Corporation Name: Clan Rekali
Headquarters: The Roil
Locations:
GORDIAN REACH AND ENVIRONS
OTHER LOCATIONS
Operations: Private security/acquisitions, Corusca gem mining, starship refit and construction, gas prospecting.
Rationale: The Yavin system has been the Rekali clan's center of operations for the better part of a decade. The clan father, Ember Rekali (NPC, former PC) -- noted Witch elder, bounty hunter, and long-retired Jedi Master -- has been quietly consolidating and formalizing clan assets ever since. Alec Rekali, his granddaughter, is being groomed toward leading the clan at some point in the probably-distant future. The clan’s operations have expanded with an eye to unimpeded force projection throughout the Gordian Reach and the Kathol territories.
Tier: VI
Description: The Rekali clan uses the Yavin system as its primary base of operations, and holds primary responsibility for the system's security. Port Shardrock, on Yavin IV, is the main Rekali spaceport, serving both clan patrol forces and Corusca gem divers. The clan includes a fleet of affiliated gem diving craft, as well as extensive combat capabilities (commensurate with company tier fleet rules). The long-term inclusion of Shardrock Clan, the Rekali-led group of semi-apostate Dathomiri witches, has given the larger Rekali clan a disproportionate amount of mildly to moderately skilled Force-users. Apart from combat functions, the Rekali witches are known to use weather magic on the atmosphere of Yavin Prime to increase effective Corusca gem yields by a respectable margin. Another factor has been the inclusion of numerous Vahla wanderers and apostates. The Clan’s numbers have also grown thanks to refugees from Generis and Phu.
The Rekali clan forces provide private security solutions and undertake high-risk acquisitions, often involving bounty postings that offer rewards for industrial assets and large-scale structural change. On one occasion they stole an artificial moon and sold it for several billion credits. Suffice it to say, the Rekali clan does not lack for operational capital.
The Rekali clan maintains a secure facility and safe port on Dathomir. The Sanctuary, located near Shardrock Village, offers the clan warriors and contractors a massive and well-protected port facility. The facility is capable of refitting, repairing, and even constructing starships, to a limited degree. Clan Rekali vessels, at least those built by the clan, are uniformly constructed with red havod hulls.
A comprehensive shipyard exists in the Yavin system, orbiting not far from Yavin Prime. This shipyard is capable of building capital vessels and is well-defended by any measure. It is one of the clan's major points of hyperwave signal interceptor installation, giving the Yavin system advance warning of incoming hostiles. Advance hyperspace warning systems also feed back from throughout the Gordian Reach, the area which immediately surrounds Yavin.
A Rekali clan defensive base exists on the planet Vjun, in the ruined and partially rebuilt city of Bitter End. Bast Castle has also been repaired and refitted as a starfighter waypoint and monitoring station. A Ranger transceiver gives Bast Castle the ability to monitor the region and help give advance warning to the Yavin system from several key hyperroutes.
Rekali advances in hyperspace technology, particularly in the realm of S-thread boosters, coupled with a strong Clan tradition of instinctive astrogation, have allowed the Clan to open the Roil to exploration and exploitation. Clan waystations, sometimes cut off for weeks or months at a time, form networks throughout the most dangerous regions of the Roil and the nearby, similarly lethal Denarii Nebula. The waystations provide some refining and manufacturing capabilities for the Clan, semi-private, and private mining/prospecting crews that risk their necks to be the first to exploit these regions. Initial logistical support for the Roil expansion was provided by the refitted Jovan Station, which lies directly between the Roil and Yavin. However, the Roil assets are designed to be self-sufficient once put in place, making Jovan beneficial but not crucial.
Comparable strategies are used in the equally lethal Kathol Sector and Kathol Outback, where Rekali sources, agents, caches, and comms networks were put in place by Alec Rekali over the course of an eighteen-month mission. The Clan is on excellent terms with the Kathol Republic and has a good working relationship with various other planets and governments in the region (though the Clan has crossed the Qektoth on several occasions.) Thanks to the Clan’s extensive network of transmitters and informants, as well at the Kathol territories’ paucity of route options, the Clan is well positioned to monitor essentially all traffic to Demonsgate and the Aing-Tii homeworld. Force projection capabilities are moderate; getting from Kal’Shebbol to Demonsgate, after all, takes around six months with a good hyperdrive and a solid navigator. Between the secret Kathol assets and those in the Roil (many of which are secret as well, at various levels), the Clan is assured of being impossible to root out and annihilate, should worse come to worst.
Clan Rekali is one of the galaxy’s largest and most profitable corporations. Unlike sprawling, ubiquitous brands like Arceneau and Iron Crown, however, Clan Rekali concentrates most of its operations around a single sector: the Gordian Reach. The Reach is a relatively developed and self-contained portion of the Rim, accessible through few routes yet convenient to the Daragon and Perlemian Trails. Clan Rekali protects the sector and aggressively defends its handful of entrances. Masters of instinctive astrogation and hyperspace engineering, the Rekalis colonize deadly space that few others can explore. Where they find no worlds, they build new ones. Many Clan members are Vahla or Dathomiri Witches by birth, and at present, the Rekalis learn from a broad collection of archives and holocrons.
The Clan mingles the cultures and principles of the Mandalorians, the Dathomiri, and the Vahla, producing a heterogeneous frontier hybrid with martial and religious implications. Clan Rekali has the status of a full Mandalorian Aliit, and grew from a formally recognized Witch clan also. It pursues its own foreign policy objectives and alliances, signs its own treaties, and issues its own travel visas. It operates as a bizarre hybrid of extended/adoptive family, feudal state, and corporation. Organizationally, the closest quantitative and qualitative equivalent may be a Hutt kajidic or organized crime family. On the one hand, the Rekalis make their money in ships, starlanes, and raw materials rather than spice, slavery, and gambling. On the other hand, the Rekalis claim unseemly amounts of protection money, heist ultra-high-value targets, set and collect bounties, and operate as a law unto themselves whenever possible. And every once in a while, they’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse.
