Created Species: Why not use them?

[member="Thurion Heavenshield"]

I don't know if your mocking me or have seriously not studied the similarities with the two ...... :/ and yes really .... not being disrespectful or anything .

[member="Ragnar Ordo"] - It's alright, no offense taken. :)

I've just never seen the Mandalorians as vikings. Where's the religious elements? Where's the belief about afterlife? What gods do they heed to?

Where's the snowy mountains and cold climates? Where are the beards, man?! :p

Mandalorians wore armor like each Viking was demanded when going to raid, they believed in honor through battle, always protecting whats yours, speaking the language, and adhering to their leader for a cause. Those are similarities right there alone, and they believe in heaven , its called the manda were their ancestors welcome them, and what not.

That sure sounds like an idealised version of Viking history.

The reality of course was far different. The majority of Vikings coming to England, Normandy, Russia and elsewhere, did so to settle due to economic and population pressures at home. Though the public eye is taken by the pillaging Vikings, trade, settlement and integration was the far more common method of things.
Vikings wore armour because it was necessary in warfare of the time. There was no set armour though, just what you could afford. Most Vikings, especially in the early period, wore just a shield, leather or iron helmet and a jerkin. The armour was not what made a Dane or Norwegian.
Well, yes, honour in battle. They placed great store in battle, but honour wasn’t necessary the prime motivation. Attacking monks at Lindesfarne wasn’t exactly ‘honourable’, nor was invading and extorting Danegeld from the Anglo-Saxons, but it’s what was necessary for them.
Speaking the language? Well, if you’ve not noticed, English integrated Danish and the speakers in Northern England soon began mixing languages, to the extent that about 20% of our words today are of Nordic origin. Let’s not forget the Normans who essentially became French within 50 years and stopped being able to even understand Danish by the time of 1066.

So no, not really.

If anything, the Mandalorians are more Mongol than Viking.

Regardless, on the topic at hand; I welcome people making an Eldorai. The problem is that people have to understand the submission and at least pay some heed to it, and I think that’s the trap people fall into.

The Mnenchei were a species I put a great deal of thought and effort into, even so much as to try drawing them out (still haven't finished by the way, months later!). I used their queen as a PC for a long, long run and even had several people message me asking about them or if they could make one, but sadly it was a lonely path. Speaking of which, I'm abandoning my current Mnenchei PC and replacing her with a new one, a sort of reboot, to keep the muse and lore fresh.
I made them for everyone to enjoy and immerse themselves in, but I suppose to each is their own. I know I greatly enjoy it.

A species that I believe also deserves credit are the Narrans. Truthfully, the whole planet of Crystalsong in which they inhabit is well-thought out and clearly worked hard on.

I think it also has a lot to do with advertising and advocating. You really have to show the appeal of a species and I believe much of that comes in the forms of IC interactions, uses and lore-building. When people see how awesome something is and how much is constantly being added or broadened, they begin to become more interested. It shows that a well-made Non-Canon species can still be popular and fun.

I am already talking to the creator of one of the created species to get more information on them, so I can make a character from them.

;) I support my local Foundry.

Blessed are the peacemakers
I feel like people make species for themselves mostly. I personally don't support it, as I feel there is enough in the Star Wars universe in terms of biology for someone to pick.

Plus, some of the species aren't very well made or even possible in some scenarios.
