Crossing Paths with a Cat (Kitty)

Vortex-FF96.jpg
The planet was known as Vortex. A rather unimpressive rock in the middle of space, with the exception of the Vors who were the current species inhabiting it. There was no much to them, only that they had wings and seemed to lack emotion. Any other time this would be a quiet planet for someone to escape or for anyone to just visit for the scenery. But today there was something else afoot, something that caught the attention of a young scientist and aspiring Jedi.
It had taken some convincing but Kira Wi, a kaminoan, managed to talk her way into taking a small shuttle from Republic space to this planet in order to investigate something odd. A bio-weapon had been tested on some of the locals of the planet, one that she'd heard about before when being recruited by her master from kamino; which was apparently where the weapon was created. She needed to get to the bottom of this and see if there was any real connection. If there were it meant someone was at work on something greater here. Some believed it to be the Sith but even Zira had her doubts.
Upon arriving Zira landed her ship, or rather had an astromech to it for her, outside a nearby village. Upon exiting she had dawned a bio-suit with a breathing mask. This model was designed specifically for kaminoan bodies, which fit perfectly on her. She'd ordered the droid to wait while she exited the ship and made for the village, carrying a small bag with a number of tools and equipment needed for surveying the place. She just hoped she wasn't too late to save anyone, or to find out just who was behind this.

Of all the assignments she could have been given why did she have to be given this. First she had to go through hyper space to get here, something she hated with a passion. Unfortunately it was the only way to get anywhere in the galaxy. Secondly the natives were emotionless flying things, which was starting to really bug the young sith. Thirdly she was suppose to find some bio weapon which meant wearing a suit that she could swear had feelings and hated her. Kitty was used to light close to her fur clothing and no an abundance of it. Not this baggy crap with a dome around her head. It also blocked off her sense of smell, which was about as traumatic as taking the eyes away from a technology addicted sight reliant sentient. About the only thing redeeming she could find in the suit besides protecting her from potentially harmful bio stuff was that it did well at hiding her lightsaber, something she normally had trouble with.

Leaving the port she landed in, Kitty headed for the nearest village. Doing her best to tolerate the natives she asked what was going on.

As Zira arrived on the other side of the village it was clear something had been wrong. Half of the populace was unseen, making her realize some of them were more sick than she realized. Asking around the tall alien had received a bit of hesitation from some of the locals before managing to talk them into letting her see the sick. They took her to one of the larger huts in the village where, upon entering, Zira could see the effects of the bio-weapon first hand. Many of the natives had large black whelps on their skin and were constantly coughing.
Zira wasted no time and immediately began to examine one of them. Taking a seat near a bed she pulled out a number of tools and equipment to try and figure out what was going on. Her attention was too keen on her task that she didn't pay attention to her force senses trying to warn her of another force presence nearby. If anything she might as well have been ignoring it as her scientific curiosity had the better of her.

Kitty

The Attention Seeker
Kitty had a bad habit of being too wrapped up in her emotions to bother paying any attention to the force. Over looking the other force presence nearby wasn't out of the ordinary.

Kitty's conversation with the Vor's was not going well. The tip of her tail twitched back and forth in her irritation. Of course the Vor's had no idea what it meant, they didn't know how to read feline body language. The natives started getting defensive trying to lead her away from their sick. Kitty noticed this so now she knew where to look.

Kitty was pleasantly suppressed to walk into the hut and see someone other than a Vor. "Oh thank goodness someone I can actually talk to." Kitty said before notice the awful condition the Vor's were in. Kitty may dislike them but she still felt awful for the condition they were in. She didn't like seeing anyone in pain. She wished she knew some healing stuff. "Whats going on here?" Kitty asked [member="Zira Wi"]

After examining one of the Vors Kira heard her question, answering "I wish I knew..." shaking her head. She perked however and looked, realizing that [member="Kitty"] wasn't a Vor. "Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't think I'd see anyone else other than Vors here." She actually seemed surprised and yet happy as well. Force only knew the Vors wouldn't be much help. "You're Felacatian, correct?" Zira asked "You wouldn't happen to have seen anything strange around here would you? Besides the obvious?" she indicated the sick Vors.

Kitty

"Yea I didn't think I'd see anyone either. I'm happy to see a non Vor though. I'm beginning to discover me and Vors don't get along very well." Kitty said to [member="Zira Wi"] Kitty was then further surprised when the Kaminoan was able to correctly guess her race. "Yea that's right. How did you know? Felacatian's don't have as distinct feline features as I do and others always guess my race wrong."

The tall women also asked if Kitty had seen anything out of the ordinary. "Afraid not. My senses are kinda dulled in this suit, I can't smell a darn thing. I'm suppose to be finding out whats going on here but I'm not any good at this sort of thing. I don't even know where to start. At least the quiet is nice."

