Sith have attacked.

"I know I've never shown myself to be a political presence to the Republic before. But if I am only here for a season," she closed, "then let it be due to my incompetence at managing bureaucracy rather than being killed because no one else wanted to fight hard for me and you.

"Thank you." And with that, she lowered her face and quietly abdicated the platform.

Just to confirm that [member="Vaudin Miir"] has chosen to withdraw from the election process. If you have previously voted for this candidate, feel free to cast your vote elsewhere ahead of the deadline.
