Closing the Gap [Matsu Ike]

Lorieth Faeryn

Lorieth reached out to take the saber from Matsu. Carefully, she removed the pieces of the old crystal. It was a light blue color. The power cell was obviously at the end of the hilt and it looked way outdated. She removed that too, setting it all down on the table. "Well, I've done all I probably know how to do. I agree with all of those things you mentioned. Especially the biometrics part. I don't want my own saber to be used against me," Lorieth had no idea that so much went into sabers. "Well, you get to work. Just explain to me what you're doing and show me as you go so then I'll be able to do this on my own some day!" she beamed at her mom, happy about this quality time they were spending together.

Matsu gave a nod as she extended her hand and pulled out a crystal. "For now until you find your own, you can use this one. We have ways to make your something special and there are some things you should have. A solari crystal will tell you how the force within you is. The lightside crystals will help you as well as repel and keep darksiders away." She raised her eyebrows though wondering what other crystals she would like to put in while looking over a couple of things. "Now lets get this assembled and I will show you how to use it as we head off to let them continue to work and get you the other things you will need for your saber. Just tell me what kind of saber crystals you would like."

The crystal Matsu held sparkled beautifully. It was orange and ornate and it felt pure within the Force. She reached for it and held it gently. After looking at it for a moment, she handed it back to her mother. Lorieth started thinking of some of the sabers she had seen in her life. The idea of being unique was important and she felt like she needed to show that even through the color of her blade. "I want my crystal to be white. Pure white like the purity of the Force and of life's simple pleasures," she finally said. It sounded right to her. She hadn't really ever seen white blades. Though she was sure they existed. Maybe they were hard crystals to find.

Matsu looked at her and a white blade was very rare... and expensive. The crystals used for it something akin to blood diamonds on Tattooine while she was moving with some of her ideas in her head setting the course. "We can do that, a white blade is hard to find. There are special crystals that are needed but I do know where some of them are. It just will not be easy and you'll find it is very dangerous but it would not be the jedi way to embrace fear." THe thoughts were there before she was pulling a datapad out and showing the durindfire gems they could use in the crystal chamber. "We can get one from tattooine and while there possibly some pearls for making sure it is white. The solari will come last and be one of the easier one to collect."

"Finish up with the other features. I need to go get rid of these clothes. I'll also key up the navigation. During the flight we can practice saber use if you feel up to it." Lorieth walked off and went to her room. Shedding the clothes, she put on her normal outfit and cleaned up her room. It had been left a mess after she had rushed to pack her bag for the adventure they went on earlier. Leaving the room, she went to the navigation panel and punched up Tattooine. Then she went back to Matsu. "Did you finish up all the additions?" she asked, walking back into the room. Lorieth couldn't wait to be able to use her saber.

Matsu looked at hr as she was going and navigation to Tattooine would be good enough while she was working on the saber and setting it up. She kept her attention on the saber while setting it up and replacing the power cell with a duel chamber cell they had been working on improving for increased cutting power. The lens specialized for making the blade sharper and more concentrated while she set the trap studs under the biometric grip and a jolt cell that would shock anyone into unconsciousness if they were not the ones able to hold and activate the saber. She finished with the biometric grip while adjusting the inner waterproof casing to protect it as she finished and works on a grip and guard that would protect it and her hand as she finished and looked at the girl bringing her attention back around. Her hand holting it as she deactivated the grip's mini computer until she could program it for her daughter with a small grin on her face. "Your saber is ready, we just need to program it for your hands."

Finally, the day she had looked forward to: obtaining her own lightsaber. It was finally coming to be a reality. The saber's components looked upgraded and fresh "Okay..." her voice trailed in curiosity. She'd never really dealt with such fancy tech before, so she was thankful that at least Matsu knew what she was doing. She stepped closer to her mother. "What exactly do I need to do?" she asked, looking back up to her mom.

Matsu was looking at her as she set the saber to the side for her and stood next to her holding it out. "You must first hold it and program the hilt to your hand. The biometrics will keep it from being used by others." She gave it to her and waited while letting the computer work, her eyes going over the rest while the chrono for the travel time counted down with Matsu moving to the side. "We are going to be there soon enough but we shall see." There was a smirk on her face though while looking over the different things while grabbing her saber and adjusting it. The intensity of the beam as the snap hiss came activating the silvery white lightsaber with the gleaming white gold hilt while she held her blade to the side. "It can be interesting when you first do it. Activate your lightsaber and we shall begin the first lesson. On the planet we shall get you the crystals to make your blade how you wish to have it be. I will teach you the jedi ready and very beginnings of Shii-cho."

