Confused About Ship Scale

I have done that numerous times in the past and most of them involved either updating the sub completely or not getting the modification (this was back when the SSG went from the original to 2.0). So it was more or less forced.

*shrug*

Factory Admin position has changed hands twice since then.

You'll likely have a different experience this time around.

*shoes Ahri off to the Starship Modification Thread*

Now go play with the other kids.

The speed chart is a standalone and you are allowed to make edits to your current ships to match up with what is current. I don't understand what all the fuss is about, the factory puts out more and more ships than is necessarily needed and older ships rarely get used anyways. Ships that are being used in the older version can be moved about on the new scale. No point in over thinking it and creating a fuss. The factory is here not just for Fleeters, but for anyone. We made it easier to understand so EVERYONE can use it.

Oh good! Now even timmy can work the nuclear reactor.

Just remember to stay away from that red button.

Atta boy Timmy. Atta boy.

Wait, wait, wait.

You guys made it a standalone?

And... seriously thought these issues wouldn't come up?

It took me 30 minutes for that to actually sink in.

The argument that 'older ships rarely get used anyway' is gonna bite the Judges in the backside... oh... I don't know... Next time I get in a fleeting engagement for one.

I spent months building up the Mandalorian Navy to competitive levels. I made a fleet that works together like clockwork, and I still see Mandalorians pulling out ships that vastly predate my own.

Older ships WILL get used. And I for one don't plan on running around updating 20-30 submissions because Timmy doesn't wanna use math.

The lack of direct comparison being a problem is a reasonable point.

However I will say, speed ratings are really demonstrating the acceleration of a ship. As relative positions and velocities of ships are hand-wavy in roleplay (at best), an exact comparison may not come up that often in roleplay anyway. If it does come up, discuss it with the other side, report it if you think it's getting abused.

How about we decide this on a case-by-case basis, rather than spending x amount of years editing every last submission to fulfill the request of two, maybe three or four, people. If there is an issue, an RPJ or staff member will be called, then there will be a clarification made about the translation from 1 to 3, or whatever the issue is. The factory is the factory, once it is approved and out there the FJs have no authority over what goes on. I can't go back and edit approved submissions, nor can I tell people that something will literally not be approved for x reason. (Well, barring obvious reasons of course.) If you wish to update your submissions, look for them, copy their link, then submit a submission modification to adjust the particular part you want changed.

I also did not find the tyranny hashtag funny, if that was meant to be a joke.

It's a joke from before your time started by staff. I don't think it was meant to be offensive.

(Edit: I retract my argument as it is just redundant now)

I accept that, in my own humble opinion, the switch was not as thoroughly thought out as it deserved to be, and adopt the same under-the-rug perspective as everyone else. I don't make ships anymore anyways. :/

I abscond from this subject. It has served its purpose thusfar.

I'm not suggesting you waste anyone's time with such nonsense. I'm suggesting y'all cover your backside and reconsider that 'stand alone' aspect. The 20 point speed scale is a solid improvement over the old system and the wiggle room is pretty darned enjoyable. But not taking the time to create a conversion system for when 3.0 and 2.0 ships interact... That's just shoddy craftsmanship. We shouldn't have to be having this conversation, as it should have been the first issue tackled when a 20 point speed chart was proposed.