As [member="Kitty"] gave her answers Zira turned back and examined the Vor she was overlooking. Often she would glance back and nod when Kitty would say something to indicate she was indeed listening. She just had a tendency to multitask when she could in order to save time; something her father had always been insistent on. Finally after she finished Zira sighed before sitting up.
First she'd responded with "Well I figured out due to your physical layout. There are not that many other feline-like races and none that are as short as you. Though I mean that in a positive sense." she quickly recovered. "There's also a distinction with your nose and eyes. Other feline species don't have those." After that she'd said,in response to her not liking Vors, "I can agree." she leaned in and whispered through the suits, "In all honesty I had thought Kaminoas were without much sense of humor. But they make us see like wild banthas." She leaned away, smiling at her joke, before then saying "Well...all else seems fine. Whatever caused this isn't in the air." With that she began to remove her breathing mask and unzip the neck-part of her survival suit. "At least it's good to know I'm not the only one trying to figure things out here." After that she stood and bowed her head, saying "I'm Zira, by the way. Zira Wi."

Kitty

The Attention Seeker
Kitty was even more surprised as the person she learned to be [member="Zira Wi"] began pointing things out Kitty had never noticed about her race. "Wow I never noticed any of that. You sound smart. You wouldn't mind if I follow you around till we find out whats going on would you?" Kitty asked.

Kitty couldn't help but laugh with Zira when she made her little joke, after which she revealed whatever was going on it wasn't in the air to which the Kaminoan took of her helmet. "Really? Thank goodness this suit is driving me insane." Kitty then just took off her entire suit leaving nothing on her but her usual attire. It meant her lightsaber was no longer hidden but Kitty didn't care she wanted that darn thing off. She quickly came up with a fake story if the saber was asked about. "My name is Kitty pleased to meet you."

When [member="Kitty"] made the comment about her smarts Zira gave a shy "Thank you. I mean I suppose I'm smarter than some, but I'm not as great as half the minds on my home planet." It did make her feel a little embarrassed to say, though the compliment was still nice to hear from someone; especially since none of the other Kaminoans had really said so about her. After that she stood before noticing Kitty's saber, making her say "Oh!" She reached into her bag and produced a large, bulky training one. "I guess we've more in common than we thought." she smiled. Apparently that was enough to make her trust Kitty, gesturing for her to follow her outside before saying "I suppose now it's a matter of figuring out how they got sick. If not the air....then what?"

Kitty

The Attention Seeker
'You got to me kidding me.' Kitty thought as [member="Zira Wi"] pulled out a training saber. 'Am I magnet for untrained force sensitives.' Kitty wondered if she was training to be a jedi or a sith or maybe neither. Maybe she was a force sensitive wana be. Either way Kitty didn't care. At first Kitty wanted to find out what was wrong as soon as possible and get out of there as soon as possible. However the planet was nice and quiet a welcome break from the insanity of Coruscant. Her annoying suit was off now and she actually had some pleasant company. Now she didn't want to leave. Unfortunately Kitty didn't know what was going on so she couldn't exactly sabotage it. "Um maybe the water?" Kitty suggested; uncertainty evident in her voice.

Given [member="Kitty"] suggestion Kira thought before giving a hum. "Possibly. But if everyone here has drank then why isn't everyone effected?" She looked around and spotted a stand with food, making her take Kitty by the shoulder to lead her over to it. "Maybe these hold an answer." she said before picking on up after another and examining it. To herself she mumbled a little, saying one thing after another about how there seemed to be no sign of infection or the like. She was sort of lost in her own train of thought before finally snapping her fingers. "Wait a moment. That's might be it!" Before Kitty could ask Zira pulled her off again and said "Follow me." taking her out of the village.

Kitty

The Attention Seeker
"Oh yea I guess that wouldn't make sense. Gosh that would have been awful had it been in the water." Next thing Kitty knew she felt a hand on her shoulder and she was brought to some food. [member="Zira Wi"] picked a bunch up and Kitty could hear quite clearly Zira's mumbling on how she wasn't finding anything out of the ordinary. Kitty could also hear every single Vor whispering to each other wondering what the two outsiders were doing exactly and if they were making any progress. It was only the ones speaking basic she understood though which weren't very many.

Zira then at least gave some warning before taking her off outside the village. She seamed to be making a lot of headway to Kitty and she still had no idea how to sabotage it. "What might be it?" Kitty asked as she followed Zira.