The lightsaber felt different this time when Lorieth held it. The computer did its magic and after it had finished, Lorieth snapped the hilt into place, sealing it all. With deep breath, she held it out, the knife hand guard faced down, grasped it with both hands and lightly hit the button. The blade shot out and shimmered a pure ghostly white. The completely weightless weapon felt so powerful in Lorieth's hands. It could easily chop off body parts and slice through materials. It was a great responsibility. Slowly, she let go with her left hand and let her right hand grasp it. Not too firm, but not loose. "Let's get started then."

Matsu was standing there as she watched it, the sight of the saber and her daughter while she held the blade up and spread her feet. Tilting the toes while she was finding the position with the saber at her waist and in the center. "The first stance of the jedi is the jedi ready stance, shoulders and arms relaxed. Saber at your waist and pointed diagonal from your body. It will allow you to use the blade to defend yourself and attack within the zones of the body. Shii-cho is best for attacking and defending and will be built upon for each of the lightsaber forms. It will influence each and all styles including the lesser known and more wild ones." Matsu continued to watch her and moved the blade in both of her hands to rotate and go to each of the zones of contact.

Lorieth dropped her saber down to her waist, tilting it as Matsu had shown. Her other hand moved to hold onto it, holding it firmly. She was still getting used to the near weightlessness of it all. Then she focused on the rest of her body. Placing her feet at about shoulder's length, the girl's knees bent slightly to keep balance. After all that was down she rolled around on her feet, looking for the best balance. After Lorieth found it, she looked at what her mother was doing and sloppily, began to follow through the motions. After a couple of rounds of them she smiled, "How am I doing?"

Matsu was looking at her and spoke while she moved the contact of it while she smiled. "You have the form good but it will take practice to be able to move into the stance quickly. Make it a relax of your body so you can move. The most basic form of lightsaber combat involves being unpredictable and pressing the attack but without emotion. A jedi can fight and attack so long as they do it without aggression and anger, without being wreckless. Be random but controlled in your movements and catch them off guard while you maintain a defense you are able to work on some of the stances. Now move your blade at the points of contact in the zones in front of you. There are eight zones in front of you that can defend and be used to shield your body."

The white blade hummed as her saber moved sloppily. It was difficult to get used to the way lightsabers felt, but this was only the beginning. Focusing all her energy into keeping the blade moving steadily, Lorieth started moving her saber to each point of contact. Point one: the head. Without the head nothing could happen. There would be no brain to drive the body. Point two: the saber hand and arm as well as the side. If the saber hand was lost, so was the battle. Point three: the offhand and side. This was an area that damage could be taken to and not always end up fatal. But it was best to keep all limbs intact regardless. Point four: the back. If the spine were damaged, one could be paralyzed or killed instantly. Point 5 and point 6: the legs. The only way a Jedi can maneuver. Being without legs would be a bird trying to fly without wings.

The lightsaber passed to each point multiple times before her sloppiness began to clean up and the movements became - more or less - smooth. A smile was plastered on Lorieth's face. She was happy to be training with her mother, happy to start on the Jedi path.

Matsu watched her and the ease she was getting it was nice, being strict and correcting it but she was a natural at correcting her own mistakes even the small ones as Matsu continued to go through each movement with her until it was almost forming a kata for velocities. Faster and faster with a small grin on her face appearing a little tight lipped. "Very good, your body is relaxing, try to keep it tense just a little to adjust quickly but not so tense it is stiff. It can take some time to learn so do not rush it." Matsu was looking at her as they continued to go through hyperspace and she could feel the energies around them with more going on though.space. Her attention went to the blade while she moved. "Now when you are comfortable start to add to it, move your feet and use them to direct and add power to your movements. The force will guide and show you how to move to defend yourself."

As the blade hummed in her hands, Lorieth started to find a good pattern to controlling her movements. She was able to focus on perfecting each transition. A small amount of sweat beaded on her forehead. Not that this was particularly physically taxing, but the amount a focus it took required some pressure. Slowly, Lorieth began to make each movement swift and to the point. Each movement slowly became tense, but with an emotionless relaxedness. Her speed began to reach a very quick pace. Gathering the Force in herself, Lorieth focused on her environment, keeping track of her surroundings. Lorieth moved her feet, fighting a pretend enemy. It was slow at first but once she got the feel for it, it became swift and even. Hitting all of the points. She even began to switch them around, moving to points out of order as her speed increased.

Matsu was watching her now as she moved opposite her. Quickly letting herself move the blade in succession and following her daughter. She was keeping the pace and showing no signs of strain or sweat as she added a little to it and followed the small changes. "Now slowly increase your speed and movements as you go through the area. Add a little more to it and direct your movements. The room is your weapon and this is the basis of sokan a skill the jedi can use with all forms and it will allow you to surprise others. Not many learn this until they become a master and stand still. It is best to learn how to use it while you are beginning and growing with it." She had some ideas while moving her attention forward and moving the blade when she kicked off and lept across the room.