Instead of answering then Zira instead lead [member="Kitty"] out towards the open fields around the village. She looked around before telling Kitty to try and spot an unnatural colored dirt. Eventually some would be found just under a plot of grass. Nimue hurried and emptied her bag to find a scanner which she poked into the ground. A minute later the results of her probe revealed something.
"That's it!" she declared. "They planted it." She stood, a more confident look on her face, as she explained allowed "If it was in the fruits then something would've shown. Some bruising or augmentation in the skin. And anyone would've known not to eat it. But not if the food isn't a fruit, but meat." She paced back and forth as she went deeper into her explaining "They had to have known the wildlife here eats up grass before being hunted and killed. And not everyone of the Vors are willing to eat eat. At least not large enough quantities. Meaning those who ate the most wound up sick." She then turned with an excited look to Kitty and exclaimed "Don't you see? The sickness is in the animals, not the people. It was transferred to them!"

Kitty

The Attention Seeker
[member="Zira Wi"] asked Kitty to look for unnatural color dirt. It took a lot longer than it should have as Kitty was purposely not pointing out what she found until for a while to try and delay the trip which in the mean time Kitty would talk to Zira about things such as why she had a training saber, what was her thoughts on life, and Kitty would talk a bit about herself as well. Like how she was kidnapped and put into slaver at a young age and then escaped slavery and how she hates the guts out of hyperspace and wished there was another way to travel vast distances quickly like teleporting or something. Eventually Kitty had to point out what she found though.

Kitty however was even more upset when Zira told her what the clue meant. She pulled her tail in and her facial expression showed her distress. "What am I suppose to eat then?" Kitty asked.

"Anything that didn't come from something else." she said before realizing how it sounded. "Just...no animals. Try strictly fruits for now." After that she looked back at her devices and said "Perfect. Hopefully this will help find a cure." She turned back and said "Thank you, [member="Kitty"] ." You've proven to be a great help." She then suddenly hugged her tightly before pulling back and saying "Oh! Sorry! Caught up in the moment. I didn't mean...unless you thought I was imposing or...." she tucked her head down a bit with embarrassment before saying "I should've asked first."

Kitty

The Attention Seeker
[member="Zira Wi"] suggested she just eat fruit but she didn't seem to understand the situation Kitty was in and before Kitty could clarify she was hugged. Zira quickly broke away from the hug and apologize for the abrupt action to which Kitty responded to with a hug of her own. "Don't worry I love hugs and believe it or not you were a great help for me too. Both emotionally and not. If you hadn't been here first off me and the Vor's would have killed each other, not really but we would have wanted to. And secondly I would be in the same condition as the Vors as I wouldn't have gotten anywhere and would have eaten some meat and you know what would have happened from there. Which bring me back to something I was going to say before I was interrupted by that awesome hug. I can't eat fruit. My body will only digest meat and I didn't bring any food with me because I guess I hadn't considered food could be the problem."

Zira was equally surprised by the hug back. And here she's thought [member="Kitty"] would feel awkward about it. After that she heard Kitty explain how she'd have ended up in a worse situation if not for Zira, making her sigh with relief that she'd wound up helping without realizing. After that she heard as she explained she couldn't eat any fruit, which made Zira realize how stupid it was of her to suggest only eating it. Then an idea popped into her mind before she reached into her bag again. Eventually she pulled out a fully stocked food kit and handed it to Kitty.
"Here. Have what you like. I'd eat but right now y stomach feels as though tiny minocks are buzzing inside it."

Kitty

The Attention Seeker
Kitty's eyes lit up and her tail stuck out when [member="Zira Wi"] gave her a food kit. "Thank you." Kitty said taking it. She could only really eat the meat that was in it and she didn't wait to have a some. Revealing her sharp teeth Kitty ate a couple mouth fulls and saved the rest for later. Extending one of her claws in her fingers she picked out the meat that got stuck. "So how are we going to find a cure?" Kitty asked.

"The information I've gathered will need to be sent back to Kamino for study. Hopefully they'll find a way, or they'll known someone who'll find a way. Either way it'll take time. And time that I can spend trying to find out who'd behind this." She looked around before saying to herself "Just as I thought. No way the Sith are behind this. They wouldn't send one of their own to investigate if that were the case." She then turned back and explained "Sorry, I meant to say. I sort of figured it out. Trial and error process, actually. Since you have a saber and the Republic wouldn't send two padawans out here to look without letting the other know, I figured that meant you were...well..."
[member="Kitty"]

Kitty

The Attention Seeker
Once again Kitty's happiness faded as [member="Zira Wi"] revealed she knew what Kitty was. She supposed she could bring out the lie she came up with earlier. Then again she supposed that wouldn't work since she didn't give any objections when Zira hinted at Kitty being a jedi and it would look weird putting things stright now. "Your not going to turn me in are you?" Kitty asked. If Zira was then Kitty was in trouble. She couldn't return without a sample or they would punish her or worse kill her. Even just a sample wouldn't be very satisfactory either. Before she got either and got away the Jedi would have gotten here and captured her. Which meant her only option would be to kill Zira but Kitty didn't want to have to kill her new friend. Maybe she could just knock her out. "Please don't turn me in. If I go back now they won't be happy with me, but I don't want to be captured either."
